CD-ROM is broken

I just purchased Photoshop Elements 11 from Costco but my CD-ROM on my laptop is broken??  I thought I could just download the software from the website and use my product registration code?  How do I install the software if I can't use the DVD?

You can download the trial and activate it with the serials.

  • Broken CD-rom in Toshiba satellite harman/kardom

    I have Toshiba satellite laptop
    but CD rom is broken,
So, I have External DVD rom(USB)
and I want boot from External DVD rom and install Windows 7
But When Press F12 , Dont have choice for external CD rom
    what can I do?

When asking a question on the Forum, please include the computer model with the question. You'll get a better answer that way. Depending on the computer, some will allow you to boot from an external USB DVD drive and some of the older computers won't. In your case, your computer does not give you the option to boot from the external USB drive. Best option is to get the CD-ROM drive replaced and try again with the Windows upgrade.

  • CD Rom Broken - Want to install ZEN Visio

My CD Rom is broken so naturally I cannot use the installation discs to install my freshly purchased Creative ZEN Vision M MP3 player. Anyone have a link to the software i need to download or any way of helping? I would greatly appreciate it...

Maybe Creative uses cheapo cd's becuase mine broke too.
I have 9 or 0 Creative software CDs, none of them have 'broke'. They seem to be of similar quality to CDs from Adobe, MicroSoft or Logictech.
I called Customer service who advised me that they do not supply replacement CD's because all the software is available on line - so why does the company supply an installation disk in the first place?
It's a courtesy- not everyone is online, not everyone has high speed Interent access.
I've recently had to perform a system reset on my Dell laptop (running Windows XP)so I had to reload the Zen software. Customer service gave me a list of software apps to download but they wouldn't load because the software couldn't detect the Zen. I was then told to download a Microsoft executable. So now my laptop recogises that I am connecting new hardware and identifies that it's a Zen but it still prompts me to use the installation disk but cannot find the drivers anywhere. I've tried to load the Creative software but it will not load because it cannot detect the Zen.
You can force Windows to look for the drivers manually. Use Browse to direct Windows to look for the drivers at the location where you've saved the downloaded drivers
    Are there drivers available onlne?
Yes: top of page on the Creative banner, click Support--> Downloads--> MP3 Players--> Zen, select your model, language and Operating System, chose the drivers or software that you need. Be sure to read the instructions on the pop-up menus for instructions on how to install the updates.
Can anyone suggest anywhere where I can purchase a replacement disk? I have already tried eBay
Maybe someone here will have a copy for you, but really it's not that hard to download from the site.

Just burning a ISO onto a DVD wont make the DVD bootable.

If i try to install it from usb stick it only shows efi install. And i want to install it normal mbr record but i cannot do it in imac.
And when i try above tests in my mac mini server it does them all normally. It can install everything in normal mode windos 7 or 8 what ever it doesn't care. . • Use of Recovery disks

    Hi,
I am trying to reload a Satellite 1415-S173. I have the startup disks but no way to install them. The DVD-ROM is broken and the computer won't read an external DVD player on a USB port. Can the startup disks be broken down into floppies? Is there documentation on starting through a LAN? Any other way of restoring?
    TIA,
    Marty

The user created Windows Vista Business recovery discs are for re-installing Windows Vista, if you want to re-install Windows Vista, after having used the Windows XP Pro recovery discs that ship with a 3000 N200 notebook.
The Windows XP Pro discs restore the notebook to a condition as though it had been factory shipped solely with Windows XP. Using them destroys the Vista recovery partition, replacing it with an XP recovery partition.
Using the Windows Vista recovery discs, wipes out Windows XP and returns the notebook to being a Windows Vista one including re-creating he Windows Vista recovery partition.

  • Archive and Install from external DVDROM?

My Dvd-rom is broken so I bought an external optical drive. Lately, my software (such as Word and Powerpoint), have not been opening correctly. Apple Support suggested that I do an Archive and Install.
Will I be able to do this from an external optical drive?
    Thanks,
    Danielle

Yes, as long as the external drive is bootable. Insert the installer DVD into the external drive then restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the icon for the external DVD then click on the downward pointing arrow button. The computer should boot from the DVD. Follow these instructions for the Archive and Install:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Sattellite 2430-201: Question about the reperation costs

    Hello,
in 2003 I bought myself an Sattellite S2430-201 Notebook.
I bougt it from Toshiba, because I thougt it is an very popular brand and the products are in very good
    quality.
But after half an year I got the first problems: Some of the Keys broke completely off, but I did not understand why? I used my Notebook in a normal way. I press the keys softly, like everyone would do it on a Notebook.
But that was not a really problem, after some month, my Screen had failures. After this, my DVD-ROM was broken, too. So I send the Laptop to Toshiba, and they repaired it.
But after the end of my 2 years of guarantee, the Display is broken, again Keys gone away. The Hard Disk is broken and I even can't turn it on.
I think a repair is as expensive as a new one. But I can't afford me every 3 years a new Laptop.
And I need a Laptop for my Nautical Sciences.
So what do you think how much would be the repair of the Hard Drivr, this is most important for me, the failures on the screen and the keys are not so important but I want to run my Laptop.
Maybe there is a way to buy a new HD?!? I don't know how difficult it is, to put it inside?!?
    Greetings,
    A.S. (Germany)

    Hi Alexander,
I'm sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your notebook. Sadly the keytops on the keyboard are generally fairly fragile and can break off quite easily. Sometimes you can get replacement tops from an ASP although the current trend is to replacxe the entire keyboard :-(
As for the hard drive it is generally fairly easy to replace, Look for a cover or flap usually on the bottom of the notebook you will usually find the hard drive there, although on some models it is under the optical drive and on others it is under the keyboard. (I'm not exactly sure where it is on you 2430).
The hard drive is normally fitted into a caddy which is used to secure it to the notebook. You will need to transfer the caddy to the new hard drive so that you can re-insert it into the notebook.
Once the new drive is installed you then need to boot from your recovery CDs in order to install your operating system.
    Good luck,

  • Broken CD-ROM drive on Satellite M30x

    Hi,
This is unusal I guess; I have bent the cd-rom tray on my Satellite m30x. When the tray was opened it got bent upwards slightly. Its not really broken but slight bent so that it no longers will close and if closed will unlikely open again.
Is it possible to replace this part of the laptop?
    Thanks,
    john

    1) Yes, you can replace the CD/DVD drive
    2) Its not very tricky to remove the CD/DVD drive from the notebook. Its secured with one screw at the bottom of the unit. Remove the screw securing the optical drive module and use your hand to push the module and then you can slide the module from the bay
    3) You will have to buy an compatible CD/DVD drive. The compatible drive could be ordered from your local Toshiba ASP

  • Satellite A40 - broken CD-ROM drive, bootable options

    Hi,
my CD ROM drive is broken and I need to use the Windows XP CD to update some corrupted files. Having bought an external CD ROM drive I have now found it impossible to boot from this, because it appears to not be supported by the BIOS options. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can use the CD to repair the corrupted files??
    Many thanks
    HombreJoven

Reading this other reply below, I don't think that the brand of the external drive matters. From what I can glean I need to update the BIOS to accept USB HDD (CDROM) or buy a new CDROM internal drive and get it fitted...
