CDs won't load or play

MacBook Pro...been using it to download audiobooks with no problems. Today went to insert CD in to drive and it won't load up. Tried a few that I have used in there before, same thing. CD sits in there. I hear one noise like it's going to load, then it kicks it out. ??????

Is your DVD drive being recognized in the system profiler?
You can run a AHT (Apple Hsrdware Test) newer Mac's by rebooting holding the D key.
For Intel-based Apple computers shipping with Mac OS X v10.5.5 or later, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer.

I have been using my apple TV seamlessly with all my apple products (Mac Mini, iphone, MBP, ipad). Everything worked perfectly until recently (I noticed the issue about 3 weeks ago), when the apple TV won't load and play any movies from my iTunes library located on my MBP. The Library loads, and I can see everything, but as soon as I press play, the spinning load icon appears and doesn't stop. Same when I play movie from itunes directly and send it via airplay. Desktop mirroring no problem.
I have checked, and films are being played perfectly from my other devices, as does airplay and mirroring

8. Cannot access my library when my computer is asleep
For Apple TV to access your library while the host computer is asleep, "Wake for network access" must be turned on.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and select (enable) the "Wake for network access" option.
In addition, the network that the host computer and the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) is connected to must support Wake on Demand feature. This works by partnering with a service running on your AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule called Bonjour Sleep Proxy.

My file .mov won't load (or) play when put on the server ? Yet it works fine in my local network.
The source in DW is = vid.jpeg and the link = vid.mov
I opened the movie in QuickTime player and save it for the web. I pasted what was required...
Can someone help me with this one ?

ITunes won't load or play my redeemed movie :/

So I bought a movie the other day (not in the itunes store) but in person and I used the digital copy code method and when I put it on itunes. It won't play at all. The weird thing is when I put it on my iphone it plays fine but on itunes on my computer it won't. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. Can anyone help? I even updated itunes and still no changes at all. Everytime I hit play or click it to play its either the screen goes black and doesnt play or it goes black and gives me the loading screen without doing anything? Any help would be great

Dvd player has dvd in it but will only eject about 1/4 inch and won't load or play

I [put a dvd in sony player and it says loading on the screen for about 30 seconds and the it says insert disc but the disc won't eject and only about a 1/4 inch of the tray ejects and then quickly retracts! I've done all the suggestions on line for unlocking a disc but they don't work. Help anyone?

Adobe TV videos won't load or play on iMac

When I try to launch an Adobe TV video, where it should be, the page is just blank white. I can play videos with no problems on other sites. I can play .flv, .mp4, .mov movies on other sites and off the hard drive. It's just Adobe TV that isn't working. Is the Adobe TV site experiencing problems, or is my iMac? I've had the problem for 2 1/2 weeks now.
I'm using an iMac Intel Core Duo running OS 10.6.4. I've tried repeatedly using Safari 5.0.1 and Firefox 3.6.8.
The Flash Plug-in is Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82; there's also a Adobe Shockwave for Director Netscape plug-in, version 11.5.7 — from file “DirectorShockwave.plugin” (I don't use Netscape any more—should I delete this?)

I found the problem!!! I had to change Flash Player's Global Security Settings to "Allow third-party Flash content to store data on your computer." I didn't want to have that enabled, but Adobe TV videos apparently won't play without it. To access these settings right-click (Mac Cntrl-click) on the flash item and choose "Global Settings."

CDs won't load

I'm having a continual problem when I insert a CD. Audio CDs work fine, but if I try to install a game for example, it doesn't show signs of loading. There's no icon on my desktop or in Finder. It just makes a whirring sound and goes quiet. Recently I discovered that the Disk Utility is able to eject them, but beforehand I had to manually eject while rebooting. I'm having this problem yet again with a game I just bought.
So what's causing this, and what can I do about it?

and welcome to the forum.
I have no experience with cd for games, but i guess, they should work (if they are for OSX at least). Thus, if they don't work, i would suspect either that the cd is not correct, or the optical drive has a problem.
can the cd's be read on another (mac)computer? you could also try to connect an external reader (via usb) and see if it works. Once more, if the cd is for OSX, and in good shape, it should show up on your desktop and open normally. if not, it's either not for OSX, or not a good cd, or the optical drive has problems.

Toshiba Application Installer/Recovery CDs won't load

I have a Tecra A9, WinXP SP3. Recently, I tried to restore my video driver by running Toshiba Application Installer, and got the following error message: "This Recovery and Applications CD is not designed to work with this machine (Portable PC). This CD is for: TECRA A9." When I tried to run the Application Recovery CDs, I got the same error message. I checked the registry, and the only mention of the string "Portable PC" was in My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TOSHIBA\SWTOS", under the key "PN". I tried changing it to "TECRA A9", but it had no effect, even after a reboot.
I called Toshiba Technical Support, and the technician was not helpful. His brilliant suggestion was to restore the machine to its state as of a few weeks before. By some miracle, I happened to have a drive image from a few weeks ago, so I backed up my mail and documents and restored the disk from the image. That did nothing. I'm still locked out of my restore disks.
Now, you may ask, why not simply get the old software from the web? Because I don't know my model number. I posted about this in the forums, a couple of months ago, and got some very helpful suggestions from the regulars here, but I don't know for sure. And that technician would not tell me what my model number was. He had my serial number and part number, and he would not tell me.
So, any suggestions as to how to get into either the Application Installer or the Recovery CDs would be most welcome.
I must add that, after my support experience, I am never buying a Toshiba again. I paid good money for a 3-year service contract, and have repeatedly found that the interest of these outsourced support personnel is in getting me off the phone as quickly as possible, not in solving my problems.

What Jerry posted before is correct. Just use the Link for the one with XP and download those drivers.

The tech on the phone couldn't give you a S#### number if your computer doesn't have one. And I assume you have looked at the label on the bottom to see if there is one.
But as Jerry said, the first part of the part number models all use the same drivers.

Videos on website won't load/play immediately

hello everyone,
i've been trying to find an answer for a week now but without much luck.
using adobe flash catalyst, i recently created a website with 20 uploaded videos (FLV format; ranging from 2mb ~ 40mb each) and when you click onto any one of them, they will load and play. but here's the problem - they won't play immediately (won't load and play at the same time, WHILE being downloaded in the background - unlike youtube), and most of the time when you click on a video, you'll have to wait (the loading bar won't even start downloading until a good 20-30 seconds after clicking play) while some videos load and play immediately.
my question is, what do i need to do so my videos will load/play almost immediately after clicking play, while simutaneously being downloaded in the background? is there a way to preload my videos?
i understand i'll need flash builder to code all this?
i'm new to making websites and i would appreciate all the help given.

Drat! You might try looking through the Flash Builder forums to see if they might have a video playback tips. There might some property that Flash Catalyst is not exposing or something in the app itself that needs to be changed.
If you have Flash Professional, you could try creating a simple FLV player using it and see what the performance is like from the server.

I downloaded movies that won't load and I can't re download help

I downloaded 3 movies for a flight. Downloaded them the night before. Paid for wifi logged on to iTunes. The movies moved from downloads to video folder. Videos won't load to play and I can't re download. Any suggestions?

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

MBPro won't load some CDs

13" mid-2010. 2.66 GHz; 8 GB RAM
The CDs do play on my car's stock CD player. This happens with some shrink-wrapped CDs straight from a store, and some CDs borrowed from the library. Entirely unpredictable as to which ones will fail.
What's the likely source of my problem? Is it the drive? If so, can it be fixed? Is there a treatment I should apply to the CD if it won't load?

I would make certain that the lens is clean on the DVD drive, Use a lens cleaning disk or wrap a fine microfiber cloth (eye glasses cleaning cloth) around a business card and insert it gently into the slot.

In order to load games on Facebook you need to set the Flash plugin to allow third-party content
1. Go to the Flash player Global Storage Settings panel.

HT1473 It seems like many commercial music CDs won't import into iTunes (copy protection?), so you can only play them from the disc, not your other devices. Am I missing something?

More and more commercial music CDs won't seem to import into iTunes - they just spin, falter, and spit out. I would think I had a setting wrong except older CDs load with no problem. I'm guessing there's copy protection on the newer ones, which seems unfair if you want to, say, buy a CD that has bonus material not available via iTunes (and then have to buy the regular material again on iTunes). Is there a way around this? An easy fix so I can keep buying CDs when I want to? I know it's a technology that's on the way out, but it's not gone yet.

Audio CD copy protection is relatively rare. I doubt its use is on the increase as it would be just one more nail in CD's coffin. On the few occasions I've bought CDs that won't rip I've gone straight back to the store for a refund. If the drive is attempting to read at max. speed it might help to force it to read slower (if indeed you have that as an option) and it may help to switch the error correction mode.
