CDs not burning properly

Frequently, when I burn a CD, some of the tracks will have a very scratchy sound and sometimes will even skip. This usually happens on tracks near the end of the disc. I have observed this to happen with both CD-RWs and CD-Rs, and it happened on my old Windows 2000 system as well as my new Windows XP system.
If anyone knows what I can do to fix this, I would appreciate it.

Hi
Four thoughts
• Brand and type of DVD/CD Media
• Burn Speed ?
• Ever used a Cleaning DVD ?
• Free space on Main Start-Up Hard Disk ?
Brand and type of DVD/CD Media: MATTERS
- Memorex, NoName and other Cheap brands - most probably works for other things BUT NOT FOR VIDEO.
I only use Verbatim
- DVD-RW - usually do not work OK but with various kinds of problems. DVD+R is a more modern sort and use to give problems on older DVD-players
I only use DVD-R
Burn Speed (in iDVD or alike): Matters
• Best or Max - is not best
I set it down to x2 or x4 Max
Ever used a Cleaning DVD ?
I use one WITHOUT Liquid but with brushes from time to time
Free space on Main Start-Up Hard Disk ?
- Due to that Mac OS X - is UNIX - it behaves likewise. It needs lot's of space on Boot / Start-Up Hard Disk for it's and the applications temp files.
I never go less than 25GB free space - If HD-Video material is used then 4-5 times more is a good thing.

  • Why will some CDs not work properly with my Macbook Pro with Retina display?

I have the external CD drive for the Macbook Pro with Retina display, but I'm finding that some CDs will not run their applications properly. However, on the older editions of the Macbook Pro (for example, on the 13"), the programs run fine. Is there something I can download to fix this problem?

When the MBP-R does not run CD applications "properly", what does it do?
Is it possible that the applications that do not run properly are incompatible with Mountain Lion? For example, might they be old PowerPC applications that relied on Rosetta to run on Intel CPUs?

  • Dvd not burning properly, not recognized by DVD Player

I have not burned video DVD's for several months until this week when I find that disks burned from disk images created by IDVD no longer burn properly. They are not recognized by Apple DVD player or on two different commercial players that I have.  The disk images can be played with Apple DVD player, but once burned to disk, I get a message Disk not Supported.  I have tried burning disks from 3 reputable brands with the same results.  I just updated to OS X 10.8.5.  Anyone have any suggestions?

Another thing to check is your bitRates and whether you encoded the audio to A.Pack/Dolby. I have often seen machines play once or twice then start having playback issues or not play. It can be related to the encode rates (and it may not behave across different machines the same way, in other words it will continue to play fine on some players and not another)

  • Iphoto-cds not burning

I'm new at this, have just bought a LaCie burner recommended by Apple. It appears to be working, but the burn icon spins and never stops. I drilled down into my manual and found a statement that some apple products can use only 650 mb cds. I'm using 700s but now can't find 650s to purchase. Do I have to use 650s?

    Ok, let's test it then.
I want you to share/export an album of images to a folder on the desktop.
Follow the next instructions and see if you can burn the images.

  • Not burning properly

Hello, can anyone help me please? I have checked that my movies play before I burn them. Everything is good. When I have burned the DVD, the playback has not sound on two of the movies. There is a quick 1 seconds worth of the audio and then its gone. Is it iDVD or my drive?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Have you recently recorded any DVD's successfully? If so and the audio was as expected then it's not likely a hardware issue. Might be a setting/s you overlooked.
Tell us more about this clip with lost audio. Is it 12 bit or 16 bit? Have you tried extracting the audio from this clip to see if that helps or not? Sometimes extracting the audio and then sharing the iMovie back out to Minidv helps (in that you can then bring it back into iMovie =>iDvd and it will work as expected).
    Try it.

  • ITunes crashing and not burning properly

Hi. Having issues since latest iTunes upgrade -- any help appreciated. iTunes 7.6.2 (9) and Quicktime 7.5.0 (861). OS 10.4.11.
Since last Software Update, iTunes crashes repeatedly. Have run disk utility and trashed preferences -- didn't help. Now I've noticed it's cutting off the first few seconds of the first song of CDs it's burning.
Never had either of these problems before.
    Help?
    Thanks.

Problem went away with various updates.

  • Discs not burning properly

    Hi
Just wondering if anyone can help me out.. recently when I try to burn a disc (dvd) with Jpegs and Tiffs, the disc appears to burn ok however when I try to use it in another computer it only comes up as the shortcuts that have been burned... the alias'... Not sure why this is happening, very annoying though.. and wondering if there is some setting I may need to change... I have just been using finder and dragging or copying and pasting the files to the disc and hitting burn and naming disc etc... If anyone could help that would be great..
    Thanks!

Maybe you should create a burn folder and drag the items to it before beginning the burn. Just a guess ~

  • DVD's not burning properly

Creating projects in iDVD5 I am getting projects which seem to be missing data enough to cause jittering or stopage of the movie. Any Ideas???

    Hi Joe,
    Any Ideas???
not yet...put in some more info.
where is the movie coming from? How long? where is it stuttering/stopping? Where are you playing it? Did you create a disc image and did that play fine?
What type of DVD did you use? Burn speed?
these are things that could bring us closer to the solution

  • ITunes is not installed properly. If you wish to import or burn CDs you need to reinstall iTunes .

I have installed iTunes on my new Windows 8 laptop and I get the "iTunes is not installed properly.  If you wish to Import or burn CDs you need to reinstall  iTunes."
I have worked with Dell technicians and we have re-installed iTunes numerous times.  We modified the Registry by adding the Upper Filters key and we removed the CD player in Device Manager and allowed it to be automatically reinstalled by the computer.  All of this failed.
    Please help!

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

CDs I burn from my itunes 10 on my macbook with snow lepard will not play in the regular cd player.  How do I burn Cds that will pay in a reg old cd player?

When the computer was new, I had the same issue I have now.  It was new and I could not burn to play on a reg cd player. Today, I can not burn to play on a reg cd player. Inbetween, I could not burn to play on a reg cd player.  I keep giving up and then trying months later.
I have recently made the cds that play on the computer.  I have also tried in the last month to make a dvd copy, it played.  I have gone to people's homes and tried the cd's burned in my computer. They are not recognized.  This last round I have only used the cd-r but have tried many others in the past. I am running out of money to keep buying different brands, kinds, etc.  I figured it must be my lac of knowledge and am trying to get some new here.
    Sincerely,
    Paul

Thanks for the tip re. cntrl v.  I've copied the diagnostics below.
I've tried all of Apple's troubleshooting advice without success.  For example, my burner (and drivers and cables etc) all work fine.  I've also tried all of their 'advanced' steps in relation to downloading GEAR drivers etc.  Nada.

  • NOT Remembering audio CDs I burned

I burned a mix of songs on a CD from a playlist, which posted the name of the CD on the desktop when completed. Then I ejected the CD to write the name on the CD and put it back in the computer to see if it worked. The name of the CD was changed to "Audio CD" and all the tracks were only track numbers. I found this quote on Apple's help page, but it is not working like they say it should. What is wrong? and what can I do? I am not going to type all the CD names my self! This must be a bug?
    "*Remembering audio CDs you burn*:
"iTunes also adds an entry to the "CD Info.cidb" file every time you burn an audio CD. This is how iTunes "remembers" the CD and track names for every mix CD you burn. The CD and track names are not burned anywhere onto the CD itself. If you insert the burned audio CD into another computer, the CD will be titled "Audio CD", and will have generic track names. The one exception to this rule is if you burn the tracks from an audio CD exactly as they are on a store-bought audio CD. Since the track length and the overall CD length is the same as the store-bought album, iTunes finds the information for the store-bought album when it looks the CD up online."

I record sermons for my church, then use iTunes to add the track title, who the speaker was, etc. Recently, since version 9 of iTunes, those track names do not show on the CDs I burn, even when the disk is inserted in iTunes, on the same computer the CD was burned on. In previous versions of iTunes, not only did the tracks show up on my computer, but they also were present when the disc was inserted in another computer or, into a CD player that shows track names. I have looked in the preferences to see if something isn't checked, but cannot find anything there, and of course I haven't been able to find anything in the iTunes help section. Any reason this changed in iTunes v.9? Is there a way to fix it?
