CD won't import on new computer

My iTunes Library didn't transfer to my new PC properly (Windows 7) when I used an external hard drive (I lost all my playlists). So I tried home sharing, and the playlists are there, but now I can't import a CD. The songs show up but I don't get an "Import CD" option, dialogue box, button. Nothing. I have a feeling I need to start from scratch. Any suggestions on how to do this cleanly and properly?

Follow the user tips mentioned in these articles and you'll be able to transfer your data:
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive
The "other" section can only be reduced to a normal size by restoring the device, so you should be fine after syncing your device for the first time with your new computer.

My computer crashed and I purchased a new one. I have an external harddrive and was able to pull alot of my stuff off of it. This new computer runs OS X10.8. It won't open my .cwk documents. Can anyone tell me how to get it to open it? Do I need to purchase some program to be able to open my old documents???
Thanks for any help you can provide.

AW should be at version 6.2.9 (it probably is in Tiger).
Just drag WP file onto the Pages icon in the Dock, or a SS file onto the numbers icon. Likewise presentation files onto the Keynote icon.
Or you can right-click on the file and use the "open with" dialogue to choose the relevant application.
    Databases are less easy.
You can export AW DB files as ASCII text files which can then be imported into Numbers. Not ideal, but OK for simple lists.
You can then export them as .csv files which can be imported to most third-party database applications.
{Update; since writing this I've been informed that you can simply change the ASCII extension to .csv and import them directly without the intermediate step.
I don't have a means of checking that as I no longer have Bento (hated it).
    If you decide to try it, make sure you use a duplicate file before trusting your important data to the method}
For drawing and paint files, Intaglio looks OK, but pricey. You may find others with a bit of searching, but that's the only current app I found that claims to open AW draw and paint files (as distinct from MacPaint and MacDraw).

  • Photoshop Elements 11 boxed software installed once in Dec. 2012 won't install on new computer. Disk can't be read (tested on 3 different computers). How is that even possible of a meticulously clean, well-protected disk?

    Dear Adobe,
    I need your help!
On December 12th, 2012 I ordered (purchased) by mail an official copy of the boxed Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 software from B&H Photo (New York, NY). I installed it successfully without any problem on my then computer. I have enjoyed using the program since then, it’s great. This past week, however, that same computer died and I was force to buy a new computer (Windows 8.1).
To my big surprise, the Elements disk wouldn’t load off my DVD drive. The drive just kept “clicking” for 20 minutes.  After trying several times from reboot, for an hour and a half, I then tried installing it on my laptop, just to see if my drive was faulty. No, it wasn’t. It too immediately went into an endless “clicking” routine trying to read the disk. And for one last try, I put it in my sister’s laptop and she got the very same result - endless “clicking”, no install. No computer could read the disk!!!
How is this even possible from a commercially made disk I used only once in 2012! The disk is meticulously clean, unscratched, unscuffed, put away in its original box and stored on my shelf in a cool place away from the sun!
Serial Number of faulty disk:  1057-4186-6029-0039-1511-3940
Is there anything you can do about this as I see no reason why I should be forced to spend over a $130 (in Canada) to replace a disk that worked only once!
    Regards, Andre

  • ITunes rental won't play on new computer

I rented a movie three weeks ago. Last week, I bought a new-to-me (used) computer and transferred all my content to the new machine. I have purchased iTunes Match, and all my books and music and almost everything works. But when I tried to play my rented movie on the new computer, I got a message saying it wasn't authorized to play on this computer. It's the same Apple ID and all my other content works on the new machine.
Brilliant me, I thought I would just delete it and download it again since I haven't watched it. Now it's just gone.
Any ideas? I have another rented movie still in my rentals folder, but it won't play either.
    Christine Kling

Yes, I am getting the exact same message. It says:
Could not play the rental “The Cove” because it is authorized to play on another computer or device.

  • Importing to new computer

I was wondering if anyone on here could offer me some help. My computer crashed a few months back and will be purchasing a new MacBook soon. I have 30 GB IPOD with years of my music on it, from a few different computers, ITunes libraries, etc. In many of the cases of songs on my IPOD, they are either on 2 or 3 different computers or the songs have been deleted after being added to my IPOD. (Long story short, I have been using friend's computers to get music from).
My question, therefore, is whether is possible to transfer the ITunes Library from my actual IPOD directly on to the hard drive of the new computer? I know transferring the actual Library of the ITunes account to a new computer is easy enough. I was wondering if I can transfer directly from my IPOD to a new ITunes Library.
    Thanks in advance!

Connect your iPod to your new computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content only from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay:
Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • IPhone won't sync to new computer w/library from old computer HELP!

Got an iPhone4 for Christmas... already had many, many Gs of music on my PC.  Installed iTunes, purchased some music from iTunes, Amazon, sync'd some to my iPhone.  Backed up *all* my music onto flash drive(s). (PC was +10yrs old).  PC dies.  Get new-to-me computer replacement from my husband's office (some ghosts from previous user still exist). Do my best to locate all previous owners music and delete.  Load all my music from my flash drive onto new-to-me PC.  iTunes can't 'see' my music.  Figure out where library from previous PC owner is, re-direct iTunes from that library to my data.  Go onto iTunes and authorize new-to-me computer using same userid so now all library history info related to that userid should now be linked w/this newer-to-me PC, right?  Purchase more music from iTunes.  Try to sync iPhone to my iTunes account using new-to-me computer, and it wants to erase my iPod and associate it with "this iTunes library."  Crap.  I just want to put 3 newest songs onto my iPhone, which I purchased, fair & square.
1)How do I 'de-authorize' my old PC?  It is no longer alive or bootable.
2)How can I convince iTunes that the library on this newer-to-me PC is the library from my old PC, plus more added while on this newer-to-me PC and the library on my iPhone are really one-and-the-same library all belonging to me fair and square?
3)Is there a way to transfer songs onto my iPhone without iTunes running an inventory on my iPhone to try to automatically add or delete songs that are checked or unchecked?  I don't want my entire library on my iPhone.
4)Will I have to remember to ensure every song that I want to stay on my iPhone are always checked in iTunes before syncing my iPhone to my iTunes, even when I only want to make a couple of changes? (if yes, I'll just skip that step and insert the pins in my eyes now.)
Don't get me wrong, I really LOVE my iPhone, I just really don't love a lot of the built-in 'features' of iTunes as I currently understand things.  I'd be a lot happier if iTunes were a dummer program and totally manual, in the way the older vs of MSWindows Media Player is.  (I cannot beleive I just had to admit that I like a Windows SW product over an Apple one! Deffinitely a sign of the appololypse - hope you're a 'prepper.')
Please help me.  I am so weary of the days and hours I've spent trying to find/read the answers to my questions on my own.  Many thanks.
    Brianne

    Hey Roaming Gnome,
hope you're having a good day!  Thanks so much for the info... although I don't really like the reality of the answers...  The answers were depressing (through no fault of your own-you were just passing on the info I asked for-I get that part and appreciate your help) so I went away to lick my wounds and gain the strength to tackle this project.  So, here's the deal, I did back up all the songs that were on my old PC, both the "My Music" folder and the "iTunes" folder within.  All on flash drive.  That computer died, cannot be resuscitated, drive HD erased/shredded, PC now in pieces... fine, I have my music, what do I care, right? (yeah, I know, wrong)  I loaded all my music onto my new-ish/replacement PC.  Not yet syncing my iPhone... Then, from my new-ish PC, I purchased some music and a few TV shows from iTunes and some music from Amazon (I had gift cards).  Then I purchased more music from the iTunes store using my phone.  Also, before my old PC died, I had downloaded (I thought), an app and some free ringtones using my iPhone.  However, I eventually discovered that they aren't *really* installed/downloaded (only the free app I got off the iTunes store is downloaded/installed). Found this out when I went to try to use a ringtone, couldn't locate them on my phone, and weren't showing up on my PC in my iTunes library... I finally found something on the app that said something about I have to sync my phone to my iTunes library, in some different way... (?)  then download them from my iTunes library back to my phone. (huh?) This didn't make sense to me, so I never did it, because I just didn't have the time to figure it out, then execute it.... at that time.
I also never took the time to set up the free part of my iCloud account because, again I didn't have time to try to figure it out, and didn't think I'd really have to have it I had all my music on my flash drive (wrong again).
    1) So, how can I get my purchases (the ones that exist only on my iPhone, including rights to the free ring-tones) into my iTunes library, and or iCloud, without losing them all?
Once I do this, I can back everything up, then sync my iPhone to my only iTunes library, which I realize will wipe my phone clean, then re-copy everything back onto my iPhone. (I can't wait to start this process... do you think it will be done before Christmas?)
2)Also, will syncing my iPhone to what it thinks is a 'new' library, will it delete anything on my computer that wasn't in the library last time I sync'd my phone to my library?  I really don't want to pay for the TV shows again, or spend the stupid hours I spent/lost searching through and collecting the ringtones that I wanted?  I burned the hours thinking, "if I just spend the time now, I'll never have to do this again."
3)On a slightly separate issue, the iCloud listing on my iPhone in the 'Settings' menu is light gray, and does not respond when I tap on it or hold my finger on it.  Ideas?
    4) In the future, if I get a new computer to replace the one I'm using, what are the steps I should take to keep me from losing music I own, existing in my iTunes library, on my PC and/or iPhone, And, cause me the least amount of heartburn possible when migrating my music world over to a replacement PC?  I don't expect this will be my last PC in life - or I'd like to think I'll outlive this PC. Can I avoid all problems by just naming the new computer the same thing as the last one?  Or does the iPhone/iTunes SW know more than just the name of the computer?  Sorry this is so long.  It would be shorter if iPhone/iTunes SW were dumb... we'd all be enjoying chips & margaritas by now. ;^}

New computer is a Dell Inspiron 620.  Printer is HP 882c.  Although it appears the driver is fine and I can display properties and set up the printer, the power is on, nothing happens when I try to print.  I have worked through various troubleshooters both Dell and HP and the printer was working fine, I don't know what to do next.  My old computer was an XP, this one Windows 7.  Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Windows 7 does a great job using drivers pre installed in Windows to install devices (in this case, the printer)   you stated you have a new computer, i am guessing it is running Windows 7. If this is the case, i would suggest to go to printers and devices and delete the HP printer in question (AFTER you unplug the usb cord)  After that is gone, i would select one of the other printers and go towards the top of the window and you will see "Printer server" click that and click on the driver tab and delete any HP Driver listed for this product.   Once those are removed, i would plug the printer back into usb cord and see if it installs...

  • Music won't sync to new computer after failed hard drive

My hard drive failed catastrophically. It was a managed computer with a school district. They gave me a new computer. I authorized the new computer for iTunes. I can't sync my music from the iphone. I can see it, but the titles are grey. I am a music teacher and need the music in the computer.

I don't believe that is possible without downloading some 3rd party app, which Apple strictly forbids. I have done it, but not with iTunes. Search google, that may be of more help to you.

well i recently got a new computer and decided to move all the songs form the old computer over so i did. now i need to update my ipod and for some reason when the ipod is connected it seems to work .. but then the problem comes it says updating ipod do not disconnect and about 5 second later its already done updating except the ipod did not get updated and still has the old songs i had on it.. can anyone tell me how i can solve this problem? thanks

Try moving all of your files out of the main folder they're in... then dragging them into the iTunes library in iTunes itself.
Then when its done processing them all, try updating again.
they have to be in the library and (prolly) CHECKED for iTunes to sync them.

I just moved over to a new computer. Now when I try to synch my iPod with iTunes I get the following message "Attempting to copy to the disk "XXX iPod" failed. The disk is locked and cannot be written to." Is this because the iPod is not recognizing the new computer as its "home computer?" Do I need to restore the factory settings in order for the iPod to recognize the new computer as its "home computer?" Will this then allow the iPod to automatically synch again every time I connect the iPod? Any help would really be appreciated!
