.cda file?!

Hi Everyone...
So my boss sends me a file of SMPTE time code encoded as a .cda file. Anyone know of a good converter (preferably free) that will convert this to .mp3, .wav, .aiff, anything usable...?
Thanks

http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/cda
A .CDA shortcut file is a small file generated by Microsoft Windows for each track on an audio CD. The file contains indexing information and are named in the form TRACK##.CDA. The files contain no audio and are basically useless when a CD is ripped to a computer's hard drive or converted to MP3 and written out as files to a CD. Some software makes it appear the files contain audio as recorded material starts when a .CDA file is clicked on but that's just the software operating and not music in the .CDA file.
Ask him to send you the data as a CD, or have him convert the audio data to some generally recognizable format such as WAV or AIFF.

  • Problem playing Audio CD (.cda files) on Windows Vista

    Hey,
I am having problems playing an Audio CD. On XP everything is working fine. On Vista, the files seem to be playing, but I am not getting any sound (playing .wav files for example is also no problem, it's just the cda files from an audio cd).
This problem does not only occur in my own code, also the JMStudio application produces no sound playing tracks from the cd.
Is there anything that needs to be configured in Vista in order to make that work?
    Thanks a lot,
    sirpreis

I should point out there's no such thing as playing a CDA file. CDA files are simply indexing information about where to find the actual track data on the disk.
My best guess is that Vista's sandbox won't let Java go and fetch the actual audio tracks from the CD, because it's more restrictive than Vistas.
Other good guesses would including that whatever native code JMF uses to fetch CD audio works in XP but it doesn't work in Vista. That would certainly make sense...
If JMStudio doesn't work, your code probably wont ever work either. Sorry :-/

  • Push/DataSource question about .cda files

    Hi,
I'm trying to programm a program and with it it should be possible to rip .cda files to .wav files.
Now I found a way how to do this, but I'm not sure, if my idea works well.
    My idea:
In Windows it is possible to play .cda files with JMF.
I read, that a cda file is only a pointer to a location on the CD and at this location there is stored a file which is quiet the same as a .wav file.
But what is, when I create a PushDataSource (or something else, I don't know) and get the source-stream, read the bytes and save this to a .wav file.
Is this a way to rip .cda files?
    Thanks for answers, thomas

    Are you talking about this?
This is optional. You don't need to use this at all. It's just to verify that the account details you have entered are valid (ie test connection).
Note that your client push installation account has to be local administrator on all devices on which you want to install a client.

  • Audition 3.01 will not open .cda files from audio cd Win 7 Home 64 bit

I installed Adobe Audition 3 on my new laptop...installed the 3.01 patch, everything seems to work fine, but extracting audio from cd's and opening cda files from audio cd's...my previous laptop was win 7 pro 32 bit and had no problems with this...this laptop is win 7 home 64 bit. I am able to import the cda tracks as wav files via itunes, but shouldn't have to do this...help. I can see the files in the open file list, but when I select one it says raw PCM or Unsupported format...

I just checked and I can open a CD track for editing in Audition 3.01 Win 7 64-bit Professional at File>Extract Audio From CD.  Not sure why it isn't working for you.
But there are several threads on this issue in the archives, which you can read by inserting "cda file" without the quotes in Search Forums (note that there are two Search windows on the forum pages, and you want the one that's labeled "Search Forums").
Here's one good thread on it, for example:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1191507#1191507
I know you want this to work in Audition, and it should, but if you want a quick workaround, rather than iTunes, I'd try downloading and using the freeware program Exact Audio Copy (available now in version 0.99 beta 05) to rip a WAV and open that in Audition.

  • ITunes will not copy some new cd's cda files?????

My iTunes will transfer some cda files from a new CD. ANy clues on possible causes ????

The .cda files are just tiny (44 byte) index files that are used on an audio CD.  They are not the music, although it is a peculiarity of Windows that if you use its file system to look at an audio CD, all you see are the CDA files!
If you are trying to rip/import the songs into your iTunes library, you can use iTunes.  Look in iTunes Help at the article "Import songs from CDs."

  • How do I convert  soundbooth .wav to .cda files?

I have tried to convert soundbooths .wav file to .cda file format using Nero software, but it says I am missing a required plugin to do this.
Does anyone know what plugin this may be?
I am using soundbooth 1.0 and Nero 8.
Does soundbooth add something to there .wav format?

.wav must be 44.1K sample rate 16 bit stereo in order to burn to CD.

  • Convert CDA files using  Adobe Soundbooth

In the help file for Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, under "Importing digital audio", it states:
"You can use CD audio (CDA) files in a project, but before you can import them into Adobe Premiere Pro, you need to convert them to a supported file format, such as WAV. You can convert CDA files using an audio application such as Adobe Soundbooth"
Ok, I have Adobe Soundbooth, but I can't find out any information for how to perform this import. It is a common need that most people have to be able to import music or audio from a CD. Can anyone provide the method of performing this action using Adobe Soundbooth?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • How can i convert a .cda file to an mp3 file

how can i convert a .cda file to an mp3 file

Actually, CDA only represents a shortcut of audio track. In reality, it does not have any music file in it. That's the reason why you cannot play the files without the original CD in your computer drive. To solve this problem, you'd better convert your CDA files to the most common mp3 format. To know more about how to do that, you can refer to this article, hope it helps!

  • I can't import cda files into itunes from a disc

I have a disc of 7 audio tracks that were recorded on a Mac and burned onto a CD using itunes. I was given this disc but I can only get the audio files to play on a PC. I have tried all methods of importing/copying into iTunes but it doesn't work - iTunes can't see the files. Please can you help?

No mp3 files from any source, including iTunes itself, or just some particular batch of mp3s files from some unspecified source?  It isn't unusual for some encoders to produce mp3s that are not compliant with iTunes.  You can try using the application MP3 Scan+Repair (http://triq.net/mac/mp3-validator-mac-os-x) to fix them but sometimes you have to re-encode them.  Try playing with Quicktime Player instead and report if it will play the files.
Oh, it also isn't unusual that files do not have labels built in.  They are adding to iTunes but not ending up where you expect them to be.

  • Burning a cd...it's a cda file and won't play on a stereo

    Hello
I'm currently trially adobe audition 3.0 with a view to purchasing the programme if this trail run shows the software does what I need it to do.
I am trying to burn a mixdown track which ends in the extesion .wav
However when I burn this track onto a cd, the extension changes to .cda and while this track now playsback on my pc it will not play on my stereo which is what I need it to do.
    Any advice?

Neither am I - you don't get that option on a disk-at-once system, which the Audition one is.
The CDA extension is correct, but there's a good chance that one or more of several other things may have happened. The most likely, since this CD appears to play on your PC, is that the CD player you are playing it on doesn't like low-reflectivity CD-Rs - that's extremely common, even amongst ones that claim that they do. The second thing is simply that you burned it too fast - and that's something that unfortunately it's rather easy to do in Audition. The third common problem is that you are using cheap blanks with even lower reflectivity than normal CD-Rs - that's never good news.
So - get some decent, relatively new blanks of a recognisable brand, use the slowest burn speed you can, and try again. And try it in a few different players as well. Chances are that this is all that's wrong - and you will have this sort of problem to deal with whatever software you use.

  • Convert cda music file to mp3?

Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks!!

Just exactly how did you create this file? AFAIK Matt is right: the cda file is not an actual music file, but rather a file on a CD that instructs the player on using the CD. See this:
    http://www.coolutils.com/Formats/CDA
On a Mac you would put the CD in in the drive and then tell iTunes to import the track.

Can I import .cda audio file in iTunes on my Macbook Pro with OS X Yosemite

    iNads,
.CDA files are simple index files, less than 1 kB in size, that do not contain any audio.  There is no reason to import them.
If you have the physical CD and wish to rip it into iTunes, you can import it per this guide:  iTunes 12 for Mac: Import songs from CDs
