CDs that won't import

Hello
Is it possible to mount/import copy protected CDs? I purchased the CD as a gift and know my daughter can not mount the CD to import it into her iPod.
I can appreciate the fact that the nusic industry wants to protect illegal duplication, but you should be able to RIP your CDs to play on your own iPod.

The problem we are having is that the CD will not mount in our iMac. So we can not import from it. We have not had any problems with any other CDs. The CD plays in our 3 Audio CD players, but will not mount in my iMac, Powerbook 15" or my iBook.
The RENT CD is produced by Warners Bros Records Inc., made in the USA.
There are no visible defects or scratches on the disc. It plays fine as an audio CD in normal music players and I even tried my car. It just won't mount in our computers. You can hear the drive try to read it for a short while then they all spit it out.

In what format did you import the cds?
I have never had an issue with this.

  • I have 1000  photos in an iPhoto Library that won't import into Photos because it says the metadata can't be read.  Yet those JPG files open just fine in iPhoto, GraphicConverter, et al.  What gives?

I have 1000  photos in an iPhoto Library that won't import into Photos because it says the metadata can't be read.  Yet those JPG files open just fine in iPhoto, GraphicConverter, et al.  Any thoughts?

It’s part of the basic install of OS X. So unless you deleted it then it’s there in your apps folder. If you have deleted it, it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. You will be able to extract the installation package using Pacifist.
Alternatively, if you’re using almost any camera +apart from a Canon+ then the camera card is visible on the desktop and you can drag the movie to the desktop using the Finder and import from there.
No matter what camera you use, if you pop the card from it into a USB Card Reader then it will be accessible via the Finder. Card Readers are inexpensive and all round a better idea.
    Why use a Card Reader?
Because it’s safer: Less risk of your images being lost if your camera shuts down during transfer.
Because it saves the battery on your camera
Because it saves wear and tear on your camera ports
    Because it’s almost always faster.

  • ITunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes

I have a number of WAV files and MP3 files that already have album information. I would like to erase that information and have it replaced using the "Get CD Track Names" function, but keep receiving an error message of "iTunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes." Is there some way to strip the previous information and replace it with information that iTunes receives with the "Get CD Track Names" function?

Programs like itunes use characteristics of the CD such as track duration and sequence to identify CDs. Potentially this could be modified in a very small manner (maybe even a millisecond) in converting to a different format so maybe itunes doesn't even want to try getting the information for other formats.
You can certainly replace whatever information you wish by "get info" on a single or multiple selection of files and entering the data by hand.

  • Files that won't import to iPhoto

I keep encountering files (png and jpeg) that wont' import into iPhoto even though they are fine in all other programs. I am using iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. Any help would be appreciated. I use iPhoto to organize all my digital scrapbooking supplies, so not being able to import into it is a problem.
    Thanks!

Usual reasons why a photo won't import:
Unsupported Colour Profile - iPhoto works with RGB (which is what camera's shoot in) not CYMK or Greyscale
Malformed Metadata on the file - try open it in Preview, Save it, and then import it.

  • New iMac G5 20" loads and plays Cds but won't import in iTunes 6.0.1 (3)

I have a new iMac now for a couple weeks. I have used DVDs of games fine. I put in my first audio CD today after setting up my preferences in iTunes. The CDs mount on the desktop, they are recogtnized by itunes and query for the correct cd info, I can even play the album fine - but when clicking import, I get the error message
"Error occurred while converting the file "...(dosn't matter which CD or tune)..". The required disc cannot be found."
I click ok. I can still click on the song in iTunes and it will play, the cd is still mounted on the desktop!!
    What's up ????????????????
    (using 10.4.2 and itunes 6.0.1 (3) )
I tried updating to 10.4.3, but no change. my pismo & emac work fine with same software

  • URGENT! I have a Sony Cybershot that won't import

I have a sony camera that when I try to import, the screen goes away normally as if it's importing, but it doesn't. I can't edit the video when the camera isn't attatched, and it if it isn't a big ? appears. Help! I need to have this resolved by Thursday.

It has worked in the past, and I haven't done anything with the format of the video. It is connected via USB because the iMac won't even see it if the SD card is plugged directly into the computer.

  • Photos on the harddrive that won't import

    Hello, hello!
I was in the process of importing 180 photos from my digital camera to iPhoto. During the process, iPhoto imported many photos, but froze 120 pictures in. I reopened iPhoto and to my horror, I noticed that these 120 photos had been deleted from my camera but were not in the iPhoto library. I then imported the other sixty odd photos without problems.
Since I couldn't find these 120 pictures, I went to the Finder and located them within an Originals folder. I tried to drag the folder/pictures into my iPhoto library and received a message indicating that iPhoto didn't want to accept them into the library. I have successfully opened the .jpg pictures in the Viewer, but iPhoto doesn't like them.
Is there a way to convert the files or trick iPhoto into accepting these pictures?
    Thanks, thanks, thanks!

Yes, simply move the pics you want to import to the desktop and import them from there.

  • HT1473 It seems like many commercial music CDs won't import into iTunes (copy protection?), so you can only play them from the disc, not your other devices. Am I missing something?

More and more commercial music CDs won't seem to import into iTunes - they just spin, falter, and spit out. I would think I had a setting wrong except older CDs load with no problem. I'm guessing there's copy protection on the newer ones, which seems unfair if you want to, say, buy a CD that has bonus material not available via iTunes (and then have to buy the regular material again on iTunes). Is there a way around this? An easy fix so I can keep buying CDs when I want to? I know it's a technology that's on the way out, but it's not gone yet.

Audio CD copy protection is relatively rare. I doubt its use is on the increase as it would be just one more nail in CD's coffin. On the few occasions I've bought CDs that won't rip I've gone straight back to the store for a refund. If the drive is attempting to read at max. speed it might help to force it to read slower (if indeed you have that as an option) and it may help to switch the error correction mode.

  • LR won't import raw files shot in monochrome

I just shot a wedding. Half the images were shot in color, the other half were shot in monochrome(black and white). upon importing into lightroom only the color images would import. With the black and white files I got the error message saying that the files could not be read. I was shooting with a canon rebel t2i (550D), importing into lightroom 3.2 on a mac OS X.
    Any help would be appreciated!

Can you post a link to one of the RAW files that won’t import, so others can try?  If you don’t have your own website, upload it to www.yousendit.com sending the file to your own e-mail, then post the download link it provides.
Otherwise, have you tried LR 3.5, in case a bug that affects the situation has been fixed?

  • Spanned clips from my p2 card won't import fcp6

    hey shane
i am in fcp6 and having the spanned clip issue. i have a spanned clip that won't import into fcp6. i used p2cms to offload so i do not have the lastfile.txt but could you walk me thru how to import these 4 or 5 spanned clips?

As long as you have all the card dump folders loaded into the Log and Transfer window, FCP will stitch together spanned clips. So if your clip goes from one card to another, load both cards into L&T, then import.

  • Certain photos won't import into iPhoto?

Today I tried to import all of my photos from the past few months into iPhoto from my iPhone 5s. But what I discovered is that all of my pictures from February 21st until May 9th won't import or won't appear in my iPhoto library, but they are obviously still on my phone. All of my pictures from May 9th until now imported, but it's just within that specific time frame that none of those pictures will import and I have absolutely no idea why. I tried rebooting my computer and phone, force quitting iPhoto, selecting only the photos that won't import and trying to import those individually, but nothing is working. Please help, I'm really upset and frustrated.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

  • Some photos in iphoto won't import to imovie

I have 196 photos in an iphoto album and only 37 are imported to imovie. When viewing the photo info it is apparent that the ones that won't import were created by scanning color slides. These have missing information such as origination date, digitization date and all camera and exposure information.
Does imovie prevent importation because of this type of information that is missing when the colr slides were scanned?

Try opening one of the problem jpeg files in Preview, then Save As a jpeg with a different name. For some reason, certain jpegs created in 3rd party applications are not always recognised as such by some Mac software. It could be to do with how some scanners save files. Some time ago I had an issue like this - re-saving the files in Preview fixed the problem. From memory, it related to an Epson photo stitching program (for doing panoramas) - the files were saved as jpegs, but wouldn't import to iPhoto. Saving again with Preview solved it.
It's worth a try! If one works, they all should work once re-saved (quite a few to work through though).

  • I cannot import particular cds that have a media player on them.

I have two cds magic numbers and the chilli peppers which already have a media player on them. When I put them in they start playing with the media player on the cd this means itunes does recognise them and I cannot therefore import them.
Any ideas how to override the media player on the cds?

Sounds like you have "protected" CDs that were designed to prevent music transfers.
Depending on who put them out and when (If they date back to the great Sony rootkit debacle, and were put out by Sony, you've got some nasty software now installed on your computer and this won't work.)just holding down the shift key when you put the CD in the drive will disable the media player and, for now, disable Auto-Run.

  • Santana -All That I Am   CD won't import, way around?

I just purchased the CD, Santana - All That I Am and iTunes won't import it. It seemed like it was importing ok but it skipped like crazy. The CD has some kind of protection that doesn't allow it to be uploaded to iTunes. Does anyone know a way around this.
When iTunes failed, I tried to upload it to my PC under Windows Media (WMA format) and have iTunes convert it to AAC but I just got error messages stating that the music was protected and it couldn't convert.
A CD that won't get imported onto my iPod is pretty much worthless. Be wary of buying this CD unless someone finds a way to fix this situation.

    From Amazon.com
    Content/ Copy-Protected CD
This product limits your ability to make multiple digital copies of its content, and you will not be able to play this disc or make copies onto devices not listed as compatible. Content/ copy protected CDs should allow limited burning, as well as ripping into secure Windows Media Audio formats for playback with most compatible media players and portable devices. In rare cases, these CDs may not be compatible with computer CD-ROM players, DVD players, game consoles, or car CD stereos, and often are not transferable to other formats like MP3.

This review isn't commenting on Santana's new music, but on the CD, specifically the copy protection. I won't be buying "All That I Am" as long as it is in copy protected form that prevents me from listening to a CD that I PURCHASE on any device that I want to listen to it. I looked at this disc in a store, and the list of copy protection compatibility restrictions reads like warnings for a prescription drug. Among other things, you can only rip the disc on a PC to WMA format with rights management using Windows Media Player, and apparently cannot rip it to MP3 format.
    Review:
I have been a huge Santana fan since the very beginning. I have seen the group live twice, and I have owned at least 10 of the albums over the years. But, sorry Carlos, I won't be buying this one as long as it is in this restricted form.

The quality of the recording is very poor particularly after ripping it into itunes. The sound is empty. I would not buy this CD.

The only work around I know of is to buy the "album" via the iTunes music store. But if the future of music is to purchase 2 copies of everything, one compressed and one uncompressed, I think you will see much more pirated music. But that's just my opinion.
