CD tray pops out unexpectedly

A funny new glitch with the eMac this week. The CD tray keeps popping out at unexpected times such as start up, switching desktops, and even completely randomly. I push it in and sometimes within a minute, out it comes again.
Any ideas or suggestions?

is there a way to check online if the computer is still under warranty?
Go to this page:
http://www.apple.com/support/
Toward the bottom at the right is a box where you can enter the serial number. The purchase date and warranty information will appear.
At least one person has reported limited success at keeping the CD tray from popping open by resetting the PMU. This worked for a bit, but then the problem showed up again.

  • Tab click unexpectedly pops out to new window

    When I click on a tab, every so often (maybe 2-3 times a session), it will unexpectedly pop out to a new window. This occurrence is not like the purposeful downward click to immediately open a new window with the tab, but it is very delayed. In fact when this happens, my mouse pointer instantly jumps to the bottom right of the screen and if I don't move the mouse, the window doesn't open. But, after I move my mouse for a second or two, the tab pops out to the new window. Seems really strange, and can't find an answer anywhere.

  • DVD keeps popping out.  How do I get it to play???

    DVD keeps popping out.  How do I get it to play??

    There's nothing else you need to do. Do other DVDs play in your Mac? Hate to say but your SuperDrive may have failed. Try resetting the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 and PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    After that you can try a cleaning disc but that usually doesn't help. If your drive has failed you'll have to decide if it's worth replacing the internal with another unreliable slot loading drive or if you should purchase an external unit. If you decide to go the external route I'd recommend a tray loader...and don't buy the Apple USB SuperDrive as it will not work with macs that have a built in drive wether it works or not.

  • DVD will not POP OUT ?

    hi Buckie,
    I've seen some issues like these on laptops but not recently on the IdeaCentre B540 (your issue might be similar to this thread though).
    Can you try to:
    1. Press WinKey+E to open Windows Explorer. On the left pane, check if you can see the CD/DVD drive then do a right click > eject to open the CD/DVD tray.
    2. If same problem, use a paperclip to force eject the DVD tray

    3. Open Device Manager (press Winkey+R > type devmgmt.msc) and verify that the CD/DVD drive have no errors (exclamation or question mark right next to it). If this is ok, verify that you see the CD/DVD drive when you open Windows Explorer (see Step 1). If it's not visible, apply this microsoft fix.
    Hope this helps

  • How to display System Tray Pop up in MAC OS?

    Hi all,
    I need a simple solution for MAC application...
    I want to display a System Tray Pop up on some event
    Can anybody help me out in this?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    yet it works fine, see following code fragment
    public class Main {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            try {
                if (SystemTray.isSupported()) {
                    TrayIcon trayIcon = new TrayIcon(Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("duke.gif"));
                    SystemTray.getSystemTray().add(trayIcon);
                    trayIcon.displayMessage("Look!", "I've got some news for you", TrayIcon.MessageType.INFO);
                } else {
                    throw new RuntimeException("SystemTray not supported");
            } catch (AWTException e) {
                e.printStackTrace();

  • G4 CD tray spitting out at startup

    Every time I start up my G4 the superdrive cd tray spits out and I have to push it back in or press the button to get it to retract. This seems like a startup command but I can't find such a command anywhere in the system preferences. I'm not aware of any software that launches at startup that would cause the tray to pop out. Where would I look for this on the machine so that I can make it stop?
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hi, Marcus -
    There is a hardware command that can do that. At startup, if the mouse button is held down it instructs the Mac to eject all removable media; this instruction is invoked before any software is loaded.
    Sometimes an attached USB device can (in some manner) generate a signal that the Mac interprets as being a mouse-down event. Devices that have been specifically linked to this behavior are an iMate adapter, a digitizing tablet, and a dongle, although any attached USB device can be the cause.
    Disconnecting all attached USB devices (except keyboard and mouse) and then reattaching them one at a time and testing can often reveal the culprit.
    Sometimes inserting a self-powered hub between the offending device and the Mac can filter out the signal. When this does not work, or is not possible (such as with many dongles), then living with the problem may be the only thing to do.

  • Can I turn off mu iCloud without losing all my documents on my iMac?My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. HELP.

    Can I turn off, or remove myself my iCloud account, without losing all my documents on my iMac? My iCloud window popped up unexpectedly, and am worried about a hacker. When I try and sign out of iCloud, The iCloud window is giving me a message that "If you turn off Documents & Data, all documents stored in iCloud will be removed from this Mac". I have iMac OS X 10.7.5, 2.7ghz, Intel core i5. I don't use my iCloud service, and I somehow my iPhone linked it to my computer by mistake. I don't want the service or need it, & don't want my info in cyberspace. I don't want to lose my documents on my hard drive, and it appears that I haven't used any data in iCloud, as 5GB of 5GB is available. HELP.

    I would love to hear that Apple has remedied this problem. From other discussion strings that I am following related to this issue, it seems thus far we remain out of luck. I did discover that if I log onto iCloud.com I can access my files that way.  Still, what a pain.
    When I got the message re iCloud Drive as I was setting up my phone after the update to iOS8, it said I wouldn't be able to access my files unless all of my devices were running iOS8 OR Yosemite. That message was misleading as it really should have said all devices need to be running iOS8 AND your mac needs to be running Yosemite, as it was not an "either or" situation.  So frustrating...

  • HT1338 i have apps to be updated but when i try to update them a message pops out saying "You have updates for other accounts, please sigh in with the other id". Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created.

    i have apps to be updated but when i try to update them a message pops out saying "You have updates for other accounts, please sigh in with the other id". Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created. As i dont have the access to the earlier id anymore.

    You cannot. The apps are assigned to that Apple ID and there is nothing you can do to change that. You could choose to download them again with the new Apple ID, any paid apps will need to be purchased again.
    Hope that helps.

  • Is there a way to create a pop-out forum or blog without redirecting pages?

    I already have a website developed with a lot of content on the mainpage. Now I want to create a forum or blog for it for people to ask questions and what not, but I do not want it to redirect them to another page. I don't have a lot of room to work with so I was curious if there could be a sort of pop-out or small side window that can be created that remains part of the original mainpage. Does that make sense?

    You could use a modal window like Fancybox with content inside an iframe.

  • My iphone 5(not S) screen popped out, the whole screen and digitizer, will they replace this if i go to the apple store?

    my iphone 5 screen has been cracked but i recently dropped my phone again and the whole screenpopped out. its still attached by a black cord but now the whole screen is just black and i cant use it at all. will the apple store replace my screen or will i have to get a whole new iphone?

    You may need to buy an entirely new iPhone. Before when the screen was just cracked you could have got an out of warranty replacement for a fee but now the screen has popped out and will most likely be classed as catastrophic damage.
    At the link http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/service/faq/ it says:
    What type of damages are not covered by my warranty?
    Apple's Limited Warranty for iPhone excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, disassembly, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details.
    An iPhone that is ineligible for warranty service may be eligible for Out-of-Warranty (OOW) Service. For example, an iPhone that has failed due to damage or liquid damage is ineligible for warranty service but eligible for OOW service. However, certain damage is ineligible for OOW service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details. Refer to this article to check if the Liquid Contact indicator on your product has been triggered.
    If your iPhone is not eligible for warranty service, you may wish to contact your carrier for other options.
    So all you can do is take it into a Store and they will make the decision.

    Why can I not attach a document to an email? Every time I want to send an email with a document attached to it, an error notice pops out. It tells me that the file is being used even when  iall other programs are closed. How can I fix this issue?

    Thanks Jeff, I was not aware that a template could be multi-page.  (All the existing templates were 1 page)
    But it worked, saving me some steps.  When I was finished I renamed the document, and locked it.
    Then tried to save it but  could not because it was locked.  I closed it, went to my Spread Sheet Folder ,
    to find it, it was not there.  The Finder could not find it either.
    So I start over again.
    I opened up Numbers and it showed my personal Numbers template folder, it contained both my new
    original 4 page template and the vanished saved document!
    I tried to delete the template containing these document data and could not - I had to go to the Library/Application Support/Numbers to physically remove it from this folder. Then I started over again.  I Finally found out how to make it work: I can now "save as", and then lock, and it will go to place where I want it to be saved and locked.
    The secret is: Click on the document title in the menu bar, and it opens up  "Save as...", which works the same as in OS 10.4.11, and you can pick the place you want for saving.  Once done that, you can then lock the document in the same pull down menu, and then close it.
    I also found later that I can delete a template from its folder, by letting Numbers open the templates,
    clicking on the one I want to remove, then go to the "Numbers Menu/File/Move to...", select "Desktop"
    and from there the selected template can then be thrown into the Trash from there.
    It appears now that the real fault of the Numbers software is that the "Save as" command is not available in the "Edit" or "File" pull-down menus, but hidden behind the title of the document.

  • Whenever I plugged in HP laserjet M1132 printer usb to my Macbook air,a screen pop-out "the disk inserted are not readable by this computer".I uninstalled

    Hi,I'm new here and I think my problem were discussed few times before.However,I tried to follow the solutions similiar to my condition but it does not work.My problem is whenever I plugged in the HP printer (Laserjet M1132 MFP) usb to my Macbook Air,a screen will pop-out and read as 'the disk inserted is not readable by this computer'.I even bought my Mac to the Mac store but the situation remains the same.Okay with other printer but not with my HP.Sigh.The HP printer worked just fine with other computers (not Mac).I'm really sick of it.Please help me.I once plugged in an external hard drive & started Time Machine with it.The printer problem started after that.However, the hard drive plug-in works just fine.
    Your attention of above matter is highly appreciated.Thank you.

    Here is what worked for me:
    I reset the System Management Controller on my MBA.  To do so requires shutting it down, keeping it plugged in to power (I also unplugged both USB connections), and then from a powered off state I simultaneously pressed Shift + Ctl + Option + Power (I did this once and it did not work so I tried again and did it 3 times just to be safe), then released them at once, then I pressed the power button.  Problem solved.
    http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/qt/Resetting-The-Smc-System-Management-Con troller-On-Your-Mac.htm
    I also tried uninstalling the using the repair Disk Permissions with Disk Utility and moved the HP Printer software accessories to the trash (you can search the web for how to do that but that did not solve the problem either).  Neither of these options worked.

  • 'Quick Fix' for HP Officejet Pro L7580 Printer & 88XL Yellow Cartridge Popping out problem!

    After reading other forum comments from people having the same problem with the yellow cartridge popping-out, combined with others who have realised that HP have no interest in compensating anyone for this rediculous example of, at best, 'bad design', or at worst 'blatent planned obsolescence', I have created a solution that may add another 1, 2 or more years of life to the HP Officejet Pro L7580 Printer.
    This is not the elegant technical solution I was hoping for.  However, in hindsight, it may prove to be a more reliable solution than replacing the faulty part that is actually causing the problem.  So, here it is the solution ........
    I found a wooden triangular door stop that I cut to size that fitted exactly in the space between the plastic door and the offending yellow cartridge. To hold it in place, I wrapped the doorstop with 2" cellotape, then I stuck the door stop to the inside of the plastic door with double sided cellotape (double sided stick-on foam would also work well). With the doorstop in the correct place, the plastic door closed perfectly and was snug enough to apply sufficent pressure to the offending yellow cartridge, and hence stopping it from popping out again.  To make sure the plastic door does not 'fly open' with the pressure of the yellow cartridge (when it wants to pop out!), I applied another piece of 2" cellotape around the outside of the door, holding it to the body of the photocopier.
    This exercise only took 10-15 mins to do.  I feel this is a much better option than spending another $300+ on a new All-in-One  system, as well as being a good environmental solution.  If this is DELIBERATE 'planned obsolescence', companies like HP need to be more accountable for, at best, 'sloppy design'.  Any feedback would be appreciated.
