CD stuck in my laptop.

One more question, the other day i was trying to burn a cd on my laptop and it is now jammed and wont eject. i turned the laptop off and on and it came out but then i decided to try it again, was a fail. any secret way i can get it out ?

Reboot and hold down the track pad. Other than that if it's jammed I would take it to an Apple store or AASP.

  • Pen stuck in the laptop! what do i do?

    Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Tablet PC - Intel Centrino Duo Core 2 Duo L7500 1.6GHz - 12.1" SXGA+ - 2GB DDR2 SDRAM - 120GB - DVD-Writer (DVDR/RW) - Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth - Windows Vista Business - Black - 776796U $1450 buy.com
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I just had my pen get stuck in my x61t, and didn't want to deal with the hassle of taking/shipping it someplace.  "Remove the label C screws" wasn't a very useful set of instructions for me, so I'm describing the process here.  This should apply to the x61t and x60t.
Basically, the right-click button on the pen has broken (you might not think it is, mine didn't appear broken until the pen became stuck), causing the switch that detects the pen's presence in the pen bay to catch on the hole where the right-click button belongs.  In my case the pen was not stuck due to a problem with the mechanism that normally holds the pen in place (which attaches to the clip on the pen), so you'll maybe have to do something slightly different if you suspect that. You should know if that is the case later because the tip end of the pen won't feel like it is stuck on anything if you try to move it once it is exposed.
To get at the pen compartment, I ended up having to remove the palm rest almost entirely, which requires removing the keyboard. Removing the palm rest isn't probably strictly necessary, but makes it a lot easier.  The keyboard is easy to remove.  It is held by 4 "C" screws on the bottom of the laptop, then put a small screwdriver in one of the small holes marked with a keyboard icon on the bottom of the laptop to pop it up partially.  Once the space bar end of the keyboard is up (you have to pry it out from under the palm rest, it helps to slide the keyboard towards display hinge end of the laptop a little), slide the keyboard towards the palm rest to unhook the top edge.Lift up the keyboard a little, and disconnect the keyboard connector from the laptop.  It should pry up with only a little pressure from your fingernail at the two left corners of the connector.  There is a clear strip of plastic to the right of the connector that looks like it is part of it, but it is separate, leave it alone.  Once the keyboard is up, move it away and you might as well shake out all the dirt someplace while you're at it.
The palm rest requires the "A" screw on the bottom of the laptop near where the pen goes in AND 6 "C" screws to be removed (so now all "C" screws except the two on the display end of the bottom of the laptop are removed).  You can't just remove C screws, you need to remove the "A" screw, this is important!!  Removing all this will loosen up the palm rest, but it is still partially hooked into the case on the left & right sides.  To unhook the edge by the hard drive, I recommend removing the large unlabeled screw next to the microphone jac to remove the hard drive bay cover.  Then you can unhook that side by gently pulling out (to your right) and down on the "hook" part that was previously somewhat inside the bay cover. The other side of the palm rest should release mostly on its own.
The tricky part now is that the hole for the right-click button of the pen is stuck to the pen switch assemply (which is attached to the laptop, towards the hinge side of the pen bay), while the eraser end of the pen is in the pam rest, so you still can't remove the palm rest all the way.  What I found worked is to gently raise the palm rest without forcing it, just enough so that the tip of the pen can be reached by a finger or tool.  Push on the eraser end of the pen to push the pen farther into the pen bay and, while still pushing on the eraser end, gently reach under the palm rest and pull the now exposed tip of the pen up and towards you. Pushing on the eraser end once or twice while doing this should free the pen to eject normally.  The right-click button will probably shoot off of the pen on its way out.
If you want to instead try to remove the minimum possible (just loosen the palm rest and not remove the keyboard), you need to remove at least the 4 "C" screws on the palm end of the laptop and the one "A" screw.  Raise the palm rest as little as possible without forcing, get a tool in there to pull the tip end of the pen up and toward you, and push the eraser end of the pen.  This didn't unstick the pen for me because I couldn't see what I was doing or needed to do, but is probably possible.
Hope this helps someone.  The maintenance manual for x60t/x61t is at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-66749 and has some diagrams that help.  Page 83 has a diagram of the pen switch assembly (don't follow those instructions though, you don't have to all that!), and page 68 shows how to remove the palm rest.

  • I have a CD stuck in my laptop...

Any tips/tricks to get a cd out of the side slot ? It is trying to get it out but it keeps re-loading it instead

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • Stuck key on Laptop Keyboard

I, like a fool, left my laptop open on my bed and I believe my dog stepped on te keyboard, or someting weighty was put ontop of it. Tis isnt a big problem except now my "H" key will only type if i push down rater firmly.
My question is, how can I minimize the damage until i can get to a genius bar? Also, will tis be fixable in a short period of time? I move back to college in two weeks and will need a fully functional keyboard by then.
    Tanks!

Is it under any sort of warranty coverage (i.e., AppleCare)? If it is, take as-is to the Store and let them handle it, unless you want to pay for the repair.
If not, [here's a DIY manual on keyboard take-apart|http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Manuals/Apple-Key-Replacement.pdf] that you can follow. If you should break off a keycap, [they also have replacements available|http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Keyboards--Keys-p-1-c-440.html].

  • CD/DVD got stuck :( how to disconnect part by part the laptop to retreive cd!

    Laptop : Satellite A505-S6980
Okay so here is the situation, I was planning on trying out my DVD player on my laptop and I put the DVD on the player in my laptop and as it closed I noticed it slipped a bit off the player, so I opened it and the CD was gone. I got a flashlight and noticed it stuck inside, tried my best to slip it out but it wouldn't budge. I know about the certain requirements of size for CDS to be able to fit but thats not helping. I would like to know if anyone knows how I can disconnected part by part of my laptop to be able to retrieve my stuck DVD. My friend is really computer/laptop savy so I know I don't need to ask toshiba people to help,  can anyone help me out here? its stuck

I found a way to open the DVD/CD, I just installed a new hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite C655, but the DVD player does not work. I have no longer a warranty with Toshiba, but I have a extended warranty with the company I bought the computer with (Fingerhut). My laptop has been in service more than I can use it! Fingerhut techsupport would have to replace my laptop with a new one if it brakes one more time. I send it in for repair due a loose lid and the hard drive went out again. I got a broken laptop back which they are stating I broke the buttom case by dropping the laptop, but I did not drop my laptop. This is the reason the hard drive went out, at least that is what they are saying. They are also saying they took pictures of the broken laptop and I made the warranty void, becouse of that! I unscrewed the screw which holds in the CD/DVD player, but it is stuck in the laptop. Can someone please guide me how to get the DVD play out and replace it

  • My Laptop failed. Please help

Hi guys, so 3 days ago My laptop "crashed". I can't really find any other word to describe but basically I was unable to boot up pass the grey screen. It just shut down.
So I decided to go into the Recovery Mode to restore my Macbook from scratch, however, all I have done is failure. I cannot reinstall Mac OS Lion. I cannot install Mac Leopard from the disc. I only need a MAC OS X so I can get access to my encrypted WD Hard Drive and back it up from Time Machine.
All details of my case can be found from this quote, which is a thread that I started on a different forum.
Thanks for paying attention and please help me. I'm having exam in 2 days and now I'm stuck with this Safari-only brick.
Hi guys, I'm a new member of this forum. Right now I am posting this in Recovery Mode on my Macbook Pro. I'm having an exam in 2 days and now I am stuck fixing my laptop
My laptop is the early 2011 model 2.3 Ghz Macbook Pro. Since I bought it I haven't done any modification to the hardware. All I have been doing is surfing Internet and recently I have been playing Diablo.
I take care of my laptop but it fails me.
Recently I experienced terrible performance on my laptop. Starting with whatever that has to do with flash, anything, music from myspace, Youtube ..etc.. that is played on Safari, it just freezes safari and my Mac very often. Whenever I play Youtube, it normally plays smooth for 1 or 2 videos and then start freezing up, the video would be frozen but the sound still goes. It's very annoying.
Until 3 days ago, my Mac just goes frozen, everything, Finder, VLC ..etc.. in a time interval. I could not even watch a movie on my laptop, VLC just got frozen every 2 minutes. Even when I use Finder to open through my files, it just freezes often. I had to restart before being able to watch a movie.
Eventually, yesterday, everything goes back again. I thought the restart fixed my issue. Suddenly my whole macbook freezes. Let me say this again, MY WHOLE MACBOOK, everything. I have never experienced this, even my mouse, I could not do anything other than hitting the power button to force restart.
After this, I can't get my Macbook to boot up. It would not go pass the grey screen. The first time it starts up, it took me 30 minutes to fully finish the loading bar at the grey Apple screen. It let it load, thinking it would take a while then everything will be back into places. Then it shuts down. After that, I tried like 10 times but nothing happens, after passing the grey screen the macbook just shuts down itself.
So I went into a Hardware test. I tried several times but It always stucks at Pass Item 1, testing items. It would come to a phase when the mouse responsiveness is very slow and I could not stop it by Command + . like instructed but had to force shut down.
I went into Recovery Mode, verify my HD, repair it. I believe my HD is fine, the S.M.A.R.T status says verified. I'm lucky my Hard Drive is not failed. So I erase my whole HD to restore it fresh.
I have everything backed up on a WD Mybook 2 TB Hard drive. However I cannot use this by any chance because I foolishly encrypted my whole external hard drive. Normally everytime I plug it in I had to put my passcode through an application called "WD UNLOCKER". Now that I can't access to anything except the Recovery Mode. I could not unlock my HD to use the backup. I did try the Backing up from Time Machine option, however my Time Machine HD would not show up, simply because it is not unlocked yet. If anyone knows how to unlock this, or to access WD UNLOCKER from Terminal, please tell me.
I tried reinstalling Mac Os Lion from the Recovery Mode. The first time I let it start and went to work. After 6 hours I came back and it was stuck at "Downloading additional components .. ". It would not change, it was stuck. My internet connection is VERY stable because during the whole time, i use my iPhone to access the Internet.
I tried the second time reinstalling Mac Lion last night. It was going all right. It finished the first phase then got into "Downloading Additional Component" again, this time it was going VERY VERY slow. So I slept for 4 hours, I woke up this morning and saw my laptop screen on the Recover Mode with the 4 options shown, nothing has changed. I didn't know what happened but I don't think I will try downloading 4 GB of Lion again.
Last night, I also try installing Mac Leopard from the startup disc. But it took very slow. Nothing froze but the ETA was stuck at 21 minutes remaining and it would not move. So I think I will try this again today and leave it while I go to work.
I need to install some type of system on my Mac in order to get access to my Time Machine backup HD and restore it. If my Snow Leopard install is successful, I will upgrade it back to Lion by any mean.
Update : Installing Mac leopard failed twice due to : " Could not copy necessary support files ".
Thank you for paying attention to my post and read the whole thing. Please, please help me with this.

Go rerun the Apple hardware test, run the extended test, and let it finish.  It can take anwhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to complete.  Pass 1 is the memory pass and takes the longest time of the test to complete.
I've downloaded Lion several times, and it usually takes 3.5 to 4 hours. If your internet connection wasn't a fast one, although stable, it could take longer.
Everything you've described sounds like a failing hard drive. When you initialized it, did you do a security write of zero's to the hard drive? That also resets the bad sector table, and can help get a bit more life out of a failing drive. If not, boot up on the Leopard disk, bring up Disk Utility, and erase the hard drive, clicking on secruity options, and write zero's to the hard drive. This takes ahwile so let it complete. Then reinstall the operating system.
When you get the system going again, I would download SMART Utility to get a better readout on your hard drive's health. The hard drive can be failing before it trips what Disk Utility reports for the one SMART status.

  • HINGES BROKEN ON HP LAPTOP HELP PLEASE

Hi all, The hinges on my HP laptop have broken after 2 and a half years of use. Now I'm stuck with this laptop and am a student for another 2 years since I can't afford to buy another laptop yet. My previous TOSHIBA laptop had very thick and undeniably 'invinsible' hinges and structure and I switched to an HP laptop to keep that same luxury with faster speed and performance. However, I already had to bear with the 70 degrees celcius average CPU warm up time because it overheats almost always and not to mention that my graphics card (Radeon) isn't even detected. My screen is messed up and I have no idea what to do, I really need help. I think you guys at HP would help me but I'm just freaking out because school begins again in another month and I have to take my laptop there everyday for programming classes and clubs.  This breaking had nothing to do with me because I treated the laptop as it were fragile in order to prevent damages and things like that. There have been 30 pages of posts relating to these weak breaking hinges, 10 pages for overheating and forums on other sites for the Radeon problem. Please help me HP as I know you get your customers satisfied.  Thank you, Shehryar

If it is the AMD processor version of the dv6000 the odds you need a new motherboard are very, very good. Do you have wireless issues? Do you get funny lines on the screen? On the other hand, if it is just generally slow there could be a million reasons for that, most of which are software and would be cured with a fresh load of Windows. Do a factory reimage if you can, to help rule out software as the problem.

  • Forgot admin password on MacBook Snow Leopard, Install disc is stuck

Can someone please help - I reset my password to my computer (have no idea why), and I must have hit a wrong key in doing so.
Now, I cannot log in - I installed the Original disc from Apple, and now it is stuck in the laptop.
When I open the computer, the screen I see is the log in box, with my name, but I do not know what key I
mis-typed in the password. Have tried all variations, no luck.
Thank you, SO much, in advance for help.

Are you using a retail 10.6 disk that looks like this?
and not the gray install disks that look like this? The Gray Disks are machine specific and only have the drivers for the Mac that they shipped with.

  • Battery is stuck...

ok i have a dv6 6163cl and its running windows 7 home premium.
the battery is sort of stuck in my laptop and i cant get it out. the battery removal latch is stuck and i feel like if i put any more power on it to move it then it feels like its going to break.  i have never taken out my battery since the first day i put it in.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The battery ususally should not be struck onto the notebook that hard. Make sure you are trying to push either 1 or 2 latches that are holding the battery down. Are you not able to move the latch ahead at all? I hope since the unit is in warranty, you can risk pushing the latch in the right direction to remove the battery out.
