leroysex, Welcome to the discussion area!
...it plays recordable cd's but wont play normal cd's that i have bought from shops also the dvds will not play .
What do you mean by "normal cd's"? It should be able to handle any CDs formatted in a standard format or Mac format.
If the iMac has a CD-RW drive, it won't be able to use DVDs. Run System Profiler and look for the information about your optical (CD/DVD) drive. It will tell you what the drive can do.

  • My DVD player only plays in black and white

Just got a new Toshiba HDTV (model no. 39L1350U) and am trying to hook up the DVD player. Got sound, but it only shows a black and white picture. The only way I get any picture at all is by plugging the yellow of the standard AV cable into the green jack. I know this is not right, but don't know where to plug in the yellow connection since there is no yellow jack on the back of the TV. Am I going to need a different cable? My DVD player is an old Sony.
    Thanks.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My DVR670KU is about six year's old now.  Been getting only a black/white picture.  Was using and S-Video connecting cable to the TV.  When I connected using an HDMI cable, now have the color again.  Believe the S-Video cable failed/went bad.  Was previously getting color from it though.

  • Flash Player only plays one video on Fox News

When I first open Safari and go to Fox News videos, it will play the first one but after that, it goes black and shows nothing.
I tried uninstalling and installing the newest version but still nothing.  I can watch videos everywhere else but here.
    Any suggestions?

The videos that DO work are most likely HTML5 which requires no plugin.
Spotlight search "Flash Player.plugin" and trash EVERYTHING in the results.
Go to: [user]/Library/Preferences (Hold the "Option" key when you click "Go" from the Finder menu to access this folder)
    Trash the com.macromedia.Flash Player.app.plist file.
Trash the Macromedia folder from there as well (the WHOLE folder).
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe
Trash the Flash Player folder and the Flash Player Install Manager folder.
Go to: Mac HD/Library/ Internet Plugins.
    Trash the flashplayer.xpt file.
    Empty the trash.
Download the offline installer: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac /install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg  and run it.
If after all that, it still doesn't work, we'll need to look at other plugins you have that may be causing a conflict.
I have Safari, Firefox, Opera and Chrome, as well as a few "off brand" browsers and Flash Player works in all of them. Late 2012 Mini, Core15, 16Gb RAM.

  • Why are my .avi files extracted using PE3 only playing audio when using Windows Media Player?

I extracted a lot of my old movies using PE3 that came from my 8MM camera. They played fine on XP.
I now have Windows7 64 bit and when I play them in Windows Media Player, they only play the sound.
I'm guessing that this is a codec issue.
Should I re-extract them using a different product that uses a more standard codec?
    Thanks!

It depends on your workflow. So we'll need more details.
How did you digitize the video from your 8mm camcorder? Many devices capture as AVIs, but do so while using codecs that aren't universally playable.  Also, do make sure you've got the latest version of Quicktime on your new computer. It can add some important video functionality to your computer.
You say you used Premiere Elements to "extract" your movie. How did you do this? Did you use a device like the ADS Pyro AV Link or Grass Valley Canopus AVDC?
Finally, are you trying to play the raw files or did you create a project with them in Premiere Elements and then Export/Share your video? And, if the latter, which output settings did you choose?
Meantime, try downloading VLC Player to your new computer and see if it can play the files. It is a much better player than Windows Media Player (or Quicktime Player, for that matter). And let us know yoru results.
As I've said, the more details you can give us, the more likely we can help you.

  • After mixing a project i select bounce and burn the disc that is burned plays on any cd player but when i try to burn the wav or mp3 file that was created the resulting disc will only play in a computer this also happens with video projects help please

after mixing a project i select bounce and burn the disc that is burned plays on any cd player but when i try to burn the wav or mp3 file that was created the resulting disc will only play in a computer this also happens with video projects help please are there any settings i need to alter as it seems the wav or mp3 file i ceated is being converted to a data file somewhere between the folder and disc drive

Same thing for a movie file.. If you want to play back the movie via a DVD and a DVD player you must create a Movie DVD  and not just burn files to a data DVD... as Data DVDs are just storage devices for files and therefore will only work with computers...
Movie DVDs are special formats that include things like menus and special file formats.. so they can playback via a DVD Player...
You will need a 3rd party DVD Burning app like Toast which is what i actually use.... or the more popular DVD Creator app...to create and then burn a Movie DVD that will playback on a DVD Player....

Flash player only works in administrator account. In other accounts safari can't play flash videos (youtube or others) while firefox can. OSX 10.5.8 safari 5.0.5 / latest flash player. I have tried almost everything. Reinstall safari and flash player, repair permissions.... Any help?

    Repair permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the menu bar, quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, install the v10.5.8 combo update.

  • How do I prevent snags when buring my DVD with a soundtrack for playback on a DVD player?  It only plays clearly on the computer itself.

I totally get how to create a DVD with a great soundtrack on my computer.  I put the whole thing together and when I play it back in preview, it plays beautifully.  However, when I select "burn" and burn it do a disk and then go to play it on my DVD player hooked up to my TV, there are rough spots---times when the sound goes out and then comes back on, etc.
Someone wrote me and said to choose "save to disk" first and then use disk utility or Toast to burn it at a slow speed.  I tried doing this and when I selected "burn to disk" it only came up as an audio file and a separate video file, so I was lost at that point.
Any ideas of why this discrepancy might be happening?  I'd appreciate any of your thoughts!
    Thanks!
    Rick

okay, I can help you a little bit. your dvd player (standalone) plays mpeg-2, I think, so
in order for a disk to work in it, both the audio and video have to be combined into a whole package, which i think is video_ts.Using Toast, choose video, then dvd-video then drag n' drop, and it may work. As far as  i know, disk utility cannot make video dvd's, but  I may be wrong, and you may be right. I used iDVD, but there are probably other programs that may do as good a job of burning. Oh, and this is most important: Some blanks will work ok, and others won't. Verbatim, maxell ( I think) and Taiyo Yuden will work fine. the other ones are a gamble. I think what it's supposed to do is called muxing. I'm sure someone will correct me on this. You could try using "Burn" which is relatively cheap or Handbrake and see if that will do what you want to do. not that it's super important, but the amount of Ram in your machine is helpful too
    anyways, good luck

You can see it, its rather a slow 7 mins as I am drawing in real time, but you can hurry it by whooshing through if you like, you see the subject of the drawing towards the end to compare with the drawing.

  • MP3 CD only plays the first 40 listed artists on my cd player

I am trying to figure out why mp3 cd's burned via iTunes only plays the first 40 artists. When I use the CD in a computer, all the files are there. When i burn an mp3 cd using windows media player, I am able to play all the songs listed. Why is iTunes limiting my to only 40 artists? I am using the most current version of iTunes (7.6.2).

I just reread my post, and i realize I forgot to mention that the CD isnt reading in my Car cd player, but reads everywhere else. My car CD player only sees songs from the first 40 artists, but it used to work correctly before.

  • Media Player Problem playing only one song at a time

Recently acquired a BB Curve 8330 (OS 4.5.0.127) running on a Bell Enterprise server.  I bought a SanDisk 16G Media Card.  The card is formatted, the songs are there (about 20 albums)  I can view, scroll, choose shuffle, choose an album, choose a artist or any other option.  No matter what I try, it will only play one song at a time.  Once the song plays, it just stops and stays at the end of the song.  Periodically, the entire device will shut down and restart.  I saw somewhere else in the forum to pull the battery, wait 1-2 minutes, didn't work.  There was also a post to try to downgrade the software from 4.5.0.127, but really, is that necessary?
Is there a fix, patch, upgrade, or other I can try rather than going backwards?
    Please help.  Really frustrating.

I was having the same problem.  I found out the CD's that I ripped were not in MP3 format they were in windows media audio format.  I was able to load them to my phone and they would play one at a time or when a song got to the end it would restart my phone.  Replaced WMA files with MP3 files and it fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

  • Quicktime only play one file at a time

I would like to use QuickTime player to play mp3s. when I play a file and then open another it opens another instance of Quicktime and both files play at the same time.
Is there a terminal command to only have one instance of quicktime at a time?

Is there a terminal command to only have one instance of quicktime at a time?
Not a big Terminal user, but as far as I know, the answer would be "No!" Nor does the QT Player (QT X) have any preferences that would help here.
I would like to use QuickTime player to play mp3s. when I play a file and then open another it opens another instance of Quicktime and both files play at the same time.
With the QT Player (QT X) the specified media player, you have three basic options:
Create a reference playlist or pseudo-playlist,
Create a standalone "album" file, or
Create a an Automator script that will play any group of folders and/or individual files dropped to it.
For instance, if you have QT 7 install on your system and is is keyed for "Pro" use, then you can use it to create a "reference" (pseudo-playlist) or "standalone" (album" file that will play the content you add in the order you add it to the player. The "reference" file is very small since it only tells the QT Player to play the source files located else where on your system but is not, generally speaking, "transportable" since files are easily "orphaned" by inexperienced users. On the other hand, the "standalone" contains all of the original data stored internally and can be move or shared across systems and media devices having compatible media players. Both types of files are fixed with respect to both the content and its playback order.
An automator "drop" script works like the playlist or pseudo-playlist file described above but has the advantage of allowing the user to grab and combination of files and/or folders and play them sequentially in the order (I believe) in the order they are selected. Its major disadvantage is that the user must select, drag, and drop the set of files and/or folders each time he or she wishes to play the content whereas playlists, "pseudo-playlists," and "albums" play the same files in the same order each time they are opened.
Most users prefer an alternative solution—that of using an alternative player. Most use iTunes since it also "manages" the media content. Music albums are, in and of themselves, playlists. However, users can also create smart or manual custom playlists as desired. These playlists are "reference" playlists by nature but can be exported, burned, streamed, or sync'd to mobile devices if desired by the user and thus, to my mind, offers the most available options to the average user.
Another alternative would be to use a third-party media player having "playlist" capabilities. One popular example would be the VLC media player. Folders, files, albums, etc. can be dropped to the app player window and automatically begin playing in the order dropped. Further, the playlist can be saved as an M3U playlist file that can be recalled by VLC (or iTunes) later if desired. Unfortunately these M3U files are not QT X or QT 7 compatible. (NOTE: The M3U file, like the QT 7 "reference" file mentioned above, merely contains pointers to data stored elsewhere on your system and any change to the relative navigation path can orphan the resource data.)

  • DVD player artifact issue on certain player only

Can anyone tell me please why this is happening!!
I'm nearly finished with a documentary project. It's 64 minutes long. I used the DVD 90 minute Best settings with Dolby audio in Compressor and DVDSP build and burn. It works fine in the simulator in DVDSP and in my home and office DVD player. But my client gave me six pages of notes reporting what she called "skipping". I re-tested the DVD in my player and still wasn't seeing an issue. So I watched it on her player and noticed some artifacting and dropped frames.
I thought it might be due to a dirty player. So I had her do a cleaning and there will still some issues though not as many.
    Why would this happen?
I'm concerned because if I cannot even see the problem on my players, how will I know if I've solved it? I've searched the forums and found similar questions, but nothing exactly like this.
Grateful for any help you can provide:)

There are MANY reasons why certain players skip and others do not. Some players by nature are better designed to play DVD-R. Some are simply more forgiving. While one player happily plays over problem areas, others choke.
Most of the times, the problem results from poor quality DVD-R media. There are actually 4 different grades A, B, C & F! You should ONLY be using A grade media.
Those cheap 100 disc $19.99 spindles at the local Costco, Wal-mart etc., may sound like a deal, however, most are useful only as drink coasters and even when a disc gets recorded to what may seem to be correct, in actuality, is not.
Surf to http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm for more details on which media you should be using.
Are you by any chance using a PAPER LABEL on the disc? If so, STOP. Buy printable surface media ONLY. Invest in a Bravo printer and you won't go wrong.
Many players do not handle media well with a paper label on it.
Finally, make sure you're burning a 1X (yes I said ONE TIMES) speed! Errors will creep up in quick burns that will also result in problems.
If you are doing everything right, it could be her player!
    Regards,
    Darren

  • Burned CDs only play on computer

I imported a cd,k and burned it to a blank cd, but that one won't play on any cd player, only on the computer! Is this because I foolishly upgraded to itunes 9?

Whoops! Senior moments 5,463 - 5,479. I wasn't even seeing the options to check (i.e., audio, data etc., so apparently it was choosing "data" for me. All very simple. Thanks
