Cd stuck in drive after superdrive update?

So I have a cd stuck in my optical drive. When I try to eject it comes out about a centimeter then goes back in. Any ideas on how to get this out without damaging the disc?

My old G4 did this once or twice with a movie DVD. Since It came out a little ways I just grabbed it with my fingers (gently) and pulled it out.
It worked well - i was very nervous while i did it, but since I was using my fingers it didn't damage the disk or the drive.
I then restarted and tried a CD (ejected fine), I then tried the DVD again and it ejected just fine.

  • Cannot mount any firewire/USB external drive after software update 10.5.4

After the last software update on 10.5.4 it did not complete the installation, and get stuck at the last step of running installation script for hours. So I have to restart the computer, and it restarted fine. Then I use Disk Utility to check my hard disk, and discovered some file system inconsistency error, so I repaired it (in target disk mode by another Mac). After it is repaired, the file system passed with no error.
But ever since then, I cannot mount any external firewire drive or USB drive. I cannot use Time Machine to backup my disk. I think my firewire and USB ports are fine because I can restart my iMac in target mode and connect to my MacBook via firewire, so the hardwire ports are functional, except that it seems 10.5.4 cannot detect or mount any external drive after the failed software update.
Does anyone encounter similar problem? How can I fix it? I have my disk backed up by TimeMachine but I cannot restore it if it won't let me mount my TimeMachine disk. Is there any other way other than completely reinstall 10.5 from scratch?

first, you should try reinstalling 10.5.4. download the [combo update|http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1054com boupdate.html] and run it. If that doesn't fix the issue, you can use full system restore from TM to go back to a time before the troubles started. to do that boot from the leopard install dvd, once past the language screen go to the Utilities menu at the top and choose "restore from backup".

  • HAL not mounting removable drives after system update

I updated all packages yestarday and after reboot, some xfce4 stuff wouldn't work (which I suppose is kinda understandable since the update seems to be big). No problems with that, quickly re-configured what was causing trouble.
HAL isn't working at all now though. I can mount usb disks manually, but nothing happens when I insert them... I followed many HAL troubleshooting instructions in the Wiki and even in these forums, but with no success.
Here's my hal.conf (to which I had to re-add the last lines because they were gone after the update. The file was apparently back to it's default values.)

  • Macbook is stuck loading iCloud after system update

I updated my computer last night and after it rebooted iCloud asked me for my password. After trying to enter it several times I ended up clicking "forgot password", ever since it has been stuck on the loading screen. I have tried to force close but nothing happens. I even tried to let it die to see if it would start the process over, but it's still on the loading screen.

  • MBP error code after superdrive update

After installing that superdrive firmware update a few weeks ago, i get this message everytime i reboot my MBP:
    "No Updateable Devices Found
No devices were found that require this firmware update"
and i can't make it stop. Help?

If the updater appears in the Dock, control-click it and uncheck Open at login from the menu which appears. Otherwise, open the Accounts pane of System Preferences and remove it from the list of login items for your account.

  • IMac does not see my external hard drive after recent update

Is there a reason why my external hard drive is not being 'seen' by my iMac after the most recent update to the system?

Powered hard drive and iMac down, plugged hard drive in, turned on iMac, connected hard drive.  Bingo.

  • [Solved] Failed to format flash drive after recent update(3/6/2013)

    Hello,
I'm experiencing failure at formatting my flash drive to ext2,3,4, fat32(or possibly any possible format).
This happens after the recent system update which includes filesystem, I wonder if that's the reason.
    So I followed the instructions here : https://www.archlinux.org/news/binaries … ervention/
and I start to fail at formatting my flash drive using mkfs, while mkfs on live CD 2013.05.01 works perfectly.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I once had a very odd occurrence that - being an isolated incident - I still don't really understand.  But it seemed no matter what I did I could not erase data from a flash drive.  I'd dd from /dev/zero, reformat, put it on a different computer, and it'd indeed be empty.  But then when I plugged it back in to my computer it showed up as populated with a bunch of files that used to be on it.
It seemed like there must have been a filesystem created on my own harddrive that was being mounted to the mount point when the usb drive was detected - so what I was seeing wasn't really on the usb, but was on my drive.
I don't know if it is possible to accidentally format a mount point rather than a device - I would think it should fail, but I can't help but wonder if something like that is going on: when the usb is plugged into your machine, the locally created filesystem is being mounted, but when you plug the usb into another computer, it's obviously not there.
Some steps that may avoid whatever could cause this:
    1) reboot to have a fully fresh start.
    2) make sure any automounting utilities are disabled
    3) partition/dev/sdX and format /dev/sdXn as usual
    4) sync, to ensure all disk io is flushed.

  • Q10 stuck at reboot after software update - PLEASE HELP

    Hello
I was checking for software updates for my Q10 yesterday and was informed that there is a new update
I clicked on download and install, and it asked me to reboot when it was done. After that it loaded very slowly until it reached 99% 6 hours later and it remained like that for 12 hours
What I did this morning was remove the battery and sim card and I reinserted the battery, the same thing happened again and it is moving very very slowly
Can you please help?? I would rather find away in which I do not loose my BBM contacts since I have not backed up my phone...are the contacts stored on my blackberry ID or will I loose them if I reset the phone?
    Thank you very much

It finally powered on after 3 battery pulls, but now it does not make or receive calls (((
Everytime I connect it to blackberry link it says software update available, so I clicked on install, it said downloading update and then nothing happens, the download bar becomes full then nothing changes
I also tried to reload device software, i got a message saying checking repair software and it stayed like that for 3 hours then the device rebooted but nothing happened at all
I even tried redoing the software update from the phone itself 3 times, everytime it would say update successful but the phone would still not make or receive calls
Please help I dont know what to do....could the problem with blackberry link be that im using it on a mac??
    I appreciate your help

  • I inGalaxy s4 stuck on 3g after NG6 update

stalled the NG6 update last night and ever since I have been stuck in 3g mode.  Before the update I was getting 4g.  I have tried clearing the cache and restarting in safe mode, and removing the SIM card.   My next move is to go to the store and get the SIM card replaced.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?

        Andy61,
That is not good news that your wife is not able to take advantage of the fastest data network around! Lets take a further look into this issue. If you can try powering the device off and pull the sim card out of the device for about 5-10 minutes to let the device reset itself from the network. What iPhone model does your wife have? Since you have already done a master reset and that has not resolved the issue, it could be that we might need to replace the SIM card since this is what connects your device to our towers. Please keep us posted!

  • Problem with CD drive after Security update 2006-004

I just updated my emac, running 10.3.9 with security update 2006-004. Now, my CD drive will not stay closed when a cd is inserted. If I remove the cd, the drawer will stay close, but when I insert a cd (any kind music, game...) it close momentarily then spit it back out.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Did you get the security update via Software Update or as a stand-alone download?
Does the CD eject itself if you logon to a different user account?

  • MacBook Pro stuck on bluescreen after security update, help?

Hello, I have downloaded the latest security update and my MacBook has been stuck on this blue screen with a little download wheel at the bottom of the screen for about seven hours now. What should I do?

Force a safe boot by pressing and holding the power button until the machine shuts down, then pressing it again briefly. Hold down the shift key at the chime and release it when the gray Apple logo appears. If you're able to log in, just reboot as usual. If you can't log in in safe mode, boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and reinstall the Mac OS.

  • Assistance Please: Stuck in Leopard after HD update

Last week the HD on my mid-2009 13" MBP hard drive died.  I ordered and received a Crucial SSD drive and installed it without issue. I was able to use disc utility from my install disk to see the new drive and format it. However I am having issues getting the computer back to Mountain Lion.
The MBP initially came with Leopard (have discs). Then upgraded to SL (legally) and have upgrade CD. ML was a download. I have tried several times to install from the SL CD and keep getting error messages. I can install the Leopard OS without issue and computer works fine running Leopard.
(Both  install discs see the new HD and there are no errors noted installing Leopard. So I am certain the new drive and formatting is correct.)
So I thought okay, a bit of a pain but will install Leopard, then upgrade using CD to SL, then download the upgrade to  ML. When I try this the SL CD runs normally and seems to progress without issue. Then asks for a restart. But when it restarts it boots back into Leopard! I cannot get SL installed. I have tried several times.  What am I doing wrong?
The only thing I can think of is since it is the upgrade CD for SL and not the full OS perhaps it is not letting me as it recognizes this is a new HD?
    Thoughts? Solutions?
    Many thanks in advance.

OK i have had a little luck
I removed the USB and tried another port. and it seems to be connecting at the moment .
