CDs will only burn 50 minutes

Even though CDs show successful burning, they quit playing properly at about the 50-52 minute mark when I play them in any CD player. This happened with my previous operating system, and now with 10.5.5 as well. It's not bad CDs -- this has been happening for some time. Any ideas?

If the burn speed is set to "Best" try x8

  • IDVD will only burn to 16X discs and not 8X

I replaced my original superdrive with a pioneer DVR-100 because it can burn at 16X speed and dual layer. Now, iDVD will only burn to 16X discs. When I try to use 8X discs I get an error message. iDVD will begin to write, the disc will spin up twice, then the disc is ejected. The really annoying thing is that it makes those discs unusable.
Any ideas how to fix this.

    What brand DVD-R?
I burn Verbatim DVD-R 16X at 4X all the time using a disk image and Toast (or Disk Utility). Try Verbatim. I use other brands too. In both of my "SuperDrives."
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD 5 project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • My superdrive will only burn audio cd's up to 8x for some reason...

I'm a college student, and I burn a lot of audio CDs to listen to in my car, and from what I recall, usually my burn speeds are around 24x. I tried burning a CD today and Toast only gave me options up to 8x burning speed. It actually burned the disc fine and everything, it's just that I can't figure out why all of the sudden my speed options have been reduced so low.

Are you using the same blank CDs that you recorded at 24x on? CD/DVD media are rated at certain speeds. If the CD/DVD media is only rated at 8X, it will not burn faster than that. Also, DVD and CD speeds are not the same thing. Was it a DVD that you were burning in Toast or a CD?

  • Encore CS5 will Only Burn One DVD At A Time

Hello All , I am having a problem that I didn't have with CS4 ,If I set CS5 to burn more than one DVD it shows a hardware error after the first one , If I set CS5 to burn one DVD it works every time I only burn at 8X .This is not a major problem because it doesn't take much longer to burn them one at a time
but it would be nice to know why .
    Regards
    Kevin

Thank's for your suggestion but I have always set CS4 to burn say 10 DVDs and just change the media when prompted (only 10 days ago) in CS5 this doesn't work only the first one will burn , I am sure there is nothing wrong with my hardware is works flawlessly with all other software.

  • Will only allow one minute of footage in my final project?

Hey! So I am a new user, but I began adding footage to my project, but it will only allow me to have one minute of footage. It will not let me add more. How do I fix this? Is there a limit set somewhere? If so, how do I change it? I don't know what to do! Please help, I'm kind of technically ********. Thank you!

your source of video is a camcorder?
    (I doubt that )
or do you try to edit .wmv files?
if so, for wmv you did install a plugin (flip4mac), which allows in its free trial only 60sec.
purchase a licence, and your Mac handles this proprietary Microsoft format.
or, you're not familiar with the skimmer, yellow borders etc

  • Burner will only burn DVD RW all of a sudden???

Sorry in advance about the long message
    I have a satellite U205 S5002 which i got used 3 months ago
when i first got it i installed vista and everything was ok.( hardware-mat**bleep**a dvd-ram uj-842s ATA device)
then a week ago, i bought a new pack of dvd-r-until then i had used diff brands of dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw and they all worked. I dont know if it matters but the new pack was Imation and couldn't burn on any of them. Since then i have reinstalled vista twice, and haven't installed any programs besides win avi and nero.
When I last installed vista a couple of days ago, it let me burn 5 dvd-r and then nothing with win avi. Nero would only burn only dvd rw and everytime i tried a dvd-r it said it couldn't start disc at once.
Today i bought a new pack of the same dvd-rw it let me use last time and nero burned 1 and then kept telling me there was a track error. Win avi burned 1 and then when i tried a 2nd wouldn't do anything and then i installed convertX to dvd and it did the same as win avi.
It still burns cd-r's(they are the only one's i can burn with the vista built in software)
I just checked device manager and clicked on properties for the dvd drive, and in the details tab under value it says CD-ROM drive(dont know if that matters but i thought I'd mention it)
I have asked a couple of computer techs in my area and they had no idea what could be wrong
Thanks in advance for any help

    hi Evan!
it's unusual that this started out of the blue ... did you install/uninstall/upgrade any hardware or software just before this started happening to you?
here's some standard resources for dealing with this sort of thing (but the sudden onset makes me wonder if something else is afoot):

  • Burning error, can only burn 3 minutes of video on disk.

I have wasted 6 disks by now. The burning ends much earlier than normal, then got a message saying burning/? ( sorry can't remmber) error.
The disk still can be played but it contains only 2'50-3'00 of video. Tried other projects, same results.
I got this problem after burning a few photo CDs, does this matter?
Also from the very beginning of my experience with iDVD, I have been having a problem with audio encodeing, many times the programmes just stopped when encoding audio and I had to force quit. But next time it may go through without any trouble, I mean the same imovie project. Confused!
    Many thanks.

  • Itunes only burns 40 minutes on an 80min cd?

I'm having trouble getting Itunes to burn a full cd. I make a playlist that is 50-79 minutes long and the cd appears to burn correctly, i.e. no error messages, etc. cd says it's complete. I put it in my cd player and at the 40 minute mark, it just ends and goes back to track 1. I have never had this problems with any other cd in any player, only the ones burned using itunes with songs only purchased through the itunes store. anyone else having this problem? is there something i need to change the settings on? PLEASE REPLY! I've wasted far too many cd's to continue on like this. the interactive faq and troubleshooting has nothing on this.

iTunes tends to be more picky on windows than other programs that burn CDs on a PC. The 3 main fixes for any iTunes burning issues/problems are
    1) Updating the CD burners firmware and the PCs chipsets, BIOS ect ect, basicly any updates/patches offered on the PC makers web site for your model.
    2) Slowing the burn speed in iTunes by going to edit>preferences>advanced tab>burning sub tab. Usually slowing it from "Max" to a speed like 8x or 4x does the trick
    3) Using a different brand of blank CDs. Not all blank CD's are make from the same material, and not all burners read them the same.
Another thing you can do is goto Help>run CD Diagnostic and copy/paste the whole resulting report here so we can see what error if any your getting and overlook your setup for anything wrong

  • CDs will not burn in iTunes

When ever i try to burn a cd it will start but then suddenly stop. A window will pop up saying that the laser power is no strong enough or something. Is this i problem with the cd drive itself or the cds because i tried using two different cds and it did the same thing!

Try from the finder (no app, OS only). Put a blank disk in the burner. Wait for the disk icon to show up. Drag any document to the icon and then look for the burn button.
Much of the physical appearance is customized so I can't tell you exactly where to look for things. If you have difficulty, post back and I'll try to work it out for you.

  • CDs will not burn.

I have installed itunes 8.1 and verytime I try to burn a CD from itunes the message comes up "Do not detect burner or software". I Know it reads it because when I put a blank CD in it asks me if I want to burn a Play list. The burner works on every other application other than itunes.

I had same prob...Here's what worked for me.
Double click the 'Safely remove hardware' icon and stop your CD/DVD drive.
Physically remove drive and shutdown Windows by choosing shutdown.
    Before rebooting, reinstall the drive.
That should do it...and oh, make sure you're not trying to burn past the disk capacity...if you do the iTunes burn will exit with 'unknown error'...
    Good luck!

  • Encore CS3 will only burn in Admin

We use Encore CS3 in a domain. Our power user accounts can not burn a disc. Encore works fine when logged in as an admin on or off the domain. Is there a work around other than the shift>right click>admin acct fix?
    Thanks

Is there any other way to do this? Just running as Administrator and thus opening up every computer that needs to use Encore to the threats involved does not seem like a good solution.

  • DVD SP will only burn 1 file out of 3

    Hello there --
I'm trying to use DVD SP to burn a dmg (then iso) file (because my burner died it seems), to be burnt on a pc later.
My problem is that the dmg file won't work (itself or converted to .iso).
I'm importing m2v/ac3 twin files, which play back fine in DVD SP itself (and elsewhere). It simulates ok too, but when I burn the file, it weighs 1,07 Gig, which is less than the total of the three clips I'm trying to burn, which amount to about 2 Gigs.
And in the VIDEO_TS folder, I can find the menu .VOB file, the first clip, but all other files are all 158 Kb empty files.
The first file (which seems to burn ok) is 16:9, the two others are 4:3.
Any suggestion, or things to look up or try?
    Thanks!
    DVD SP : 4.2.2
    Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 Dual-Core Xeon / 14 Gig
    10.6.8

I am not understanding your workflow and where what elements are coming from.
To my knowledge you cannot burn a dmg out of DSP. You can export an img. If you are opening a dmg and then using those elements to create a DVD then there may be a problem with some of the elements.
If the DVD simulates fine than build it to your desktop in a new folder.  Open the Video_TS in the Mac DVD player application and confirm all is well. If it doesn't play right than there are issues with your files in DSP.
You should be able to take the folder of build files to a PC or Mac(with the proper software) and burn a DVD in Nero or just about any other program.
You can have a DVD with mixed tracks(some 16:9 & some 4x3). If DSP is making the tracks 4x3 when added then somehow that info is being associated with the file in the workflow.
Need more info to be of more assistance.

I'm having this problem with a couple videos I'm trying to import. I simply drag and drop my videos and it seem's to work fine for most, but I have this one video that's 11minutes long, and Itunes will only import 1 minute of the entire video. Anyone have any idea why it's only importing a small amount of any of my videos?

This sounds like what I need, unfortunately, when I click on file, consolidate files isn't an option...
