CD of images just keeps ejecting & won't mount

I received a CD with images on it and it won't mount. I'm sure it was burned on a PC, but this is not the first CD I've received from this photographer and their previous CD's have opened fine. This is not the first CD this has happened with either.
I tried restarting the computer, running a cleaning laser disc - I don't have a clue. I'm on deadline and need to get to these images.
Any ideas?

There are several ways of burning CDs on a PC so they won't work on a Mac. Maybe the CD wasn't Finalised. Maybe it was burned with Instant CD, which uses its own format. Maybe the media is bad. Have the photographer try again with ISO 9660 format, and maybe a different blank, such as Verbatim.

    Ok..so I have an eMac (2004)
    SuperDrive PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-107D
CDs & DVDs with data AND DVDs burned for DVD players DO MOUNT.
Then a DVD from Netflix loaded..so everything seems to work except DVDs burned to MEMOREX DVD-R.
A friend converted VHS stuff for me to DVD from a Panasonic VHS to DVD converter. Some DVDs mounted. The MEMOREX media he used did not. They do not want to mount.
So I will be testing other media again from this converter..But we have seem to have found a problem with MEMOREX media. (recordable 16x 4.7GB)
Also tried resetting the PRAM and looked all over for issues with my Pioneer SuperDrive. Found nothing
eMac Mac OS X (10.3.9) also have an iBook G4, G5 dual,

Memorex Media is Fair at best. Some of the older Optical Drives do not expieriance the problems that the newer drives have.
When you are burning be sure you friend has his settings correct for Mac and PC compatiblity.
Here is a Media quide to use when purchasing.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
Next be sure if you are using the newer high speed media that you read the back of the packaging and the media will burn at the lower speeds . It will read that this media will burn at 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, and 16X. so no matter the drive you have it will burn this media.
Also, as you already know stick with DVD-R Media it is the most widely recognised and used, for computers and players alike.

I have iMac 105.8 and want to upgrade to Snow Leopard, so got the disc from apple on line store and it will not install, just keeps ejecting from my desktop

You have entirely too little free space on the boot drive, for best performance it's best to have hard drives only 50% filled max and never more than 80% filled.
See Storage Drive here and reduce some space also make a seperate bootable clone backup of all your data BEFORE upgrading
    Most commonly used backup methods
see here for how to find your disk space
    Why is my computer slow?
If you upgrade and it doesn't go right or slows the machine down you might need to erase and install, which all your programs will have to be reinstalled from original sources and files from backup.
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
If you can't do this, then hire a local PC/Mac specialist.
Do not upgrade to 10.7 or 10.8 on that older machine, it will slow down and you will lose all your PPC based programs.
Leave the Lions for a brand new machine with a SSD drive.

  • Hard Drive Ejected - Won't Mount

    Hi all,
When booting my computer today, I received an error message that a disc contained unreadable information and was asked to "eject, ignore, or cancel." My second hard drive then didn't appear once I was logged in.
Disk Utility sees the second drive, but clicking on "Mount" does nothing. (The log says "mount succeeded" but nothing happens.)
When using Verify Disk or Repair Disk, I get the following message:
    Verifying volume “disk0s3”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
Catalog file entry not found for extent
The volume needs to be repaired.
    Volume check failed.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
    1 volume checked
    0 HFS volumes verified
    1 volume failed verification
    Any ideas???
    Thanks!

Sounds like these are your choices,
1: Download Disk Warrior, it's really only good at repairing your directory, it's expensive, it won't repair bad sectors.
    and/or
2: Download Data Rescue to get your data off the drive
    then
3: Disk Utility erase w/zero option and reformat.
Your drive may be failing or it might be suffereing from a bad sector (erase w/zero re-writes the bad sector map)
I wouldn't trust it and have a backup.
I would do #2 and #3 above, if DW screws up your drive or it fails while your working on it... get your data off first.

  • Combo drrive MATSHITA CD-RW  CW-8123: keeps ejecting cds and dvds

hi my combo drive just keeps ejecting cds and dvds is it broken? can it be fixed if so? or will it need to be replaced?

I've found a fix for this. The problem is that the Combo Drive won't recognize any DVD-ROM or CD-ROM or even blank CD-Rs. There's a Apple Knowledge Base article that tells you how to reset the PMU or Power Management Unit. In my case my "12 PowerBook G4 1.5 GHz with Combo Drive wasn't recognizing the bundled iLife '05 DVD-ROM. Resetting the PMU fixed it & allowed the PowerBook to recognize the iLife '05 DVD-ROM. Here's a link to the Knowledge Base article with instructions on how to reset the PMU: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449.

  • Original 10.4 Tiger install disc keeps ejecting

    Hello,
I am trying to re-install my 2007 white MacBook to its original state so I can sell it.  It currently has Lion installed, when I insert the original Apple 10.4 Tiger CD/DVD into the super drive the disc just keeps ejecting.  All other discs work and the install disc does not eject from my MacMini.
    Why is this happening?
How can I get Tiger installed on it from the original disc?
Many thanks in advance for any help provided.

When trying to boot with a disc, it's say that the disc isn't compatible with your machine.  ( I thing strongly. )
After you start up the machine normally,  can you insert the disc?
You can manually delete things.  You might miss a few things but you should get most.

    start by deleting your id:
    Create new Account
    blue apple > system preferences
    clicks on accounts icon
click on lock icon if locked.
    enter logon password
click on + icon ( left side of screen just above the lock icon )
after creating new account, you need to logout of your current account.
blue apple > log out ... current count name ...
log on to new account. see if problem goes away.
if it has gone  away rename finder preference ( Not sure of name ) ... reboot.

  • MacBook won't boot up, just keeps spinning

My daughter's MacBook (less than a year old) wont boot up, she states that it just keeps "spinning".  Any suggestions out there?

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.a. Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in the support article linked below, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
How to back up and restore your files
    b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode by holding down the key combination command-T at the startup chime. Connect the two Macs with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable. The internal drive of the machine running in target mode will mount as an external drive on the other machine. Copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode
    c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
    Step 3
Boot in safe mode.* The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Post for further instructions.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is damaged and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
    Step 6
Boot into Recovery again. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.
    Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a backup.
    Step 8
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
