CE portal vs regular portal

Hi,
CE 7.1 comes with a simplified portal. The CE portal cannot be used as the main portal, a FPN has to be set up between the main 7.0 and the CE 7.1 portal. This makes sense now, when 7.1 runs on JEE5, but when there will be a generally available EP 7.1 (running on JEE5), can we then run the composite applications on the main portal and not on the CE portal? Does anybody know what is SAP's strategy in this matter? I know the vision about Continuos Innovation and Accelerated Innovation, but still, have one portal would help the customers.
I am interested in your views.
Regards.
Tamas

Hi Niki,
Are you talking about difference between portal and Web BEx, see the following thread if yes:
/thread/30673 [original link is broken]
Otherwise if you are looking for differences between portal and Web (Web as in World Wide Web), then I guess you understand what Web is. For understanding portal see the following links:
Have a look at the following threads to have an introduction to portal:

For kick start in portal, the following Wiki link is enough:

  • Access BI Portal thru Enterprise Portal

    Hi,
I have created a web page on my intranet with direct http links to my BI Reports that go through our Enterprise Portal for Single Signon reasons.  I would like to create a single link on my intranet that would present the BI Portal directly.  The link should go through the Enterprise Portal like the reports links do
Here's an example of my report link.
    https://<server>:<port>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.pagebuilder.IviewModeProxy?iview_id=gp%3A<consumer alias>/pcd%3Aportal_content/content_folder/bi_folder/bi_projects_folder/ZDWNBI/ZDW_IVIEWS/<Report ID>
Is there anyway to create a direct link to my BI Portal going through my Enterprise Portal?
    Thanks, Ken Murray

    Hi Kenneth,
You can configure SSO between EP ("regular") portal to the BI portal.
    1) Export the the EP6 certificate and import it to the BI portal.
    2) Add the EP6 to the ACL of the BI portal.
    3) Create html iview in EP6 the points the report in the BI portal (no logon screen should appear...)
    see: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/62/c0503e1dac5b46e10000000a114084/frameset.htm
This is very similar to configuring the BI portal to accept ticket from BW application server.

  • BI portal VS  SAP portal

    Hello,
We are thinking about implementing the BI 7.0 and publishing some reports with it in Portal. Question is should we use the BI portal or SAP EP portal?  We are already having SAP EP 7.0 installed and BI portal (with BI) is also installed.
For performance reason -- we should use the BI portal for report  and links these reports  in main SAP portal so user has one single point of to see the report from SAP EP.
My thoughts on performance on single source of (main) portal for BI and all the other stuff on main Portal  should not be an issue because all the work for querying the reports will be done in BI server, Portal is only show the reports ? is this assumption is correct?
If we have two portal, as system admin we have to maintain two different portals,
What be the best approach (pro and cons) using the BI Portal VS SAP Portal?
    Please advice.

  • SSO between Portal Application and Portal Admin Tool

    Hi All,
We have a requirement for implementing SSO between a Portal application and
    Portal admin tool.
We are using WL Portal 8.1 SP4.
Here is the reason for this requirement -
A user logged-into Portal Application needs to login to Portal Admin tool to
do some admin activity. We want to provide a link in the portal application
using which the user can directly login to the Portal Admin tool without
having to enter the credentials again.
If someone has any info on how to implement this, can you please point me in
    the right direction.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
When creating PP you have 2 options
PP used for compiling and PP used for Building
You create PP with all the libraries into Developing/Compiling Other DCs
And another PP with all the libraries into can be packaged into other build results (SDAs).
Once you have these 2 PP in place you add the DC as used DC.
And this should resolve the issue.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers-

  • WebLogic Portal vs Oracle Portal

Anyone know the differences in term of features of WebLogic Portal and Oracle Portal?
    i) WebLogic Portal supports Web 2.0 while Oracle Portal doesn't?
ii) Oracle Portal provides SSO to oracle applications while WebLogic Portal doesn't?
    Any other different features?
    Please advise, thanks.

There are lots of differences, but I think you should post your question in the WebCenter and Web 2.0 Technology forum with some additional detail as to why you are asking:
    WebCenter Portal
For example, are you making a technology choice for a particular project? What portal requirements do you have? What are the skillsets of those who will be implementing, etc.
The long term strategy is to converge on the WebCenter product, but there are nuances that may make other portal products a better fit in the short-term.

  • Difference between portal component and portal service?

    Hi I am kishore...
I worked on portal components but not on portal services... Would anybody tell the difference between the portal components and portal services...? What is a portal service..?
How we know which one to choose in the scenario.?
        Thanks in adavance

    Hi kishore,
A portal component is custom Java code that is executed according to user requests, and generates HTML output for display on the client.
    Portal components:
    Page builder, which assembles pages
Admin tools, such as logger, which is comprised of user interface messages.
    Pages
Technically, the page is also an iView. A page includes iViews or pages (nested) and Layout components
    iViews
There are two different isolation levels (iView types)
Embedded: iViews’ html is embedded as part of page html. iViews are called synchronically on the server, and retrieved in one response, to  the client (this is the page response)..  Each iView reloading reloads all iViews on page.
URL (Isolated): iViews are fetched by an IFRAME element in an “own” request. One response for the page followed by additional request-response for each iView (depending on browser 2-4 requests simultaneously).
    Portal Services:
A portal service is a component that offers a globally accessible function in the portal.
A portal service act as the middleware, that is, interfaces that are enabled to exchange procedures and data. They offer functionality to portal components, and other services.
There are two groups of portal services:
Portal services (part of the PRT)
    Caching
    Notification
    iView service
    Application Repository
    System Landscape
    Role, pages, worksets
    Web Services
    Unification service
Portal services (external to the PRT)
    Client Eventing
    URL generator
    Logger
    JCO client service
    Hope this helps.

  • Calling a abstract portal component from portal service

    Hi
Can i access a abstract portal component from portal service?
My requirement is i have a method called getsessionID in portal service. My portal service is enabled as a webservice. Who ever consumes my webservice they will call this method.
This method in portal service should call a method in abstract portal component to return the session id of the user.
    is this possible.
    Thanks in advance
    Kishore

    Hi Kishore,
This is impossible. The AbstractPortalComponent is a servlet and it can only be executed via URL. It is easy to execute the component via url but you have to pass the logon information. Also it will run under a user context that you have specified(while passing the logon information) when calling the url. I think you ought to consider a different approach.

  • How to create the Portal Service in Portal 7.3,

    Dear Experts,
how to create the Portal Service in Portal 7.3, as we create in Portal 7.0 by creating the Portal Project in that we create Portal Service and we can start and stop in Portal Service configuration in System Administration
    Thanks,
    Sagar Pande

    Hi Sagar,
    Procedure
      1.  Open the SAP NetWeaver Administrator by either of the following methods:
           a. Use the URL to your AS Java (hostname:port) to access the AS Java home page and use the link to SAP NetWeaver Administrator.
           b. Alternatively, add nwa to the AS Java URL to access SAP NetWeaver Administrator directly. (hostname:port/nwa).
2  Go to   Operations Management   Systems   and click the Start & Stop link.
The Start & Stop: Java EE Instances window opens.
3  Click the Java EE Application bar and select the relevant application in the Application List.
The Portal Services pane displays the services associated with the selected application.
4  Use the buttons Start Service or Stop Service.

  • Change the name from Portal Favorites to Portal Favourites

    Hi,
There is a requirement that where ever in Portal, the name of Portal Favorites should be changed to Portal Favourites.
So when I add something to Portal Favorites in Portal, then there we get Organize Entries in the context menu and opening this it will open a pop-up having name as Favorites.
I searched and come to know that this is coming from a folder under KM Content /userhome/<portal-userid>/Favorites.
If I changes the name Favorites to Favourites then it reflects to that corresponding id, but changing from here for every portal-userid will be very difficult.
Can someone tell how we can change on global basis for every portal user.
    Regards,
    Deep Nain Kundra

    Hi there,
The iView called "Favorites" in Content Provided by SAP > End User Content > Standard Portal Users > iViews > com.sap.km.iviews points to a KM folder which you can find in Content Administration > KM Content > root > Entry Points > Favorites. You can change the name of this folder: with Entry Points > Favorites selected choose Folder > Details and then Settings > Properties, set the name to whatever you like and click Save.
Now this isn't 100% effective but if a user accesses the Organize Entries command from the Favorites context menu, they will now see your custom folder name. A preview of the iView will show the same.
What this doesn't do is change the name of the Entry Point, so a user looking under Documents will still see the heading "Favorites". According to SAP Help this can be changed by creating a custom bundle file, but despite following the steps detailed in [Changing Labels and Symbols for Entry Points|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/36/8b6b4066d9bf49e10000000a1550b0/content.htm] I have not had success with this.
