CD stuck in my superdrive

I was importing songs into iTunes and all was fine. Then I put in one last CD and it doesn't register. I can't eject it for the life of me. I called apple support a long time ago when My buddy rammed a cd in the drive, the tech guy walked me through a long process in getting it out. This time I didn't ram it in, I just let it pull the cd like I always do. Does anyone know how to get the cd to eject? Thanks.

Hi, Imran. Try Wulong's suggestion. If it doesn't work for you, the process of removing the drive, taking its cover off, and removing the disk manually is not very difficult and would enable you to see whether the jam has been caused by one of several self-adhesive fabric strips near the front opening of the drive. These strips (there are three in a Combo drive; I'm not sure about a Superdrive) cushion the disk on its way into and out of the drive, and keep it from being scratched by several screw heads it must pass over. Sometimes one of the strips comes loose and sticks to a disk, preventing it from spinning or being ejected properly. This can, but doesn't always, break the drive. At least one user who experienced the problem found that his drive continued to work fine and didn't scratch his disks after he cleared the jam, even though he didn't replace the fabric cushion. If you find that this is your problem, your ultimate outcome may or may not be as satisfactory.
Note: once the strip has come loose the first time, I don't recommend putting it back in place. It would probably just come loose again, sooner rather than later.

so i didn't use the superdrive so far and now start up takes a lot of time to recognize the disk but it can't.
can i do sth to tell the imac not to take action for cheking the super drive ?

Your post is extremely difficult to undertand but it sound like you  have 2 discs stuck in the superdrive , therefore you need to take the machine in for repair.

  • Mac mini stuck booting from Superdrive

I have a PowerPC Mac mini and a wired Apple keyboard.
I was testing a Linux LiveCD the other day and chose to boot up from the Superdrive through the System Preferences Pane.  The LiveCD worked, but then when I tried to restart and use the keyboard command to choose to boot from the OS on the internal HD, I realized that my keyboard isn't responsive during the startup procedure.  Therefore, I can't reset the pram either, which is what I imagine would be the easiest way to solve the problem.
Unfortunately I don't know anyway to change the boot method from the Linux end either.
I have various install and utility CD's from several generations of Macs, but the mini will not use any of them to boot.  I have the mini installation disc and it does not work.  Would an OS upgrade cause it to not boot from an older version's install disc?  I know the superdive (and RAM, logic board, etc.) is functional because I can run Linux of a LiveCD.
Unfortunately I can not find any old keyboards to use at the moment, so I can't immediately test whether or not a different keyboard would be recognized.  When I looked up this problem, some people said it did and others said it didn't.
The error I'm receiving without a LiveCD in is "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key."
    Any ideas?

Try starting up holding the mouse button.

  • How do I eject a disk that is stuck in the superdrive?

I have tried all the options I know, eject button on keyboard, eject icon, even restarting and holding the mouse button. It tries to eject but doesn't. It makes eject noises, but just goes back on the drive and starts playing again. I have been playing many discs lately with little problem - occasionally it would seem to get "confused" during eject and lose the disc - not even recognizing it as being present which required the restart-and-mouse-button technique to eject. But this is the first time it's gotten completely stuck in the process of trying to eject while still recognizing the disc's presence, and being able to use the disc as if freshly inserted.
Anyone have any advice? This is a 20" Early-2009 Intel iMac.

  • Cd stuck in superdrive

I have an cd stuck in the superdrive. It gets out only partial but something still got hold of it inside the drive. So I can not force it out. the only solution seems to be to lay the mac flat on it's face (display) and then eject the cd. It comes out that way but it seems to me that this is not a proper way to do it.
Are there any other ways I can try? I do not want the paperclip method and the open firmware trick did not work. The cd is ejected the same way as in the finder: stuck.
I do not have this with all cd's. The mac display has been replaced could this replacement lead to the odd behaviour? I never had the problem before.

My wife had the "stuck-in-the-superdrive" problem and we solved it by holding the iMac screen down and ejecting. It seems that there is an alignment problem between the drive door and the very narrow slot cut in the side of the iMac. It sounded like the escaping CD was hitting something on it's way out and could not clear the door. We tried Apple Support and were told that they could not help us unless we purchased "Apple Care" support, so we were in the process of opening the case when we decided to try different positions.
I noticed that Apple used a rubber flap with a slit cut in it to line the opening, maybe the plastic disk hits the rubber and cannot push hard enough to "slide" the plastic into the slit.
    Just a thought!

  • CD stuck inside MacBook Air superdrive

How can I eject a CD stuck in the superdrive?

    Hi,
Normally, I'd press and hold the eject button until the eject symbol appears on the screen.
    Cheers.

  • Superdrive not working on brand new imac

Bought my imac 27 inch two months ago and the superdrive won't play dvds and barely read cds.  I just updated the memory would that have anything to do with that?  I doubt it.  I have only used the drive a handful of times.  So I can't figure it out.

I bought a new 27 inch iMac last week and the SuperDrive was bad, wouldn't burn DVDs. I returned it yesterday for a new one. Today a cd got stuck in the SuperDrive so back I went with the second new one. Two new lemons in one week. Needless to say I asked for a refund. Apple had their chance. Never again!

was it a mini disk?  If so thats a problem.
    disconnect superdrive and reconnect it.
drag disk to the trash if on desktop.
    or
leave the drive plugged in and restart the computer. As it boots up, hold the eject key down.

  • External Superdrive on my MBA

    Good afternoon to all,
I have a MBA (2011). I tried to use the external Superdrive a few times with limited succes, but now it is really getting on my nerves!
What happens: it appears that the computer doesn't "see" the superdrive/disk in it for more than a few seconds. If you try to rip a music CD, it offers to do so in iTunes, and then loses it. Finds it again, offers to rip, then gives you an error message. After a few attempts, plugging the superdrive in the other UBS port doesn't change anything, the computer doesn't "see" it anymore.
I have to quit my session, come back and then eject the CD immediately if I wont to get it out. EDIT: not even working after a full start-up, now the CD is stuck in the superdrive!
I am not even telling you about moving a large file or burning a CD, never got to that point!
    Help! Thamks,
    Marc

There's obviously something wrong with the drive or your computer. Take both to an Apple store or authorized repair shop.

  • Disable Superdrive Imac

I have a CD stuck in my Superdrive and have tried everything to get it out, I think its a hardware failure. It tries to read the disk 4 or 5 times, then tries to eject but gets so far then ***** it back in. Until I have time to look at this properly, is there a way to disable the Superdrive so it doesn't keep trying to read the disk and eject it, its driving me insane!
    Thanks

  • My MBP is stuck in Guest User mode and the taskbar is unresponsive. None of the keyboard shortcuts are working either. What do I do?

After an automatic update last night that updated my recent Lion to 10.7.2 w iCloud a new guest user account appeared at the login screen. The login screen wasn't responding so I clicked on both user accounts. As luck would have it the guest account logged in and now Im stuck there at the safari window that won't load. It's just stuck at a guest login information screen. It isn't even connecting to the internet. The mouse moves but it won't click on anything. And despite restarting the comp a few times it opens up back at the same screen. I think that's Lions built in autorecovery mechanism that won't let it go back to the beginning. I've already tried rebooting holding command-r. that isnt working either.
    Any suggestions?

i have a dvd stuck in my superdrive, so in an attempt to get it out, I tried clicking on the guest account listed at startup. now i have an additional problem, i can't logout of the guest account.  i can only get access to my profile by safe booting (holding shift on booting).  if i boot normally, it automatically goes back into the guest account, which has no accessibility.  i can't even use the "shut down" or "restart" options.
    HELP!

  • DVD stuck in machine

Just bought a Mac b/c everyone told us how great they are. All we have had is problems with the DVD player. I know there are other threads about this, but none of the solutions seem to work.
1.The DVD player does not come up and does not recognise that a DVD is in the machine.
    2. Disc utility is useless b/c the DVD disc does not register as an open drive
    3. Restarted held mouse down does not work
    4. Shut down and held mouse button down does not work.
5 Hit eject button numerous times
6 Intel based so the method they suggest in the help question does not work
7 Disk drive is slot on side of screen, no manual eject button.
    8. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED!!!
Any new suggestions short of taking it back to Apple and getting a PC will be gratefully welcomed.

This is the third flaw in my new Intel iMac two of which I have reported earlier:
    1) The CD:s and DVD:s are stuck in the superdrive due to warping. My iMac Super drive runs so hot that CD:s and DVD:s which have a full disk label taped on them will warp due to different heat expansion of paper and plastic. I have a number of disks of this kind from an American university and I cannot use them in my iMac. They are stuck inside the superdrive within a few minutes. The same disks work fine in my old PowerTowerPro OS9 machine or in any other machine with a cool superdrive.
So far I have the following options to fix the problem:
1a) Make copies of the disks somewhere without paper labels. Big task. Disks with no paper label on them work fine on my iMac.
1b) Buy a new La Cie FireWire superdrive, 105 euros.
1c) Increase the cooling of the existing superdrive. Does anyone know if there is a terminal command to increase the speed of the fans?
1d) Try to remove the paper labels from the disks. My first attempt failed. I washed a disk with hot water to get the label soft to scrape it away. The disk did not warp any more in the iMac superdrive but some of the data was lost (not all).
    Any better solutions?
    The two earlier problems were:
    2) The Apple keyboard produced multiple characters on the screen with one key stroke. This happened especially with the left hand keys like a and s. Replacing the keyboard with another Apple keyboard did not help. A Logitech keyboard did not produce multiple characters (and would help) but I finally found another solution with the help of FiMug-people: I set the "Slow Keys ON" in the system preferences and adjusted the smallest possible delay to prevent multiple characters appearing. This is not a good solution but will do. If Logitech keyboard works OK there must be a design flaw in the Apple keyboard.
    3) My iMac started to kernel panic when in sleep (did not wake up from sleep). I tried several remedies given on these forums but none did help. I finally found a simple solution: I adjusted the Energy saver to Apple defaults: Both the display and the iMac to go to sleep if unused for 10 minutes. (Previously I had 10 minutes for the display and 15 min for the computer).

  • Got stuck at boot. Need help.

    Guys, I need your help.
I have created a Bootcamp partition and wanted to install windows. I guess the disk is corrupted so when the computer restarted I got stuck with a black window, the iMac will not boot from the DVD. The problem is that I cannot switch back to my Leopard partition and the DVD is stuck into the superdrive (I cannot eject it). If I restart the computer it eventually goes to the same black screen. What can I do? I have a Logitech keyboard so the "Option" button is not recognized at startup to switch to Leopard. Any idea?
    Thanks.

  • Pioneer DVR-104 won't recognize/burn/eject disc. I am STUCK. Help?

    Hello.
I bought an iMac G4 800mhz flat panel model with DVR-104 superdrive recently.
It's was working perfectly until I tired to burn my 1st disc using Toast 7 (DVD-R). That's when things started messing up. I stuck the disc in and after "thinking" about it for a minute ejected it without any message -- it just spit it out.
I repaired file permissions, restarted, tried another disc and now I can't get the disc out. When i push the eject button i get the eject icon on the screen but the disc doesn't come out.
-Under Disc Burning in System Profiler it now says "No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly".
-Toast 7 says "no recorder found".
-When I restart the computer I get the message "Disk Insertion - the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer". Until I tried to burn a disc the drive had been working perfectly and a lot.
So to recap: There's a disc stuck in the Superdrive that my iMac doesn't think is there. Can I force eject?
    Any ideas??
    Thanks!!
Oh BTW here's what is says under System Profiler about the Pioneer DVR-104:
    Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
    Revision: A216
    Serial Number: BCDL160039WL
    Removable Media: No
    Detachable Drive: No
    BSD Name: disk1
    Protocol: ATAPI
    Unit Number: 1
    Socket Type: Internal
    OS9 Drivers: No
    S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported

mrtotes thanks a lot for the suggestions! I didn't have to try the Target mode but I'll remember that one thanks.
With blank 8X DVD-R still stuck in iMac I ran Onyx (with everything in the Automation area checked√) and went to bed.
This morning I forgot it was in sleep mode & not turned off so I hit the power button to turn it on. It woke up, but the screen was frozen. I turned it off using the power button.
When I turned it back on the DVD in the drive started making that "clunk clunk" noise again trying to load (it had not been making any noises at all while stuck) while the computer was booting up. I held down the eject key & the mouse until it finished booting up. THE DISC CAME OUT. Whew!
I don't know if it was Onyx or me pushing the power button when it was asleep or that mouse/eject maneuver but it worked.
I guess I'll need to stick to 4X DVD-R for now if I can find any. Does anyone know where to get those now? I'm in Sacramento, CA.
Also, I have some Memorex 52X blank CDs. Do I dare try one of those or what speed should I use?
    Thanks!!

  • Mac Mini cd stuck in drive

I've had aMac Mini for less than a week and I've got an audio cd stuck in the superdrive. When I first inserted it, the mac spat it out, and I had to re-inserted it. It's now well and truly stuck. I've checked out the excellent forums here, and elsewhere, and tried all of the methods I could find, including terminal commands.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1750.html
None of these work. It sounds like the drive is continually trying to search for the disc. On re-boot the (audio) CD is briefly identified, but disappears when I try to eject. In the disk utility program the eject button is 'greyed-out'. It seems that the computer doesn't think there is a disc present, I know there is (Snow Patrol - Final Straw).
    thanks,
    Chris

Stuck discs, along with loading and unloading problems are an inevitable risk when using the sort of slot-loading drives found on the mini, iMacs and Mac laptops, but given the sheer number of these systems out there, it's not really a greatly common problem.
The business card twisted to stop the disc spinning is a good trick for those situations where the Mac doesn't recognise the disc because it forces the system into an eject, but in a situation where the disc is stuck in the drive due to fouling the casing, it doesn't help of course - hence the advice to try and guide the disc out. It must be said that sometimes the only solution is to remove the casing!
In the past, this issue has most commonly been caused by discs which are slightly thicker than standard, or a casing that has not been correctly refitted after opening the system up for something like a RAM upgrade.
