I assume that the FX update is grayed out because your login does not have permissions to write to the install directory.
Release of patch updates for FX/TB "when Sun deems it necessary" is EXACTLY what I am afraid of and want to avoid. Mozilla releases rather frequent updates with important security fixes. I want those updates immediately, not when Sun deems it necessary. Based on the performance of patches for Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash, Sun is woefully slow on patch update releases for bundled third party software.
Mozilla releases s/w updates in Sun package format. Will there be some conflict with the Sun Update Manager/smpatch processes if I install the Mozilla packages over the bundled Mozilla software?
Another way to ask this question: Will Sun release patch updates for EVERY FX/TB release (e.g. 2.0.0.8, 2.0.0.9, etc.) or just releases that they deem important? Secondly, how long after Mozilla releases an update can we expect to receive a Solaris patch with that update?

  • CDE desktop 1.1 on 2.5.1

    Hello
I'm attempting to install CDE on Solaris 2.5.1 on an x86, but there seems to be an error in the installation script - install-cde. the error from the shell is "unexpected "else": line 2343". I checked the script, and the function LoadLocale seems to have been muffed. A portion of a case statement is repeated a few times and then the script just seems to end abruptly. this is stuff from 1995, around August I think.
Do you have any reference to this problem?
    thanks,
    John

I found this document on SUN's internal database. Based on that the
CDE 1.1 is an internal version, and should not be used by customer.
You may want to try CDE 1.0.1 for your 2.5.1 system.
    Hope this helps. Thx.
    ====
SYNOPSIS: CDE versions and Solaris versions
    DETAIL DESCRIPTION:
CDE version status and version of Solaris that supports it
    CDE 1.0 no longer supported.
CDE 1.0.1 only supported on Solaris 2.4 and Solaris 2.5.
It will most likely work okay with Solaris 2.5.1, for
example, if you had CDE 1.0.1 and just upgraded OS to 2.5.1
or if you are doing a remote mount from a Solaris 2.5 system.
However, this is not supported, ie. you can't escalate an
issue for Solaris 2.5.1 and CDE 1.0.1.
CDE 1.0.2 supported on Solaris 2 (version 2.4 or later) operating
    environment (from CDE distribution page).Bundled
    with Solaris 2.5.1.
CDE 1.1 This will not be released to customers. It is for internal
use only. And it will really only be supported on Solaris
2.5.1 as far as patches are concerned.
CDE 1.2          bundled with Solaris 2.6 and only supported on 2.6. Cannot
be used with any other OS release. And you cannot use
earlier versions of CDE with Solaris 2.6.
Solaris Desktop "early-access release of CDE 1.3." Contains many features
Extension 1.0 of CDE 1.3, but is not true CDE 1.3. May be used with
(SDX, SDE, Solaris 2.6, but the user runs the risk of having problems
SolarEZ) when applying CDE 1.2 patches to SDE packages. Not
supported for any version of Solaris except 2.6.
CDE 1.3 bundled with Solaris 7 and only supported on Solaris 7.
Cannot be used with any other OS release. And you cannot
use earlier versions of CDE with Solaris 7.

  • No exit: CDE with ssh  - telnet is ok

    Hi
We use SGD 4.2 on Sol10 Sparc. The CDE Sessions (Solaris Sparc) work great, but when we switch from telnet to ssh as 'connection method', the Sessions remains open after clicking 'exit'. The 'keep launch connection open' is greyed (not changeable) but active for 'connexction method'=SSH.
With 'telnet' the 'exit' works nice.

My hardware is a PentiumII 266 with 128megs of ram 6gig harddrive. 3com Etherlink XL PCI and a Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 pci. Can someone please help me.

Yes, I did it. It was there that I found the DISPLAY problem, but looking at the environment variables, everything seems to be ok.

  • Default Screensaver Picture Speed

I was watching the default Apple TV screensaver one day, as I usually do for a couple of hours a day, and had a crazy realization:
All the pictures are moving up at the same speed! It only looks like the ones further away are moving slower and the closer pictures are moving faster because of the depth perception - the camera is so close to the closer pictures that they pass by really quick while the ones further back go very slow.
Is this true or did I just make this up? Take a look and decide for yourself.

  • Solaris 9 x86 bug report - el_GR.ISO8859-7 & CDE

I'm posting this article here, because I can't find any official Solaris 9 x86 bug report page. I hope the developers will notice it. I'm using Solaris 9 x86 (12/02), with the latest 9_x86_Recommended patch cluster installed, and support for Greek installed too.
It seems there is some kind of problem, when trying to view text files with Greek (el_GR.ISO8859-7) characters, which were created under Windows. To be more specific:
If I boot at CDE with language el_GR.ISO8859-7, and try to view a .txt file (just with a simple double click), which I have created under Windows, with Greek characters,
the screen goes black, and the CDE login screen appears again (restarts). If I keep the Greek language or change the language to US English, I can boot at CDE again, with
no problems. If I try "command line logging", the screen goes off - just like when the computer is powered off, and I can't do anything, (well, except pressing the reset button, that's the sure way). And if I use the "init 6" command, while being logged at CDE, from a terminal, the Graphical Desktop exits, and then, the screen goes off again (just like the computer is powered off), but finally the computer manages to restart.
I'm using the Sun X server, NOT the XFree86 porting kit and I use the entry

How do I enable/configure a graphical interface (cde) for my Solaris 8 branded zone in solaris 10?

    1. check if dtlogin is running in S8 BZ:

    Hiya,
Can anyone point me in the direction of the file that CDE's Style Manager updates to force the "home" session to be used on login (instead of the "current") ?
(I'm in the process of constructing a Solaris 8 2/2 client build with a severly clamped down CDE and I'm having some problems sorting out a preconfigured home session for users. I need to be able to force the $HOME/.dt/sessions/home session to be loaded when the user logs in, but I'm not in a position to use Style Manager to set it up. I've trawled through the $HOME/.dt files and I can't see what Style Manager actually does to the dt environment. I don't even mind if I have to force it to use home for every user including root).
