CDG Format not recognized with Superdrive

I would like to make a copy of a Karaoke disc and the files are .CDG format (the karaoke standard). The superdrive recognizes these files as .aiff and only copies the audio (and doesn't recognize the words or video). How can I find out of the Superdrive in my machine supports .CDG?
I talked with an online agent with Apple support and they suggested finding a third party software product. In my experience (with PC's), not all drives support the CDG format, and those that do have a check box within the disk utility tool (which is absent in the Mac disk utility).
Absent of contacting the Superdrive manufacturer, I'm at a loss.
Thanks.

Check the permissions for the individual movies, you clearly have permissions set correctly for the drive and the folder containing or movies or none of you movies would play (I take it some of your movies that you are streaming do play)
Check the filenames do not contain illegal characters.
For diagnostic purposes you may want to sync one of the movies you are having issues with to confirm that they will play when synced and that this is not a format issue.
You might also want to try Repopulating itunes

    Is there a way to restore photos from Drop box to my desktop iPhoto in a large batch instead of one at a time? I tried and a zip file was downloaded but won't open. Says file format not recognized. I see how to do it one at a time with the "download" button in Dropbox but that's so cumbersome for lots of photos.

    Have you tried these avenues?

    plz somebody help me what should i do now.

    it sounds like a fualty installation of Lion, this may happen from time to time.
    The best thing to do in this situation is to reinstall Lion. You will not loose anything doing this, but you should always keep back ups of your information.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/recovery/
    basically hold Cmd+R on boot..
    first go to disk utility, verify and repair your disks and permissions. Exit out of Disk utility and then go directly to "reinstall Lion"
    choose that and let it reinstall.
    Adobe CS6 does need Java to run.
    To play your movies you might need to get an application called VLC. VLC is a free app and will play most videos and music files you throw into it.

    you have a 64bit intel mac, so get the one for that.

    I have iphoto 6 and my pictures are no longer showing.  I have tried importing them but it just give me an error msg. (file format not recognized) I have tried rebuilding the iphoto library but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

    How did you rebuild?
    Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
    To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
    Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
    Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
    Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
    When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
    In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • PIM.fromSerialFormat "Format not recognized"

    Hi, I'm trying to use PIM.fromSerialFormat in order to read back a contact that was written out using PIM.toSerialFormat. The problem is that fromSerialFormat has a PIMException with the message "Format not recognized".

    This is not recognized! The test code is as follows (removed error checking for clarity).
    ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    // Get the PIM data.
    ContactList contactList = contactList = (ContactList) mPim.openPIMList(PIM.CONTACT_LIST, PIM.READ_WRITE,"Contacts");

    // Use 2.1 format for time being.
    mPim.getInstance().toSerialFormat(contact, baos, "UTF-8", data_formats[1]);
    ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(baos.toByteArray());
    // This is where we get the "Format not recognized" message.
    PIMItem[] items = PIM.getInstance().fromSerialFormat(bais, "UTF-8");
    This is as basic as it gets and is driving me nuts. Why am I getting this error?
    Any help is very much appreciated.

    have u tried using data_formats[0] instead of data_formats[1] in toSerialFormat method? and if that doesn't work try using "VCARD/2.1" directly as the format

  • Why do I keep getting "format not recognized" error?

    Hello,
    I was trying to play any of the video podcasts from Nick Jr (e.g iCarly, Drake and Josh) for my kids and I kept getting a "format not recognized" error on my APple TV and when trying to play on my PC with iTunes, the video doesn;t play at all. This seems strange to me as these podcasts are rated in the Top 10 under "kids and family" genre so they must be working for others. I was able to play other podcasts in this genre such as the Sesame Street podcast. Any ideas why these Nick Jr. ones aren't working for me?
    Thanks!

    I have been having the same problem - with podcasts AND with Movies and TV Shows bought through iTunes. I was hoping the recent 3.0 upgrade would fix it, but no such luck. While this was an occasional problem with iTunes 8, it seems to have turned chronic with iTunes 9.
    The annoying "solution" that seems to work is to unplug and replug the Apple TV and quit and restart iTunes. Even then, while watching TV Shows or Movies continuously it seems to work, but after any interruption, either due to shutting off the Apple TV or letting it go to screen saver for an hour or so between shows or movies, iTunes loses it from the device list, and the "format not recognized" message returns.

  • Date format not recognized -- urgent help needed

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem when start sqlplus in dos command window. If I start it from C:\oracle\ora81\bin, it won't started and error message showing like 'Date format not recognized' and then come back to DOS.
    I do have OWB installed which also has SQLPLUS installed so that there is no problem if I start it from C:\ORACLE\owb92\bin.
    For some reason, the path is setting as C:\oracle\ora81\bin before C:\ORACLE\owb92\bin so the default always goes to 81 folder.
    If restart the DB instance, and this problem is gone. But it comes back after some application running (our own application and Oracle provided OMBPlus ). We double check our own application, and there is no where to "alter session ...".
    Any help will be very appreciatged,
    Thanks,
    Daming

    I'm having a problem when start sqlplus in dos command window. If I start it from C:\oracle\ora81\bin, it won't started and error message showing like 'Date format not recognized' and then come back to DOS.
    Do you have a file called 'login.sql' in the folder 'C:\oracle\ora81\bin'? If there is one, is there an 'alter session' command in this file?

    Adding options=(!strip) to the PKGBUILD will skip that step, but make other binaries significantly larger. If you just get the output but that package is built successfully, I would ignore it.

    Error message saying Audio CD not recognized with Mini but reads with Macbook pro. Both machines are using the same Samsung external usb dvd/cd player.
    I've tried rebooting the mini, cleaning the disk, unplugging the drive and the Mini still won't recognize the CD's (it's a 3 cd set and all 3 disks aren't working on the Mini.

    Certainly a strange one!?
    Are these commercial or self made Discs?
    Have you tried CD/DVD sharing on the MBP & see if the Mini can read them in the MBP?

  • Format Not Recognized

    Occassionally, and now 100% consistently, Apple TV will not play an mp4 that PREVIOUSLY would work just fine. In fact, some times, I will just click to watch that same file again and it would work.
    Now, since a week ago, the Apple TV will not play any file, even downloaded files from iTunes. All mp4's state Format Not Recognized.
    This is all via streaming. Some files are very small, and some are very large. They all show fine in the lists, and play fine in iTunes. The files are stored on an external hard drive. I am running the most current version of Apple Tv software (man, I wish I had the software build right before this new idiot v3.0; I have had nothing but problems since my Apple TV automatically installed the update. Big time dissappointment).
    Any help would be great, or any way to load the lastest 2.x version would be great!
    Thanks!

    As a first baby step to explore the reasons and fix them, delete the above file then load it back into iTunes from your back-up or original source. If it works now, the cause was probably as indicated by capaho (or something similar). You can try his suggested solution or just delete and replace all the affected songs/video.

  • WD external drive not recognized with 10.7.5 update

    I've got a Western Digital external drive that was working just fine an hour ago, then I installed the 10.7.5 update and now my Mac Pro is saying that it's not recognized by the computer and asking if I want to initialize it. I went to Disk Utility and the drive itself shows up but no disc image. It's connected via a RocketU USB 3.0 dual hub, which has also worked fine and aparently still is (it's recognized in my system report). I updated my drivers for the USB 3.0 hub anyways but still no disc being recognized.
    It's not a complete disaster because this is a backup disc, but I'd love to avoid having to back up all that data again (about a terabyte, which happens to be all my work files and iTunes files - it's a LOT of stuff). I also wanted to post in case this is some kind of issue with this current update, but I digress.
    This is what my disc utility currently looks like:
    The destination and source can't be the same (as is pictured) when doing a Restore, right? That accomplishes nothing but a blank drive, I'm guessing.
    I also have Drive Genius 3 and tried to "scan" the drive several times, all of them producing failure to scan results. I could try a bench test on the drive, but as I've already stated, it was working fine an hour ago. I'm pretty sure it's the update, not the drive.
    So is there any way for me to save the information that's currently on there or do I have to bite the bullet and re-backup all that data?
    Thanks for any help here. Every time I think I know what I'm doing on the mac I get something stupid like this that I should know but don't.  :-)

    Wow, no help at all. Thanks, Apple!! Another stellar performance. That's the last time I ever install an update as it comes up.

  • Canon Gl2 Video Camera Not Recognized with Firewire 800 Connection

    I have a late 2010 mac with 2.93 Ghz Intel Core i7 Processor with 12GB DDR3 running 10.8.2 OSX.  I have a Canon GL2 video camcorder with a MiniDV tape I am trying to download to my computer.  I am using a new 4pin to 9pin Rocketfish Firewire 800 cable. My computer is not recognizing the firewire input from the GL2.  As suggested with other support threads, I have tried to turn the mac and computer off and on, as well as check to see if the cable is working.  I have also tried both a trial version of Final Cut, and Imovie 09 which is loaded on my Mac, neither of which will recognize the camera.  I clicked on the System Information icon and looked at the Firewire 800 status which was:
    FireWire Bus:
    Warning: Unable to list FireWire devices.

    At least I know it recognized something.  I have also checked to make sure the Canon is set to DV-Out on the Menu.  Since I am unable to use a USB connector with MiniDV, would there be any other way to either A) Download the video to the computer, or B) get the Mac to recognize the source plugged into the Firewire?   Any help with this would be excellent.

    I believe that in order to be recognized, you have to start the process from within iMovie of Final Cut; as for your FW port, you can try these two different troubleshooting steps (may or may not work, but won't hurt):
    Reset SMC:

    PRAM:

    It may that your FW port is defective; it that turns out to be the problem, I hope you purchased Applecare because those ports are an integral part of the logic board, so that would have to be replaced ($$$).
    Since your footage is on DV tapes, you do need the FW to transfer it or it will not work. One other (involved) way would be to transfer your footage to a DVD if you have a DVD recorder and then get it on the Mac from there.
