Cds and dvds not being "seen" by itunes

i recently restored my c drive to fix dragging in my audio. i reinstalled itunes and reloaded all my files. now, when i insert a cd, the window that pops up with my playing options does not list itunes. everything plays fine in wmp and vaio zone. itunes, however, doesn't even recognize that there is a disk in the drive. i have told both itunes and windows that i want itunes to be my default, but nothing changes. any ideas?

Do you want to import the songs, have them in your library and play them?
1. Insert your CD, and look at the initial menu that comes up. See if iTunes is there, and click on it. But by the sound of what you're saying it doesn't appear to be.
2. Go into itunes, and under FILE, select IMPORT... then a new window will appear that lets you find whatever file or cd you're looking for. Go to the drop down menu and select "AUDIO CD" if you see it. It should appear where the name of your CD/DVD drive usually does.
3. Re-install iTunes with the newest version.

At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think.  I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point.  Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before  I take it back the better I think.

  • Nano not being seen in Itunes

    Hi there,
Hoping someone can help me with this before I finally give in and send this nano in.
I have a 4gig nano which I am connecting to windows. I have the latest itunes and the latest update to my nano.
    Here's what's happening:
    - When the nano connects to the computer, itunes launches, but the ipod doesn't show up in itunes.
    - the nano shows under windows explorer
    - the nano can be updated by the update software
    I've tried the following:
    - Reinstalling itunes
    - Reinstalling the ipod service
    - Resetting the ipod
    - Reformating the nano via windows explorer
    And here's the kicker...
I am able to connect another ipod nano with exactly the same software and specs (its just white instead of black) to the PC and have it work fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

My nano was doing this as well. I would connect it, itunes would launch, but the ipod was not showing up in the source list.
I resolved the issue by closing itunes the first time when it auto launched, resetting the ipod while connected to the computer, and letting itunes relaunch. usually the ipod was seen once itunes relaunched. If not I would shut itunes, reset the ipod again, and ipod would show under source list once it came back up.

  • I have a brand new iPad 2 and it is not being "seen" by iTunes for Windows (64 bit Win 7)

I originally had my iTunes library (music, apps, etc) on a MacBook.  Used "home sharing" to drag over most of my collection to my new Windows 7 laptop.  All apps, music, etc show up fine in iTunes on Windows but when I unpacked my new iPad 2 and plugged the apple cable into the USB port on my Windows laptop and the other end in my iPad 2, no synching occured nor did the iPad 2 show up on the left-hand list on iTunes.
Any idea what might be wrong?  I did already try different USB ports.  Each time I plug and unplug I get the audible notification from my laptop that the cable is disconnected and/or connected.  so it's not a hardware issue.

    A Couple of questions..
Is the location shown under preferences/Advanced/General still showing the correct location?
Is the check boxes under this checked or unchecked?

  • Ipad not being not being "seen" by itunes when plugged into mac book pro. Troubleshooting guide didn't help.

Hello, I just recently got my macbook pro (2009, 15 inch) repaired. While it was being repaired I bought an ipad and was synching it to a seperate computer. However, now when I plug in the ipad to the macbook, itunes does not see the ipad and the ipad does not recognize itself as being plugged in. I updated all my software/firmware/itunes software and restarted botht the computer and ipad. The computer I was synching it to previously died on me unceremoniously and this ipad has all my music on it. Any suggestions on what to do next?
    -Dan

    kmiddlet88,
yes, it could be due to nearly anything listed in your kernel extensions, startup items, launch daemons, launch agents, or user items above. Please check all of your installed third-party software to make sure that the versions which are installed on your MacBook Pro are compatible with Mavericks; uninstall every software package which isn’t Mavericks-compatible. After you’ve done that, boot into Safe mode, and see if you still get the beach ball of doom there. If it doesn’t appear there, restart normally and see if it appears then.

  • IPOD not being seen in ITunes...I have tried everything - please help!!

Okay, so I have tried everything listed on Apple's website to get my IPOD to be recognized in ITUNES. When I plug my IPOD into the USB port, the "do not disconnect" screen pops up. Nothing happens in ITUNES. Windows Vista pops up and says "Do you want me to scan and fix the IPOD F: drive?" Either selection doesn't do anything. I have tried the 5 R's from apple. I have tried to download every update available etc. I have tried to even go in and update the driver. However Vista is telling me that I have the most up to date version of everything. When my IPOD isn't connected to the PC, everything seems normal - except for the fact that there is no music or anything on it. But all menus are available and accessbile. Can anyone suggest what to do here? I am at a loss. Please help!! Thanks.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. If I connect my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, the 'Do not disconnect' sign appears, the battery does not charge, and my iPod doesn't appear either in iTunes or on my desktop. Since it doesn't appear in either of these places, I have to ignore the 'do not disconnect' sign and disconnect anyway. If I then reset my iPod, quite iTunes and reconnect iPod to laptop, everything's fine - iTunes opens, and recognizes the iPod. I guess this isn't the end of the world, since I can simply avoid ever connecting my iPod to my laptop while iTunes is open, but is this normal?

  • IPhone and iPad not being recognized by iTunes

    Hi All,
I had a late 2007 macbook pro that developed a line across the screen where everything below it was gray. At first it was a simple 'wiggle of the screen' fix, then it evolved into a 'put a bag clip on the side', then it became a 'put a bag clip on the side and wiggle it to find the perfect spot'. My friend (who has the exact same model bought 3 days apart at the same location) upgraded to a macbook air and gave his old computer to me so I'd have a working screen again. He had updated the computer to lion before giving it to me (I had snow leopard). I had the HD's swapped as well as my ram (as I had 4 vs 2gbs). Now the computer is having some serious issues. When I plug in my iphone or ipad it isn't recognized in iTunes, I did notice its recognized in iPhoto but won't actually bring up any of the pictures... just shows that they exist (but are blank). Google Chrome crashes now everytime I use a command to open a tab or close a window etc. I've also noticed that programs are taking 15-30 seconds to open and I'm getting a lot of spinning wheels. Everything is updated and I've tried re-installing snow leopard and the programs that are being affected. And that's all I've noticed so far, but its only been 24 very frustrating hours.
I'd go to apple but all the products are out of service so there won't be any help there. My friend had none of these problems before giving me the computer and took meticulous care of it. Anyone have any ideas what is going on?? I'm having a hard time trying to understand how swapping a HD could possibly cause all these problems.
    Thanks a bunch,
    Evan

Thank you allan this worked, the final thing was updating the driver softwar for the AMDS in device manager. Thanks again.

  • My Iphone 4s is stuck in recovery mode and is not being recognized by Itunes.

I've tried updating my itunes, restarting my computer and nothing seems to be working. My phone is stuck with the itunes logo and the cable telling me to plug it in. ive tried everything but nothing seems to be working.

    Hey Sonia.jackson
Thanks for the question. I understand that your iPhone is not recognized in iTunes. The following article may help to resolve your issue:

  • 5G iPod not being seen by iTunes

I know this has been asked before but the other threads appear to be related to iTunes 6.x
Running iTunes 7.0.1.8 with 5G iPod with video on firmware version 1.1.
When the iPod is connected to the system the "do not remove" message appears on the iPod screen and the folder for the removable drive letter that is assigned to the iPod appears. The iPod fails to appear in iTunes.
I have already done as many of the 5 R's as possible but I am unable to restore the iPod due to the iPod options appearing on the iTunes landing page instead of in the preferences dialog.
    Any suggestions?

I had all of the similar issues you are having. In XP I went into Disk Management and did a quick format of the partition that holds all the data. THIS WILL KILL ALL YOUR MUSIC AND DATA!!
When I re-opened iTunes it said that my drive was in recovery mode, and then asks if it wants to update to 1.2 after the recovery, I answered yes, and the upgrade was successful.
Another tidbit. My ipod is only recognized half the time by itunes. I have to exit itunes, stop the ipod service, restart the ipod service, then start itunes. Then it will recognize it.
I found an article today stating that itunes has a problem if terminal services is stopped in the OS. I set the service to Manual as per the article and am curious if this will make the ipod visible all the time to itunes.
    Link to super cool atricle:

Again I haven't confirmed this works, but it is worth a shot. I am tired of having to stop and restart the ipod service!!!

  • Ipod touch charging but not being seen in itunes

ATM, I've restarted my ipod touch up to 5 times and reinstalled itunes at least 2 times completely. Still, I get the error:
"Itunes could not connect to the Ipod because an invalid response was received from the device."
My mac is updated (unless you count the spending safari update!) I also tried it with my co-workers iphone and I get a similar response. Itunes lags for a moment, and then the error pops up. Both devices acknowledge that they are connected to USB and start charging.
I plugged my ipod touch into a family member's mac and itunes recognizes it there. Please help me out?

Did you also reinstall Apple Mobile Device Service? See this article how to do: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
