CD stuck in DVD drive

My Equium has died and I have a very important CD in the drie which will not eject. Can anyone tell me how I can get it out without having to get ´physical´ with the machine.
Are there any instructions anywere on removing the drive from the laptop?
Thanks

Sometimes the disk could get stuck in some process so you should be able to get the disk out by turning off the notebook, then turn it on again and press the eject button after turning it on again, this can be done as the Windows OS loads or at anytime.
If the disk still doesn't come out, then the disk must be in a bad posision on thr disk tray or there is a hardware issue with the DVD-ROM drive.
If you turn of the notebook, take out the DVD-ROM drive by holiding the eject sliders as you take it out and there may be a way to open it with screws etc. You can take it to a computer shop for them to look at the drive for you - they can find a way of getting disk out and assess if there is problem with it and can replace the drive or tell you the disk wasn't sitting on the tray properly.

  • Small dvd stuck in dvd drive

My son stuck a small dvd into the dvd drive in my MacBook Pro and now I can't get it out.  The size of the dvd is much smaller than standard... it came with a watch I bought my husband for Christmas.  Any ideas on how to eject?  I tried going to Launchpad and Terminal and typing in drutil eject when prompted.  Unfortunately that didn't work.

You may have to take the computer to the Apple store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider

  • Disc stuck in DVD drive

    Hi
I have a disc stuck in my drive. When I eject its stats to come out, sounds like it gets wedged, then goes back in again. Is this as serious as I fear and is there an easy way to get the disc out without resorting to striping out the drive.
    Many Thanks

  • Dvd stuck in Dvd drive, won't eject, tried everything

Hi, I inserted a dvd into the dvd drive and I had headphones on so I couldn't tell but I don't think it made any noise at all when I put it in, meaning it didn't pull it in like it normally does. It just kind of slid in and got too far so that I can't pull it out. I have tried everything. Hitting eject shows the eject symbol on the screen but does nothing. It does not show and dvd on the desktop and it isn't making any noise at all. I have restarted and tried holding the mouse button down on startup which did not work and tried getting it out with a thin card as suggested in other places. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I don't know how helpful this is, but I just luckily got out of a similar situation. I tried all advice on this page, nothing worked. The CD was still stuck in the drive, and despite the fact that I could hear it running during start-up, it did not show up on the desktop and the dvd-drive was no longer recognized by the system.
I've had a disc stuck once before, and then I eventually had to give up and send the macbook to apple.
So, this is what I did. Since after booting the disc stops turning and the unit goes to sleep, or rather coma in this case, I went into system preferences menu and adjusted so that the harddrive never goes to sleep, nor rests. This page (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051207044615606&query=lingon) motivated me to do so, since this will affect all drives, including the optical one, apparently.
Turns out, after restarting the computer the ordinary eject button suddenly did the trick!
Hope your problem can be solved the same way.

  • Flake of Paper stuck in DVD Drive

    Hi,
I made a stupid mistake. I took a CD that had its label flaking off and a bit of it broke off in my DVD drive. It will still accept and eject CD's, but no longer reads information from them. It makes a slow whirring noise when a disc is in and never reaches maximum speed. Any ideas on how to get this thing out without having to send to Apple? I have some compressed air, but I was wanting to see people's advice before doing anything.
    Thanks,

Since it is probably still visible, I'd take the longest sharp sewing needle you can muster and tease it out.
Try it once or twice and if there's no luck, take it to the Geniuses at the Bar. After all, it is still under warranty.
Should this occur again later down the road when there's no warranty, the quickest solution is to drop the bottom pan, dismount the drive and reach inside to take the debris out. Far easier when the drive is in your hand. IFixIt.com has detailed pictorials of what needs to be done to get the drive out and put it back in safely.

  • Mini-CD stuck in DVD drive - I'm an idiot.

I put one of those 1/2 size mini-CD's into my drive. yeah. It's stuck and the computer can't even see it or feel it apparently. It's not grabbing onto anything so it can't eject it. What do I do?!?!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, TrishEB.
    1. Have you tried restarting the PowerBook and then keep the trackpad button pressed?
    2. Alternatively, you can try restarting and then keep the following keys pressed: apple-alt-O-F
When you see a white screen with some black text, type: eject-cd
    and then press return.
    3. Another option is to use a pair of precision tweezers and very gently use it to try and grab the edge of the CD so that you can pull it out. There may be a chance that the CD has not gone too far into the drive, thus enabling you to reach it with the tweezers.
    4. If you are feeling even more adventurous, and none of the above work, you might consider using a very thin strip of card/paper with a little piece of double-sided tape on one side.
    5. Finally, if all the above fails, take it to an Apple Store or an Apple Authorised Service Provider.

Boot with the option key down.  You will see a window showing all the bootable systems.  Select the OSX boot and hit return.  Once you are booted into OSX, use the Startup Disk system preferences to change your default boot volume.

  • DVD stuck in disc drive

    Hi everybody,
I currently have a DVD stuck in my disc drive. I fell asleep yesterday night watching the DVD using the "DVD Player" application that is the default for playing a DVD. When I woke up, DVD Player wouldn't quit and I had to force quit the program. I didn't use the DVD Player for the rest of the day, but in the evening, I tried to reopen DVD Player to finish the DVD. It said: "There was an initialization error. A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]" I tried to eject the disc by pressing the "eject" button on the keyboard, but that did absolutely nothing. Now the DVD is stuck in the drive, not showing up on my computer, and I am not able to eject it. What can I do to get it out?
    Thanks
    -Marsha

Apart from the fact that you would need to use the mouse button, rather than the MBP's trackpad button, no, it shouldn't make any difference. Try shutting down the Mac (rather than restarting), then booting it up again while holding down the primary mouse button.
Another trick is to start up Disk Utility and , if the disc is visible, eject it from there.
Sometimes, if the problem is actually due to the drive itself not being recognised as present, a "PRAM reset" will make it appear again.
On PowerPc Macs you can achieve the same result using "open firmware" commands, but unfortunately these don't work with the Intel models.
    Cheers

My mac was being slow.. i tried a lot of stuff but finally decided to just clear the disk and reinstall snowleapord. I had done this before and solved the problem slowness issue. I've tried everything to get it out. Holding down the mouse, drutil eject tray in terminal, disk utility, booting and holding eject.. Nothing has worked. the disc spins on waking up or starting up but it is never recognized, its never on the desktop doesn't show up in disk utility.. I don't know what to do at this point and i think its starting to effect my mac. Spinning wheel on almost every application and obviously battery problems from the disc being spun every time i open it in class. Its finals week and i need my mac for notes/papers/tests etc.. so i cant take it to the nearest apple store for a couple weeks.. please help. thanks!

Try pressing the eject button in the top right corner of your keyboard (it the one next to volume increase).
I had this problem with a DVD + R and after trying everything I realized there is an eject button.

  • Cd/dvd drive gets stuck

    Hi,
I have had this recurring problem for two years. My CD/DVD drive will not spit out certain CDs DVDs. They get stuck when I try to eject; then they start running again. They always eventually come out, but it is extremely irritating. I've taken it to the Apple store, but they told me that it is a flawed disc. Anyone else have this problem and does anyone know how I can manually eject discs when this occurs next?
    Thanks.

  • Stuck: Need Disk repair but DVD drive dead and only have USB 1

[1 Ghz flat-panel iMac with USB 1 ports (no USB 2) and also Firewire 400]
I noticed a strange discrepancy (small but concerning) between the size of a folder on hard drive (folder of all mp3's with no subfolders) and the backup of the same folder on a mounted thumb drive.
(The size difference was not due to any invisible .DS_Store files and both folders are displayed in List view format.)
    Disk Utility reports three things:
    1. Incorrect number of thread records
    2. Volume Bit Map needs minor repair
    3. Checking volume information.
Volume free block count",0)   [I might have mangled this line]
(It should be 13438611 instead of 13437937)
Here is the GOOD (but these are useless as explained under the "Bad"):
    - I have a Tiger 10.4 boot DVD for a repair ==>but see below
    - I also have a Disk Warrior disk (never used)
    Here is the BAD:
    - My built-in optical drive [Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105] is -- I now discover - defunct and DEAD - it does not run the Tiger Boot DVD (in pristine shape).
    - I bought an external SuperDrive (unopened) but I believe no boot from USB 1 is possible in PowerPC so a SuperDrive with USB 1 is useless.
    Questions:
1.) Is there any way to boot from some external source (optical drive is DEAD) to run Disk Utility and/or Disk Warrior? -- I see none in this case! (gulp).
2.) More importantly (and this is my fundamental concern): Do the three Disk Utility hard drive issues constitute any direct threat to the integrity of my files?
I have almost everything backed up to duplicate thumb drives over these many months as standard practice.
Are these Disk Utility errors fully isolated to hard drive directory-keeping...or do these directory damage errors pose the possibility of mangling or harming my files or their metadata (filesize, etc.).
Put another way, when files are backed-up from a hard drive under the Disk Utility reports above, do they remain unharmed and undamaged by the situations reported by Disk Utility?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Jeff and Michael,
Thank you both for your generous and thoughtful input.
Michael: As I slept on it overnight, the exact same idea occurred to me of trying a Target Mode to the iMac from my Lion MacbookPro (I have it but stupidly have yet to use it much!).
I did buy a Firewire 800 (MBP) to Firewire 400 (iMac) adapter cable a few months ago!
CONCERN: Would there be potential compatibility issues or risks in running Lion 10.7's Disk Utility against the hard drive of the old OSX 10.4 iMac in Target Disk Mode?
==> Assuming an "it's ok" answer to the Target Disk question, would the majority of users agree that the Target Disk Mode would be more prudent than running:
fsck -fy   in Single User Mode
I have never done fsck -fy before especially because I was under the impression there were issues with Journaled drived but from what I have read today...it looks ok to do)
Jeff: Can't thank you enough for the reference to the OTW DVD drive. I might first invest $10 in one of those DVD lens cleaner disks that I've read about. It's probably not the issue or else why would the drive read commercial Music cds perfectly well!
    Thanks,
    Bilil
