CDRW problems!

Hi every one:
Hope you guys are OK when reading these few lines.
The reason I'm posting this message is because I have a problem with a new Lite On 52X/32X/52X CD RW drive I bought yesterday.
It looks like (sometimes) when you insert a data disc it doesn't recognize it and apparently it looks like there's no CD on it. I checked the IDE cables and change them but still having the same problems. Both the CD-RW and DVD drive are using the same secondary IDE channel ( I set the CD-RW as Master and the DVD drive as slave) and the hard drive is uing the primary channel (Master) (lol).
When a try to read a disc it starts reading but then suddenly it stops. When I preview the Warcraft III intro it just skips and it freezes. The DVD drive is working fine so it can't be the IDE cables. Both drives has DMA on.
I disabled the DVD drive and the CD-RW still not working!
I tryed to make a clean Windows XP installation ONLY using the CD-RW drive but it doesn't read the disc and it skips the boot sequence.
What can I do?   ?(
My System:
KT4-Ultra S-R
Athlon XP 2700+ (fsb set to 166Mhz)
512 MB 333 MHZ Kingston Value Ram
80 Gig Maxtor (7200 RPM, UDMA 133)
LiteON CD-RW drive(52X-32X-52X)
LiteOn DVD drive (16X DVD/48X CD)
Omega 450 Watt PSU (3.3v->18A//5v->50A//12v->24A)

The damn thing is damage, what a bad luck of mine.
Next time I'll be more conscious when purchasing CD-RW drives (I'll test them at the retail store). :D
Thanks for your help anyway.

  • CR52-A2 CDRW Problems

I'm just now using the CDRW writing feature of my dive before now all I did was burn data to CDRs. But now I'm using the CDRWing it. I flashed my BIOS to be able t do overbuning (I used the CR52_A2_220 that is now currently on MSI website) I've bought  12x and 24x Memorex CDRW discs and I kinda confused on them. Now with the 12x discs using Nero or Windows (I have XP just in cause you were wondering) I can rewrite to it, but when I use a 24x disc and write to it as soon as I but the disc back in my pc a dialog box pops up and ask me if I want to make a new disc in Win or NERO or do nothing. But I just wrote to this disc it should as me if I want to add more stuff to it, plain and simple it won't read the data on the disc.
Also when I try to erase data on the 24x disc when I tell NERO to erase the disc it give me an Internal Error and shuts Nero down and goes back to the Smart Start screen.
What disc are compatible with CR52-a2 that are CDRW
Also here is a little brain storming I came up with to try and solve my problem
the CR52-A2 - 24X,32X(CAV) - 4X,8X,12X,16X(CLV) and I'am thinking the CDRW featrue only works with CLV Thats why I can rewrite to it. It need CLV to do some rewriting and erasing. Just a little something I cooked up Here the web site I got the specs from. http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/ms8352cdrw/ms8352.htm
So I wondering are the memorex disc compatible with NERO or not and if not what discs are
Basically I having trouble so if I could get some help I'll be most appreciative

I just bought some TDK  12x speed discs form Best Buy and they don't work on my windows re-write interface. When I insert the discs I used windows to write to it ... it wrote to it ... I ejected it and try to read to it again ... but it would not read. And I found a site that shows you the compatible discs with the CD R that you have but .... well I just guessing I have to get some discs that only write up to 74 min not 80 cause almost all the discs on that PDF file are 74 min. Could any one suggest some other way or the problem I having with my drive.

  • KT4VL FSB/CDR problem thread

I made this thread over on AMDMB, regarding a FSB and CD-CDRW problems that a lot of people seem to be reporting with the KT4VL.
It seems a lot of people are having problems with these motherboards, including myself.
    http://www.amdforums.com/showindex.php?s=&threadid=174299
Do you think this deserves some attention here on the MSI site?
Is there anythign that can be done to get MSI involved with this problem?

    Bas,
Forgive me. Ofcourse, when trying to troubleshoot any computer problem, the settings should be set at default.
This computer works very well with the memory timings set aggressively. I play games for hours without problems, except for the CDR and CDRW.
Okay, I went into bios, and selected Load BIOS Setup Defaults. Then I turned off all Wake-on functions, and I set all drives to 32 Bit transfer mode. I also set the PCI Latency to 64, and set the FSB to 133.
Using Nero v5.5.9.14, I attempted to copy a large amount of data from my hard drive to a CDRW. Using Neros' data verification utility, I got the following message:
    "#78 VERIFYERR 13 File UDFCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 6222   Status summary   Total files=878, identical=845, different=8, inaccessible=24, skipped=1.
    12:32:46 PM   #79 Phase 81 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1571    Data verification failed"
I have also tried to copy large amounts of data from CDR to my HDD, used CloneCD4, and used a program called BurnInTest v3.0 Pro, all of these "tests" failed too.
Before I changed my motherboard, I had no problems with the CDR, CDRW, or CDRW media. All of these copying programs worked well.
I remind you that there are many other people that are having the same problems with the KT4VL and the KT4 Ultra.
There is definitely a problem with these motherboards. Many people are having the same problems, it can't be that we are all setting up the computer wrong.
I have built many computers for myself, friends, and family, and I have never had a problem with any of them.
If there is a setup problem, all of us MSI KT4 owners would sure like to know how to fix it.
Funny thing is, the CDR and CDRW will work good at 100 FSB, but not at 133.. How would anyone explain that?
    Bas,
Thanks for your reply in this matter. Any help that you can provide will be a great help to me, and the large amount of other people that are posting and following the threads here and on AMDMB.com. that are having the same problems that I am having with these motherboards.

  • Lots of Annoyong issues with new MS-6330

    Here it is:
    MS-6330
    400 watt PS
    Athlon XP 1800
    256 Kingston
Cheap Vid card (not sure what it is, using only to get system up and running)
    Western Dig HDD
    DVD player
    CDRW
    Problem # 1
Put a new system together a couple of days ago...started with hang at splash screen, which prevented BIOS access.  A couple of hours of trying everything, I was able to enter BIOS by simply plugging in the floppy drive.  After installing WXP SP1, I figured to unplug it (don't need it, nor do I want it).  This simple formula expains it all:
    Floppy connected = Boot Fine
Floppy not connected = No Boot
Go figure.  Endless tweeks produced nothing.
    Problem # 2
The memory test insists on cycling 3 times before it finally decides to boot.  Pressing "escape" produces mixed result, as 50% of the time it will proceed to OS, the other 50% proceed to nothing (hang up, forced to reset and roll the dice again, or play the stupid thing's silly game).
    Problem # 3
This may or may not be a problem at all.  BIOS indicates presence of primary master (HDD), but no secondary master or slave, both of which are present and work fine (so far!).  After the memory test (during which I read "War and Peace") the detection occurs fine.  Like I said, its not a problem, but I suspect it probably will be.
Finally, this is my first experience with MSI.  I suspect it will be my last, unless I happen to trip over one at the dump.  I am on Day 3 of what I was hoping wouldn't progress further than Hour 3.  The board is one more scream session away from ending up in the dumpster, so any attempts to save its life would be considered an act of mercy.  Feeling charitable?

All very informative posts, but alas all have been tried without success.  The floppy drive works, no probs there.  Floopy seek disabled, cmos cleared, battery unplugged, I even tried to bribe it with 20 bucks.  Nothing.
Sorry about the posting in the wrong section.  Frustration breeds ignorance in this case.
Has either of you EVER seen such a thing.  I thought I've seen it all, but this one...holy crap.  I've built at least 50 boxes...never seen this goofy crap.  I'll keep plugging away at this thing, hopefully it will fix itself (insert laughter here).

    hi
did you install sw ide when you installed system drivers?
nvidesm can be nvidia ide drivers.
they work for some and fore som not.
    they messed up my harddrives.
when installing you get asked if you want to install them or not.
i dont know if these ide drivers are included in 2.03 but thought it could be worth mention.
but they are included on the cd that came with the motherboard.
i read in here that you dont have to reinstall windows to get rid of them.
you only have to install system drivers again and say no when asked to install them.
    bye

  • Wierd Problem with MS-8340S CDRW

MSI CDRW MS-8340S using NERO 5580 burns CDR fine (burn image, using bin & cue). Using Imation 700MB at 40X and 16X speeds. MS-8340S will read all other cdr's, just won't read CDR's IT creates.
Drive just purchased, mfg. in Sept 2002, firmware 120D.
The same Imation cdr's WILL read if I use Drive Image to make image rather than NERO. My file system is NTFS. I haven't tried super low record speed with NERO. How can the MSI drive write cdr's that it can't read??Should I try a replacement drive? Is it NERO??
    Hank S.

Turning off native burning support in XP and all was well.
To disable the XP burning features:
Go to your Control Panel,  Administrative Tools,  Services
Right click the IMAPI CD burning service, select properties and set it to "disabled".
Then go to MyComputer, right click on your CDRW drive, click on properties, click on Recording tab, uncheck Enable recording on this drive.
    Fixed the problem!

  • Problem with CDRW

I just burned 2 CD-RWs using toast. When I first inserted them, they both showed up as blank CDs on my desktop. I had no problems burning them and they verified/mounted just fine. Now when I put them back into the drive , the drive does not seem to even recognize that I have inserted a CD (no noise). However, when I insert a CD-R that I burned a week ago it works fine. Any suggestions? I'm puzzled...

I have had the same problem. When I restart, it will finally recognize the disc, but it will not allow me to read or write to it. I get an error about the disc not being readble/writable. This seems to happen solely with CDRWs after I have tried a full erase of them. I have been using Memorex high-speed discs (okay brand?).

  • INstall Problems Turbo2 and 48x12x48 CDRW?

Purchased Cendyne ( edit: same as Aopen) 48X12X48 11/29/02 (from reading hear some got Lite-On model? - my PN# begins 91.3... and serial# ends ...EB1). Package included NERO V5. (underneath 90.3AD28.001) no key# on disk envelope.
Installed as Secondary Master in Win98SE (Only other drive is Primary Master HDD).
Device Manager shows: CD ROM/detail shows 48X12X50(50 vs 48?)
    Driver: MS default CDROM 1999
    1st post screen:Secondary Master 48X12X50 CDRW 1.01 20020904 1.01
    2nd post screen: CD-RW ATA 33
1st problem: Can't boot into windows without Scan Disk cause screen says one of my drives may be causing errors on HDD. By pass scan to boot.
When I insert the above NERO disk it makes an awful sound when attempting to read. Tried to install nero, and it said files were configured and now reboot, and wouldn't - as above. Nero not installed.
Ran ASPI checker, and tho message seemed a bit grayed-out, said was ok.
Drive seems loud when reading other system disk (compared to my prior Digital 40X CDROM).
Tray operates ok, and played music disk just fine.
So to sum up, I'm very concerned with improper boot, loud, vibrating noise when nero disk is in, and general loudness of read cycle.
Also, am wondering if overclocking 1600+ could contribute to  such problems? Thanks for any help!
P.S. All temps and voltage OK.

wonkanoby: Owe you a pint for that one mate.  :]
Was too lazy to take my own suggestion, and now downclocked to default (set to 1.55v again, much cooler). Didn't change 40 pin cable, and all seems fine.
No problem booting, Nero set up right away.
Friend of mine burns a ton, and discovered overclocking a culprit.
Question. Am I right that these drives are limited to ATA33 like my old CDROM drive, not needing 80 pin cable?
Also, any thoughts about louder read? More common to CDRW?
P.S. This new, retail drive was only $9.95 US after rebate  ) .

  • MSI CR48-A2 CDRW BURNER PROBLEM

    hi,
i just bought a MSI CDRW Drive, installed it to my System and for sure wanted to test burn a CD-R, i installed the Nero Burner Software which was bundled with the CDRW Ver. 5.5.10.3, Nero tells me i can just burn 16x and no other speeds possible... My CDRW has Firmware Version 130c... what can that be ?

I've done a little search and found out that:
    1) MSI CR52-A2 won't write faster than 16x in clonecd DAO-RAW or Nero DAO/96.
    2) probably it's not clonecd or nero problem because in other modes the drive writes 52x
    3) Many drives from many brands "hit the brakes" when using these special modes. Of course these modes are the only one u can use if u want to backup protected cds.
    4) In many cases these issues are solved with firmware updates
    5) until now MSI haven't released a firmware that solves the problem
    6) The strange thing is that MSI support answered to a email I send them that CR52-A2 "should write 52x DAO-RAW".
    7) I think MSI support team is a stupid and ignorant team because it's not a one program failure. Both clonecd and Nero can't write faster than 16x in these special RAW modes.
QUESTION: Is anyone able to write faster than 16x in Clonecd DAO-RAW or Nero DAO/96???? Please test it and report back

  • Latency patches and cdrw multisession problem

Hi, I had this problem with tv card Pinnacle and cdrw on MSI KT7 pro 2a. Whenever I started using tv card computer frezzes. I found that if I disable cd and cdrw everything works fine. Later I installed latency patches and with IDETool managed to set cdrw from Multiword to Ultra DMA and everything seems fine but I found that my cdrw isn't working in multissesion mode anymore, I couldn't choose last session to continue. I had some advices with aspi layer but not sure about it and where to get it. Thek you for all help

I've a Pinnacle  PCTV PCI card and had similar problems. When I tried to use it,  it worked fine only once. The second time W2K crashed and in some cases I had a memory dump, while in other cases, just a few, some files were also corrupted.
I think it was an interrupt conflict problem as the Pinnacle card doesn't like to share its interrupt with other devices and if it does, because of APIC, not all the interrupts are equal.
What I did, aftyer a crash that corrupted the file system,  was to remove all serial ports and the parallel port in the BIOS, thus releasing 3 interrupts.
I had to install W2K again and, this time, the Pinnacle card got an interrupt that she liked. It is shared with another device that I do not use, a Firewire controller on the SB Audigy board. Previously, the interrupt was shared with the video card and with the RAID controller.
    Now it works fine.
    Good luck

  • Problem with CDRW IDE sec as MASTER on K2M2

I installed Windows XP uneventfully, first booting from CD. (I tried with XP english and spanish)
As I tried to install the motherboard drives I got an error message.
I was assemblying two computers with the same hardware specs and I got a different error message on either computer. In addition, I wasn't able to run .exe files on either computer.
I tried first with a Lite-on CDRW 52x32x52 then I'd change brand to Samsung 52x24x52 Reinstall Win XP pro and the error still appears
Also tried CDRW on a Biostar MB and works fine, My Harddisk on Biostar MB and works fine, Other Harddisk on MSI MB didnt work
I only have used the same AMD CPU 2400+ model with this MSI MB KM2M but i dont think that is a processor problem.
One of the error messages is that the CD .exe file was not a valid Win32 program. The other one was a problem to access ReadProcessMemory and WriteProcessMemory.
I looked up the log files and the error is described next:

I also tried to upgrade the firmware of CDRW Lite-on but that produced an error too.
On one of the computers I installed a CD-Rom drive as master and the CD-RW drive as slave, and the problem seemed to have been cured but I found the drive speed slow when I tried to access the CD files.
On the other  computer I won't install another  CD ROM drive, so the problem still persists. And i dont want to install CDRW as slave of Harddisk
I  have worked before with Liteon, Samsung and Sony products with the same specs and had never had a problem  before .
I'd really appreciate  your quick reply.
And thanks in advance for your support!

First, have you got the drives jumpered as master, it is easy to overlook that. Sometimes cable select does not operate correctly with only one optical drive on the cable. Are both IDE channels in BIOS set to auto? Most CD-RW's need DMA mode to operate correctly.
If I am reading your post correctly, it appears the problem is occuring during XP install, so lack of VIA 4 in 1 drivers should not be the issue. Could be a bad XP cd, if you are using the same disk on both to install from.
If the problem is occuring after XP has installed, go into device manager, and check to see if the CD-RW drive is operating in DMA or PIO mode. To check that, go to the IDE controllers section, and open the secondary IDE channel properties, and click on "advanced settings". If it shows PIO only, see if the option for "DMA if available" is there. If so, select that, and it will ask you to reboot.

  • Solaris 10 x86 cdrw trouble.  Gnome and command line problems writing.

I'm experiencing general weirdness trying to write CD's and DVD's using a new internal DVD-RW device -- It's a Sony NEC AD 7220 A CD / DVD RW drive on a Solaris 10 x86 AMD system. I have searched far and wide for other threads of similar instances but no one has posted an issue like the one I'm having.
    I have a Sony Optiarc AD 7220 A CD-RW on a x86 AMD Athalon 1.6 ghz based server with 2 GB RAM.
The DVD-RW drive gets detected by BIOS (Phoenix TrustedCore 2.3) and reads disks fine. I installed Solaris 10.08 from DVD using this DVD-RW drive.
However, trying to write to new blank media does not work properly, (effectively at all).
I've tried different brands of brands of blank CD's and CD-R and CD+R (have not tried using CD-RW disks yet). Ditto with DVD's - tried DVD-R and DVD+R's.
    1. Inside the Solaris 10 GUI (Gnome, a.k.a. Java Desktop), when I put in a blank CD-R, a dialog box "Format Media...?" pops up. If I click "Ok" it formats the blank CD and closes the session, CD has been written to and is ruined.
    2. I open a terminal window, as root, and put in a blank CD. "mkisofs –r /home/foo 2>/dev/null | cdrw –i –p 1" will write a directory tree OK, but if I go back into gnome GUI and open and close the CD tray, again, up pops the "Format Media..." dialog box instead of the CD appearing on the desktop. If I restart vold (svcadm restart volfs) then open and close the CD tray, voila, the contents appear on desktop as CD icon.
    3. When I try to write to a DVD-R: "cdrw -i /local/iso_image" It always fails with: Write Track 1....Failed. after a few minutes. It did in fact write part of the .iso but bails out with a failure.
I've tried various other write commands (specifying the device ID, speed, so on and so forth) and command line switch options (following the rules of course) and it seems to me to be more than a syntax / media issue. However if it is I would like to know. I did see a similar CDRW device on the HCL for OpenSolaris with a 'reported to work' rating. That was for a Optiarc AD-5200A, which is going away thus my company has chosen to use the AD 7220A in speciality racks we build and deliver to the U.S. Navy.
I really need to get a handle on this CD-RW device issue and decide if a different brand / model is what it's going to take to solve this and move on to producing and delivering these systems in working conditions.

Sony systems are often very particular about what CD's and DVD's they'll take. I have several Sony systems that I use for video work and they'll read almost anything but they'll only write to DVD RW.  They also don't like cheap brand CD's and DVD's.  Be sure to try both CD RW and DVD RW before doing anything else.  Because of the requirement for DVD RW, they won't take fast speed (16x) DVD's, just 4x. If all of this turns out to be the case, you may want to go with a different manufacturer for the drive, DVD +RW 4x aren't always easy to find in the store.

  • Random Reboots / CDRW Burning Problems

I just thought I would post a note regarding these two issues, because I had both of them and found a resolution for each.  On the spontanious reboot (or blue screen issue, if you instruct XP to not reboot after blue screens), I exchanged my K7N2G-ILSR for the same board and the machine is now rock solid.  I still continued to have burning issues (I couldn't burn in Music Match, Windows XP built in burning software, or Nero), and found that nVidia's nForce chipset drivers caused this problem.  If you are experiencing this problem too I suggest doing a driver rollback if your running XP to the stock IDE drivers and this issue will go away.  Apparently it makes the cdrom and hard drives show up as SCSI devices that most burning software does not know how to work with.  Patching Nero or MusicMatch did not fix the issue either, I simply had to do the rollback and now my machine runs great!
    Hope this helps someone.

See... I thought power supply at first too... I tried unplugging all my DVD dri'ves, and pulled 2 sticks of mem out, disconnected one of my 2 SATA dri'ves, and removed my SATA Raid controller from the machine, and it still did the same thing. I'm running with a 450W PSU... seems to work fine. The odd thing is, I woke up this morning, plugged everything back in, and started testing again, and now I'm not able to reproduce the problem. I think there may be something wrong with the card itself as I was purchased referb from creative... but all diagnostics pass. Anyway, it seems fine now, but I'm still really concerned since, I didn't really do anything specific to fix it. Is it a problem that the sound card is listed on IRQ 20? My understanding is that some devices don't like to be placed on IRQs above 6 because windows basically emulates IRQs above 6. Is this true, or am I just confused?

  • CDRW/DVDR Combo Drive Problem ... ... ...

I'm currently visiting my sister in France. She has a Flat Panel iMac (800mhz/256 mb ram) running 10.3.9 which is used each day mainly for web surfing and some general multimedia tasks. The machine recently adopted some odd behaviour. It was spitting out all discs. This seemed to be irrespective of the type of content. Although some CDR with pdfs and an occasional music CDR would be recognised. The machine has been kept in a fairly dusty environment.
Here what I have done so far to remedy the problem:
Cleaned the drawer with a dry air spray
Cleaned the laser lens several times with a lens cleaning disc
Ensured that all relevant updates have been loaded
Run "Pilot" in Cocktail at the default setting which includes Cronscripts and repairing disk permissions.
The machine now accepts and recognises discs, however, there is a problem still with blank CDRs. When inserting a 800mb CDR, it is recognised but only with a capacity of just under 38mb! This allows a track or two to be burnt but tht is all. Any ideas or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
