Cell Broadcast question

I have 2 questions that I need help with. First, is in the hub settings there is a option to enable or disable Cell Broadcast. What function does it serve? And second does it use battery resources?
Thanks

Cell Broadcast
It won't consume battery resources unless it is being utilized.

  • N95 Cell Broadcast Question ?

    Hi.
I've been used to when "Cell Broadcast" is enabled for Topic 050 that on the display is shown from where I receive the signal.
In my N95 I'm only getting mesages telling me from where the signal is received but nothing is shown on the display.
Can someone of you guys tell me how to set it up that my phone won't alert me with a message received and only shows on the display from where I receive my signal.
Any help is very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tommy

Just put cell broadcast to off & it won't bother you anymore. By the way you have to subscribe first to a particular topic in which your isp provides such as traffic condition or whatever, so it can be send to you & displayed on your phone.

  • Cell Broadcast reception on iPhone - is it possible ? How to enable it ?

    Hello, all.
I'm working in a company that develops software for mobile operators, such as SMSC, USSDC, Customer care, Billing, etc...
One of our products is Cell Broadcast center.
Our clients use Cell Broadcast to give different services to their subscribers, such as location based discounts. For example, in some areas with low traffic a cell broadcast message is broadcasted - "Discount 20%". The subscribers see such messages on their phone and prefer to call from "cheaper" areas.
The problem is that these messages are not displayed on iPhone.
I've checked through all menues on iPhone and iPhone 3G, and couldn't find anything like "Cell Info Display" \ "Cell Broadcast" (like on Nokia phones), "Channels" (like on windows mobile Samsung), "Info services" (like on Motorola) or anything like this.
At the same time I know that iPhone is able to receive Cell Broadcast messages, since it's able to receive data on sim-card related cell broadcast channels (such as 1000h) and pass it to sim-card.
So my question is - can Iphone be configured to receive ordinary text Cell Broadcast messages (on channels 0-999) and show them on the title screen or in Messages (Mail) menu ???
Maybe there is some "secret code" to enable cell broadcast (like the one used to change SMSC address on iPhone) ???
    Best regards,
    Yury

I second that! It was a very useful function on my Nokia back then. Now I'm a proud owner of the iPhone 3G and it'd be really great having an opportunity of recieving broadcast messages on Apple's cell-phone as well.

  • How to enable Cell Broadcast message in Iphone5

    Hello!!
I work at True Corp. in Thailand. I would like to use Cell Broadcast System by using Iphone5 for receving Cell Broadcast message from Radio Site. I cannot find Cell Broadcast setting in Iphone5, I am not sure I have to new software from Apple or not?
How to enable Cell Broadcast function in Iphone5?
Note: Reference from this Website  https://smscellbroadcast.wordpress.com/tag/iphone/
    Thank you

In your case, you need to reset the router to factory defaults, at which point the SSID will be set to broadcast and it cannot be disabled. To know more about why there is no option to disable the SSID broadcast anymore on the Cloud firmware, click here.

  • Nokia Lumia SMS-CB (cell broadcast) support??

    Hi,
Do Nokia phones (or WP8) support the SMS-CB protocol?
Here in Holland we have "NL-Alert", a way of informing people about disasters or other mayhem by cell broadcast.
I was just surprised that a standard part of GSM/SMS isn't present on my Lumia 625, or any other Lumia phone I checked.....
So I would really like to know if this is addressed in the near future with firmware updates, or did I buy the wrong phone???
    rob

I concur with rayhipkiss. The only way I can call back the sender of a text message I've received is to tap on the name or number of the sender when viewing the text message. This is using an unbranded UK-CV Lumia 1020 and an operator branded Lumia 920.
I'd guess that that it is indeed something that your operator has added to their custom variant of the 928.
Do you see this "call back on" after messages sent to you by someone on other networks, and to they see it on messages that you send them?

  • How to configure Cell Broadcast channels on Z1 compact?

Just got my Z1 compact (wow!) and now I want to enable some (but not all) cell broadcast channels, zo I can receive emergency messages from the dutch governement. They are on channel 919.
Normally I would look on the configuration menu of either the Messages app or on the Settings, Networks menu. Neither shows anything resembling the Cell Broadcast configuration.
I downloaded and installed the Nexus cell broadcasting apk, but I can only enable/disable the US emergency messages.
How do I configure indivdual cell broadcast channels?
    Robert

  • Receiving info through Cell Broadcast

    hello!
I am trying to receive a cell broadcast message on cbs://:50.
my phone is a nokia 6230i which supports WMA and MIDP 2.0; the application works under WTK2.2, but not in real life. My GSM provider is Vodafone, and they do send CB messages (i receive them on the phone, but not with the application).
i have seen a similar thread (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=76&threadID=708476) -the code is basically the same- but the post has no answers.
    does anyone have a hint?

Hi, I have to get the cell id of the network where my mobile is located.
Do you think it's possible with cbs? If yes, how can I extract the value I need from the message I get?

  • How to stop cell broadcast 50

I keep getting this Cell broadcast 50 message and I can't find how to stop it. I also find the lack of control options upsetting. Past BlackBerry gave awesome options and user friendly where as my Z10 limits my usage.

Can you not unsubscribe from the broadcast messages?

  • Turn off cell broadcast information

I keep getting a pop up titled "Cell broadcast 50" on my phone. Sometimes as many as 30 in one night and I have to clear each one to be able to use my phone. This is so frustrating. Does anyone know how to turn it off in z10? In traditional BBs to turn off is settings, advanced settings, cell broadcast info, then off. But this doesn't seem to be the case with the Z10.

    You can turn it off.
    1. Go into the hub.
    2. click on overflow button (3 Vertical dots).
    3. Select settings.
    4. Select Cell broadcast
    5. Turn slider to off.

  • N95 Cell Broadcast & Active Standby not compatible

Hi - I have a N95 with V31 software and it STILL has the same problem.
2G Cell Broadcast information isnt displayed (only displayed for 1 second) when the Active Standby is on
Anyone know when this will be fixed?
Also does it do it in the N97 too?

The ability to view texts/emails on the stanby screen is a feature only offered to the business E-Series phones.
I too would like this on my N95, but alas we cannot!

  • J2ME on cell phones questions

    Hi,
I'm in the process of picking a project and wanted to see how doable it is. The project involves a cell phone and a Java program to use Bluetooth. This is real unknown territory for me so my questions are very simple. First does J2ME have packages/classes that allow for bluetooth communication (name)? Or is that a separate package I need to find?
Second, can you save to files/permanent memory from an application running on a cell phone (to save some program settings etc). On the cheapest cell phone usually how little memroy is available? Also can you name some classes that allow for this in J2ME (other libraries).
Finally how standard is all this? What's the probability that the program will run on all of the new cell phones? On all new cell phones from same manufacturer?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
J2ME has JSR 82, that specifies BlueTooth stack. It's bundled with latest WTK releases (and netBeans 4.0 Mobility Pack as well). If it's available on device depends on HW equipment of the device of course.
For your second Q: RMS storage is defined by MIDP 1.0 itself so yes, you can store some records. Not sure about the size I guess you can count on 8kb. The storage will be more , least I know of is 30kb on Nokia 6310, usual sizes are 1-5 Mb, smartphones use MMC cards, so the size can grow to hundreds of megs.

  • Broadcasting question

    Hello all,
I would like to broadcasting some report to our customers. I have two questions:
    1. Can I send the report to any valid email address?
    2. Is it possible to use ALEREMOTE as the owner when send out the report? How to do that?
    Thanks!

Probably the same reason you don't want to use root to do everything in Unix.  It's a security concern, also if something goes wrong with broadcasting or whatever, you might need to blow away the ID, but you can't blow away ALEREMOTE.  We created a separate system account just for broadcasting.
While technically you can go with what Emmanuel said about logging into portal with any ID then use ALEREMOTE under authorization user of the broadcast configuration, we've run into errors with that setup.  So we played it safe and logged in with the system ID and created broadcast settings with that ID, so that both the setting owner and the authorization user are the same.

  • BEx Broadcaster Question

    Hello All.
Just a quick question since i'm getting inpatient.
I'm trying to set up schedules thru bex broadcaster thru the BI Portal.
Is there any other way to do this?  Meaning is there a tran code i can go to in the system and do the same.
This just seems to be very slow way of doing it, and just thought i'd throw the question out there.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Broadcast questions

I've just been asked if I could shoot a debate for possible airing on our local Comcast provider. We're just in preliminary talks now, but figured I should get a jump on the game if I can. I've done DVD only work, but through reading these forums, have learned many things about video for broadcast. I know that Comcast will be picky about what format it's delivered on, either a tape or HDD, so that's something I'm asking about. But what else am I forgetting? I know coloring is major for broadcast, so really for the first time, I'll spend a while coloring the whole thing (the debate will be in a large room with florescent lighting, so I figure all I'll really be doing is taking out the florescent color and giving the speakers some life back in them). So besides delivery and coloring, is there anything else I should watch out for? I'll be shooting at least 2, hopefully 3 cameras in HDV, then downconverting to DV on import since I don't think Comcast would air this in HD anyways. Will I need to include timecode or countdown at the beginning? I know I'll need to add Bars and Tone, but how long and at both the start and finish? A lot of these questions I figure I need to discuss with someone at Comcast, but seeing as how right now I'm just working on a MacBook Pro with my camera as my deck (bad, I know, but when I start getting bigger jobs that require better equipment, then I'll upgrade), I want to plan what I'll need to rent, buy, or borrow for this gig early so I'm prepared.
Any details on broadcast work would be great, thanks.
    -Brian

Believe it or not, I did a performance recently on our local Comcast station, and asked them what format they were recording on and if I could get a dub and they told me they were recording to a DVD recorder and nothing else, for the broadcast master for their show!! They were nice enough to make me a VHS copy (informing me that in fact this was SUPER VHS - ooooo!)
Whether or not your station has similar standards or lack thereof, it will behoove you to take this opprotunity to learn about mastering. The station should be able to provide you with their specs and recommendations. As far as what you can do on your end -
turn on Range Check to see if any clips need to have the broadcast filter applied. FCP's broadcast filter will clamp down on luma and chroma (brightness and color sturation) to bring the image into broadcat safe specs. Usually this is done for non-cable broadcast signals, to keep the brightness and chroma from "bleeding" into the range of the frequency bandwidth used by the audio portion of the VHF or UHF signal. The Brodcast Safe filter can be merciless with your image detail if applied aggressively, and you may find better results can be achieved with the Color Correction filters.
I usually stripe my master tape with TC starting at 00:58:30:00. This allows 90 seconds for bars, slate and countdown before starting the program at 1:00:00:00, which iis generally the standard in North America. I like to build a sequence that will mirror my master tape, adding the bars, slate, and countdown in the sequence, rather than in the mastering window. There is a nice film countdown available in the Cinema Tools extras folder on the FCS discs somewhere, if you didn't already install it. I believe the file is called Head Leader-DV NTSC, or some such thing. There will be a countdown to -2 seconds with a pop that is supposed to occur 2 seconds before program start - in case you ever wondered where 2-pop came from...
Something that many beginners do not consider is that the bars and tone are supposed to be a reference to your program, not just some extra thing to stick onto your tape at the beginning. For instance, If you have taken the time to correct your color for broadcast safe, the default bars generator from final cut will have white levels outside of broadcast safe. Any engineer that receives your tape who is doing his or her job will see these bars and then correct the signal according to those bars, which will result in dull highlights and gray blacks. If your program is already broadcast safe, you should put a filter on the bars to match, to avoid "setup" being added to your video unnecessarily.
Same is true with the tone level. The bars will have a default reference tone level of -12. If analog dubs are made, the practice generally is to set the analog tone level to 0VU - on the analog scale, 0 is in the middle, with usually 5-10dB or more of headroom above 0VU, wehreas on the digital scale, 0dB is the absolute ceiling, above which any signal will be clipped. Anyway, I usually mix my audio so my average dialog is between -18 and -12, with peaks going to -9 or so. In this case I use a reference tone of -20 on my master, so that setting the incoming tone level to 0 on analog equipment will use the headroom above 0VU. If you have mixed your audio in this way, then you may get better results by changing the tone level in your mastering sequence. If your audio levels in FCP are peaking closer to 0dB on the digital scale, you should use the default -12 tone on the bars. There are differing shcools of thought on what is really the right standard, and different types of audio warrant different approaches, depending on dynamic range, how the master willl be used, etc.
    Hope this helps -
    Max
