Cd's will import into itunes, but not songs I have in RealPlayer.

I'm sorry for starting a new thread if this has been covered, but I couldn't find anything on it. I've tried all day to import songs from RealPlayer (purchased) into my itunes library with no success. A cd will load directly into itunes and so did songs from a cd that was loaded into realplayer. Just cant transfer the ones I bought at the realplayer music store. THX

No, you should have Restrictions OFF.
Computer's iTunes > Preferences > Parental Preferences > everything should be unchecked.
Are the songs also on computer's iTunes?

  • Album artwork imports into iTunes, but artist tags do not

    Hello,
After importing my music from an external hard drive backup, I have a problem with ~5% of my music. The songs are listed in iTunes as "Unknown Artist" and "Unknown Album". However, if I find the file within my iTunes folder, all of the artist information tags are listed if I use "Get Info" --> "More Info" in the Finder. Back in iTunes, the album artwork is there, but the tags are missing. These are for .m4a, Apple MPEG-4 audio files. How can I get iTunes to recognize the tags that are obviousy still present in the file?
There are too many songs like this to relabel the, realistically.
I have tried deleting the songs from my library and re-importing them into iTunes, but this does not fix the problem. I cannot find any logic as to which songs this affects.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

This same thing happened to me, so I plugged my iphone into the computer and I unchecked all the songs so it deleted from my phone and then i rechecked sync music back to the phone and all the album artwork were there.

You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work.

  • Will import from camera but not HD???

I have a samsung TL34HD digital camera, and it takes movies in h.264. If i import movies straight from the camera it will import it fine, but if i copy to the hd THEN import, it will show up blank in the library. Thoughts?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Your h264 video files may not be in a format which imovie uses. Videos imported this way need to be in a format the camera supports. If however imovie recognises a camera or a camera archive it will carry out the appropriate conversion for you. You may need to copy the file/folder system from the camera rather than just the files.

  • My music is on a nas loaded by Windows Media Player in WAV. When I import into Itunes only the songs appear no album name etc.

My music is on a nas. Loaded using windows media player in WAV.
When I import into Itunes only the record apears, no Album name etc
How can can I see all the details

Information is often stored as tags embedded in the file.  WAV does not support tagging. I don't know how WMP works but iTunes keeps its own database about media.  For many audio formats, track information will be stored both in iTunes' database and in the file itself as tags.  With formats such as mp3 most tags (not all) will 'travel' with the file when copied.  This does not happen with WAV where the information is only stored in the player application's database.

  • When I export a playlist and then open in excel, do whatever sorting I want, I then save the file and reimport into itunes but not all the songs are there. It appears to be from "comma's" in the song name. Any solutions?

I see songs such as "Monday, Monday" or "Paint It, Black" or even the artist name such as "Fireballs, with Jimmy Gilmer" which have comma's in them, being a problem when I try to do the following:
    1. Export a playlist which contains songs which are all there and play fine, but some have comma's in the title such as listed above.
    2. I then open that file in Excel and bring it in as a Tab-delimited file.  Everything lays out fine, and all the songs are thing (including those with comma's).
    3. I then sort the varoius fields I want (which I can't do in i-tunes because i-tunes won't sort it properly), and resave the file as a newly named file, which is also a .txt file.
    4. I then import that playlist into my itunes. It is exactly the same songs that I just had exported but i-tunes says some of the songs can't be found.
I have traced this problem to comma's in the file name of the song such as listed above.  There must be a solution to this either as the file is opened in excel or in how it's saved or some other solution short of having to rename song/artists without using comma's.
    Thanks.

The additional problem is the file name of the song itself.  Even if I were able to delete the commas or replace with a space for example, changing the file name would result in itunes not being able to find the file.  I would have to go through each file (out of about 15,000+ songs) to find any that have titles such as described in this thread and change not only the song and artist in the fields, but changing the mp3 file itself.
I fear that I am really pretty much going to have to start with a list of songs that have no comma and then do a file compare to find those songs with commas and then just physically moving them into a new playlist I'm trying to create, but this is a royal pain as I want to be able to create a variety of playlists based on these chart dates/peak positions.
I'm trying to sort the songs in this manner:  I use different fields in itunes so that I can put the "peak position" of each song based on Billboard charts, as well as the date the peak position was acheived. I use the "comment box" for that.  I use the "grouping" field for my peak position.
So I end up with something like "10/14/1980" in the comment box as the peak position for a song which is in the grouping field, and so forth.  If I try to sort the comments column in itunes for example, it won't sort properly. If I sort the Grouping field, it will bring up all the "1's", but that's followed by "10", 11, ...19, then "2", etc.  This is why I want to export the playlist and sort it as I want, and then reimport the playlist into itunes.
What I'm ultimately trying to achieve is a year-by-year peak position playlist so that I end up with every #1 song (in this case) from, say, January 1st 1980 and then every #1 song in sequential order for the rest of the year falls in line.  I have chart position dates from 1955 through 1999.  I have entered in all the data from Billboard books I own so I can really create some amazing playlists, but these commas are problematic. Had I known this ahead of time I would have made "Monday, Monday" as "Monday Monday" and not included commas, but it's too late for that.
    Any suggestions?

  • Songs imported into iTunes but can't play..can't find original file!

I just upgraded my desktop and had previously backed up my music library onto an external hard drive. well, on my new desktop, I installed the newest version of iTunes, then turned on my external hard drive, found my music and dragged it into library. I started playing some songs last night and all was well.
This morning, I went to listen to some songs from that same library and I am now getting the error message:
"[name of song] could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?"
Can someone tell me why this would happen, since it worked last night, and more importantly, how to find the "original files" on over 800 songs? I am hoping that when I copied my music from my old desktop, I also copied these original files that the error message seems to be referring to!
Any advice would be much appreciated, as I also did the same thing with my laptop and am unable to play music from there as well, as I am getting the same error message!

Is the external drive still plugged in?
If not, it is likely that you did not have "Copy to iTunes Music folder when adding to lirbary" check in iTunes Preferences>>Advanced tab.
If this is the case iTunes just copies pointers to the tracks, so if the drive isn't plugged, they are not available.
A simple way out of this is to pug in the drive, make sure things work, then consolidate your library. (an option in Files>>Library>>Organise...)
Consolidating copies all tracks in the library but not in the iTunes Music folder into the the iTunes Music folder.

  • NEF format imports into iPhoto but not Photoshop??

    Hello!
I'm currently using a Nikon D70S, shooting in RAW format. The .NEF files import just fine into iPhoto, but for some reason, if I try to edit them in Photoshop CS, it gives me this error message:
"Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
...Okay! I'm not sure why this is happening. I'm on the latest update of the OS and iPhoto. The only workaround I've found so far is that I can open each file up in Preview and then save it as a tiff. But for hundreds of photos... It's pretty cumbersome.
Any ideas on what might be going wrong? My .NEF files have opened in Photoshop CS a couple times, but I'm not sure why that was, and I wasn't paying too much attention to this issue until now when I need to edit a huge amount of photos at once. Help!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1.33GHz/1GB

If you are trying to open the RAW files, you will need to drag them from the iPhoto view pane into PSCS. Opening in external editor will send the OSX created JPEG to PS and that may not be what you want. Opening the RAW will also only work if you never edit the JPEG either within iPhoto or with an external editor. After that, the JPEG will always be used. When opening the RAW, you will need to save the file outside of iPhoto, convert it to JPEG, TIFF, or PSD format, and then re-import that version into iPhoto to keep it part of the library. Also, make sure your version Adobe Camera RAW (ACR) supports the D70S. Most updates are free and the D70S isn't that old and it's a different RAW format than the D70.
    Hope this helped!

  • Signing into iTunes but not with an apple id?

I just got an iPhone Thursday but previously used iTunes while I briefly had a iPod shuffle before losing it.  I did not have an apple ID to log in with,  I am pretty sure of the ID I used but I do not recall it specifically saying "Apple ID"  or ":AOL ID": when I signed in.  I had to create an apple ID yesterday so I could painstakingly move (seriously, it was a confusing mess for me) all my Napster music into iTunes to download it onto my phone.
I probably have spent about 20 bucks on music through iTunes under the ID I can't seem to sign in with, and I'd like to retrieve those songs and not lose my money.  Wouldn't be an issue if my pc hard drive hadn't failed before my iPhone arrived in the mail, as the iTunes account could just be played offline on it and I could download them that way.
I hope this makes some sort of sense.  What I am saying is I swear that until I received my phone in the mail on Thursday and had to use iTunes to set it up/activate it/whatever, I did not have an "apple ID."  After downloading iTunes I was surprised to see it asking me to choose to sign in with an apple ID specifically, or an AOL ID.
So the question is, is there another way to sign in to iTunes that I am somehow missing?  I hate to lose the music I have paid for.  I emailed Apple and haven't heard back yet, I thought perhaps the message boards would be faster.
    Thanks.

I just got an iPhone Thursday but previously used iTunes while I briefly had a iPod shuffle before losing it.
If you synced the shuffle using iTunes, then you used an Apple ID.
Make sure your computer is authorized. Launch iTunes. From the menu bar click Store / Authorize This Computer.

  • Audio file will play on iTunes but not on my Nano

I have an important audio file (in WAVE Audio File format) that plays fine on my iTunes, but won't play on my Nano. It's odd -- the file downloaded to the Nano and appears in a playlist, but when I go to play it, the Nano advances immediately to the next song. Do I need to convert the file into some other format in order for it to be playable by the Nano? (FYI, the audio file is 17.4 MB, if that matters).
    Help!

  • Songs will play in iTunes but not play on iPod!

This is very weird. I have 44 songs that are not working right.
A few months ago I moved my music files to one central location on my computer (aside from iTunes). I wanted to get rid of duplicates and songs I just didn't want and more importantly I wanted to make sure the names were all correct.
Oddly enough the songs in questions I did not have to change.
I synced my new iPod to my iTunes. I played a few songs and when it got to 1 of the 44 it just skipped over it. I thought this was weird so I went through artists and found the song that way, I selected it again and it wouldn't play.
I tired playing the song in iTunes - the song played.
I found it on my computer - the song played in Windows Media Player.
Before I did all of this, on my old iPod - the song played.
In fact all 44 of the songs used to play and everything was fine. (I use my old iPod for my car and my new one for jogging, but I don't want to sync my new one until I solve the problem I just don't want to risk losing the songs)
So I looked in the iTunes files - there is a file known as "Not Added" within the "Automatically Added" File. The songs in question were in that file. Which is weird because I never had this problem before...I didn't change anything about these songs.
I took one of the songs out of the "Not Added" file and I put it in the Automatically Added file and it seemed to add it. I tried syncing againbut the song would still not play.
I tried moving the song directly to the iTunes "Music" File. It made its own file with the artist and all - it hadn't been there before. So I tried syncing again but it still wouldn't play.
Yes - I have plenty of room on my iPod
Yes - I have tried restoring my iPod
No - There is not a little explanation point next to the song - The song is located and it plays in iTunes just fine.
I am at a loss. Someone please help me!
    Thanks!
    ~Jess

Select the track that is giving you a problem, then go to Advanced menu and select "Create AAC". Then try using that new AAC track on the ipod and see if it works.
I had some tracks that I had gotten onto my system from a CD. It ended up that my CD drive as on its last legs and had captured the tracks with some errors.iTunes was able to play through these errors, but my iPod was not. Having iTunes re-transcode them fixed the problem that kept them from playing on the iPod. Another solution would be to re-rip the tracks from your original CD. If you bought them on iTunes, re-download them.
The bottom line is that the tracks likely have some errors in them that iTunes can play through, but the iPod cannot.
    Hope that helps,

  • Purchased video from itunes online store will play in itunes but not ipod

It seems like this issue comes up for a lot of people. When I try to play the tv show I purchased from the itunes store on my 30gb ipod I get a grey screen, then it goes back to the menu. I've tried all the usual fixes- resetting, restoring, getting all the latest updates, etc. My video settings have "TV out" turned off as well, but that didn't help. Isn't there something else I can try? Does anyone know what the problem might be?
I also can't choose to convert the file for ipod. This solution has been offered, but seems pointless, since I got it from the itunes store. I would love to have a solution to this problem, before I vomit and crash into the floor.

I got my problem solved via the apple helpline, although it took a total of about five hours on the phone. First, I had to move up the echelons of representatives until I was actually talking to someone in America. It takes a long time for them to take you through all the trouble shooting steps and you have to explain several times that you've already tried everything.
The solution they found for me was lengthy and confusing, and I wouldn't try describing it in detail to someone else. It involved doing stuff on my computer: I had to put my video files into my "shared folder," create a new user on windows, log in under that user, plug in my ipod, and import the videos, which then worked. I don't know why or how it fixed the problem, but it's definately fixed. Before I did that stuff, they also had me restore my ipod. I would recommend calling the apple helpline, telling them you've tried all the usual fixes, and politely asking them to "elevate" your call, which means you are talking to the cream of the cream as far as representatives go. They should be able to help.
The representative told me that this problem is rare but more prolific on windows machines. So if you have windows and you're havings these problems, chances are your problem is similar to mine.

  • Track will play on iTunes but not iPod

I have a single track that has stopped playing on my iPod. It has worked in the past. It plays on iTunes (for PC). I've tried deleting the track from iTunes, syncing my iPod (ie deleting it from my iPod) and restoring the track from a backup, but it still doesn't work. According to the file info, its size is 12.7 MB. Is it possible that its become corrupted? Other tracks play fine in my iPod. Any suggestions?

I have gone to the Purchase History. The track does not appear there. All other tracks from the album are there. I purchased the entire album, not individual tracks. Unfortunately it is not possible to purchase this track again without purchasing the entire album. If I go to Store->Check for purchases iTunes tells me that all tracks have been downloaded. It looks like there's a problem with this track at the iTunes end.
Come to think of it - I only purchased my iPod very recently and it looks like this track has never played on it.
I sent a support email to the iTunes store and was told that I should do regular backups and that there was nothing that could be done about this.
I'm currently on the phone to Apple Tech support and have been on hold for the last 20 minutes.
I've tried all of the suggestions on sites such as http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n93431.
In case it helps anyone, the URL of the track is http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=203598396 &s=143460&i=203598418
This experience has left me rather unimpressed with the official tech support. Maybe this forum can come up with an answer.
