CDMA Wireless Modem and dialup/sms

I recently bought an Airplus wireless modem that uses CDMA. I have zero problem connecting to the Internet (www/mail/ftp). The device comes with a Windows install disk (which has stayed in the box) and a basic pdf (in Thai) for setting up the internet connection.
The modem has a headphone and microphone and is able to send sms (text messages). However, I am told by the local company that this is impossible with Macs/OS X.
It may be the same as devices used by Verizon in the USA (the "dialup" number is #777). I hate the idea of "impossible" so am asking if anyone has set up such a device for voice calls? Not a critical function, but if I can, I would like to.

There is no real solution so I guess I will have to live with this.

  • Wireless modem and Airport Express.. one at a time

Recently my internet provider upgraded my old plug in modem to a newer wireless model. Now it seems that the current setting allow communication with only one or the other at the same time. If I want to be online with the wireless modem and send my iTunes music via Airport Express to my sound system, no dice. I have to either click on the modem up in the Airport choices to be online and listen to iTunes through the computer speakers, or go offline to listen to music through the sound system and Airport Express.
I'm sure I'm just missing something in preferences or settings somewhere.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

  • Airport Express icw wireless modem and B&O sound system

    Hi all,
I am considering buying the Airport Extreme. Main reasons are:
    1) playing iTunes via the sound system and
    2) wireless connection possibility to external hard disc.
I will use it in combination with my current wireless modem and B&O sound system.
From where my internet enters the house it is quite a distance to the sound system location that I can not easily (esthetically acceptable) connect to the sound system.
    My main questions are:
    1) Is Airport Extreme the right system to buy?
    2) Can the Airport Extreme audio output signals be combined through 1 cable for both iTunes and cable radio?
    3) Can I use the Airport Extreme device for playing movies on my television as well?
I am quite an amature if it comes down to setting up networks and systems, so all (low key) tips are more than welcome. Many thanks in advance!
    Kindest regards,
    Robbie W

    Ummm.....
The express will not extend your modem, since Apple hasn't shipped its own brand modem for years. You can't extend third party routers.  You can try a few tricks if you have ethernet cables though...

  • Connecting wireless modem and airport express

I currently run internet with an old Motoirola Sideboard cable modem and Airport Express - previous version. All runs well. Now my Optus provider has upgraded my service with a Premium account for higher speed. They have also given me a free wi fi Cisco modem - DPQ3925. How can I replace my old Motorola modem and still maintain Air play etc with my new modem using Airport Express. I need to know exactly wire per wire help - please, if possible - Thanks

    Hi - I have a similar issue.
I have a new macbook pro, ATV (3rd Gen) and AXn (purely for Airplay of itunes).
All three are wirelessly connected to my HG556a Huawei WiFi Router.
The Macbook pro and ATV work fine and can see each other for airplay mirroring and itunes.
The AX connects and comes up in Airport Utility (AU) and itunes shortly after you turn it on, but if you either dont use it or stop using it and switch to ATV or whatever it dissapears from itunes and AU says it cant find it. Randomly the light on the AX stays green the whole time.
I have to switch the AX off and on to get it back working again (i.e. itunes and AU can see it).
Following other forum posts I've set the AX up by hard connecting it to my router, setting a static iP and reserving ports 5353 and 3689 to that address. I've also turned off ipv6 or whatever using the networksettings Terminal code string. I have also repaired permissions with disk utility!
It still dissapears from available options in iTunes and AU. ideas?

  • Wireless Modem and Airport Express USB Printer

I am already connected to the internet via a wireless modem provided by my ISP. The connection uses Airport. I just purchased an Airport Express to connect my computer to a printer through the USB port. However, I can't get the airport utility to connect to the Airport Express solely for the purpose of connecting to the printer. I have tried to make the new aiport express both a new network and part of an existing wireless network with no sucess. I sitll have a flashing yellow light on my Airport Express. I have not connected the wireless modem to the Airport Express. Do I have to connect the airport express to the modem? Help!

    Hi Andrew Otis:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You'll need to configure your AE via the Airport Admin Utility to Join an Existing Wireless Network, then select the name of your network in the drop down box or enter it EXACTLY as the SSID is broadcasting your network Name. You may also have to configure wireless security if you wireless modem has that enabled.
    I hope this helps!

  • Wireless modem and multiple monitors

I just bought a mini for my office, which does not support Macs. I was told I could not hook it up to the network, so I did not get the Airport option, though I did get bluetooth for the mouse and keyboard. Now they tell me that, while I can't hook up to the local network, I can connect wirelessly (and only wirelessly) to the university network. Is there a way to do this without having to take the mini in to get an internal wireless modem installed? I don't need the perfect solution because what I am mostly concerned with is being able to email stuff to my Windows PC for printing and backup.
Second, I often use two or more documents at the same time, and my 19" screen is just not enough. I'd like to hook up two 17" screens simultaneously, where each screen shows half of the total desktop and the mouse will move seamless across them. Can this be done with the mini?

Sorry if this upsets you, but you indicate you are at a university? Are you faculty? I have yet to run across a u that totally restricted the use of Macs on their network. In fact that is usually the one place, as a result of academic freedom, that you can have the machine of your choice. This especially true if you are faculty. When I was at Illinois we had one professor with a Mac on the network. In my wife's Economics department at UCF, in a business school, there are two faculty with Macs on the network. While at UF, the IT guys in our department discouraged using a Mac on the network, but it could be done. My point on this is that academic freedom overrides IT guys that have fear of something different. I could understand this if you were in a corporate setting where they heavily restrict what is put on the machines, as the place I am now, but in a university setting, I truly find it hard to believe that they could restrict you like that. If that is truly the case, let me know the university, and I will be sure not to ever apply for a position there since it appears that academic freedom does not exist there.
Btw, I would be curious to find out about other departments on the campus. I am sure there are Macs out there somewhere, there might be a department that is nothing but Macs, unless you are only a business school.

  • Is there a wi-fi analyzer app for ios7 that will display the channels on my wireless modem and the strength of these channels.  I would like to select the channel with the least amount of traffic.

I Would like to use my iPad to view traffic and strength on the channels supported by my wireless modem.  Android has apps of this nature.  I cannot find one on the App Store.  I tried all the free apps and read descriptions for the paid apps.  I don't think it is there.  Is there a wi-fi analyzer that will work on my iPad air?  Ios7.

I'm looking for a channel number indication, too.  I had an app that would do that (WiFiFoFum) but it stopped working a year or two ago and I've been borrowing people with Androids.   It's getting to be annoying now!
I looked at appshopper.com but couldn't find a wi-fi analyser there - is there one?
Otherwise, I suppose it's jailbreak the iphone and have a look elsewhere.

  • Wanna kill your wireless modem and function key with a few mouse clicks?

All you have to do is go to msconfig and disable all start up apps except the touch pad and hit restart. This is immediately after the second in two days 2 hour recovery which fixes the problem. After watching while all the flab gets reinstalled and upon rebooting, I checked the fn key, its working. I went straight to msconfig and did what I described above checking the fn key while the restart choice is waiting.... it's working. After restart fn key and all the F keys at the top of the keyboard are dead and the wireless modem is also dead. Even tho the modem light is on.  I go back to msconfig and enable all startup apps  to no avail. I type in flash and restart the flash cards and it actually worked ONCE. I disable again as above and restart and every thing is dead again like before only now it's another two hours of reloading crap I don't need to get this other crap I don't need to work again. Surely...... there is a better way to turn the coffee shop modem on and off. What is it please? If this is the best toshi can do with a marketing device they are in trouble.

  • HT3546 can you use your wireless modem and a airport to extend wifi or do you need two airports?

    please help

If you require a wireless connection, then you would need a second AirPort to accomplish this. The first AirPort would connect to the existing wireless modem via Ethernet. It would be configured as a bridge and also configured to be extended by the second AirPort. You can use any combination of 802.11n AirPort models for either of the AirPort to configure an extended network. Finally, you will want to disable the wireless radio in your wireless modem to prevent Wi-Fi interference between the two wireless networks.

  • Can I use an Airport as a wireless modem, and will it improve a slow internet connection (from the source)

Living on a acerage outside of the city, we have a weak internet signal. It takes days to download a movie from iTunes. Will using the new Airport actually improve our internet, or are we limited to the poor incoming internet connection?
I'm not very skilled in network stuff, so apologies if this question is really stupid.
    Thanks

There is no modem in the Airport router. You cannot use it alone. You must have a modem and the speed will be set by the type of broadband, and factors like distance.
Ring your ISP and ask if there is any way to get a faster connection.
Often 3G/4G wireless will be faster than adsl but will cost many times more.

  • Switched wireless modem and carriers and now I'm locked out - where do I enter admin info?

I switched wireless carriers tonight and now I'm unable to setup new wireless modem because it says that it has been locked by the administrator.  I never setup any kind of administartor anything. How do I proceed?

    Hi @hobart1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are locked by the administrator with your HP Officejet 8610. I am happy to help you with this issue!
I would recommend to go through this post, Re: RESET WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS ON OFFICEJET PRO 8610 WITH INSTANT INK SERVICE, by my colleague @Waterboy71.
Another suggestion, is to try converting from a USB connection to a wireless connection. To do so, please see this website, Convert from a USB connected printer to wireless.

  • Wireless Modem and Time Capsule

I am upgrading my internet service from RoadRunner Standard, to RoadRunner Lightning.  My current set up has a cable modem with a wire running to Time Capsule, which establishes the wireless network for my home.  Apparently the only way to upgrade is to have them install a Wireless Cable Modem.
In reading some of the posts, it appears that if I want to maintain a Time Capsule-managed wireless network, I will need to run an ethernet cable from the new wireless modem to the Time Capsule.  Now my questions:
    1) Since the cable modem will have established one wireless network, does the Time Capsule have to use that same network, or can I use Time Capsule to establish a new (2nd?) wireless network with the same configuration as my current network (ie, network name, password, etc)?
    2) are there issues if I have the wireless cable modem with wireless network "A" and the Time Capsule with wireless network "B" right next to each other in the same room?
    3)  Are there any special setup/Airport Utility adjustments I need to make, or with the Time Capsule not know or care that I've plugged it into a different cable modem that it was plugged into earlier?
    4) I currently have an AirPort Extreme extending my wireless network in a different part of my home.  I assume that if I can get the Time Capsule to establish the same network I'm using now, I won't need to fiddle with any settings on the Extreme, right?
I appreicate anyone who can shed some light on this!!  Thanks!

Even though the replacement modem is also a router,, it is often possible to turn off NAT and wireless.. I wish cable companies would just stick with a basic modem because the router they supply is often a heap of junk or unsuitable for end user.. do a google for the exact model you get and see. Even if you cannot turn off NAT you will almost always be able to turn off wireless.
You can use the TC even with the cable modem having both NAT, ie router and wireless. You need to bridge the TC and set the wireless. I personally recommend you set to manual control of channels, on both devices as both will probably be set to auto and this results in all sorts of issues when they are operating so close to each other. Anyway lock at least one of them. There are only 3 available channels in 2.4ghz that do not overlap, 1, 6, 11. It is highly unlikely the cable modem will do 5ghz so that band on the TC can be left on auto. Give 5ghz a separate name and use the TC if possible as the speed is much better.
As far as using different wireless names (SSID) that is up to you.. both can use identical names and security with different channels.. this will give you a roaming effect, where each device connects to the strongest wireless.. But for this to work effectively the two WAP need to be as far apart as possible.
    2) are there issues if I have the wireless cable modem with wireless network "A" and the Time Capsule with wireless network "B" right next to each other in the same room?
Give them as much gap as possible.. but it should not interfere if they set channels correctly.. but make sure they are as far channel wise apart as possible, eg the cable modem uses channel 1 then the TC is using 11. That way the receiver is able to reject the signal of the other device easier.
    3)  Are there any special setup/Airport Utility adjustments I need to make, or with the Time Capsule not know or care that I've plugged it into a different cable modem that it was plugged into earlier?
The TC will have to be in bridge if the main cable modem has no way to turn off router. Obviously if you can change it to no NAT and no wireless then you just plug them in.. no changes necessary.
You do need to power down the cable modem each time you plug something different into it, if it is not the router. This is to pick up the new devices MAC address and pass the public IP to it.
    4) I currently have an AirPort Extreme extending my wireless network in a different part of my home.  I assume that if I can get the Time Capsule to establish the same network I'm using now, I won't need to fiddle with any settings on the Extreme, right?
No changes will be necessary if the TC is working the same. Obviously if you have to change the wireless name or security etc then you will need to change the AEBS as well.
Do any of the computers connect by ethernet? If so they can be connected directly to the TC. You can then use the TC in place of the AEBS and connect the cable modem to it by using EoP adapters if you cannot pull an ethernet cable that far. There is plenty of opportunity to do a different layout.
But start with seeing if the modem is capable of having NAT turned off. If so then wireless will also be able to be turned off.. they tend not to use the term bridge.. although that is the same.

  • Wireless modem and airport extreme

Hi. I recently bought airport extreme with the intention of using it to provide wireless access to my external hard drive and printer.
I have a netcomm nb5plus4w modem router which is connected to my broadband and currently provides wireless internet to our laptop.
I am wanting to connect the airport extreme to this current network wirelessly. Is this possible, or will I need to purchase an ethernet cable to connect my modem to the airport extreme??
I just attempted to connect it, and then had all sorts of trouble getting my modem back running with my isp.
Please use as simple language as possible. While I am the techno chick in my marriage, I am by no means proficient in the gobbledeygook language!!!!
    Cheers.
i hope I have given enough info.

I am wanting to connect the airport extreme to this current network wirelessly. Is this possible, or will I need to purchase an ethernet cable to connect my modem to the airport extreme??
Sorry, but unlike the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) or the Time Capsule (TC), you will not be able to "join" an existing wireless network with the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) wirelessly to share USB drives/printers.
Since the router you are trying to connect to is not another AirPort, you will have to connect the two (as you suggested) with an Ethernet cable for sharing.

  • Belkin wireless modem and Airport Express lan problems

Let me preface my problem by stating the obvious - I'm not very technically proficient!
That said, I've had an AirPort Express wireless lan connecting three computers on my home/office network for the past 8 months without any problems at all. All machines on the network have been able to access the internet via a Thomson SpeedTouch 530 ADSL1 modem that connects via an ethernet cable to the AirPort Express. No problems.
The network consists of my G5 iMac (ALS), my husband's Mac mini and my Sony VAIO laptop (XP Pro SP2).
I should also mention that half-way between my office and my husband's office there is a second AirPort Express that 'boosts' the signal to his office.
I recently changed ISPs to a provider that offers the faster ADSL2+ service. This meant that I had to get a new Belkin ADSL2+ modem. This is my problem. I cannot connect my AirPort Express network to the internet using the Belkin modem. The Belkin modem connects without any problem if I just have it connected via ethernet to my iMac but that's not what I want to do.
My existing AirPort details are -
    IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.3
Router 10.0.1.1 (this is the SpeedTouch 530 modem)
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
I thought I could change the new modem's address(?terminology?) from 10.1.1.1 (which is how it came) to 10.0.1.3 and that everything would work but it doesn't.
Belkin tech support said 'the problem is with your AirPort Express' (what else would they say)?
Do I have to keep the 10.1.1.1 and change my AirPort addresses? Or should I try to set up a new network?
