CDE ~ GNOME & Device Cong. Assist probs

CDE:
I have a Intel box running Solaoris 8 (6/01), setup with PPP to the Internet
& ODS
I've been investigating why it can't see other clients on the LAN &, why lo0
does't appear in /dev
, yet i can assign a ip (C'est Bizzare), hence i would like to use "ndd" to
set the change the link speed
So...thinking there may be a problem with my setup, things start 2 go wrong
upon a reboot of
"touch /reconfure"
CDE becomes very very slow, & unusable in mult-user mode ~ ok in safe mode\
single-user.
It seems that a process is taking a memory leak, however there are a lot of
kernal messages\geunix
messages ~ rather information rather than errors
After removiing & re-installing the key 4 CDE packages (SUNWdt*) nothing's
changed ; i even
backed up /usr/dt/app-config & /usr/dt/config
my hostname is allways after localhost & loghost to 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts
i've disbaled snmp
any suggestions before i rebuild ?
Mainly, what coomads to use to determine how much memory is taken by a
process would be a good start
or, how to get back to the defaults of CDE deamons if that's a cause
..or really how to investigate this prblem effectively
Remove CDE & Installed GNOME 1.4 from Solaris Companion
.trying to start it from
/opt/sfw/gnome/bin/gnome-wm gives....
"No Window Manager can be found"
...yet Enlightement is installed, are is it referring to Xterm, which does't apear to be.....where is the config file for me to point gnome to the correct paths ?
Suddenley Device Config Assist is automatically starting,
...does anyone know how to disable it ?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

  • SB Audigy 2 Value - Device In Use Prob

I have a home built PC. I have Windows XP PRO SP2. I have installed SB Audigy 2 Vlue successfully. I know it did because I can play the DVD Audio disk they included in the package. I hear sound/music from all speakers. When I try to play something from Windows Media Player 0, system sounds, AOL sounds, a store bought CD or a store bought DVD I get Device in Use message. I know I have it installed correctly from the the CD/DVD player because of the DVD Audio disk. I changed from SB Li've to this new one and can't figure it out. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Mpaxtoniii,
When you go into Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices what is listed as the default playback device? Also you may want to run the program DXdiag and run a sound test to see if everything passes. To run DXdiag go to start/run and type in DXdiag and then click ok.

  • Integrate StarOffice 8 into CDE/GNOME on network install

With StarOffice 7 you could install the software on a server and then
make it available to all clinets by running this on the workstations:
    % /usr/dt/bin/dtappintegrate -s /opt/staroffice7
StarOffice 8.0 does not come with this feature and the install now install
a lot of files on the root disk (/etc, /bin, /usr/dt, /usr/jdk) where before they were links to the /opt/staroffice7.
How can I get the software to work on solaris clients without installing the
    400MB on all or boxes?
    Thanks
    Andrew

Ploblem solved and Thanks to all!
After a service call, Sun have have updated there docs.sun.com and I think there is now a README file in the download (I have not checked that).
They are very similar either to my workround. Here are the instruction which Sun now offer!
    <README>
Installing StarOffice 8 on a Linux File Server
If you install StarOffice on a Linux file server, you need to perform the following steps to install the StarOffice menu integration package on a client.
Note: You need the RPM package manager to install this package.
    - On the client, open a terminal, and become root.
    - Type "rpm -ivh staroffice-Linux_distribution_name-menus-8.0.0-xx.noarch.rpm ". You can find the menu integration package for your Linux distribution in the rpm directory of the StarOffice installation directory.
    - Modify the staroffice8 symbolic link in the /etc directory so that the link points to the StarOffice installation on the file server. For example, if you mount the file server as /mnt/nfs, type "ln -sf/mnt/nfs/staroffice8 staroffice8".
    </README>
The instructions for Solaris could look quite similar:
    # pkgadd -d . SUNWstaroffice-desktop-integratn
    # pkgadd -d . SUNWstaroffice-shared-mime-info
    But DO NOT install SUNWstaroffice-desktop-int-root.
Create a symbolic link named staroffice8 in the /etc directory so that the link points to the StarOffice installation on the file server. For example, if you mount the file server as /mnt/nfs, type:
    # cd /etc
    # ln -sf /mnt/nfs/staroffice8 staroffice8
The only thing beside the link in /etc contained in the SUNWstaroffice-desktop-int-root package are scripts to modify /etc/mailcap and /etc/mime.type, which enterprise customers might not want to be modified automatically.
The SUNWstaroffice-gnome-integration package installs its files into /opt/staroffice8 and not into /usr. Thus it does not fit into the same category as the other packages.
    Have fun

  • Created an Adobe PDF form via LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2, used the New Form Assistant, prob w/ email

I created a form to be distributed, filled in and emailed back to me for my company.
It has been working fine, but now I need to change the email address where it will be sent when the user clicks the "Submit Form" button. How?
All I need to do is change this email address, everything else is set.
    Please help.
    Thanks

My experience is that re-running the Distribute Form does not allow you to change the options you get on first run.
To correct this you need open the PDF in Acrobat Pro and go to Edit > Preferences and select the identity category.  The email address can be changed there.
Further, when I ran Distribute Form, it made some other changes to the PDF too, because the Email submit button in my form does not work any longer in Adobe Reader.  Clicking it simply prompts to save a local copy of the PDF. The submit still works in Acrobat Pro, but this is useless for a distributed form.
It seems odd that Distribute form make changes to a form which seemingly cannot be undone or further require the use of another product to change.

That compiler warning is probably benign (harmless).  The function appears to change the working directory and then return a void pointer.  The pointer is not used because, apparently, in this case it is not needed.

  • Can't open boot device??? On sparc 7

    Hi
I'm new to Solaris, please be patient.
I got a ultra 1 machine and tried to upgrade the hard drive. I installed an IBM 4.55 GB sca drive. When I boot this message comes up.
Boot device /sbus/espdma/csp/sd@0,0:a File and args: -F cprbooter cprboot
Bad magic number in disk label
    Can't open disk label package
    Can't open boot device
I did probe-scsi command it says
    Unit 0 Disk TANDEM 4512-2 2626
Any help would be great. Is the hard drive not compatible with solaris? I tried a couple of other drives same result. Thanks in advance

You're trying to remove an old/small hard disc and you try to
install the new 4.5GB drive instead, is that right?
The boot-file property in the openboot prom is set to "...cprboot" because the system was suspended
(and not shutdown), before you've removed the hard disc. On power-up, the
system wants to resume from suspend state with the information saved
on the hard disc and tries to do that using the "cprboot" boot
program. (obviously this cannot work because the disc with the suspend
state data is gone). You can probably get rid of this error by
using the open boot prom commands printenv/setenv to check/correct
    the boot-file property.
The other problem is the "Bad magic number in disk label" error
message, but this is just a hint that the new disc contains no
valid disk label, so you cannot boot from the new disc, yet.
This is to be expected - because the disc contains no valid data.
I'd say that you should just place you solaris installation cd into
the cdrom drive and try a 'boot cdrom' at the open boot prompt and
install a fresh copy of solaris on the new drive. Then restore
your user files from a backup (or whatever) on the new drive.

  • ISE deny access to Android devices

I have a customer who likes to deny access to any Android devices on its guest service. (The network has an anchor WLC, the authentication is set as LWA)
First I tried setting a simple AuthZ rule indicating "if Device-OS equals Android, then Deny Access"
Also tried setting a profiled group. Any device belonging to this Android devices group must be denied.
It appears the results were not consistent enough. On my first tests, a Galaxy smartphone was not allowed to pass after the AUP, but after some tries the user got access.
I think something may be missing in the config, as it appears the ISE is not recognizing the Device-OS. Any device is added to the profiled group.
Some idea to troubleshoot and fix this requirement?
    Regards

I did a quick test enabling DHCP profiling on WLAN in the WLC. I couldn't did extensive tests because the DHCP appears to not working, so I needed to back. I don't understand why enabling this option affects the DHCP functionality ...
Unfortunately I can't do extensive tests on productive network, so I would need to be sure about which parameters to change.
In lab (not the same environment to test) I have seen the ISE is able to identify a Galaxy smartphone as Samsung Device (by RADIUS probe), I guess by the OUI Endpoint, and some minutes later as Android (by DHCP probe) ... So, I wonder if it is possible to define a priority or preference over which probe apply first ...
In the ISE Endpoint details I found this
    User-Agent      Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.6; es-us; GT-I9070 Build/GINGERBREAD) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1
I guess here is where the ISE learns from the device is an Android, right?
    Regards ...

  • MIFI 2200 Upgrade resulted in seemingly dead device

In attempting to activate a mifi2200, after plugging it it to my laptop with a usb cable, it trigged an update download and install, and before it finished it seemed to stall and the end result is a device that no longer lights up or seems to work at all.  When I plug it in with the USB cable there's some sort of recognition on my laptop - it launches the 'installing device driver' window and then seems to attempt to configure it, the bar goes back and forth for a while, and then the window disappears.  Is there any hope for my device, or did the upgrade kill it?  I've tried all kinds of troubleshooting, but nothing has worked.  I only have a glimmer of hope since it does get recognized by something when it's plugged in, but isn't recognized by the VZ Access Manager software or my laptop as an attached device and doesn't light up.

  • Is there a safety assistance feature on the s4?

Hi, I saw on youtube that there is a 'safety assistant' feature on the s4, but don't have it on my phone.
Where can I find that? It's supposed to be at {Settings/My Device/Safety Assistance (under Blocking Mode).
This is a very useful tool in case of emergency or someone trying to hijack or following you.
    Please help.

You may have been watching a video for a S4 on another carrier or from another country.  Not all S4s will be the same across phone carriers and countries.  A US T-mobile Galaxy S4 may have a different menu layout and or features from a US Verizon Galaxy S4.  But I have heard of this feature on the S3.  It may be on the S4 in another place.  good luck.

  • Solaris 8 DCA Download Won't Fit on Floppy

Holy Schmokes Gus, here's my prob. I downloaded
the Solaris 8 Device Configuration Assistant file
to drop on a floppy, but the file is like 19k too big.
My floppy has a formatted size of 1,457,664 bytes, but
    the file size is 1,474,560.
Has anyone else had this problem, or even better, does
anyone have an idea for a solution? I'm running
NT, but I'm assuming that has nothing to do with
the available disk space on a standard floppy.
    Thanks for any advice!

Yes, it's a floppy <b>image</b> including boot sector, fat, directory
    information, etc...
Do <b>not</b> write it as a file onto an empty MSDOS diskette. That
does not work (and it doesn't fit on the floppy :-)

  • Installing SFWgcc from Sol 8 Media

I can't get CDE/Openwin running (Yet), so am pkgadd'ing direct from the Additional software CD. When installing SFWgcc, I get complaints about SFWgcmn not being installed. This packages doesn't seem to be on any of the CD's, is this a mistake by Sun? Or am I not looking correctly?

What do you select as the device to boot from? Is Solaris installed on the Hard drive? If not then you must select the cdrom as the boot device until such time as Solaris is installed on the hard drive. If the floppy was not write protected when this happened it will be corrupt now and you need to download a new image from http://access1.sun.com and re-create the DCA floppy using the dd command.
If there is a Solaris 8 install on the hard drive then you may still need to boot cdrom, single-user and debug that install.
Instructions for booting single-user cdrom are in InfoDoc 22006. Here is the pertenant section:
Booting Single-User From CDROM Using the Device Configuration Assistant (DCA) on the Hard Drive:
    1). Power the system on.
2). Insert the correct version Solaris Software cdrom for your system.
OPTIONAL: If there is a boot loader in operation on your system, select the Solaris partition as the partition to boot from.
3). After the "Solaris Secondary Boot Loader" and "Running Device Configuration Assistant" messages appear, hit the 'esc' key where prompted to do so.
4). At the "DCA intro screen" hit F2 (F2_Continue).
5). At the "list of devices found" hit F2 (F2_Continue).
6). At the "list of available boot devices" select the CDROM as the device from which to boot a Solaris kernel.
7). At the screen where you are prompted to select 1, 2, or 3 for what type of install you wish to do, enter 'b -s' instead of a number.
This will bring the system up to single-user mode from the cdrom.
    Hope this helps.
