CD-ROM drive wont work anymore

Help!
My CD-ROM drive doesnt work anymore...if I try to put a CD or DVD in, it doesnt automatically take it in. It goes in almost all the way and then there is a sound and it spits it out. What do I do? Where do I look for it in my system profiler to know if it is being detected? Nothing has happened bw the time it work and now...Not sure what to do. My laptop is maybe 6 months old.

Aaron..thanks for ur reply! I was hoping there was something else that could be done bc now Im afraid I may have caused the problem, although Im not sure I did bc what I think could be related to this happened after the first week I got my laptop....
There were some posts about resetting the powerbook etc but wasnt sure if that actually worked for anyone...
I will inquire at apple I guess too...both my ipod and my powerbook are busted after 6 m onths...makes no sense.

I need these Devices because they are my only network access via the Asix USB to Ethernet Adapter.
After the installation I have compiled and used the drives for the Asis adapter.
The both other devices are my USB Keyboard and Mouse.
2. My other problem is, that after the update my resulution of my console is very weak, this is just bad but not a real problem, I can live with that.

Take a look at this page for trouleshooting your cd/dvd drive not working. About those other programs - do they freeze every time you use them? Do any other programs freeze, or just the audio/video stuff?

Itunes wont work anymore...error 7

My itunes wont work anymore on my latop, i uninstalled it and reinstalled it but when i try to get in to my itunes and error 7 message will pop up saying that it was installed incorrectly and ive installed it several times to find the same thing happening. I dont know what to do anymore so if someone could help me out i would really appreciate it a lot!!!

I got an upgrade iTunes request from Apple. And upgraded. I should never have done that. Now it says that "iTunes is not properly installed". Other strange messages are also coming up, like missing .dll files etc.
I have deleted all Apple programs. Used Revo Uninstall that also deletes registry files and left over files. I have used ByeiTunes and Registry mechanic. I have used everything that is suggested on this site:

After doing all this, I got the same error message. So what wrong with Apple? When you have bought the product, you are left out in the dark. I have given up. Synchronizing the calendar with Outlook I can do manually, pictures that I have downloaded to my phone, I can access directly, and pictures taken by the phone I have to send to myself through e-mail. Music I never download using iTunes.
I have had enough. After this and after Apple has changed the plug that leaves me with 8 useless chargers and stands, there will be Samsung next time. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bits.

After upgrading Windows Vista(64bit) to Windows 7 home(64bit) my FN button wont work anymore.
I installed the Toshiba Value Added Package and Flash Cards supports utility and it still doesnt work.

Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
Remove the battery
Wait 15 minutes
Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
It is also completely possible that the impact has caused physical damage.

Go to My Computer and double click on CD/DVD drive. This should start the exe file on the disk.
Otherwise click right and choose Open.

How to restore if CD-ROM is not working anymore?

I have a Satellite A45-S250 (Jan 2004) with XP SP3, still working, but the built-in Pioneer DVR-K120 CD-ROM has stopped reading any CD's. No FDD. Available boot options HDD, FDD, CD-ROM, LAN. No USB option.
I have made Drive Image PQ-backups every now and then on USB-HDD's, but it needs a bootable CD to restore drive C: (as all System Restore disks need).
The computer acted a bit funny lately and I tried to use the Windows System Restore but no one of 5 restore points succeeded.
What options do I have to get the system back to an earlier date when the CD-ROM does not work?
I have uninstalled the CD-ROM drivers and tried to install new drivers from the Toshiba website without success.
Same drivers still there and the CD-Rom tries a lot without success. Only Eject works.
I have tried to investigate the LAN boot option but have not found instructions that I understand to use.
Do you (or anybody) have instructions (and experience) how to boot from LAN ?
It would help to load the USB drivers so that I can use my separate USB CD-ROM writer to get the bootable CD to work and get the stored image back to C:, or use the factory restore disks.
I have 3 other computers with XP networked with this Toshiba on a wireless Netgear router.
At boot with LAN option it shows my MAC and needs some input. What should the input be?
Or should I buy a new internal CD-ROM? Which type would fit in this laptop?
Since this is a general question that many must have had (or are going to get), I am sure that an easy fix would be available. I am looking for some help.

Welcome to recovery disk **bleep**, I can use the company.
If the CD won't work, you pretty much have a problem. In your case I suspect this is one of two things:
1. Device driver problems, or
2. Your CD has died
Before doing anything else, try Control panel, System, Hardware, Device Manger. On the View menu, click the "show hidden devices". Uninstall all the drivers for any CD drives shown, and while you are at it uninstall the IDE / ATA controllers. Shut down the computer, then restart. Windows will load and "rediscover" all the devices you just deleted. Sometimes that works. If it still doesn't work go back into the Device Manager and see if there is a yellow exclamation point on the CD-ROM that could point to a resource conflict. The driver details for the yellow objects will give you some hints on what to look for.
If not, you may have a failing CD drive. However, before you despair totally, it might just be a connector problem. I don't know your model, but most CD's slide out by pressing a moveable tab on the bottom of the case, or by removing a single screw. Remove the CD drive (it will just slide out). Say a small prayer. Reinsert the CD, giving it a firm shove with your thumbs when you do. If it was just a loose connector, you might get lucky and reseat it successfully. Also, check the lens on the CD for dirt / dust / last weeks lunch. The lens can be cleaned with a special CD cleaner, or a cotton swab with some alcohol.
If the CD is well and truly dead, you have two options. FIrst, you can obviously replace the CD. Your friendly computer store will have a replacement and they are not terribly expensive. You might need to reuse the Toshiba mounting rails and bezel to get it back in your unit the same way, but those are normally easy to change with a screwdriver.
The other option is to put the recovery disk in a USB attached CD-ROM drive and see if you can boot that way. Obviously you will need to physically remove the other drive, and maybe play with the BIOS boot priority (from Toshiba HW Setup in Control Panel) so that it boots from the CD first and not the HDD. Some Toshiba models let you temporarily tweak this by pressing "C" or "F12" at power on instead of using the setup utility (try that first).

Can\'t get both rom drives to work at the same time

HI I just finished building my new system with the MSI 6585 and everything works well EXCEPT my two roms drives. I can get one to work or the other to work but not both at the same time. I have the hard drive on the primary IDE and both rom drives on the secondary IDE. I tried setting one up as master and one as slave. I tried them the opposite way around. I tried setting them both on cable select. If I try to boot with both of them hooked up the computer refuses to boot past post . Can anyone give me any suggestions please?
I am running XP pro with 512 megs of ddr ram .
The cd burner is a liteon 40X12Xthe 48. To be honest I cannot remember what brand the DVD player/cd player is ..

Cd drive wont work

hello guys my cd drive on my i mac wont work, it tries to rad the disk for 2 seconds and then spits it back out, it makes no difference if its a cd or a dvd, anyone have any ideas??

ive been experiencing the same thing. I searched the archives here to see if i could find anything similar and found only one answer that seemed to help. That ws to go to your applications. Click on disk utilities. Click on your hard drive in the left hand column and then click on verify repair. After its done shut down the computer. Then turn it back on and see if that helps with the problem. I seem to be able to have some success with this but i noticed that everytime i turn my computer off and turn it back on i have to go through the same steps again . Let me know if you do this and how it works for you . If its a permenant solution or like mine where its only temporary and you keep having to repeat the steps.

Help! My DVD drive wont work when i install iTunes....

I Installed iTunes when i bought my iPod, but my Disc drive wont read any cd's when iTunes is installed. I uninstalled iTunes 4 times now and every time i uninstall iTunes amizingly my disc drive works again.
When iTunes is re-installed it wont read any discs, music cd's movies programs or picture cd's.
Im contemplating returning my iPod for a Zune but i really dont want to have to do that, i love my iPod...
please if anyone can help id really appritiate it...

DVD Rom drive wont read media

I'm using a stock dv5-2135, and I'm experiencing several issues. The first seems to be a serious CPU slowdown. I'm even getting a lag when typing. After deciding to do a full restore, I have found the DVD Rom drive won't recognize any media, and won't burn. If I can't get the drive to work, how the frak am I supposed to do a full restore? Short of throwing this thing into the river, any suggestions on where to proceed?

Cd rom drive not working

my cd rom drive is not working. it will not open with the tray botton or with the eject option. can open with paperclip and put disk in but it dosent turn on or act like there is a disk present. it shows that everything is working properly but always says there is no disk present

From Device Manager, right click the CD drive then properties, is there any error messages?
You may also update the driver.

New DVD CD combo drive wont work.

Ok, I just installed a 8221A combo drive (manuf. 10-2006) into my ibook and tried it in my mini also, and in both computers it powers and spins, but wont read or eject (just spins, no respose to anything). I had a 8123C (01-2005) and it worked fine in both computers. do I have to update drivers or will this drive not work at all in my setups?
I am replacing the cdrom in the ibook, so I plan on putting the new drive in the mini and the old one in the ibook, as it is harder to pull apart than the mini.
BTW, firmware in the ibook is 4.2of4 and the mini shouldn't need any update as it's new in 07/05.
