CD's not importing in iTunes 11.0.1

Just got some CD's for Christmas, popped them into iTunes, and nothing.
1. They show up in my iTunes folder no problem.
2. They do NOT show up in the iTunes library, and they only show up in the 'Recently Added' playlist once I've restarted iTunes.
3. I cannot drag the files into the iTunes library.
4. I do not have iTunes Match.
5. I have updated to iTunes 11.0.1.
6. This is extremely frustrating and pretty much makes iTunes a useless program.
Anyone have a fix?

I HAVE A FIX!   you need to import a song downloaded from the internet. i reccomend downloading off guvera, a legal free music site. hope this helps!

  • ITunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes

I have a number of WAV files and MP3 files that already have album information. I would like to erase that information and have it replaced using the "Get CD Track Names" function, but keep receiving an error message of "iTunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes." Is there some way to strip the previous information and replace it with information that iTunes receives with the "Get CD Track Names" function?

Programs like itunes use characteristics of the CD such as track duration and sequence to identify CDs. Potentially this could be modified in a very small manner (maybe even a millisecond) in converting to a different format so maybe itunes doesn't even want to try getting the information for other formats.
You can certainly replace whatever information you wish by "get info" on a single or multiple selection of files and entering the data by hand.

  • An mp3 file on my computer will not import to itunes by either the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method.  Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.  My OS is Windows 7.

I purchased an mp3 from a private website on my laptop.  The itunes library i sync ipod to is on my desktop, so i copied the mp3 onto a flash drive and then into my desktop in the Downloads folder and Desktop folder as well as the itunes music folder, 3 places.  I opened itunes on the desktop and read the instructions for importing music that's already in my computer.  Neither the drag-and-drop or the Add File to Library method works.  I've tried both ways over and over.  Cannot figure out what the problem is.  I do note that the name of the mp3 file doesn't show the .mp3 extension, it appears as simply it's title, Eating Healthy, without any extension at all.  Could the filename be the problem, or do you have any other idea what I'm doing wrong?  My OS is Windows 7, using IE9.  Thanks.
ADDENDUM AFTER READING ANOTHER DISCUSSION HERE:  I have now tried right clicking the song in Windows Explorer and choosing Open With, clicking itunes.  The mp3 plays in itunes but does not add to the library.

I don't have a Recently Added playlist.  However, I discovered that the file I had named Eating Healthy was given the name You Can Enjoy Eating Healthy when it copied to iTunes.  I'm guessing iTunes pulled the full name of the piece from the internet.  Upshot--the mp3 did transfer to iTunes on all 3 tries, but I was looking in my alphabetized list under E, not Y, so I didn't see it there.  Thanks for your help.

  • Own artwork not importing in iTunes

When i try to import my own artwork into itunes the artwork does not appear. This is only a problem for tracks that were imported using v7.1.x and onwards of itunes. I have tried changing the file format for the tracks that I import but that doesn't appear to work either.
right now I am using version 7.6 of iTunes. How do I import my own artwork in the latest version?
    thanks in advance.

This question seems so familiar . . . ah, this is why.
Read through that post, jclive, and see if you can't find your solution. If you have any questions, please ask, and I will do my best to clear up any confusion.

  • Play music but not import to iTunes

Can I play a track (a sound track for my movie) so I can listen to it first, without it being import to my iTunes library?

    Mac OS X: Double-Clicking a File Opens the Wrong Application - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2291
-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
    1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
    2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
    3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
    4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more.  Close the get info window.
    5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
    6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
    7) Close the get info window.

  • MP3 plays on iPod and WMP but will not import to iTunes library or play with iTunes

After having this mp3 on my iPod for many years and playing it through PC whilst iPod is connected to laptop, I suddenly cannot play it anymore
Selecting it and clicking play from iPod library results in nothing happening, playing it as part of a playlist leads to iTunes skipping straight over it.  I have exported the MP3 from iPod to PC and it plays just fine in Windows Media Player.  Tryng to import it into iTunes from PC harddrive results in no error message and no import!
Track name and file name do not contain any irregular characters or punctuation.  File is clearly not corrupted as works in WMP and track still plays on iPod when not connected to PC.
I have tried the solution proposed here; https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1645916?start=0&tstart=0 but it doesn't work.  Indeed, it doesn't seem to 'save' my selection when I do it.
Incredibly frustrating - please tell me someone has a solution?

File is clearly not corrupted as works in WMP
Don't assume that, because in fact iTunes is very finicky about slight MP3 corruption, and often fails where other players succeed.
Usually, a quick shot from a 3rd party tag cleanup program, as suggested by tt2, will make iTunes happy about the file again.

  • .wma protected files not importing to iTunes

i just bought a few songs from Puretracks, only to find out that when I try to import them to iTunes it won't let me because the files are "protected." Does anybody know how unprotect them or just make it so I can listen to them on my iPod?
    thanks

I forgot to mention: when I try to import the files
iTunes prompts me to convert to AAC. After I click
'convert' it says it can't because it's a protected
    file.
iTunes is trying to do what you want since iTunes doesn't PLAY .wma ... apparently it doesn't know the music is protected until it tries to do the conversion.

  • ALAC files not importing into iTunes

I'm using the latest 12.0.1.26 iTunes on a Dell Studio XPS (with an intel i7 processor and 2 TB SSD drive), which I use to run three Apple Airports dotted around the house and am having a problem playing ALAC files which I've converted from FLAC files bought from HighResAudio.com.
They play ok with VLC but when I try to add the folder or file into iTunes nothing seems to happen, or if I select 'play with' and pick iTunes, then iTunes starts up ok but the file doesn't appear or play at all.
I've just started re-recording my cd collection in ALAC format which all play fine when recorded directly into iTunes.
The problem is with these high resolution files (Mike Oldfield's new Man On The Rocks album) which I bought to try the supposedly 'better than cd/studio' quality sound which were only available as FLAC files. I then converted these with 'free studio audio converter' and as I said, the converted files play fine on VLC.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

    Thanks ad2345.
I tried a different converter and also changed the playback preferences -which was down at 44.1kHz- up to 96kHz as I know the hi res files are supposed to be up at this level.
Not sure if it was one or the other of your suggestions, or both, but it has worked, so many thanks for your quick and effective help!

  • .m4a will not import to itunes

Okay, so I've been using Itunes for 7-8 years.  I have a fairly large library somewhere around 500 gigabytes of MP#s and assorted compressed and even more lossless files.
I went to a concert the other night and purchased to albums by the most excellent group, Lake Street Dive.  I got home and put them in my Mac mini and ripped both CDs to .m4a.  They didn't show up in my library but the files were on my computer.  So then I went to "Add to Library" and manually added the music to the library.  The processing bar came on for all of the music.  Now when I search in my search bar I see the band and the albums but when I click on them nothing.  If I scroll through the artist, album, song bars nothing is there.
I can play the music in VLC.  I've even tried right clicking the music in the folder and click Open with Itunes.  Still nothing.
Anybody got any ideas?  I'm thinking I might just erase everything and start again with a different format, but this is really weird to me.  .m4a is apple's proprietary compressed file correct?

Just a follow up.  I erased the .m4a and imported it as .mp3.  Still won't show up in itunes.  No clue what's going on.

  • Video Files not importing into iTunes Library.

I have been converting my movie file into mp4 format so i can use them on my iPod video. I converted all of the files and then added their folder to the iTunes Library, but only some fo the videos show up. I have tried to add these files individually, changing their names, even moving them to antoher folder and adding them. What can I do to get these files into the library and on to my iPod?

I wish i knew. It seems to be very random in which videos it doesn't add. Is it too much to ask to watch SNL clips on my iPod?

  • Movies stored on peripheral drive will not open in iTunes 10.4

I have movies on a 2TB external - both iTunes downloads and non-iTunes films. When double-clicked, they now open in Quicktime but are not imported into iTunes? Anyone else have this problem? Changing iTunes to 32 bit is of no help. Running Lion.

Try this even though it says WPA2 and different
    symptoms...

  • Getting protected wma files to import into itunes

i have a couple of wma files that are protected and will not import into itunes because of the protected content. is there any way around this?

If you are able to burn those protected files to an audio CD, then that audio CD will act like any CD that you would purchase in your local store.

Real Media files are proprietary and are not supported by iTunes in any way shape or form

  • No Song Info for mp3 files that haven't been imported by iTunes??

Since iTunes won't automatically recognize an mp3 CD, I just drag and drop into my iTunes library. However, when I try to use the get track info for the mp3s I dragged in, I get a message saying; "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes. To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes." Is there any way to get iTunes to automatically import an mp3 CD as it would automatically import an audio CD? I can't think of any other way to get around this problem.
