Cel phone fax

Howdee all.
I have an HP7750, all in one, and due to the local economy, I've canceled home phone service, leaving me with no more fax.
I've recently purchased a Windows Phone 7, Trophy, by HTC.
As this printer has wireless capability, and I have a wireless network set up, and the cel phone is connected to the wireless network, I'm curious if it'd be possible to interface the printer with the phone.
I know there are internet based fax services-- most of which charge for their service.
anyone ever do anything with this?
All I need is to do is to figure out how to connect/interface the phone with the printer.
TYIA.
Best.

If you can't wait for the femtocell (there's will be called Microcell), you can see cellular amplifiers here ...
http://www.powerfulsignal.com/KitsBuilding/Cellular-Amplifiers-Desktop-Kits.html
That's the one I use. I have only about 1 bar of service outside my house, and next to nothing inside. With this, I get 5 bars, but only within a couple of feet of the inside antenna. The stronger the outside signal, the stronger the inside will be. Look around, or give them a call. But they're pricey.

  • Fax using cell phone instead of landline

I've been all over the web trying to find out if this can be done. I did find a KBase doc that supports how to set up a bluetooth modem for faxing. But I could not get that to work. Anyone know how to set up a cell phone as a modem and use for sending faxes? I no longer have a land line and can't figure out why one wouldn't be able to use the cell for the analog line.
If anyone knows ANYTHING, please let me know. (3rd party software, tricks for Blackberry Pearl, T-Mobile restrictions, setting up to use the phone via USB and not bluetooth, etc)
Thank you so much! I'm sick of paying $20 a month for efax.com when I only need to send 1 or 2 pages per month.

  • Airport Express & Wireless WIFI device from cell phone carrier

I am trying to understand the functions and purpose of this airport things!
Can airport express be used with my wifi mobile broadband device from local cell phone carrier?
The main reason I am thinking about this purchase is to add 2 printers to be able to print to from my MACBOOK.
I am also looking to expand anything else I can with this airport thing?
Forgive the lack of understanding and thank you in advance !

    Welcome to the discussions!
+Can airport express be used with my wifi mobile broadband device from local cell phone carrier?+
The AirPort Express can "join" a wireless network as a client and providing that your printers are compatible, you should be able to print to them. Not all printers are compatible and if you have an all-in-one device, only the print function will work. Fax, scan, copy, maintenance, etc will not work when the device is attached to the AirPort Express USB port.
If you want to connect more than one printer to the AirPort Express, you will need a powered USB hub.
The AirPort Express will not be able to "extend" your wireless network. In other words, it will not do anything to boost your wireless signal.
I would advise you to make sure that you understand the store's return policy in case things do not work out as you hope.

  • Is there any way to contact verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?

Is there any way to contact Verizon with a detailed cell phone technical support question?  I prefer e-mail so as to provide details (like I am trying to provide here).  I have tried in-store personnel (no help at all) and the web chat - they just want to see me more data instead of helping me with my basic problem!
I CAN NOT GET ANYONE FROM VERIZON TO GIVE ME ANY HELP NOR CAN I FIND A WAY TO FILE A COMPLAINT.  AT THIS POINT I JUST WANT TO DROP MY VERIZON ACCOUNT BUT I'M SURE THAT IT WILL COST ME A SMALL FORTUNE TO GET OUT OF IT.
    Here is my issue:
Chat transcript removed as required by the Verizon Wireless Terms of Service
BELOW IS A SCREEN COPY FROM REDDIT ABOUT SOMEONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A VERIZON CELL PHONE
So last night my RAZR MAXX HD did something totally bewildering by spontaneously downloading 2.6 GB of data over the course of ~ 3 hours. Fortunately I was able to catch this problem before it ended up being really expensive, but I still exceeded my 2 GB data plan by 600MB.
    The Culprits:
Reddit News Free: 160 MB foreground / 0.96 GB background
Android OS: 0 MB foreground / 1.18 GB background
Several unnamed applications: ~ 350 MB
    Screenshots:
    The massive data spike
    Android OS data usage
    Reddit News Free data usage
    Weird unnamed processes
    Detailed timeline:
5:12 PM: Incident begins according to VZW data usage website (2.60410 GB used). This is around the last time that I used my phone at the laundromat before getting dinner and watching Game of Thrones.
8:04 PM: 50% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:31 PM: 75% of data allowance used (txt msg)
8:58 PM: 90% of data allowance used (txt msg)
9:13 PM: 100% of data allowance used (txt msg)
10:05 PM: Got the text messages and immediately put the phone into airplane mode
    10:30 PM: Took screenshots
10:45 PM: Enabled wifi, installed Kaspersky premium. Scan returned no threats.
11:00 PM: Left phone in airplane mode, went to sleep.
    The questions:
What was the root cause of this issue? Did Reddit News freak out as a result of an esoteric bug or was my phone hacked?
If this was a simple Reddit News bug, then why was the Android OS also trying to use such a massive amount of background data?
What the hell are these unnamed numeric applications? I've inspected my process history and this is the first time they have ever attempted to use data.
I'm pretty sure that I can explain this situation to Verizon and get out of having to pay additional data usage fees, but I would like to know more about the problem before I get in touch with them.

All I can think is your phone may have background downloaded an OTA update, and you'd then be prompted with something like, "As update to your Android system has been downloaded, would you like to install it now?"
I do find it very odd that the update would be 2.6GB. As a rough base, the CyanogenMod 10.1 firmware for your device is well under 200MB, so unless Verizon has a ****-ton of bloatware in the update, or it had to attempt to download multiple times for some reason, it may be a stretch.
But doing a little homework, it looks like the Verizon Razr Maxx was updated to 4.1 in late March. Maybe they're still rolling it out in waves? Have you gotten the update yet?
Edit: Aaaand I just noticed you appear to be running an AOSP-based ROM, which totally rules out a carrier update being sent out.
Edit2: If you want to live dangerously, you could try running:
    #kill -9 12289
That 12289 is the PID listed in your screenshot. But don't run that without fulling understanding the kill command.
The ps command could also be of use, but probably not.

I can confirm that the phone is currently at 4.1.2 and that I wasn't prompted for an OTA update. The fact that both the Android OS and Reddit News processes were simultaneously using an extremely large amount of data is unlikely to be a coincidence...

That is very curious that the spikes happened at the same time.I'm curious. It may have put at least some of that 2.6GB somewhere. You could use a data visualizer tool to see if you can find it, which may lead to more clues.

    The largest directories are:
DCIM: Normal looking photos (90,825 KB)
Android: Primarily map cache data (64,846 KB)
If it was downloading content then it did not significantly save content to storage. It's not like I have anything particularly sensitive on the phone, but the idea that it was uploading a snapshot of my data definitely makes me uncomfortable.

Yup, Digital Camera IMages and videos.Somewhere in /sdcard/Android would be my guess as to where a mysterious file would be downloaded, but if it's only 64MB, and mostly map data, I'd safely rule it out.I'm sorry, but I'm stumped here.Edit: I should mention I don't think this is malware, because unless a malicious app gained superuser access, any data it used would show under it's own apk in the data usage list, not Android OS.

Although I'm not really up to speed with the Android platform, I come from a UNIX background so I feel comfortable running commands. How do I pull up a bash terminal? Do I need to root the phone first?

There's a number of terminal emulators in the Play Store that work well. You don't need a rooted phone to get to the shell as your user, but any privileged command won't execute unless you can grant it permission from the Superuser app that is installed when you root the device. So you could probably do a ps -e, but not a kill -9.

Got it. I downloaded a terminal emulator but unfortunately those processes no longer exist.Does Android keep a generic log of system level events like /var/log/syslog?

I don't think so, and I know you'd need superuser permission to read most of the files in /var/log anyway. I'm not super familiar with how Android does its logging, but I do know that the two files of interest are the logcat and dmesg.

Want to mention here that using your settings to set your data cap (set it on your billing day), then you won't go over again. Those text messages are really unhelpful, as they send out well after the data has been used. Chances are good you hit close to the 2GB mark before you received the bulk of the messages.

That's definitely not the case here; both my PC and and Android phone are free from pirated apps.

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

So i want to know that can i have a new cell phone on replace of this one at any nearby of my house App store without any cost  ?
But i'm not having any line yet on my phone i use it on net mostly so what is the scene can i have or can't ??
    please inform me soon !

Is your phone still covered by warranty?  If so, go to your nearest Apple store and depending on what happened, this may or may not be covered by warranty.  If it is, then you can get a replacement exactly as the phone you already have.
If out of warranty, then there is nothing you can do and you'll have to pay.

have been a Verizon customer since I got my first cell phone in my 30's - I am 50 now! A year ago, I stupidly opted to get a new phone on the EDGE program because I was trying my first Samsung device and was not sure I would like it having been an IPhone user for years.I was right! Or so I thought.... The Note 3 has been horrible. I am on my second phone(replaced it under warranty) and it still freezes, shuts off on its own, and will not come back on for long periods of time. Having had enough, I decided to EDGE Up to another device. On March 16th I tried to edge up my device online but was unable to. I immediately called to figure out what the problem was. Back in October I had a mix up in my billing where I had set up a payment. It was not done properly by customer service and as a result my line was cut off. I called the EXACT day it went off, filed a complaint about the lack of follow through for my arranged payment, and thought I had it straightened out as the payment was made that same day. That incident, although it was a Verizon error, caused my Edge Contract to be "hotlined". I spent an hour on the phone on March 16th clearing the whole mess up. When the conversation ended, the Verizon representative admitted it was a Verizon error, documented everything, and then told me she was filing a release for the hotline hold that would take a couple of days. Her name was Linda and I stupidly trusted what she said.
The days passed as I prepared to have a major foot surgery and to get my classroom straight before I would be out recovering for 3 weeks. All the time, my Samsung continued to glitch out like it has since I got it! While sitting on the couch recovering, I decided to deal with the phone issue again and EDGE UP. I figured 10 days latter, Linda would have taken care of the issue. Unfortunately, I faced the same problem and was told it was not eligible to edge up at this time. BACK on the phone again, 2 supervisors, 3 customer service reps. ( JOE from New York being the rudest customer service rep. I have EVER worked with) and 4 frustrating HOURS latter, Jason, the equally rude supervisor from Rochester, New York, informed me that Linda gave me BAD information, there was NOTHING he could do, and I am NOT eligible until April 14th!!!!! The WORST experience I have EVER had with a company. They were completely inept, rude, and not concerned about my time, my frustration, or the problems I was facing with their product in the LEAST. I have 4 LINES on Verizon that I am going to talk to Sprint about buying out. It was a horrible experience, and I can NOT believe I have no recourse or anyone to talk to....

Edge has very clear restrictions, one being that you must have 6 months of clean payment history which you don't. Either wait until April 14, or good luck at Sprint.
I am unsure how it can be determined the payment mix up was the fault of CS, but regardless, the mix up was done. There can be any number of reasons why a payment could be missed without any fault on your part, however you are still the responsible party for the account and must live with the repercussions.

  • Backing up cell phone contacts

I want to use iSync to back up my cell phone contacts in a specific Address Book group.
I don't want to transmit any information from the computer to the phone. I just want to pull data from the phone to the computer.
I tried using iSync to sync my Motorola v710 with an Address Book group called "v710 contacts." When I was done, (1) no contacts appeared in the Address Book group; (2) the two people I call most frequently were somehow deleted from my phone; and (3) certain other people who I never call suddenly had a redundant listing on my phone.
Anyone know the right way to do this? Thanks.

There is no 'right' way to do what you want with iSync: it simply does not have this capability.
iSync is designed so that, within the limitations of an applied filter—such as the Address Book group identifier—both sets of data are equal or identical when the event ends. It has no provision to overwrite the contents of a Mac OS X application like the Address Book with the contents of your mobile handset.
You will simply have to look for another OS X application to transfer selected mobile handset contacts unidirectionally to a data file on your computer.

  • WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Boost Mobile Example

    Greetings Earthlings and Android Fans....
Just posted this to my blog and wanted to share a text version here. Check it out if you're looking to tether your tablet to your cell phone. I tethered my Thrive to my Boost Mobile LG Marquee.
From:  Kaio's Klassroom: WiFi Tether Your Android Tablet to Your Cell Phone - LG Marquee Infrastruct...
Want to tether your tablet to your cell phone, but Ad-Hoc got you down?  How about trying this nifty little tweak that got me up in running in a jiffy!!
I recently got a new LG Marquee Prepaid Phone with Boost Mobile @Amazon and I really love it.  Only problem is, I was spoiled with my last phone because it was rooted to support Infrastructure tethering and I had no idea how difficult and unusual that was.  I've since done some research with my new Boost Mobile LG Marquee, and after a little trial and error (and some lucky Google searches) I have successfully tethered my LG Marquee to my Toshiba Thrive tablet!!!
    Here's what I did:
Mandatory Disclaimer - The following information is for informational purposes only.  Proceed at your own risk!!!  Rooting will void your warranty and could "brick" your phone if you do something wrong!!  So if you damage your phone, or any of your tech, that's on you.
NOTE: If you don't have an LG Marquee, just search "your phone model" + "root" and you should find plenty of information specific to your phone.  There's always people wanting to do the same thing you are, so it's just a matter of finding the information that's already out there.  Once your phone is rooted, come back here and start on Step 2.
Step 1 -- Root your LG Marquee (You do NOT need to root your Tablet)
The following information was taken from LG Cell Phones Blog and are for the LG Esteem, which is a generic root mod.
    > Enable USB Debugging on your LG Marquee: Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Enable Debugging and check the box.
    > Download and install the LG USB drivers at:  LG Cell Phones Blog You want the file "LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3. 2.1_2.exe"
    > After installing the USB drivers connect your phone to a PC.  On the phone, pull down the notification bar at the top of the phone's screen and click on USB Connected.  Set the phone to Internet Connection mode (CHARGE ONLY not Mass Storage).
    > Download "LG_Esteem_Root.zip"  at:  LG Cell Phones Blog.  Unzip the file and double-click on the run.bat file.
Note: Kaspersky Internet Security will flag this file as a Trojan: "Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.ag"  I don't believe this file is a Trojan, per se.  I believe it's required during the root process.  When I let Kaspersky eliminate the file, my phone wouldn't root.  So I decided to run the root program on a secondary computer, just in case.  I disabled Kaspersky temporarily on that computer, and ran the root zip and my phone rooted without a hitch.  I later scanned my phone with Webroot Security and AVG, and neither found any viruses on my phone, so I believe the process is safe.  Technically, rooting your phone probably does involve a Trojan hack, hence why Kaspersky flags that file.  However, I must reiterate to proceed at your own risk.
Just in Case -- How to Unroot Sprint LG Marquee:
Use root explorer and delete superuser.apk from the /system/app folder. Go to the Android market and download and install super user. Use root explorer again and delete su from /system/bin. Go to the market and uninstall super user.  Do a factory reset & you will be back to square one.
Step 2 -- Verify that you have properly rooted your phone with this nifty free app: Root Checker Basic
If you did everything right, you should get a message that says "Congratulations, this device has root access."  If you fail to get that message, go back to Step 1.
Step 3 -- Download the Android WiFi Tether for root users app
Currently, the only version of Android WiFi Tether that worked for me was 3.1-beta7.  The newest version doesn't work properly with tablets, so be sure to get 3.1-beta7.  Here's a link and QR code for easy access: WiFi Tether 3.1-beta7 apk
Step 4 -- Configure WiFi Tether app:
I've tried many settings, but these are the only ones that have worked.  Start the app and grant Super User Permissions.  Then Click Menu to get into the app's setting.  Inside the Settings, do the following:
    > Change Device Profile to: Samsung Galaxy S
    > Change Setup Method to: Netd (Master)
    > Enable WiFi Encryption: Check box to Enable
    > Change Pass Phrase to: any 13 digit password of your choice.
    > Change SSID to: any name of your choice.
    > Change Channel to: 4 (2427mhz)
    > Disable Update Check: Check box to Disable.
    > Click your phone's Back Arrow to Exit back to the app's Main Screen
    > Touch the WiFi button onscreen to start tethering.
    > Grant Super User Permissions
Note: If you get Error Code 67, Click Dismiss.  If you update, I don't know what will happen; my guess is it will disable the ability to tether.  But if I click Dismiss, my tethering is Enabled, and works perfectly.
Step 5 -- Grab Your Tablet & Start Tethering
    > Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Check the box to Enable WiFi > Click WiFi Settings > Under WiFi Networks, find the SSID for your tethering app that you entered in Step 4 above. > Click on the SSID of your tethering app > Enter the 13 digit Pass Phrase you created in Step 4 above and Click Connect.
That's it!  Congratulations -- your tablet should now be tethered to your cell phone!
Now that you're tethered to your cell phone, be smart, and DON'T download a ton of gigabytes.  Just be smart about it, and you should be fine.  Remember, tethering to your cell phone probably goes against the terms of service with your cell phone carrier, so DON'T abuse the privilege.
Now that you're the envy of all your friends, why not test your data speeds: SpeedTest App - FreeMy data speed test results with my Toshiba Thrive tablet tethered to my LG Marquee:
    Download:  855kbps   Upload:  302kbps
That's pretty great for a 3g no-contract cell phone with unlimited data.
    Happy tethering everyone!
    Go forth and Androidify!
    Hugs, Kaio
    ;oD

  • Using cell phone as a 3G USB modem for Leopard

    Hi All,
I just get an MacBook Pro the last week, I was happy with the UI of the OS at first sight, but when come to the setting of the network, I am really frustrated.
I get a SE P1i cell phone, I would like to use it as a usb modem for my MAC so that I can have 3G internet connection when on the road. But the problem is that, I can't connect it to my MAC at all!
Leopard can regonize my phone but it seems that none of the modem script(including the SONY ERICSSON script pre-installed) work for my phone. when I checked in the activity log, I see that the result of running every modem scripts are
"CCLExit: -6019 (Modem error, modem not responding.)"
I guess it should not be the problem of my phone as I try using SE K800i, the same result...
although I know that I can use the bluetooth rather the USB cable to connect them together, I would prefer USB cable as it is faster and more secure.
anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I am using the NI Example VI: Basic Serial Write and Read to send AT commands to a Cell phone acting as a Modem.  I can send AT commands to this phone using Hyperterm when I select the modem driver by name in the hypert port selection field but not as com 7 which it occupies according to device manager modem properties. The basic serial vi does not show the modem driver as a selection, only ports by comX are shown. I get error 1073807360.

Have you tried to put the name you enter in Hyperterminal in the VISA resource control? If Com 7 doesn't show, you can simply type "COM 7" in the VISA resource control. Or use "ASRL::INSTR 7".
Also, make sure the connection in hyperterminal is closed, before you open the port in LabVIEW.
    Hope it helps,

  • Can't connect Samsung WIFI cell phone to Tmobile using Airport time capsule

I am using Tmobile for cell phone service and Comcast for high speed internet. I am unable to mske a WIFI cell phone connection. I get Tmobile ISP errors. Talked with Tech support from Apple, Tmobile and Comcast.
Took the phone and the time capsule to the local Bridgeport apple store. They managed to get the connection up and running with my router. My phone also worked with their store network. We had to open UDP ports 500 and 4500 both ways and also IP protocols 50 and 51 both ways on the time capsule to make it work.
With the same settings, it does not work at home using Comcast.
    Help is appreciated.

I still can't use it the way I was hoping because it then becomes a T/M back-up disk and not a normal usb/firewire disc.
You are first mounting the drive on the desktop, correct?
Not sure what you mean here.
You can drag/drop files normally or copy/paste files to the drive icon on the desktop, just as you would a normal drive that is displayed on the desktop.
Or, double click the drive icon on the desktop and drag/drop files into the open window there.
Tell us the steps that you are using to mount the drive on the desktop. What happens after each step?
