CD stuck in my CD drive

I inserted a smaller than a regular sized disk into my macbook pro's CD drive and now I can't get it out. What should I do?

I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

If yo want to try using a credit card to try to guide it out of the drive but I would be afraid of damaging something.

hey guys, so I have a DVD stuck in the CD drive on my mac. It reads it as being in there, but I cannot eject it and it is causing my a lot of issues with my mac. If i try to eject it, Finder acts up and I have issues saving projects or even browsing files. I feel like it interferes with iPhoto as well because it says it is locked and I have no rights to view it. I wanted to see if anyone else had/s this issue and how you fixed it before lugging it into the apple store and being without a computer for a few weeks...

A few other suggestions here as well:

  • How do you eject a cd stuck in your disk drive??

how do you eject a cd stuck in your disk drive??

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • There i something stuck in my disk drive

My macbook pro has something stuck in the disk drive
can i fish it out or something?
im scared to open it or void warranty

I would take it to your nearest apple store or AASP as you may accidentally damage something in the process of trying to remove it yourself.

  • If something small got stuck in your disk drive what steps do you take to remove it?

if something small got stuck in your disk drive what steps do you take to remove it?

Depending on the model of Mac I would first try to tilt the unit to see if you can get whatever you got stuck in there nearer the edge. Do not shake the Mac to move the object - you could cause damage to internal components.
The next best thing is to use a very fine pair of tweezers or pliers and try to remove the object. Sometimes a credit card or firm business card may also help you move the object nearer to the lip of the optical drive.
Be warned though - you are not supposed to stick anything into the optical drive yourself to try and remove something as you could cause further damage. Your best bet is to take it into an Apple Store and have them remove it. Just as another warning though - this would count as accidental damage and so is not covered under your Applecare if you have it. You'll have to pay out of pocket to get the object removed.

  • CD Stuck in iMac Disc Drive, Mechanical Problem

I, surprisingly, could not find a good solution for this on Google because of the vast number of people with software-related disc jams and bad tutorials.
I put a Windows 2000 recovery disc in my Mac so I could test to see if I could make a disk image from it and mount it as a real CD...anyway, I should have known that the HP-made disc would get stuck in my drive. It felt kind of strange as if it was the wrong thickness.
Now, I cannot eject it nor can I see the disc trying to be ejected due to the flaps on the drive blocking it. I tried feeling around with a credit card, but there was a metal bar blocking the disc. If I try to eject it, it keeps trying over and over again but can never eject it.
I'm looking for a hardware-related way to get this out. I know about the "click on bootup" and "force eject" methods, but those will not work.

I can't recall exactly what I did to make the credit card work that first time. About 1/3 the way from the edge of the slot (top of the slot on my iMac), you can feel some mechanism that's closed normally. When you go to eject the disc you can feel that mechanism open and you can hold it open using the card. I recall it took a lot of fiddling to get the thing to pop out, so I can't say exactly what I did. You can try to use the card to sort of coax the disc out or push it up or down, depending on which way it's having trouble ejecting...
Sometimes you can see the disc poke out a little only to do back in. In those times I've thought about getting a pair of tweezers to grab it, but usually didn't end up having to. Could be a two-person job.
If nothing works, before taking it to a shop I'd try opening the bezel. I don't know how or why but that really did the trick for me last time I went through this.

  • Something stuck in my optical drive

And unluckily it's not a CD or DVD. There's an SD card stuck in there (never lend anything to your housemates) and I've tried to grab hold with a piece of paper, and also inserted and ejected a CD to try and coax it out but it just won't move. What are my options and if it needs to be fixed in the Apple Store will it be covered on AppleCare?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Options may be few, depending on how far in it actually went. (It's not like you can insert tweezers or pliers in there...)
The fact that you got a CD in and out of it sounds like the SD card might be accessible if you can get the drive out. This MIGHT help: http://fastmac.com/downloads/macbook_superdrive.pdf. (You mostly will be interested in steps 1-31, max.)
Please note the term "might." There are no guarantees. Once you have the drive out, you might be able to open it up and remove the card. It's a lot of work, but beats shaking the MacBook to dislodge it, possibly scratching the reader in the process.
Outside of that, a trip to the Apple store sounds like it's in order. I do not know if AppleCare will cover this.

  • Stuck disk in the drive

I'm trying to clean out & re-install tiger, The disk is not reading & is now stuck in the drive.  The computer is unresponsive except to shut down & start,  it shows only black with small white type  bla bla... panic; we are hanging in there.....
Is there a startup keybiard command to eject the disk?

Hold a mouse click while starting.
Or, pull down the tower drive cover/door, locate the small hole to the lower right of the tray, insert a straightened paper clip and push the tray open.

  • A CD is stuck inside my disk drive!

I CD got pushed into my disk drive and now it won't eject. It also won't read the drive. It keeps making noises when I open the laptop and log on as if it is trying to eject, but it never works. I'm pretty sure my disk drive is dead, but any way to get the disk out?

Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
      1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
      2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
      3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
      4. Press COMMAND-E.
      5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:
            /usr/bin/drutil eject
If this fails then try this:
Boot the computer into Single-user Mode. At the prompt enter the same command as used above. To restart the computer enter "reboot" at the prompt without quotes.

  • Disk Utility stuck whilst wiping hard drive?

    Hey everyone,
I'm getting ready to sell my old Powerbook G4 so booted up from the installation CD, and ran Disk Utility to do a 8 Way Random Write pass on the Mac hard drive before I did a clean install (the disc is Mac OS X 10.3.7).
I selected the top option in the drive panel of Disk Utility (the one saying 92.2GB Hitatchi blablabla) rather than the indented disk beneath it.
All went fine doing the overwrite, however it seems to have become stuck on "Creating Partition Map" - it's been like that for half a day now. Any thoughts? Should I have chosen the indented drive underneath the main description?
    All help appreciated!

    You're welcome, Simon.
Yes I'm pretty confident it was wiped as the Partition map is created at the end when it hung.
If you have any doubts you could erase it again, but just simply zero all data, that 8 way random write is overkill, but I don't think you need to do it again. You are also going to lay a new OS over a lot of the disk soon too.
There is no indented volume now because you erased it.
Yes reformat it, which will create a new volume, and make sure it is called Macintosh HD.
A very comprehensive guide by Cornelius can be found below, though many of the steps you can skip because they won't be relevant to you, but it covers almost everything.
Formatting, Partitioning, Zeroing a Hard Disk Drive step by step by Cornelius
Also once you have done that you might like to present to the new owner the brand new installation, when they start it up and are presented with the Welcome screen, to which they set up their accounts.
+After installing the new operating system, At the point your registration process starts, abandon the registration, quit and eject the disk and switch of the computer.+
+This will allow the new user a freshly installed system, whereby they can complete the registration process themselves. Make sure you hand on the disks.+
With an erased HD and a newly installed OS, you will be passing a clean bright button!

  • IPod Classic stuck in reboot--hard drive failure?

    Hi,
My husband's Classic froze; he pushed the center and Menu button to restart, and it became stuck in the reboot mode. The apple flashed for a minute, then it restarted over and over again. I've gone through a reset step--holding the center button and the play button to put it in disk mode and trying to reset it--but iTunes came up with an error. I'm wondering if the hard drive has failed.
I was able to access the SMART data:
    Retracts: 7
    Reallocs: 2
    Pending Sectors: 7
    PowerOn Hours: 472
    Start/Stops: 452
    Temp: Current 27c
    Temp: Min 14c
    Temp: Max 47c
Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

No the Hardisk is still good, those nu,mbers are still low. but the filesystem maybe corrupted.
If you have a Mac, use DiskUtility->FirstAid->Repair.
If Windows use a hardisk repair apps.
    But try this Reset first.
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

Iphone 6 stuck in updating mode on icloud drive update, I have version 8.3, with optus, have tried reset, turning off and updated version , still spinning wheel and stuck.

  • How to remove a stuck CD/DVD in drive

I recently purchased a new to me MacBook. I had a new hard drive installed, and I told the technician that I'd install the system software. I guess I forgot to tell him to format the drive. I went to install Snow Leopard, and nothing happened! I tried to eject the install CD by holding down the eject key and it wouldn't come out. I guess it needs a system installed to eject a disk. Does anyone have suggestions on how to eject a CD disk? Thank You.

With your install DVD in the optical drive reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. You should see your hard drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected apartition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility. You can now follow the instructions on the install screen
