Cds will not load on MacBook

CDs of any kind will not load. After about 10 seconds, they are ejected. The CD icon never shows up on the desktop, and I have this machine configured to show CDs, if loaded. I have resorted to using an air-duster aimed at the slot to see it it is a dust problem, but no improvement. I have never used a cleaning disk as I understand they can do more harm than good. Is there any way to verify if the optical drive needs replacement? Full particulars on my MacBook follow.

Sorry, no idea. I'm just a wanderer from the desktop fora. If the computer is out of warranty you could investigate doing it yourself. Start at www.macsales.com where you can get an idea as to component parts, and they also have instruction videos for many jobs.
Before you give up, read the following since I have memories of perhaps optical drives being part of them:
[Resetting PowerBook and iBook Power Management Unit (PMU)|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431]
[Apple Portables: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411]
Since neither CDs nor DVDs are being recognized it could be something else potentially cleared up by resetting hardware (as above).

  • All of a sudden my CDs will not load into my iTunes ...

I just recently noticed that cds will not load into my library, nor will iTunes prompt me to play them when inserted.  You can hear the machine plunking along as if trying to read it, then it will automatically eject.  What gives?  Have not had this problem before...I am running iTunes 9 on a iMac with OS 10.4.  thanks.

    Hey aj5c,
Let's see if resetting Safari helps the issue:

  • I have a 2009 mac book pro.  CDs will not load in OSX - however it will load CDs in Win 7 via bootcamp.  Same with any CD or DVD.  Any ideas on what is wrong?

I have a 2009 mac book pro running 10.6.8.  I also use win 7 via boot camp.  I can load CDs and DVDs fine, when booted onto win 7 but cannot get the same dvds or cds loaded when running OSX.  So, I'm having to reboot to win 7, every time I want to import a CD into my itunes library - I load the disc in win 7, then reboot back to osx in order to import the CD into my itunes library (which i have on my OSX side).  When running OSX, everytime I try to load any CD or DVD, the drive shoots the disc right out.  Any ideas?  Thanks in advance.

  • CDs will not load

The slot drive on my iMac Intel running OS10.6.8 rejects CDs with data on them, but accepts DVDs and blank CD-Rs. So the setup CD for my new Canon printer (which is accepted by my iBook) cannot be entered into the computer. Can anyone advise me what if anything can be done about this?

  • My CDs will not load.  They only pop out.

This is a new problem.  I try to inject a CD and it will only bounce back out.  Any suggestions?

Just to add my thoughts about the install disks:
All Macs did come with install disks in the box (except for the brand new Macs with Lion pre-installed) and, you may need them at some point to reinstall, run AHT (hardware test), or simply wipe and install in order to sell it. So, aside from what you decide on re. your media drive, I'd call Apple and ask for replacement disks - you'll need to give them your serial number and they'll send you disks for a nominal charge.
My suggestion re. the drive: buy an external - less finicky and probably less expensive.

  • MacBook Pro will not load start up properly

My MacBook Pro 2012 will not load properly after I took it to the apple store and they ran test on it. When I boot it up I get the gray screen with the loading bar. I can get into disk utility. However I don't believe they messed with anything and it was wirking fine in the store

  • My Macbook Pro will not load past grey Apple screen...

Last night my Macbook Pro froze so I closed it and went to bed. Today when I opened it, it was still frozen, so I held down the power button and rebooted it. It got as far as the grey Apple screen with the spinning wheel and will not load any further than that. I've rebooted a couple times since and it continues to do the same thing, stays on the grey screen forever.
I searched this problem on the Apple Support Communitites and none of suggestions (holding Shift after the startup tone, holding Command+R) have worked so far. Is there any way to fix this problem without losing my data or having to pay to talk to Apple Support? PLEASE HELP! :(

Then we can't help you as we need you to be able to help yourself and the instructions are complicated and long to paste here over and over again for the same proceedure.
Hire the services of a local Mac computer repair before you delete your data by accident.
You can jump down and do #8, that might clear the issue right away, but some programs are not going to work and require updating or reinstalling again.

  • My MacBook Pro will not load

My MacBook Pro will not load.  I get the white screen with spinning rainbow for several minutes. Once I get the log-in screen it takes several more minutes of the galaxy screen before anything happens. When I am finally able to click the mouse on an application, I get the spinning thing again and nothing loads. The only thing I can do is turn the computer off by holding down the power button.

You might have an older model that came with disks. In that case, put the disk in and boot while holding down the C key. Run Disk Utility from there.

  • My Macbook will not load

My macbook will not load once it opens. The main screen will open, however when I load any program or file it stalls and stays that way, well forever, until the battery dies.

Keep your Mac connected to a wall outlet so the battery won't discharge until it's 0%.

My MacBook Pro (OS 10.7.2) will not load some sellers websites that bounce through yahoo.  Other Macs on same network work fine.  I have reset Safari, tried other browsers, eliminated cookies..... to no avail.  All computers running 10.7.2.  I have reset Safari, tried other browsers, trashed out cookies.  This has me baffled.  My other macs running the same OS version work fine.  Flash is up to date and have done the current software update.  Any help please.  I have not blocked any sites and am administator for all machines.  I have tried signing in as Guest.  Nothing works.

After searching other users questions with related problem, I found that VirusBarrier 6 was the issue.  Reconfigured settings there and problem solved.

Try booting in Safe Mode by holding your Shift key down when booting. Also, try holding the eject key down when booting to eject the DVD. If you plug a mouse in and hold the clicker down when booting, that should eject the DVD.
