Cell signal degradation

I have experienced significant signal degradation over the course of the last few months. It is to the point where i no longer have a signal inside my home. Many other Verizon subscribers in the area have voiced the same concern. We used to have superb service but now we are all suffering!!! Zip code is 35761. Can someone point me to where i need to file an official complaint/inquiry?

I have an iPhone 5s, as do most others in the community that are experiencing the same degradation. I have had reports from 13 other people that I would assume all connect to the same local tower. There is definitely an issue. I certainly wouldn't deem it an outtage but it is significant enough that many of us are considering switching to another company as we no longer have coverage inside our homes.

  • Can no longer connect to internet w/ cell signal - advice?

    Hi, all -
I can no longer access the internet using a cell signal on my Droid 3. Everything was working fine until about a week ago, but now I get no 3G signal at all and only one or two bars. When I turn on the WiFi, I have no trouble accessing the internet. I can make calls with no problem, but cannot access the internet or my apps.
I have tried the following, but I am still not getting a usable wireless signal:
    ·        -  Restarted device several times
    ·       -  Turned “airplane” settings on and off
    ·        - Removed battery, replaced it and restarted
    ·        -  Dialed *228, then option 1 to activate service
    ·        - Dialed *228, then option 2 to reprogram service
Does anybody have any other ideas? I REALLY do not want to use the "nuclear" factory reset option unless absolutely necessary!
Thanks in advance for any help!

dmiller28, being without data is very difficult! Your efforts are greatly appreciated and you are on the right track with the troubleshooting steps. Have you tried checking the network settings in the device? To do this you will go to: menu>settings>wireless and networks>network mode and check if it is set to CDMA. Otherwise the next step is to do the factory reset which will be the last resort option. Keep us posted, thanks!

  • Ios7 clock app I can no longer see the time or cell signal at the top of the screen.

I just updated to ios7  I have the iphone 5.
I can no longer see the cell signal or time at the top of the clock app.  I actually have to leave the clock app to see what time it is or try to read the analog clocks in the time zone section.  I have a friend with a 4s, and they can still see the stuff at the top of the screen.  Help?  Is this a bug, or is there a setting I can change?

This is what it loks like...no time or cell signal at the top

  • IOS 8.1. Does it solve wifi/ Bluetooth/ cell signal?

I Thought I'd start a new thread specifically for this...couldn't see one, other than comments updating on 8.0.2, which is useful but not specific for those just searching for the first time. I'm too nervous to update as I'm still on 8.0 with a few wifi issues but they aren't as bad as for some. I do have cell signal issues but my Bluetooth in my Volvo is fine so I don't want to mess that up. What's the verdict please guys?

iOS 8.1 fixed my Bluetooth problems (car, headphones and BT speakers, neither of which worked after upgrading to iOS8). My wifi is fine (was fine with iOS 8 as well though). I see no problems whatsoever at this moment (iPhone 5).

  • Strength of cell signal significantly changes

I've noticed the strength of my cell signal significantly changes, it will go from 4 to 5 bars to 1, And I'm not even moving. The reason I moved to AT&T five years ago is that I can look out my home office window and see an AT&T cell tower. I'm aware that the IOS 4.0.1 changed the algorithm on how it shows cellular strength, and in field test mode I also see the negative number changed significantly and I'm not even holding the phone with the death grip.
In the field test mode I will go from a -71 to -108, when I do the test the phone is on my desk. It’s odd that the number doesn't slowly change from -71 to a higher number, that I could understand. In just one second it will change from -71 to a -108 (five bars to one). Such a significant change in numbers so quickly when I'm virtually living next to a cell tower seems a little odd.

I noticed the same with the cell phone I was using with AT&T prior to purchasing the original iPhone over 3 years ago which was the same or similar with my original iPhone and 3G and is the same with my iPhone 4. Any problems placing or receiving calls regardless?
    Copied from this link.
    http://ask.metafilter.com/60227/What-do-cell-phone-reception-bars-mean
The technical term is "EC/I0" (pronounced "ee-see-over-eye-naught") and it refers to the amount of the signal which is usable. In CDMA you can have strong signal (4 bars) and lousy EC/I0 and not be able to carry a call, and you can have low signal (zero bars) and excellent EC/I0 and carry a call fine. But they can't display EC/I0 because it fluctuates wildly (it could go from zero to four bars and back to zero again in just a few seconds) and would terrify users, so they display the signal strength, which at least has the virtue of being stable, though it doesn't really mean much.
The biggest reason why the signal strength isn't very helpful for GSM is what's known as "multipath". The signal reaching you from the cell can arrive by different routes which are slightly different lengths, meaning that they're offset in time. If you've ever seen "ghosts" on a TV when using rabbit-ear antennas, you're seeing the same effect. The "ghost" is a multipath component.
The number of bars shown with my iPhone 4 while I'm in my house fluctuates between 1 to 4 bars and there is an AT&T tower not too far away, but I have no problems placing and receiving calls and no problem with dropped calls while in my house or anywhere else. I had a 30 minute phone call last week while my iPhone showed one bar of reception.
CDMA is better overall inside buildings than GSM.

  • Is it possible to make a call thru a wifi connection?( ie. no cell signal is available)

I've long wanted to switch to the Iphone but I sometimes need to go to some locations where AT&T nor verizon nor sprint have cell signals and the only way to make a call is by tethering to the wifi connection. This is possible with my tmobile phone but havent succeeded when trying to use an iphone. Is there a way to make this work?

You need a special phone which allows wifi calling.
The iPhone does not have this option.
You can get a micro-cell device, which plugs into your network internet and is basically a mini cell phone tower. It will work with regular cell phones (includiing iPhone).

  • Two iPhone 4s, one with better cell signal

    Hi All,
I just bought my wife an iPhone 4 and I've had mine since the initial release. First thing that caught my eye was that she clearly had better cell reception on her phone compared to mine. I've always thought that I had a bad cell signal because we live in a tri-level townhome, but her phone gets 2 to 3 bars compared to my 1 bar or constantly searching for network.
FYI, both phones are updated to 4.2.1. I've reset my network settings many times and did full restores. Could it be that an antenna hardware fix was done on the newer set of iPhone 4s?

My wife's phone is having same or similar issues as described by eyexist. Her iPhone 4 has been working without issue until 3 days ago when her cell signal is extremely weak and/or non existent. I have an iPhone 3GS and in areas where my wife's iPhone 4 is unable to obtain signal, mine generally has 3 to 4 signal bars. We traveled from Houston to Little Rock over the Thanksgiving holiday and most of 8 hour drive my wife's iPhone 4 had little to no signal where my iPhone 3GS only lost signal in several known spots along the way. I've performed multiple restores with no change and have taken iPhone 4 to AT&T store who informed me I would need to take to Apple Store for assistance.
If anyone else having same issue, please reply to inform what you have done to address issue. Any assistance regarding this issue welcome. Thank you!

  • Is it possible to condition a load cell signal with a 1520 SCXI and then use it as the primary analog feedback for a 735X motion control board?

    My system
    PXI 1052 chassis
    PXI 8196 RT controller
    Flexmotion 7356 motion controller
    Flexmotion 7354 motion controller
    6259 M series DAQ
    1520 SCXI
    1520 SCXI
1314 SCXI frount mounting terminal block
    DSM strain gage load cells
    Exlar SR Brushless PM motors
Kollmorgen servo star CD series 5 drives
    My objective:
I want to measure the force on the load cells with the 1520 SCXI (i.e. excite the load cell then amplify and condition its output) then I want to use this analog (force) signal as the primary feedback for my motion control system (7356 and 7354 motion controller connected to my drives and motors).
    The problem:
The motion controller boards (7356 and 7354) can be configured for force feedback control via analog feedback from a load cell.  However the boards implicitly expect the load cell signal to be amplified and conditioned with and external signal conditioner rather then using an NI SCXI module.  Currently I’m am reading the SCXI signals via the 6259 M seriers DAQ and consequentially have no way to route the signal into the 735X boards for force feedback control.  I can use softmotion to control the motors but then I loose the fast PID update rates possible with the 735X boards.
    The question:
Is it possible to condition a load cell signal with a 1520 SCXI and then use it as the primary analog feedback for a 735X motion control board?
    Thanks

    Hi GG,
    Thank you for your feedback.
    >create your own external circuitry to amplify the signal.>
True a few op-amps could amplify and filter the signal externally but the performance of such an amateur built system will never match the accuracy and functionality of the 1520 SCXI.  That’s why we spent the $2500 for the professional version.
    >One thing that you could do is to use a UMI with your motion controller and then wire your signal from your SCXI to the UMI.>
As I understand it the UMI is basically a break out connectivity interface for third party drives.  After conditioning and amplifying the analog force signal with the SCXI module the analog signal isn’t available to wire into a UMI.  To my knowledge the conditioned signal of the SCXI resides only in the PXI backplane (i.e. there is no physical access to the conditioned analog signal).  Can you explain how the UMI could be help here.
Again thanks for your input GG.

  • 3Gs Wifi cuts out when cell signal drops out

I recently received a new 3Gs from Applecare with firmware 3.1.3. My previous 3Gs was running 3.1.2. I have terrible cell signal in my basement. It usually bounces between 1 bar and no signal. Since receiving my new 3Gs, the wifi signal would drop and come back when the cell signal goes from 1 bar to no signal. It also does this when it goes from no signal to 1 bar. I never noticed this on my previous phone with 3.1.2 firmware. I only noticed this since it interrupts my pod cast streams. I also noticed that when the wifi signal cuts out, the iphone locks up momentarily (can't do anything on the touchscreen). Has anyone else noticed this? Hardware or firmware issue? BTW, restoring to a fresh setup doesn't seem to help.

In case someone ends up having the same problem, I suspected a faulty cell radio in my iPhone. The local Apple store swapped out the phone. They also suspected it having the same problem.
This is now my FOURTH iPhone 3GS. (#1 bad accelerometer, #2 scratched LCD & bad cell radio / GPS chip, #3 bad cell radio). I hope this one does better.
What's happened to the quality of these phones? My 1st gen iPhone had Zero problems. It was chipped and banged up quite a bit, but still worked like a champ.

  • Looking for VZW 4G tab-cell signal strength widget/app?

The 4G signal strength bars in the task bar of the VZW 4G tab don't quantify the strength of the 4G signal and I'm looking for something that will do better.
For background I have a 4G modem [VL600] and use VZAccess Manager which does give a 4G readout [called RSSI] in db so we know its possible to get a value.
I've searched the market for "cell signal widget" and have tried everything that looked promising-nothing worked on the tab.
Anybody got any suggestions for something that may work?
    Thanks.
    Jim Kirk

I do not think there is a app that can access and read the 4G (LTE) signal information... This was covered at http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-htc-thunderbolt-forums/104759-way-see-4g-signal-strength.html and it was reported that this does not seem to be possible at this time.

  • Intermittent Cell Signal

My iPhone 3G picks up my cell signal intermittently.  I've restored, replaced the sim card, closed all apps... any other suggestions?

    Hi Inspiron,
It could be down to wireless interference. Changing the Wireless channel could help reduce that interference. Click Here for details how to change the wireless channel.

  • My iPad suddenly stopped receiving cell signal from Verizon and in the top left corner it says Invavid SIM where it used to say 3G

MY 2 week old IPad 2 suddenly stopped receiving a cell signal from Verizon and in the top left corner of the screen it says Invalid SIM where it used to say 3G.  Why did this happen and how do I fix it?  Still works on WIFI...

Why? Who knows. You could try reseating the SIM to see if this helps. If not contact Verizon.

  • Low cell signal After upgrade to IOS 5.1.1 to my iphone 4

After upgrading my iphone 4 to IOS 5.1.1 ,my cell signal becomes very low and after some time it shows no service.

Do you know if your "Cell Network Search" under "Location Services" is on or off. I have been struggling with the same issue, on and off and this is one of the settings I have changed recently.
