CDS-18008 in 6i Rel 4

Getting CDS-18008 when generation server model DDL. Anyone else?

As we plan to upgrade to Des6i v4.2:
do we need to be concerned about this error? Is it known what is causing this error? Is there a solution (not equal to upgrading to 4.3, as that causes problems with Headstart)?
Or do we have to wait for 4.4...
thanks

  • Designer Error CDS-18008

When attempting to generate a table to a database, I recieve the following error:
CDS-18008 Error: An unexpected SGParameterException exception 'null argument' was raised in file ..\cddo\cddoie.cpp function cddoie_index_entry::cddoie_index_entry and line 132
The designer repository exists within the same database that I am attempting generate to, but I am generating the table to a non-designer user.
    My versions are as follow:
    Designer 9.0.2.80.4
    Database 10.1.0.2.0
My work around is to generate the DDL to a file, and then run it; however, this is starting to become a hassle, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Can you provide some more details such that what operation you were doing when you got this error?
    Thanks

  • DVD-RW Storage Media

My cdrom manugacturer recommended JVC DVD-RW 4X for re-writable media. I've tried several on line stores, and they say the product is no longer available, and point me to Taiyo Yuden, which I have never heard of. One dealer remarked that JVC was no longer manufacturing re-writable media.
Having lost valuable files to "unpronounceable" media in the past, I am curious to know if someone can shed some light on this development. Like you, my work demands reliable storage.

If you're really into backing up your photos on a lasting medium, it's best to use gold CDs, which are not rewriteable. Because such a disk's surface is coated with a thin layer of gold, instead of aluminum, and because gold is virtually immune to anything in breathable air that could corrode it, real backup freaks use gold CDs. The downside, of course, is that CDs don't hold nearly as much information as DVDs, so you wind up having to store rooms full of CDs somewhere in a relatively safe locale. And, at about 4 bucks a pop, they ain't all that cheap. Unfortunately, for a technical reason that's virtually impossible for idiots like me to understand, manufacturers can't make gold coated DVDs; so, we're stuck with CDs.
As for brands of DVDs, in my experience, any of the name brands, such as TDK, Memorex, etc. work fine. I've been backing up my photos since 2002 on normal non-rewriteable DVDs and CDs and, so far (knock on wood), I can still access the photos on them. However, I also back up my shots on a 1 TB external hard drive, which, so far (knock on wood) has not exhibited any problems. Hard drives do crash, so it pays to have an alternate backup.
Interesting note: the Library of Congress in its never ending quest to archive everything it collects as permanently as possible, uses lacquer disks and needles to record and preserve all its audio works. They don't trust CDs, DVDs, or, god forbid, magnetic tape.

  • Backingup to  dvd: Itunes or Nero

I'm halfway through the process of using Itunes to rip 2,000 CDs, but pausing to back up the 60GB I've got so far.
I've never burned DVDs before. Burning data CDs with Itunes is relatively simple, but seems slow. It was taking 2 hours-plus for a while. I tweaked some things and it got faster. Would Nero (which I've used in the past for CD-Rs) be better &/or faster? What quality issues should I worry about? I've already turned off DLA and updtated the driver on my DVD-RW +/- drive. And I'm avoiding cheapo DVD blanks.
Ultimately my goal is to ship one set of DVDs for storage in Chicago, the other to Washington, D.C. I'm paranoid.

  • IPhone won't play music imported from CDs or mp3s not downloaded from itunes

When I first downloaded iOS 7, all of the music I had in my iTunes synched to my iPhone, but now new CDs I just imported and previous songs I imported from CDs won't synch (I've tried over wifi and usb).  When I click on songs on my phone that were from CDs, they look as if they are going to play and then skip immediately.  Mp3s I downloaded do the same thing.  Mind you, everything was working fine until updating to iOS 7.0.4.  I've been looking around the forums and have found that problems like this are relatively common and it's a shame Apple hasn't done anything to fix it.
When my phone is hooked up and I click on "on this iPhone", it says the music from CDs and mp3s is on, but the titles come up gray with these litte circle things next to them
Just checking now, I noticed some songs I bought from iTunes are doing the same thing.
I tried manually synching, but when I click to drag the songs into my phone, the section that has music, movies, etc. just flashes and nothing happens.  I know something is wrong because I just put a ringtone onto my phone the same way.
Oh, I also noticed that when my iPhone is synching and the steps go through at the top it skips steps 3, 4, and sometimes 5 (The Apple symbol pops up instead then goes straight to 6 and 7) so I know it's not recognizing the fact I put a bunch of new music in iTunes. Also, when I look at the bar at the bottom that shows how much memory is on my phone, this shows up:
and that Documents and Data thing was not there before.
Can someone please give me ideas on how I can stop this rediculousness without buying a new phone?

Did you already try the suggestions mentioned in this article?

  • Trying To Re-install Windows 8 on Relatively New GT70 Laptop

    Greetings ~!
If you don't mind, I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself. I'm not an expert, when it comes to computers; but I'm not a novice either. However, I am new when it comes to RAID. My laptop is still pretty relatively new - I customized and bought it in June 2013, and it arrived in July '13. Since my desktop pc was dying out, and our family does a lot of traveling during the summers, I was looking to convert to a laptop that would give me the same performance my desktop had, but would be portable. I spend most of my time as a researcher and digital artist, but I'm also a freelance web designer-developer and photo/video editor on the side - when time allows (I'm a married mom of 5 - time is precious, if you know what I mean. ).  I custom built my desktop, back in 2006, with the help of two very dear friends who've done this for a living - back then, I was an avidly active gamer and wanted a system that would  greatly support those highly-graphic intensive games (i.e. Crysis, BioShock, etc.); but I'm not as much into them anymore (now, when given the opportunity and I need a brain-break, I'll play logic and strategic puzzle-like games).
Here is a brief summary of my specs :
    Processor: 4th Generation Intel® Haswell Core™ i7-4900MQ (2.8GHz - 3.8GHz, 8MB Intel® Smart Cache)
    Graphics Video Card: NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 780M 4,096MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11 w/ Optimus™ Technology
    Ram: 32GB DDR3 1600MHz [SKU-818CP] (Dual Channel Memory (4x8GB SODIMMS))
mSATA SSD Drive - Configuration Option: mSATA Option: Operating System Installed w/ mSATA(s):
      - 2 mSATA SSD Drives: 128GB Solid State Drive (Super RAID) mSATA - [ In Primary Hard Drive Bay ]
      - Second Hard Drive: 1,000GB (1TB) 7200RPM Seagate Hybrid (Serial-ATA III 6GB/s - 64MB Cache)
Wireless Network: Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Dual Band Wireless-N 1103 - 802.11A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module
Operating System: WINDOWS 8.1 Pro - (64-bit) [at the time of purchase, I had upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64-bit]
--- I also bought the Creative Sound Blaster X-fi Surround 5.1 Pro external soundcard for my Logitech Z-680 5.1 Configuration 500W speakers (which continue to work perfectly to this day); but when things started going awry with my laptop, the soundcard stopped working properly (all 3 of my 3.0 usb ports seemingly stopped working - they're not ?powering out as they were when I first got my laptop).
--- I just recently bought two external/portable drives from Seagate : Backup Plus Slim (1T) and Expansion Desktop (3T)
My laptop started to become awry back in December/January '13 when I got the wild idea to try out a different internet security program. I had been using avast! for years (w/no problems), but I wanted something that would be more beneficial to me in covering the Windows 8 apps (my desktop was a WinXP system). After spending several days, on and off, reading through reviews over current I.S. programs, I thought I'd give BitDefender a try (they developed a program specifically for Windows 8), so I downloaded and installed their trial version. Upon installing the program, I was prompted to remove/uninstall avast - which I did. After installation proved successful, and things 'seemed well' with my system, I noticed that avast left traces of its program throughout my computer (this is a huge peeve of mine - when uninstalled programs leave icons and hidden files spread out all over your computer). This triggered a prompt to check my graphic/video editors to see if they were still working properly. Well, to my disappointment, one of my editors wouldn't even launch and load. I tested another editor, only to find out that my plugins wouldn't launch and load. By this point, my "peeve" turned into severe frustration. Having dealt with a program that left traces/?breadcrumbs before, I pulled up the trusty recommendation page (that I bookmarked from its tech support), and followed through the instructions on how to manually remove the program - which then proved unsuccessful. So, I thought ... 'what should I do now? ... ahh, let's try a system restore!' Not only did the system restore seem successful, it also brought back the problems with it. *grrr* After talking with a MS tech representative and other tech support representatives (for my editors), I was advised to re-install Windows - they told me my system files were corrupted, and that each time I performed a system restore, I was just bringing back the corruption. In the short time that I've had this laptop, I've already built up quite the collection of 'data', from projects I had been working on (nearly 500 G's worth). Since I didn't have any backup devices at the time, I had to wait until I was able to buy one (which, I finally received two weeks ago). I was also in the midst of another project that I wanted to complete before wiping everything out (I had set up a local server to work on this project). While the project is not entirely complete, it is at a safe point where I could back it up. The day before yesterday, I backed up all of my work and data to my Expansion Drive, and downloaded all of my laptop's drivers to my portable 'slim' drive. On top of dealing with my computer issues, we have been dealing with extremely annoying 'internet' issues (w/our provider), which was prolonging the progress of completing my project ... but it 'supposedly' got resolved last week (FYI: internet services around the Atlanta area are disappointingly lacking in reliability, sufficiency, and options - which is dominated by only 2 companies, and neither provide the highest speeds available in the market, like in other areas).
Now, I am at my wit's end trying to figure out how to re-install my Windows OS. I have wasted my entire day, yesterday, trying the various recommendations to get this done, and I haven't gotten anywhere with it (aside from downloading every driver that I'll need, once the installation proves successful). Is anyone familiar with re-installing Windows on a RAID set-up?  I've already sent in a support ticket, but the reply was it may take up to 48 hours for them to respond? If I can get this resolved sooner, I'd be much happier - right now, I'm the grouchiest person on the planet. heh Per this recommendation - resetting Windows (service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/TechFAQdetail.aspx?formid=3035), that I tried to perform, I get a message that tells me a partition is missing  - no error code was given (I'm not certain what that means, but I haven't "deleted" any partitions - much less, I haven't even messed with anything that is "partition" related; I'm assuming this has to do with the RAID set-up? Although, I did perform a complete system defrag about 2 months ago - could this have been the culprit?). I get the exact same message for this recommendation (alternate route to reset Windows), as well : (service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/TechFAQdetail.aspx?formid=3034) - partition is missing. When those two didn't work, I inserted my Windows 8 disc, to attempt re-installing it that way - it was unsuccessful. The only message it gave me was that it was not able to complete the install (no error codes and no other messages were given). As for this recommendation (a .pdf  file with instructions) - service.msicomputer.com/msi_user/TechFAQdetail.aspx?formid=3034 - it's referring to a slightly different laptop than mine. It's for the GP line of laptops. Mine is a GT70 2OD (w/GTX 780M - msi.com/product/nb/GT70_2OD.html#download). I downloaded all of the drivers, utilities, BIOS, and firmware for Win8.1 64, but I also downloaded the Intel RAID driver for Win8 64. Something in my gut tells me not to follow the instructions per this last recommendation, that there is a correct way to go about it - I'm just not certain what it is? I feel like it has to do with that Intel RAID driver - like instead of using the WDHybrid driver that was suggested in that recommendation, I need to use the Intel RAID driver? but what about the other driver that's mentioned in the .pdf file (WD Boost Driver)? See, I'm worried that if I choose to go with this last recommendation, it will that permanently disable the RAID? Admittedly, my understanding of how RAID works is a bit limited, especially when it comes to this issue. Right now, I have all of the drivers downloaded to my pocket backup drive (Seagate Slim Backup Plus) - so if I need any of those files for installation, I'll be able to access them via USB.
Please forgive me for the lengthy post. I wanted to provide enough details that will hopefully assist getting this issue resolved a little more quickly. I'm trying to recover from pneumatic bronchitis (and the "severe persistent asthma" nightmare it triggered); so I've already been struggling with stress, panic, and frustration. This looming computer-related issue is seemingly intensifying those feelings. I'm having a hard time thinking straight ... if ya know what I mean. heh  I really hate wasting days, when I really don't have days to waste and nothing gets resolved or accomplished. I inherited an 'engineering gene' from my dad, so I've always been the type that prefers to fix things myself, test things out, and learn as I go along; and I've been pretty  successful in doing so. Mind you, I don't go about fixing and testing things blindly, without researching about them first; but when you're not feeling well (feeling 'out of sorts') and reach higher levels of frustration and stress ... it seems next to impossible to focus and get things done right.
If anyone is able to help me, I will GREATLY appreciate you~!
    Thanking you in advance~!

    Hello darkhawk,
Thank you for the recommendation.  I somewhat understand what a MS DOS disk is, but I'm not sure how to go about creating one. I've seen where you can use a program, like Rufus, to create a usb one  - but I'm leery about using 3rd-party programs (especially ones I'm not familiar with). I've come across a couple of 'how-to' tuts, but they didn't clarify what files (if any) I would need to include on the disk (for my particular situation). Right now I don't have any blank cds, nor any extra flash/thumb drives - wish I did, but hadn't needed these for years. There has only been one other time where I needed to re-install Windows, but that was over 15 years ago - I did it through BIOS, reformatting my drives, and then reinstalled via the Windows XP disk. Windows 8 is an entirely different breed, which has left me feeling a bit stumped, at times. If there was a way I could perform it (successfully), similar to the first time I did it years ago, I'd give it a try - but at the same time, I'm a bit reluctant, because if it doesn't work, then I'm stuck without any internet access to get further help.
Ask and ye shall receive. This should be doable in Windows 7 and Windows 8 on another PC. I recommend using a USB Flash drive like in this tutorial, but I'm sure you could use something else.
If you want, you could also use Hiren's BootCD to make a bootable CD with many options and programs on it (I keep one, just for certain situations) that will allow you to do the same things.

  • CDs burned from iTunes don't play in CD player.

This is a relatively new issue - I've never had this problem before. They appear to burn correctly. Sometimes the CD player will correctly identify the number of tracks but when I hit play the CDs just spin around without playing. Other times it the CD player will not recognize the CD at all. I thought it was the CD player but older CDs play fine. And it's not the CDs; I've tried two different brands. I think the problem is in the "initializing" phase which used to last for perhaps ten seconds and now lasts for perhaps two seconds before burning starts. Anybody else ever have this issue?

    Hello frb522,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning disc burning issues:

  • Itunes 7.6.1.9 - ripping cds using too much cpu!

When ripping new cds, itunes starts hogging the cpu like no tomorrow. it will get to 99% at times! I have a 1GB ram, and have NEVER had this problem with any other application or version of iTunes for that matter. I consistantly run multiple programs at the same time, such as Photoshop CS, Firefox and itunes all at the same time with not even 30% of the cpu being used. This is ridiculous.
In addition to basically fearing my machine will crash if i want to put a new cd on my computer, now songs hang up / skip randomly (including itunes purchases!) and this also NEVER happened before the upgrade.
    What is the deal?

Hey folks, there is a DEFINITE bug in version 7.6.029 which is causing a variety of problems, including massively slow time to rip CDs, and frequent hangs of iTunes. I just upgraded from 7.5 to 7.6.029 after ripping about 200 CDs relatively quickly using iTunes.... IMMEDIATELY after iTunes "auto upgraded" itself to 7.6.029, I started seeing massively slower times....rips that took 4 minutes previously now take over 20 minutes. I tried a variety of other suggested fixes (deleting video files, deleting podcasts, upgrading quicktime, etc).... not a bit of it helped.
Here is what DID fix the problem:
    1. I copied my already ripped music files to another disk for safety,
    2. then I deleted version 7.6.029 from my PC via add/delete programs.
    3.deleted quicktime via add/delete programs
    4.killed ituneshelper via task manager
    5. rebooted my pc,
    6. installed version 7.5.0.20 by using file I found at:http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iTunes7/Win/061-3 902.20071105.G6edS/iTunes75Setup.exe
    7. manually delete "iTunes Library.itl" in the ..My Documents/My Music/iTunes directory
    8. I then got the 'old' iTunes to come up by selecting "repair" on the iTunes restart
    9. I then did "file->add folder to library" on iTunes menu (pointing at the saved music files from step 1.) to re-import all my music. Of course, I logged onto iTunes beforehand with my AppleID so that iTunes would re-retrieve all the album art. I did NOT manually delete any files at any time in the except the iTunes Library.itl file in the ....->My Documents->My Music->iTunes folder.
That has completely fixed my problem. Disks are now back to being ripped in the 3 to 5 minute range...CPU usage is still as high as it was in 7.6, but iTunes no longer locks up, and the program is now properly managing my multispeed CD disk drive...operating it at 10x speed to rip discs (as opposed to 1.2 to 2x speeds under iTunes version 7.6)
So, sorry Apple, I won't be upgrading iTunes until I read that you have really fixed this problem...comments everywhere point out this performance bug, and I don't see any coherent response from you guys...just misplaced blame on disc drives, cpus, etc.....but the code is BAD... Hey, you didn't just outsource the iTunes coding effort did you? Sure looks like it.

  • HT1473 It seems like many commercial music CDs won't import into iTunes (copy protection?), so you can only play them from the disc, not your other devices. Am I missing something?

More and more commercial music CDs won't seem to import into iTunes - they just spin, falter, and spit out. I would think I had a setting wrong except older CDs load with no problem. I'm guessing there's copy protection on the newer ones, which seems unfair if you want to, say, buy a CD that has bonus material not available via iTunes (and then have to buy the regular material again on iTunes). Is there a way around this? An easy fix so I can keep buying CDs when I want to? I know it's a technology that's on the way out, but it's not gone yet.

Audio CD copy protection is relatively rare. I doubt its use is on the increase as it would be just one more nail in CD's coffin. On the few occasions I've bought CDs that won't rip I've gone straight back to the store for a refund. If the drive is attempting to read at max. speed it might help to force it to read slower (if indeed you have that as an option) and it may help to switch the error correction mode.

  • Having problems importing CDs into itunes10

i have recently noticed that my imac is very reluctant to import CDs into itunes10 - as well as letting me burn data to CDs/DVDs.
sometimes it will let me burn a CD into itunes, but it will be very slow (used to be around x20 speed) and there will be 'clunking' sounds coming from the drive.
sometimes if it does appear to have imported a whole CD, the tracks have a length of 0:00!
is this a faulty drive, due to my imac being a fair few years old (i would hope that apple make their drives last a little longer than just a few years) - or just some kind of bug that needs fixing?
i would really appreciate if anyone could help me out - as i'm not keen on taking my imac in for repair!
    mac OSX 10.6.7

    Abstractman23 wrote:
ok i'll try toast. but yes, i fear it may be the drive. do think i should take the imac in for repair (probably will cost too much, and be a huge hassle) - or just buy a drive that can burn/import CDs?
    many thanks!
Good question.   If you do find that the drive is bad, you may want to call ahead to Apple and get an idea what a 1 for 1 replacement would cost.
External CD drives that connect via USB are relatively inexpensive, but leave you with more wires and junk on your table.

  • [solved] Mount/unmount extremely slow (relatively)

When I first installed my system, mounting and unmounting took a relatively unnoticeable amount of time.  Now, mounting a single volume takes about a minute or more per volume, even for tmpfs volumes.  I don't seem to see any other performance problems with my system other than this.
The change happened rather suddenly after I shredded a partition on my drive with one run of bytes (the overall size was about 100 GiB, but I've written several times that onto my drive).  If it makes any difference, the partition was the one that's right to the left of my root partition, but I doubt that anything flowed over.  The disk seems to be operating fine, and when I mount from live CDs, it takes the normal time.
Has anyone ever experienced this kind of problem before?  Do you know what I can do to fix it without reinstalling my system?  I tried reinstalling both the linux and util-linux packages, but that didn't seem to help.
EDIT: Problem's been solved.  To fix:
    - Downgrade to util-linux 2.20-2.
    - Save everything that you're working on.
    - Run the following:
    # echo 1 > /proc/sys/kernel/sysrq
    # rm -rf /etc/mtab*
    - Hold Alt + SysRq and then type out REISUB to reboot.

I'm not sure I'm knowledgeable enough to help too much, but you might like to have a look at the strace command to debug this. It lets you see what calls a program makes to the kernel. You can compare its output on your arch system to what your live CD gives you.
Mounting an ext2 disk on my machine produces this summary (the -c option).  I got fairly varied output each time I ran the command, but hopefully yours is more consistent.

  • ITunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing

    Hi,
I recently switched from a relatively small drive to a much larger one and had the larger drive taking image of the older drive.  All of my older programs are now back up to working but I can still can't burn a CD.
I get the following error message "the registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software.  Please reinstall iTunes."
I have reinstalled iTunes a few times and have done soft and hard reboots but still no luck.  Any ideas on the simplest way to resolve this matter?
    Thank you

  • Lately itunes has been splitting up any new cds that my daughter and I import.  We want them to stay whole.  Why is it doing this and how do we make it stop?

itunes has been splitting up most new cds that my daughter and I import.  We want the albums to stay whole not split into 2 or 3 different sections.  This is a relatively new problem.  Didn't always have this problem.  How do we make it stop?

Read this Apple Discussion Thread and possible solutions. The audio jack has been the main culprit, also certain sync and automation settings including connected remotes.
