CD's DVD's Struggling to Eject

Hello All,
I have attempted searching this, but have not come up with a similar problem/solution.
My DVD/CD drive on my Macbook (from July 2007), struggles to eject DVD's/CD's from the drive. I press eject in any way (i.e. button on keyboard, from desktop, or in iTunes) and it attempts to get it out, but seems to get stuck and then it reloads itself. On subsequent attempts the DVD/CD comes out.
Anyone have any input on what can be going on with my drive?
Also, it seems when my Macbook is slight off a desk or table (the drive) and I eject it works slightly better. This is leading me to believe that its something with the shape of the drive (?).
Thank you for any input.
S

Have you tried the troubleshooting steps listed in Apple Computers: Troubleshooting the slot load optical disc drive? (check out the section "The drive doesn't eject discs or discs eject slowly")
Have you thought about taking it to a Genius Bar or an Apple Authorized Service Provider could take a look at it?

  • Optical Drive reads some DVD's, but also ejects some - help

I just had a DVD made from an old video tape, put it in my MBP superdrive, it played just fine. I left it in the drive and the next morning when I woke up the computer, the DVD spun and then ejected. Since then it won't load at all. I've tried other DVD's, some work, some don't. The DVD plays just fine in my old iBook. In Disk Utility, I did the repair permissions, that didn't work. I have restarted, shut down and even reset the SMC, the DVD still won't play. My drive info: Model:HL-DT-ST DVDRW GSA-S10N, Revision: AP09. This sort of thing has happened before with this drive. Any suggestions?

I've had similar problems with my original MBP early 2006's DVD drive, but a good squirt of compressed air in the slot seems to consistently fix the problem. A lot of dust here in AZ where I live
    Hope that's all it is...-Karen-

  • Macbook CD drive struggles to eject?

My macbook's cd drive is struggling to eject any type of disk.
The drive will attempt to eject and then just load the disk again.
Sometimes it ejects but I have to hold down constantly on the eject button and even then it is not smooth and only comes out enough for me to grab the disk real quick to pull it out.
I've tried all the tips on this support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801 to no avail.
My computer is also under the protection plan so I had the drive replaced for free however there are no changes in the problems.
So even with a brand new drive the problem is not fixed! What could be the other causes of this lack of power/force to my drive. Any info would be great.

    Hi ams5406,
Replacing a hard drive in a computer will not assist in resolving, or identifying an optical drive issue. They're two different hardware components that operate independently from one another. Now with that being said, if the optical drive is unable to eject a disc (through the normal process) it's possible that there's a problem with the optical drive. Does it look like, perhaps, that it's getting stuck on something or has excessive force being applied to the top of it?
Reason I ask, it's possible that the bezel area (on the bottom case) is not allowing for a clean exit path for the disc. My recommendation (as there's little else to do) is to get the machine back to a service center / retail store and get a second set of eyes on what's happening when the disc is ejected.

  • Combo Drive Plays DVDs, reads data CDs, ejects commerical CDs...

My Combo Drive currently will not:
    -burn CDs
    -play music (commercial) CDs
    -load software (commercial) CDs
    It will:
    -play DVDs
-recognize and read previously burned (non-commerical) data CDs
Commercial CDs are not recognized--the drive struggles with them for a minute or so and then ejects them.
I've read of similar problems elsewhere, but my situation seems a bit different because the computer will recognize and read previously burned data CDs, so I don't think it's a problem with the lasers. What is different about commercial music and software CDs? Also, what would that have to do with problems burning data? Could this be a software issue?
    Thanks

I read elsewhere on the site about resetting the PRAM and that solved the problem. Drive functions normally now.

  • DVD Drive won't eject!!!

I was transferring some files from a dvd I had burned and now it won't eject the disc. When I press the eject button, it ejects, but before any of the disc comes out, it automatically reloads the disc. I've tried restarting the computer, even holding down the eject button when the computer boots up. But in the end, it's the same result. I'M nearly desperate to take it in to be worked on. what should I do????????

This is quite interesting, bear with me.
Apple reseller removed the dust guard because he suspected that was fouling the disc. However he returned the laptop to me minus the guard so there was a great big hole in the side of the case. I complained to Apple and they agreed it should not have been removed without my say so. Apple do not replace this part as its part of the lower case, unless you (me) pays for this repair, (which I find strange as the part was easily removed),
Long story short the lower case is being changed free of charge to enable the dust guard to be fitted.

  • DVD Drive Will Not Eject

The DVD Drive will not open with the keyboard eject button. The only way to open it is restart it and then put in appleoption+OF then type "eject cd" then type "Mac-boot" but there must be a simpler way to do this with out rebooting it every time you want to open the drive bay. The key board is brand new. I am using a IOgear Miniview III KVM switch. It works when you plug the keyboard in directly into the mac it works fine. Is there a KVM switch driver that is compatible with the Powermac G5 and a PC.

Open the Terminal application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and enter "drutil eject" without the quote marks. If you need to use this command often, it can be made into a double-clickable application. To do this, open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder, paste the following in:
    do shell script "drutil eject"
and save it as an application.

  • All DVD's inserted, self eject and don't play, why?

When I try to insert a blank or recorded DVD in my iMac it self ejects and won't play, is there a problem with settings or does anyone know how to fix it?

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu.  In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to  your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility.  Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

  • HT1379 I have a DVD that won't eject in my iMac intel computer..any suggestions

I put a DVD in mi imac to burn, but now it won't eject, tried a variety of things, but no luck..any ideas?

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • MBP 15" Penryn - 2.5 Most commercial DVDs not read and ejected

    Hi,
The one week old thing seems to refuse most DVDs. Sometimes, a previously rejected DVD will be read but not always. Please excuse me but I did not attempt to test all the functionality of the drive. I tried to repair permissions to no avail. Details of the culprit below. Any idea?

well, the ejecting happens when the region code of the dvd is not correct. Try inserting your own DVDs or blanks and see if it still ejects.

  • Is the Snow Leopard Install DVD supposed to auto-eject during installation?

I just recently purchased Snow Leopard and everything seemed to be going well. The installer popped up after I put it into my External DVD Drive and the installation was going smoothly but soon my MBP would restart and the installation would continue. The problem is that at around 35% completion, or in my case 32 minutes left, the disc would come out of the drive and any attempts to put it back in would result in the DVD drive promptly spitting the disc back out.
I don't think it's the MBP that is at fault since I would have received an error message or something of the like. My only guess is that either the Installation DVD is faulty or the External DVD Drive is causing the issue. I'm leaning towards the DVD Drive especially since it suddenly stopped reading the disc entirely while I'm typing this.
I'm using an AmazonBasics USB 2.0 8x DVD Writer External Optical Drive which should be fully compatible with Macs.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Yes I checked it on several occasions for dirt, scratches, and the like and everything seems in order.
I'm able to input the setup information after the MBP reboots, the disc ejects after that point while installing.
The reason I'm using an external DVD reader is because the one my MBP doesn't work anymore for whatever reason and the warranty is expired.
Also disregard the comment I made about the external DVD reader not reading anything at all anymore.

  • My CD/DVD drive will not eject disc

I have just recently purchased a new Macbook and I had the system for less then a few hours and there was already a problem with the system. The only thing that I have done to it is run the system updates and install the new Leopard OS. Upon completing the installation the disc would not eject from the drive. I have tried all the ways possible to eject it, but every time it makes three clicking noises as if it is trying to eject then the disc just reloads. I have even gone so far as to bring it in for service where they just shipped it to Apple to fix it. They claimed that the bottom of the case was bent and that Apple replaced it therefore fixing the problem. To my dismay when I brought the system back home the problem was still there. Apple wants me to ship it back to them, but I was hoping that there is some unseen solution to my problem, because I'm getting really feed up with this because I have owned this product for almost 3 weeks now and still have not been able to use it. So any help out there would be greatly appreciated.
