CDE Login

New installation of Solaris 10. Root can login to the console using CDE no problems. When any other user tries they just get returned back to the CDE login screen. Users were added using the Solaris Management Console. There must be a setting somewhere that restricts console logins?
Thanks.

Accounts created in SMC without using any templates will
'helpfully' have their home directories created in /export/home,
then marked to be NFS automounted to /home on demand.
Check whether this is the case and, if so, that all your NFS services are
up.

I don't know if it helps. But I had problems with the x-server not starting (didn't even get a gui login just command line) re-setting the network properties seemed to fix it, looks like anything dodgy in the network config stuffs up the start up proceedure.

    Hi,
I would follow Yogesh's suggestion to run the query in RSRT under debug mode to find out whats happening. Might be an authorization issue even if you are not getting an authorization message.
Also run the query in debug mode under RSRT for the id its working.
Try to delete the cache. Try to delete the cookies if you are executing the report in the web.
Try to copy your id to a test id and then execute using the test id. See if that works.
    Cheers,

  • CDE login and NIS

I installed NIS on two client Ultra 5's, but cannot login using CDE's dtlogin. I can remotely login via ssh, but at dtlogin it fails saying: "Login incorrect: please try again". The generic login failure message. I installed the client by doing the following:
    # domainname test
    # domainname > /etc/defaultdomain
    Modified /etc/nswitch.conf to add "nis"
    # /usr/sbin/ypinit -c (giving the name of the NIS server)
    #/usr/lib/netsvc/yp/ypbind
I'm missing something, but I'm not sure what it is. Do I need to copy and modify one (or more) of the /usr/dt/config files? Thanks.
    Bob

Never mind! I had run "/etc/init.d/dtlogin reset" which had done nothing.
    I ended up running
    # /etc/init.d/dtlogin stop
    # /etc/init.d/dtlogin start
    That fixed it .

  • JDS and CDE login loop

I performed a fresh install of Solaris 10 on a Sun Enterprise 250. When I go to login to JDS or CDE, it continually loops back to the login screen. I can login through the command line though. I checked /var/dt/Xerrors and didn't see any messages related to the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just did a fresh install, and JDS and CDE seem to work fine until I install Java System Directory. Once I install that, I can no longer login through the GUI, but command line still works. Any ideas?

Thank youIt is a bit vague and has multiple answers based on context, but the easiest explanation is that it basically means "put the driver jar in the proper place". What the proper place is, is server specific.

  • Cannot login at JDS/CDE or console

I'm having difficulty with an HP server running Solaris 10 - u7. Everything was fine Friday when I left, but upon arrival Monday morning, could not log into any accounts, including root. Through much difficulty I was able to mount the zfs root and change the /etc/shadow file and log into single user mode and reset the root password and my own userid password. I can log into root from single user any time. I still cannot log in to the command line console nor into any desktop (Java or CDE). I am wondering if the cde-login service is corrupted and its preventing any logins, including the console. None of those services run in single-user so disabling doesn't seem to do anything. I don't see anything in the dtlogin error files that indicates a specific problem (missing files, etc). Short of reloading the OS, does anyone have any other ideas how to at least get a command line console login?
    thanks - mc
Edit: I was able to find an old root pool snapshot I had stashed on another disk and rolled back to it, and restored the system and kept all my user data intact. That still doesn't solve what the problem was initially and I would still like to hear any suggestions on what could cause the cde-login and console-login to fail on all accounts as it did.

What do the */etc/inittab* file say? Compare the file with some other server. The getty process is culprit i think.

  • CDE problem after login

I have installed solaris 8 completly. But after CDE login,
I have seem black screen and only help and File manager windows there. My Video card is ET6000 with 2.25M Ram and resolution setting is 1024*768 256 color. Monitor is 15 inch with 48MHz MultiFrequency setting. Could any body help me? Tks a lot!

First try setting your video card as a Standard VGA with 800x600 resolution. Check to see if you are able to see everything on the desktop.
If you can, you need to find a driver that is better suited for your video card.

  • Solaris 9 x86 bug report - el_GR.ISO8859-7 & CDE

I'm posting this article here, because I can't find any official Solaris 9 x86 bug report page. I hope the developers will notice it. I'm using Solaris 9 x86 (12/02), with the latest 9_x86_Recommended patch cluster installed, and support for Greek installed too.
It seems there is some kind of problem, when trying to view text files with Greek (el_GR.ISO8859-7) characters, which were created under Windows. To be more specific:
If I boot at CDE with language el_GR.ISO8859-7, and try to view a .txt file (just with a simple double click), which I have created under Windows, with Greek characters,
the screen goes black, and the CDE login screen appears again (restarts). If I keep the Greek language or change the language to US English, I can boot at CDE again, with
no problems. If I try "command line logging", the screen goes off - just like when the computer is powered off, and I can't do anything, (well, except pressing the reset button, that's the sure way). And if I use the "init 6" command, while being logged at CDE, from a terminal, the Graphical Desktop exits, and then, the screen goes off again (just like the computer is powered off), but finally the computer manages to restart.
I'm using the Sun X server, NOT the XFree86 porting kit and I use the entry

  • Cannot Start CDE in Solaris 9

I have installed Solaris 9, including all supplement CDs. I cannot get the CDE login screen to come up. I have looked in the other forums and tried:
    dtconfig -e
    dtlogin
    dtlogin -daemon
All with no luck. Please help. Thank you.

OK, I found that the full name of the host is ingenipub204.ingenipub.unal.edu.co, but, can sombody tells me what option shoud I change to get this right... so I can start the Application Server?

  • Vnc without dtlogin, I.e. using gnome display login?

    Greetings all,
Anyone out there use the xvnc server that comes bundled with u5 or u6 successfully? I've been able to get it to run with the default 'cde-login', but due to a number of security issues, we are strongly recommended to not use it (Federal Desktop Computing Configuration (FDCC)). So I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get it to work with gdm2-login (the Gnome login manager). I get a sucessful connection, but it's blank with no log in options of any kind.
    Appreciate any thoughts or insights.
    Dave
    P.S. Solaris 10 (x86 and Sparc) machines, version 11/08 (aka u6)
    Dave

    Dave,
I've been having the same issue. I installed SUNWxvnc on a SPARC box running Sol 10 8/07 updated to the 138888-01 kernel. It worked fine while using the cde-login, but then we have a security package that we install that changes the default login to gdm2-login. Since then the vnc processes have failed to start. I've done some searching and the only requirement I have found is that XDMCP needs to be enabled in the gdm.conf file. I haven't made much headway with the issue because of other fires that I'm fighting, but will post if I figure it out. I would appreciate it if you have any other info on this...
    Thanks

The utxsun script should be executed by the X Display Manager, which on Solaris 10 is dtlogin. So check that dtlogin is running. If it isn't, start it by doing svcadm enable cde-login.
If dtlogin is running and you still don't get past 26D then look in dlogin's error log file, /var/dt/Xerrors, for clues. Also examine SRSS's main log file, /var/opt/SUWNut/log/messages, for information about how SRSS itself is handling these sessions.

Client is a Sun Ray 3. We can login from a HP Thin Client (Neoware) and from another Solaris 10 system so we know the X is running. After some debugging, we know that utxsun script is not called but we cannot determine the calling sequence so we don't know where to go from here. Help would be appreciated. The firmware on the client was updated from the server, client can be pinged, queried, etc. Just can't log in.
