Cd setup messes up

I run a windows 2000 my hard drive fried and now im stuck with this. I run the cd setup and everything goes well until I hit step 10 I put the new password in and hit next it configures the router and tries to get a connection but it can't get a hold of a connection.I unplug the modem wire from the router and plug it into the computer and everything works fine I get a connection. If anyone can help me with this problem i would appreciate it greatly.

Possibly the CD wizard is being blocked by the firewall .... so disable all firewall & antivirus software & then run the CD ....

  • Linksys E2000 Suddenly Choppy When Playing HD Videos

So quick back story. I stream a lot of 720p HD video over my network (both local storage and Internet streaming). I bought the E2000 about 5-6 months ago after my last router stopped working, and it has been working flawlessly up until now.
So a few days ago, I was streaming a live basketball game, and noticed that all of a sudden, it would no longer stream at 3Mbps HD quality (or even 1.5Mbps or 800Kbps; I had to drop it to the lowest setting of 300Kbps to stream, and even then it was iffy). I thought...well, maybe this service is getting more popular, and they just need to fix their pipe.
Then, last night, I went to watch a locally-stored HD video (720p, around 4-5Mbps), which is something I've done almost everyday for the last six months with this router, and when I went to play it, the movie would play for maybe 4-6 minutes without any trouble, and then suddenly, it would just start stuttering (i.e. play 5-10 frames, freeze for 1/4 second, play, freeze, and repeat for the next 20-30 seconds of the movie). It would then play fine again for 5-10 minutes, and then suddenly do the same. It would repeat this process throughout the entire course of the movie.
Now, keep in mind, I've made NO changes to my setup, networking, Internet connection, or file server. I decided to bring up a network monitor to look at the connection while a video was playing, and this is the result:
    http://www.screencast.com/t/N886Il6rE
You can see the normal spikes of data transmission on the left and right of the graph, but then the connection just drops off in the middle. That exactly corresponds to where the video begins to get choppy. Then, when it starts to spike again, the movie beings playing smoothly.
    Things I've tried:
    - I was running in mixed G/N mode, so I tried switching to N-only (only one of my computers has an N adapter, so this would not be ideal for the moment). No luck, still choppy.
    - Tried restarting every single computer, including file server. Still choppy.
    - Tried making sure the router wasn't overheating. We live in a cold region, I stuck it against a window that was 30 degrees F in temperature. Still choppy.
    - I tried changing some of the packet size/frequency settings in the "Advanced" section of wireless setup, messed with the frequency, changed the channels, etc. Still choppy.
    - I checked to make sure I have the latest firmware for the router, I do.
    - Played with relocating all of my antennas and such, even putting them in unsightly places to make sure I'd get a strong signal. Still choppy.
I can't really think of anything else to try, and it's just so odd that this has worked without any trouble for months now. It has to be the wireless function on the router, because when I try streaming it with a wired connection, it works just fine. The ONLY difference I noticed (and I don't know when this happened) is that one of my neighbors set up an N-router, which hasn't been there before. They moved in maybe 1-2 months ago, so I'm guessing that the router has been around for that long, or slightly less...which perhaps could coincide with my timeline for this not working anymore. Could that be a possible issue, and if so...way around it (again, note I've already tried changing channels, etc. I can't run on 5.0GHz frequency because my adapter doesn't support it).
    Thanks!

Hey, I have the exact same issue.
Had this e2000 for over 2 years and never a real issue with it.
Suddenly -- 3 days ago, it started doing this same thing. Fine internet then spiking and dropping occasionally, making playing games/streaming live video imposible. I had made no changes, attached no new devices, or done anything out of the ordinary.
I tried all the same tactics you did. Power Cycled, rebooted computers, power cycled modem etc. I propped it up on some bottle caps to make sure it was getting ventilation (remember though, it hasn't moved from its location in over a year), and then I updated the firmware to the latest version. As part of the firmware reset, I did a hard reset and a power cycle to reset all the settings and then manually configred them myself. Still having these issues.
The wired internet is fine, as one of my roommates can use it and I can connect to it and use it on this curent computer.
    Any answers?

So like a year ago I purchased adobe after effects. I used it almost every day till about 2 months ago till I started using another video editing program. So for 2 months I did not open AE. Today I felt like using it because I felt it would do a better job that sony vegas so I tried to open it. It brought up the purple icon and it gave me an error. ''After Effects error:Crash in progress. Last logged message was (number here changes every time i do it) <dynamiclink> <5> c:/program files/adobe/adobe after effects cs6/support files/32/dynamiclinkmanger.exe.    after this messege it just automatically exits after saying it crashed. The short version is that you either have changed your graphics setup, messed up your CoDecs, done something weird to your media cache or have permissions/ security issues or whatever. Since you failed to provide any system information we can't be any more specific.

  • I have FIOS and the latest version of the Airport Extreme Basestation set up in bridge mode.

OK need some technical answers I have FIOS and am forced to use their Router. I have WiFi turned off on the FIOS router and my New version Airport Exteme Basestation set up in Bridge Mode. I have CAD 5 running to all my Mac computers and a CAD 5 up to the second floor. I have an older version Airport Extreme Basestation that I would like to connect to the CAD 5 cable on the second floor where the WiFi signal is weak as the main Airport is in the basement. How would I connect the second Airport to the Airport that is in Bridge Mode?  Will this setup mess up my signal strength on either CAD 5 or WiFi? I will also have one Macbook Pro plugged into the upstairs Airport. This is mainly for the WiFi for my iPad and iPhone. Details will help. Thanks.

How would I connect the second Airport to the Airport that is in Bridge Mode?
Connect from a LAN <-> port on the Bridge Mode AirPort to the WAN "O" port on the second floor AirPort and then use AirPort Utility on a Mac or iPad to set things up.
Will this setup mess up my signal strength on either CAD 5 or WiFi?
Nothing will be messed up, and you will have a much stronger WiFi signal upstairs.
If you need more details on setup.....we need to know.....
    1) What model number of AirPort Extreme will be upstairs.  The model number is usually embedded in the foam base on the bottom of the device. Starts with an "A" followed by four numbers. Example.....A1143.
    2) What operating system you are using on your Mac, or whether you want to use the iPad for the setup...assuming that the upstairs AirPort is compatible.

  • Laptop Partition Concerns - SOLVED

    Hi there,
    I'm going to be installing Arch on my laptop (well aware of the minefield that is closed hardware and an ATI dual graphics card) alongside windows 7 as there are some features which are not as well implemented; editing .NEF files, for one! Cursory defence of my maintaining a windows partition over, now I get to the real issue;
The laptop I have is an HP, and as such the hard drive come with 4 partitions already on the disk, these being
    SYSTEM,
    C:
    RECOVERY (D:)
    HP_TOOLS
    I've already freed up some 100GB on the hard drive to accomodate the Arch install, however, I'm led to believe that you cannot have more than 4 primary partitions, and all of the above are primary. As I was planning to have 3 linux partitions;
    swap
/home (with symlinks to C:\user\ to make up for a lack of space)
I'm aware that I can delet HP_TOOLS with little disruption to my windows install, but that still then only leaves me with one free partition on the hard drive (I've been led to believe), so I wouldn't be able to have a separate /home partition from my root partition?
If this is too poorly written, or I've missed any similar posts, hopefully I can clarify or be redirected! (I'm not a total newb re: disk partitioning, however, it will be the first time I've dual booted from the same hard drive, rather than having 2 HDDs, one for each OS!)
    Thanks

To be perfectly honest of there were any serious faults with windows I have no problems just reinstalling it (I own a legal copy which I had installed on a desktop pc just after W7 was released) which would also mean I would be free of HP bloatware which comes as default. As far as I'm aware I can get around not having the HP_TOOLS by using some HP software to make a copy of some of that stuff on DVD or what have you.
As far as partitioning goes, it seems to make more sense to convert to GPT rather than faff about with different types of partition (at least to me, although using GRUB2 might pose a few issues with that, but fortunately the wiki seems pretty exhaustive on that matter - one of the reasons I feel safe about trying out Arch!)
@Perbh I've had that happen before, admittedly with ubuntu systems a while back, and it never seemed too much hassle to just reset it all from a live CD or a system recovery disk based on linux, so I don;t mind too much about that! I've had more issues not being able to boot windows alongside linux (after a fluffed linux setup messed up the boot manager, and then windows couldn't figure find ANY of the partitions, although THAT was fixed by use of a recovery CD (I have my windows 7 install disc to hand, so no worries there either, really).
    My only misgiving would be that changing to a GPT rather than the MBR would make life a lot more complicated when installing grub2, as I would be inclined to do, since it's more up to date software, although as far as I can tell it's not overly complex going by the instructions from https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gr … structions, I just have to be careful when I'm partitioning! Which, to be honest, I would probably do prior to running the Arch install, just to ensure I have the partitions where I want them on the disk, to end up with something along the lines of;
    [SYSTEM]  [C:]  [REVOVERY]  [D:]  [HP_TOOLS] ¦ [swap] [EF02 for GRUB2] [/]  [/home]
Hopefully this would still allow me to still boot windows, and then install Arch (with grub2) on a GPT (assuming I got the theory right as far as grub2 on a BIOS-GPT install)
    thanks all for prompt aid!

  • Sound ONLY in right channel from minijack

    Hi
I have a 1.5 GHz 15 inch aluminum powerbook g4, exactly one year old, in perfect working order.
For quite some time now, I've noticed the audio in my bose media mate speakers (1.0) from the left channel has been a bit crackly at times. I thought it was the speaker...I would jiggle the connection and that appeared to do the trick.
The other day, the left channel completely went out. Being the handy man I am, I decided to cut the wire to the left channel speaker and try replacing the connector (as I thought this was the issue). It was, of course, not.
Then, today I went to plug in headphones, and noticed the same thing. NO AUDIO from left channel.
Please note, however, that there appears to be stereo sound coming out of the powerbook's internal speakers.
I have been through sys prefs> sound, and utilities > audio/midi setup, messed around with all the settings....no use. I have the current version 10.4.7 software.
If ANYONE has an thoughts/input/solutions, it is always greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bret

    Internal speakers: OK
External speakers: Not OK. no sound out of left channel
Sounds like your minijack is shot, either the jack itself (unlikely) or the jack's connection to the computer.
Unless you very handy and comfortableopening up your computer, you may want to take it in and have it repaired.

  • P7N motherboard BIOS problem

    Hi,
I just got a P7N board and got it working yesterday.  My build is:
      New parts:
      P7N mobo
Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo CPU
      2x2gb G. Skill 8500 DDR2 RAM
      XFX 9800GTX video card
      I'm reusing :
36gb WD Raptor, 80 gig IDE HDD i'm reusing
      SB Audigy 2zs sound card.
      Coolermaster 600W power supply
Everything worked fine, no problems.  One adjustment I made was change the ddr2 timing in the BIOS to 1066 to match my ram.  I also downloaded the bios update from the MSI website.  I opened it and looked like the directions wanted me to put them into a floppy.  Guess it was stupid of me, but I click the executable "AFUD4234.exe" in the file. there was another file A7380NMS.200 in there, along with directions to flash the BIOS.
My question is : did I accidentally mess up my BIOS by clicking that executable?
Problem now is that I can turn on the computer and it powers up, but there is no display.  The monitor just stays in the standby mode.  So no POST, no loading windows, nothing.
I cannot see anything else in my setup messing up and I've tried to run with only cpu, hdd, video card.  I've also tried both RAM pieces by themselves and also with no RAM installed.  Fan

If you done only that, then no

    Do a >>Clear CMOS Guide<< {With power cord removed}
Also don't update your BIOS when the PC is working just fine.
And never attempt BIOS update if your PC is unstable.

  • IPhone 6 and 6 Plus Setup A Mess

This post is for those of us upgrading from an earlier iPhone, especially the 4S forward. Those new to the iPhone likely will not encounter what's discussed below. I've marked this as a question so others can contribute other solutions/options.
Finally received the new iPhone 6 Plus purchased in early late Sept or early Nov... don't remember. Setting it up turned into a real mess that I believe, were it not that I spent my career in Info Tech, part of the time with Apple, some with Microsoft and so on, the average human will likely end up screwed to the wall when setting up the new generation of iPhone. Here are the issues:
    1) Activation and Setup are TWO different and distinct operations. I add this as there are many posts around that seem to have the two mixed together as one process. Activation is accomplished correctly by following the first two or three steps of the Verizon instruction sheet that ships with the phone. Activation is when the carrier (Verizon) sets their system to recognize your new phone on its network. It takes a couple of minutes and works just fine. Once activation is done you need to do the setup on the iPhone.
    2) The instructions sheet moves on from activation to the steps for setup. At this point you can throw away the instructions because they flat do not work. This, however, is not Verizon's fault; Apple created this mess.
    The Problems:
    1) If you installed the upgrade to iOS 8.0 and then the upgrade to 8.1, or if your old phone was set to update automatically, this can cause trouble during setup.
    2) In the middle of pushing out this new iPhone, Apple also released an update of iTunes. You need the CURRENT version of iTunes--absolutely. On a Mac you likely have it set to update automatically and, if not, check for it and install BEFORE setting up your new iPhone. On a PC running Windows opening iTunes triggers a search for new versions and alerts if you need to update. Do that from the dialog on the Windows screen if it shows up.
    3) Apple shipped the iPhone 6 models with an under the radar version of iOS 8, iOS 8.0.2, and I don't think they released it via the usual channels so most of us never got it. So what? Well, IF the version of the OS you are running on your old iPhone (4S and above) is higher than 8.0.2, as in you installed the 8.1 update, the Restore from Backup in iTunes bombs out. Bottom line--if you didn't install the 8.1 update on your old phone, DON'T.
    How To Survive Setup:
Some of this is from the mouth of an Apple Tech Support rep...
    1) You MUST have/know--your Apple ID and Password (these are the same as you use to access the App Store)--the security access code for your router so you can link to the wireless connection--your keychain code or password if you intend to use it on the new device--the passwords for your email accounts that you use on your iPhone.
    2) You MUST install the most current version of iTunes and BACKUP the contents of your old iPhone. There are two options; one is to the local computer, the other is to iCloud. I recommend the local computer since iCloud access could be problematic if your setup hangs.
    3) Turn on or wake up the iPhone and go through the setup screens. DO NOT turn on Find My iPhone when prompted. DO enter you Apple ID and password when prompted because that gives you access to the iCloud.
    4) At the screen instructing you to connect the device to iTunes, plug in the NEW iPhone. Its icon shows up in the upper left part of the screen. It's small so look carefully. On a Mac iTunes finds the phone quickly. On a Windows PC, a driver is installed before the phone's icon shows up in the iTunes window.
    5) Click on the iPhone's icon in the iTunes window. This takes you to a window with an upper and lower panel AND HERE IS WHERE YOU EITHER GET IT RIGHT OR SCREW IT UP.
    6) In the upper pane is a button (an option) to Reset Phone. This is the option you want--it is counter-intuitive--and Apple Tech Support passed this along. At this point it DOES NOT MATTER if you reset the entire phone because there is no personal data on it yet. NOTE: If you select Restore From Backup and your OS's are out of sync you could end up in a real worm hole (I did).
    7) When the Reset is complete THIS IS THE TIME to click Restore From Backup. You won't run into OS conflicts because in the Reset process your iPhone gets iOS 8.1 installed. The restore can take a while and depends on the amount of data in the backup. Depending on your Sync settings apps from your old phone may be transferred, as will music, videos, contacts and so on. You'll know it's finished when the progress bar at the top center of the iTunes window goes away.
    8) EJECT the iPhone by clicking the eject button in the iTunes window.
    9) Go to Settings/Cellular and enable LTE--the new, faster Verizon network. You can enable it for Voice, Data or both. Doing this improves signal strength and call quality.
    10) Poke around the iPhone and be sure everything critical came over to the iPhone 6 or Plus.
    11) IF it did AND you're going to sell it or do the trade-in $200 thing (a whole other can of worms), ON THE OLD PHONE go to Settings/General and at the very bottom of the choices on the right is one to Reset the phone and you want to select Reset and Erase All Settings And Data. You will be asked for your access code and, perhaps, password before the process begins, AND there are two prompts asking you to confirm this is what you REALLY, REALLY want to do. This should disconnect the phone from iCloud and clear your access code settings.
That should do it. HOWEVER... I don't know if this will happen to you or not. I ended up back at the Hello setup screen several times and if you just make your selections again it works just fine. I don't know why it does this nor do I care. It's not the user's fault.
Good luck and may the farce be with you :-)

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
I did try the options given in the above link.
It went well until the last few minutes where i got the below prompt message in the itunes.
"The iphone 6 had been locked and please enter the passcode on the iphone to process further"
But i dont have control on the iphone to do so.
whenever the mobile is switched ON, It shows only the message "Phone disabled, connect to itunes".
    Please advice.

  • Messed up initial setup of Win Vista on Satellite L40

I can only think I messed up when performing the initial setup of Vista Home Premium on my new Satellite L40.
I've ended up withComputer\Vista C:\Users/comet containing all my stuff AND - outside Vista C: - a complete mirror in Desktop/Chris/........
Can anyone tell me if I can get back to the initial setup screen and how?
I've tried backing up both directories and then deleting them and trying to restore just one directory but the second one reappears too!!
I'm obviously a complete dunce so please remember that and keep your instructions simple!
If no one can help then does anyone know an 0800 number for Toshiba Technical Support?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Yes I can boot up successfully. I wanted to try and have just one directory with all my stuff in and get rid of the mirror image - or am I supposed to have both? Surely it's just taking up valuable space? I warned you that I'm a dunce ...... big sigh..........

  • Can I setup new iPad for someone else from my computer without it messing up my iTunes account?

Would like to know if anyone has done this with success.  My mom wants to mail me her new iPad so I can set it up for her.
    Please advise and thank you.

There is no need for you to use your computer to set up an iPad for your mother. You can do it over the air with WiFi and then you do not have to worry about syncing your content to her device - which I would not recommend anyway.
Why don't you just talk mom through it over the phone. It is a very simple process. Take a look at this. Or if she insists on you setting it up, do it this way.

  • Complete mess of audio setup

For almost a year now, I've had audio play through SPDIF to a 5.1 surround receiver.  Both surround and stereo worked like a charm through 1 cable.  I haven't bothered watching a movie on this system in nearly 2 months, but when I tried to today, I noticed the surround wasn't working.  It wasn't just movies but .ac3 files too.  Aside from being able to hear the difference, my surround receiver has a bright blue light on it that signifies when it's receiving 5.1 audio over digital, and it wasn't turning on.  I do not have pulseaudio installed, because when using SPDIF, you don't really need to configure anything when using just ALSA.  That being said, all analog channels have always been their defaults (so rear left/right, side left/right, and center/LFE are all by default set to front left/right channels).
But my problem gets weirder.  Aside from SPDIF only playing in stereo, I can ONLY get surround sound out of analog!  If I try playing stereo out of analog, it's a garbled noisy mess, but 5.1 channel files play just fine and in their correct channels.  This makes no sense, since I have *never* been able to get surround sound to work out of analog in linux, and I didn't even touch anything.
What I think is going on is ALSA is somehow confusing the analog output with the digital output.
    For some additional information:
    * I'm running KDE 4.11.3 (perhaps the recently updated phonon has something to do with this?)
    * Deleting the phonon settings file did not fix the problem
    * In VLC, I have SPDIF as my main audio device
    * In VLC, I tried using the "Use SPDIF when available" checkbox.  Interestingly, the blue light on the surround receiver turns on when I do this, but I can't hear anything.
    * I do NOT have an active .asoundrc file

Aside from the glitchy window, if what I experienced is normal, I don't think I'm going to want to use MPV.  One of the reasons I avoided mplayer and mplayer2 is specifically because I really don't feel like configuring such programs via a text file, especially when it generates a blank one.  I also like having a configurable playlist and more playback controls directly on the GUI itself.  One of the reasons I liked VLC so much is because it is (or was) a very capable program that let me do everything I wanted to do without having to reference a manual page, and it doesn't depend on other programs (MPV relies on command lines, file browsers, text editors, etc).  MPV may be a very powerful and capable program but I find it too clumsy to use and too slow to configure.  When it comes to media related programs, I don't have the patience to be setting up something like that by hand.  It takes so little to make 1 mistake that breaks everything and not understand why.  GUIs not only speed up the process of configuring a program but they reduce human error because they show everything you can do right in front of you and they let you know what is a valid value. A well-designed GUI will prevent you from making contradictory choices.
I'm fine with using text-based config files (I'm using Arch after all) but if there's 1 thing about linux I hate, it's configuring anything media related by hand.  There's just simply too many paths you can take and it's NEVER clear which ones are the ones you want/need.

  • Messed up Setup Assistant - need to copy TM backups to new ext HD then run Migration Assistant, I think

On a new 27" iMac, I ran the Setup Assistant a couple of days ago to transfer info from TM backups on an external hard drive. Unfortunately, there were clones on there from Feb 2010 (I didn't understand that TM needs to be alone on a HD)  and the Setup Assistant picked ran those preferentially so it appeared that I had lost everything since Feb 2010. HOWEVER, the TM backups are still in the Backups.backupdb folder, and I can access each of the individual files. Now the external HD has not only the 3 clones and the Backups.badkupdb but also folders for Applications, Desktop, dev, Developer, home, Library, net, System, User Guides And Information, and Users. Most are dated to Feb 2010, but the System and Developer folders seem to have been updated to 6 Aug 2012 and 8 Aug 2012. The TM backups contain User info for the Office 2008 suite, including Entourage, and this is what I need -- all of my emails, documents, etc.
I have been trying to copy just the Backups.backupdb folder to a new external HD before doing anything else. I have followed the directions given by Apple at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5096?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US. Unfortunately, this yields a nifty error message: "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003)." I have not found a solution in the Apple communities for this error message in the TM backup copying process - all mentions seem to relate to problems emptying the Trash when deleting TM backups. I have NOT tried the cloning process mentioned in this thread:https://discussions.apple.com/message/16601049#16601049. If the copying process has failed, will the cloning process allow me to pick up JUST the TM backups without damaging the TM backups?
I am thinking that once I have the TM backups successfully copied, I will use that new copy - without the clones - to run Migration Assistant. At this point, will it be better to use Migration Assistant OR go back and delete everything on the new 27" iMac and reload Lion, then run Setup Assistant again? The thought of going back to square one with Lion has me more than a bit rattled, to tell the truth.
Have others had luck with Apple tech support or a Genius Bar visit for such things?
Any guidance or suggestions are much appreciated.

Problem solved by taking the new iMac and the LaCie disk to the local Apple Store. They verified the LaCie disk with Disk Utility (thankfully it passed) then wiped the iMac clean, reinstalled Lion (10.7.3), and loaded the latest TM backup. Everything needed transferred over, so I'm back in business. HURRAY! I am setting up a new external HD for the solitary TM backups, and a separate external HD for clones. And, I now have access to a secure server for temporary storage of critical client files in addition to manually copying critical documents to a flash drive frequently while working on them.

  • Fixing a messed up setup song

    Hey all,
I accidentally started a new song without starting a project, so I now have a bunch of sound files in the main hard drive directory, outside the directory I created for the song. I want to clean it up, and from what I can tell so far, I need to move the files manually and re-import them into their own respective track... is this true or false? Is there a way that is not as obvious to do this? I don't mind doing it because the track names are clear and easy to know where things go, but wanted to know if there was a magic button that says "clean up song into project" or something like that. I can't seem to find one.
(man Apple needs to really consolidate the menus, some of this stuff is a real mess to find and follow)

    Hi, R
    File -> Project -> Consolidate
Kinda like a retroactive 'Save as Project.'
