Cd rom boot problems with MEGA 180

I recently recieved my MEGA 180 and have been unable to successfully install an OS because when I boot from CD, the computer freezes at various stages of installation. The point at which it freezes varies between the point at which the CD is initialized to anywhere in the windows xp setup process up untill the drive format. Occassionally the lockup coincides with an error copying a file, but this is not consistent. I have tried two different cd-rom drives as well as three different xp installation cds. Further I have run with 5 different sticks of ram (kingston and corsair). None of these changes have had any obvious effect.
Having read the warning labes regarding non MSI optical devices, I am tempted to think that may be the problem as I am not running on an MSI drive. However, the warning souned like it was about mechanical parts and thus I assume the ability of a drive to fit in the MEGA 180 case while opening and closing correctly.
I would appreciate any input you might have on this matter as I am finding this experience rather frustrating.

I had the exact same problem when upgrading from a 2100+ Palamino processor to a 2800+ Thoroghbred one. The screen had already dissappeared due to powering up with no monitor plugged in, so I tried a reinstall of Windows XP. It kept falling over randomly during the install process. I then swapper the CPU back and had no problems at all. I have since lapped the heatsink and reduced the FSB to 157MHz in the BIOS, and have not had a problem with the 2800+ CPU. I have not tried installing windows again, but feel this will be OK too.
My test is to run FujiFilm Snapshot Slideshow, which sends the CPU temp rocketting. I have found that when it goes above 70 C it starts getting unstable. I throttled the FSB back to 157MHz and it does not get to 70 C any more. In normal operation it never gets above 60 C, so I don't know why the slideshow takes so much CPU power

  • Driver Installation problems with mega 180

    Can anyone help me out?
I am re-installing a Mega180 that I built 6 months ago, unfortunately, the original driver disk is damaged and I have downloaded the drivers from the MSI website.
for some reason both the PCI modem and wireless network card are now not recognised at all by windows XP. the wireless network drivers that I downloaded do not work either.
how can I reinstall these drivers and where can I get an original install disk from as my retailer says that they cannot get me one?
    thx
    Jon

How to contact MSI. they should be able to send you a new CD if you ask nicely

did you download the wireless driver from here?
are you actually using the modem if you use the wireless network feature? if not you may as well just disable it in BIOS and save some system resources

  • Poll: Do you have cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatal1t

    Hi guys:
I have post a thread regarding the cold boot problem with SB X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream 600W SLI power supply combination. Apparently, no one has answer to that . In addition, I have recently RMA'd my psu and received a brand-new unit. The same problem still exists. If the problem is really with the power supply, doesn't matter what kind of the setup I have, I should still have the cold-boot problem. However, it doesn't seem like that. Doesn't matter what kind of cards I put on the motherboard, as long as the SB X-FI Fatalty card is there, there is cold boot problem (even with the setup of cpu, mother, ram, and the sound card only, WITHOUT video card and harddri've). And for other different setup without the SB X-FI Fatalty card, there is no cold boot. The cpu and memory are running at stock speed.
My post regarding the cold boot issue:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=79753
There is one user on the forum saying he has the same problem. Therefore, I think it might be the imcompatibility between the X-FI Fatalty and OCZ GameXStream PSU.
I would like to know how many people that has the same problem that I am having. So I can possibly narrow down the problem and contact OCZ tech support or creative tech support with more information. It would also be benefitical to those who have the same problem as I do.
Please post your system setup as well in the thread.
Greatly appreciate your opinions. Message Edited by White_Hair on 2-02-200604:58 AM

I would venture to say that it isn't your powersupply, but more likely the X-Fi. I had troubles with my system, until I pulled out my X-Fi and replaced it with a non Creative Labs sound card. One of my troubles, which I incorrectly blamed on my powersupply was the ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard I had and the X-Fi XtremeMusic card, was after gaming for 4 hours, was the?sudden reboot of my system. Powersupply before, was an Antec TrueControl 2 550watt PSU. As it stands right now, I no longer have the parts mentioned and have a decent 700watt powersupply in my system, along with an ABIT AT8 32X motherboard. As you have probably seen there are a lot of problems with the X-Fi soundcards, and I in my right mind can't blame the motherboard, powersupply, motherboard chipset, ram, or any other component in ones system, if one is having trouble other than the X-Fi itself. I'll be honest, there is something quite frankly wrong with the X-Fi, and exactly what that is, I'll probably never know like most people.

  • K8N NEO4 Platinum cold boot problem with 165 opteron?

I have this board and have a cold boot problem with my opteron. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Its starting to get very anooying.
    K8N NEO4 Platinum
    165 opty dual core
    2X1GB Ballistix PC4000
    160GB sata2
    7800GTX
    X-Fi platinum
    600 watt seasonic PSU

Well I am running them at the rated speed of 250 and the rated timings of 3-4-4-10 on the rated 2.8 volts. Ballistix have been known to die quickly when you throw to many volts at them for some reason. I dont get the cold boot problem with the OCZ. Once I finally get it to boot with the Ballistix it works just fine but the next morning I play hell to get it to boot again. I dont even get the main screen to let me get into bios. It just stays black. I have done all kinds of stress testing and ran memtest with no problems. I am really at a loss here.

  • Problems with Mega 865 Pro

    Hi,
I have a problem with the product Mega PC 865 For. Not risco to install the radio, when the asset tells me no mesa partition found '. what must I do?. Thanks.

    Hi !!
To be on the safe side i changed my ram to one piece of corsair ram 512Mb and tested it. Everything works fine.
Managed to install Win 2003 server last night once... It ran for about 30 mins then the machine hang. It didn't restart.
When i try to install both xp or 2003 the machine reboots at the same place every single time. Installing devices. When it
switches from 35 to 34 mins it reboots.
Are there any newer bios than the one i have ver 1.0 !!?? I haven't found it anywhere. I have tested all peripherals inside
the machine in other comps and they work fine.
The thing i have noticed is that it runs very hot !! 58 degrees Celsius just idling in bios !! BTW when the machine is idling
either on a boot floppy in dos or in bios it runs for hours. My conclusion is either the machine overheats in install mode or
some device in the machine (mobo) is faulty. But that seems far fetched too due to one succesful install of win 2003 server.
I use the heatsink that came with the 865 Pro what heatsink do you guys use !!??

  • Boot problem with new HD

I have just bought a new HD (WD 120GB SE, ATA100, 8MB CACHE) for my PC. My old HD was a Quantum Fireball Plus AS 20.5GB. I had in mind to remove the old one and copy the 2 partitions from the old one to the new (3 Partitions made by Partition Magic). I used the Norton Ghost 9 to copy the partitions with the "copy one drive to another' option, also select the one partition to be "active" so it can boot the OS and copy the "master boot records" from the old HD. When i restart the PC with the new HD as master after the "veryfing DMI pool data" i should see the windows logo with the loading bar, but the only thing i get is under the "veryfing DMI pool data" the message "error loading operating system"! ! ! The same thing happens if i copy the partition (with the OS) to a dvd again with Norton Ghost and try to recover it. And the strangest thing is that i have the same problem if i try to install (clean) windows to the HD, it copies some files to the HD and when it restarts so it can continue installing windows shows the same message. I have download a diagnostic program from WD and there is no problem with the HD. I have taken the HD to a friend of mine and it works fine. I forgot to mention that both bios and windows detect the HD. When i use the HD as slave, i can copy/cut files/folders with no problem in windows. I have the latest ver. of bios and nForce drivers. PLEASE HELP ME! ! !!
    P.S. Sorry for my english. . .

If you use Ghost to copy from one disk to another and the geometry is different, it can happen that the result is not readable.
Simple way: plug disk as slave. Boot on the 20GB drive. Partition the new drive in windows. Copy the files.in windows. Activate the new partition as primary and bootable. Swap drives.

  • My Mac Pro 1,1 won't boot, problems with disk.

I am having problems booting my 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. I was using my computer just fine and then I shut the computer down. When I tried to restart it the computer booted the the Apple logo and the status whell began turning, and then a progress bar appears under that and begins to load. It loads about 1/10 of the way, dissappears and then the computer shuts off.
I booted the computer using Command + R and attempted to reinstall OSX Lion, but it would not allow me to select a drive to install too. They are all grayed out. From here I went into Disk Utility and attempted to Verify Disk Permissions. A laundry list of errors immediatly came up. Next step was the verify the disk, at which point the message read that the disk seamed to be corrupted and needed to be repaired. I tried to repair the disk but was then told that the disk couldn't be repaired, to recover any data and reformat the drive.
The problem with this is that I have not backed anything up (yes I know I am a TARD) but this is my situation and I need some help. At this point I would just like to recover the info that's on this disk, and without a computer to do this I'm not sure how to do this. At this moment I am attempting to make a disk image of the corrupted drive in hopes that this will allow me to restore it later.
Please somebody help. I bought this computer with a lot of pre-installed programs, (i.e Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Studio, etc.) not to mention all of my other files.

I have an external drive that I used to keep files backup up on, again I'm a TARD, and no longer do. I've been messing around with the Recovery option when I boot and during this venture saw my main HD unmount and just would not do anything. After trying a few things I reset the system again and when I got back to recovery noticed that the drive had mounted again. I am now using disk utility to copy the entire contents of this main HD to the external drive. Est. time remaining is 12 hours. I did have the external filled up with some stuff but nothing I wasn't willing to trade for all of my applications (that came pre-installled when I bought the machine) and other files. I've read that even doing this isn't a fail proof way to solve the problem as their are still corrupted files, but Disk Utility said that my drive couldn't be repaired and to backup what I could and format the drive. I am hoping that backing up everything to this external drive will give me at least some oportunity to recover my apps, files etc. It also said that if disk utility couldn't fix the drive to boot from the CD and try it that way. Unfortunatly I downloaded Lion and don't have one. I just bought this HD about 2 years ago. Is a Seagate and I haven't had any problems from it. When my computer stopped working I had just been using it and just reset the computer. I am definitly going to get another drive but what are your thoughts on my ability to recover everything? I've heard there are some programs that can handle it.

  • Cold boot problem with X-FI Fata1ty card... Need serious help!

    Hey guys:
I just finished upgrading my computer. Realized that I have a cold boot problem. In order to identify the source of problem. I began the following test.
. Remove everything except, cpu, heatsink, ram, video card. Tried to boot with those devices. => No cold boot problem.
    2. Install the rest of the ram sticks (I have 4 x 52 in total). => No cold boot problem.
    3. Install the other video card (my setup is 7900gtx in SLI) => No cold boot problem.
    4. Install the Creative X-FI Fataty card. => COLD BOOT PROBLEM
Once the computer is shut down via the front power switch on the case, the computer will not boot again. To boot the computer, I need to switch off the main power switch on the back of the psu and switch it back on; then turn on the computer via the front power switch on the case. I tried the problem with and without the sound card. Whenever the sound card is installed. There is the problem. If there is no that sound card in my rig, then there won't be any cold-boot problem.
    My rig specs:
    DFI Lanparty nF4 SLI-DR Venus
AMD Opteron 65 CCBE 609 - Stock speed
    4 x 52 MB G.Skill Samsung TCCD LE 2.85V DDR 400
CPU Cooling - Tuniq tower 20
    2 x EVGA 7900 GTX Stock - SLI
    3 x WD Raptor 74G RAID-0 SATA (-3) 0000 rpm (System)
    x Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 60Gb 7200RPM NCQ SATA - 4 (Backup)
    Pioneer Black DVR 0 DVD+/-RW - IDE /0
    Lian-li PC-V 200B Plus-2 with little case mod
    OCZ GameXstream 600W
Creative Fatalty Sound Card w/ Front Panel

I need serious help. This problem is so annoying.
Tnanks and will greatly appreciate it.Message Edited by White_Hair on 0-27-200605:4 PM

The onboard sound is disabled. Unfortunately I sold the Seasonic PSU to my friend. The OCZ GameXStream is suppose to be the higher grade psu than Seasonic PSU. Also, the cold boot problem only exists if the sound card is plugged to the motherboard. I tried change different pci slot. It doesn't seem to help the problem. • Boot Problem with K8n Neo 2 Platinum

I cant get my Computer to load the bios
Sometimes when I restart my computer it will lock up in the Bios Sign on and the only way to get it to boot through is to keep resetting the computer and turning the power off and on. It does this on a random basis, Ive also had problems with it locking up if the dynamic oc is turned on.
Has anybody heard of this happening or know how to fix it?

Corsair memory is known to be troublesome with AMD64.
Nevertheless, if everything is set correctly, it'll work.  I've been running the LLPRO 3200 1GB kit at 220MHz without any noticable problems.  Run a couple of rounds with Memtest86+ to verify memory functionality.
Can you please give your specifications on the power supply unit (PSU), especially the amperage on the +12 volt rail.

  • Booting problems with FileMate ExpressCard/34 SSD

    Hey everyone.
My FileMate UltraSSD 48GB ExpressCard/34 is not being recognized from my MacBook Pro early 2008 2.4GHz. I trying to use it as my startup disk with Snow Leopard on it.
I have had all kinds of problem with the FileMate ExpressCard SSD. It indeed is quite fast but I had to reinstall and restore my system so many time already.
What I have noticed is that when the FileMate is inserted, holding the option key does not show the FileMate and the little green light isnt on either. Sometimes I have to startup, boot off the internal drive, remove the FileMate ExpressCard, shut down, insert ExpressCard, and start up again for it to boot with the FileMate ExpressCard. But that doesnt happen all the time either.
I got the FileMate 2 weeks ago and wonder if the problem lies within my Mac or the ExpressCard. I never had any problen with the OS not booting or whatsoever. Ever since I got the FileMate I had to find ways to boot from it.
Another thing worth mentioning is that I have never used the ExpressCard slot before. So it has been pretty much 2 years that the slot was just sitting there empty. Could it be that it is too dusty inside? I didnt want to spend money on canned air so I just tried to clean it myself by well..blowing some air into it. That should be enough to get it clean in my opinion.
What do you guys think? Return it and ask for a replacement?

I also have one of these. The first one I got kept corrupting itself and the manufacturer replaced it without any problem. I installed Snow Leopard on the second one and it booted just fine, but there seems to be some intermittent incompatibility between Snow Leopard and the FileMate and the thing doesn't mount about half the time when I boot the MacBook Pro. If I pop it out and then back in, it does mount. My intention was to use the thing for a scratch disk for Photoshop and Illustrator anyhow, so I reformatted it and use it only for that and for temporary storage. In my experience, it just isn't stable enough to use as a boot drive. YMMV.

Everything was working well, windows xp working well, until today after my computer doesn't want to boot Win XP(windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt. c:Windows\system32\config\system). Thanks Wonkaoby for your fast response.
I forgot to wrote power supply.
It is RexPower PX-450 (Made in China). But I hadn't any problem with power supply before. Thing which is concerning me is no possibility of boot-ing system from Windows XP bootable CD i.e. set up my computer to boot from CD/DVD.

  • Strange Boot problem with iMac OSX 10.7.5 (Boot loop, not working safe boot etc.)

    Hey guys,
I've got a strange problem with my iMac Late 2009. This morning it didn't want to boot (grey screen with turning wheel). Yesterday when I shut it down everything was fine. Last backup was finished three minutes before. So I was a bit shirty but noch scared of any data loss.
    I tried  the following things:
    1. boot recovery and check hdd (it's a new one, only second day back from apple store for replacing seagate hdd), everythings fine
    2. try to boot in safe mode, did not work!
    3. try to boot in verbose mode, did work until it stopped. Screenshot of the last lines of log is within this post
    4. I used my TM backup and afterwards I could boot! Strange, because as I sad the backup finished a few minutes beforce I left my mac and shut it down
Now I'm a bit scared of shutting it down again But what would be the next step to find the error? My first thought were some third party kernel extensions, but that would not affect a safe mode boot, am I right? I have a Macbook Air here which is setup nearly identical to my mac and it's working. Could it be a hardware fault? Maybe you've got an idea.
    Thanks!
    Max

at the moment it seems to be a corrupted time machine backup from my old hard drive (new one has a runtime of 27 hours). So I'll will try a clean install of my system at least, when I got the time. sh%&$ !

  • Strange booting problems with Neo4 Platinum.

I have been searching this board to find anything that might help with a problem encountered when booting my recently built system.
The build had gone very well considering the new technology (easiest ever build and system start up) and the system was up and working 100%.
Suddenly I had problems logging out and shutting down Windows and also problems restarting. The system would hang at the initial "Platinum" splash screen and the only way to progress was to hit reset.
At this point, the booting process would move on to the point where the windows boot process begins and then hang again. After hitting reset again, the system would boot to the point where it informed me that Windows had failed to start giving me the boot options form which I would pick "Start Windows Normally".
From this point the system booted up and the Windows GUI came up and the system ran OK.
I have spent all weekend breaking down the sytem and rebuilding it again and reinstalling XP Pro - no difference - still booting problems.
Thanks to the hero who discovered that the problem may be related to a USB keyboard.
I had changed my old wiireless PS2 keyboard for a new shiny USB wireless keyboard and that was the cause of my problem.
I've replaced my old keyboard and the system is back to 100%.
Thanks MSI - you could have put something up in the FAQ which might have saved me 48 hours of frustration.
Thanks guys - I'm almost back to being a sane and rational person!

    Congratulations firewire....
