Cell standby uses lots of battery

What exactly is this and why its consuming 45 % of overall battery? My mobile data, stamina mode and battery saver is on. Even I have restricted background data.I guess its related with sim card.

  • Cell standby is using 3x more than anything else on Galaxy S6.

I had WiFi and BT off almost all day.  Battery tracking indicates that cell standby is the biggest drain.  For example, 25% for standby and 8% for screen. Down to 46% capacity @5hr.

Cell standby is a misleading battery statistic with some versions of Android.  I have a phone that reads almost 100% cell standby, and is at the top of the list, but my battery is not affected at all.  It has to do with how the phone reads the radios.  The phone looks for GSM and CDMA radios.  Older phones on KitKat would read correctly but some newer versions and phones will only find one radio or the other, and if you are on wifi most of the day or all day, depending on what network mode the phone reads, could be 50-100% standby.  I have had a phone that did not have GSM radios in it and when in LTE the phone didnt read CDMA, so I'd have 100% standby, and if the same phone was on 3G all day, I'd have 50% standby.  (GSM 0% + CDMA 100 divided by 2 radios = 50%.)

  • Droid 3 problems - Cell standby eats up a ton of battery - camera doesn't work - more in thread.

I am making a post regarding this problem because it seems only new posts get a response from VZW reps. Before you ask, yes I have used the battery saving tips - this is clearly a problem with cell standby and wifi. They are, by far, the biggest consumers of the battery. I don't know what's going on here but this should not be happening. Even on the unpatched Thunderbolt the battery life wasn't this bad. This battery problem is clearly not because of any third party apps, even with no accounts set up and nothing installed, the battery drains very quickly.
The camera doesn't work right, and regularly freezes. When it does work, it's very blue. I am told this is a known issue and the patch is on the way I'm told.
The stock keyboard's suggestion bar often stays on the screen no matter what, regardless of whether I am typing or not.
The Droid 3 does NOT charge off my car's USB cable, every other phone and mobile device I've tried does, however, so this is clearly an issue with the phone.
The stock homescreen lags and redraws often.
The pre-installed apps that I don't want or use, are using up a big chunk of memory (and certainly not helping already abysmal battery life). If they are killed, they just start themselves again. They cannot be uninstalled. If Verizon wants to give us extra apps, great, but allow us to uninstall them.
I received this as a replacement phone because the previous replacement phone was having issues. I've gotten dozens of replacement phones and ALL of them have had problems. Whatever steps are being taken to ensure these phones work properly do not ensure that people are getting a working phone. This process needs to be revised. The premium price we as Verizon customers pay should translate to our customer experience.
    -A very frustrated customer.

I've had a Droid 3 for about a month. I think it's a really good phone, but cell standby and phone idle are the biggest consumers of battery life on my phone. The camera is slow to load and the images have a blue tint sometimes. When surfing the web or the app store and exiting afterwards, the main screen can take 8 - 16 seconds to materialize. When surfing through the Social Messaging (NonBlur) widget, it repeats things you've already read when you check it later on and when replying to comments via the Social Messaging widget, they don't always post. The back cover squeaks now from removing it occasionally to pull the battery when the phone freezes up. For being a 1G dual core processor phone, you would never know it. I've also had problems with the suggestion bar remaining on the screen even after you press the space bar. The app store is maddeningly slow to load. The indicator next to my battery charging port doesn't work, well it flickered once. I haven't had issues with Bluetooth or wifi as some have. My GPS seems to work well.
The bloatware on the phone is ridiculous. I don't use any of the Verizon apps or other preloaded apps. They take up a lot of the useable space on the phone and can't be removed. I really don't care about an NFL app....and I can't remove it or anything else. Verizon should give you the option of removing the apps you won't use. It would be a good customer service move. Instead, I think its selfish to make us live with apps that take up space and slow the phone down. This phone comes with Android 2.3.4 which is the fastest version of Android right now....I can honestly say that my Droid X with 2.2 was faster on the move than this phone. However, after downloading 2.3.3, it ruined the phone and a replacement.
I think if a software update addresses most of these issues, the Droid 3 would be outstanding. The hardware keyboard is the best on the market and I love the 4 inch screen. I pay $100 + a month for service through Verizon. I think the phone should operate as promised. The 8 megapixel camera is slow to load and focus. My old Droid X had a good 8MP camera sensor. Lesser phones have great cameras. My boss' iphone 4 takes WAY better pics with a 5MP camera. I know it's a software issue and that it can be resolved. Make this phone world class by working with Motorola to deliver a quality software update.
I stick with Verizon because of their reliable coverage. If this phone doesn't get addressed with a software update, I'll look at a WP7 phone or something on Sprint (better prices on data etc) or Virgin Mobile which has some decent phones and dirt cheap messaging and data plans.

  • Droid 3 Cell Standby Battery Issue - Call Verizon and let them know you're having a problem.

At this time, the cell standby battery problem is not considered a known issue despite it being a very serious problem for every Droid 3 owner I've spoken with so far. If you are experiencing this or any other problem, report it and encourage everyone you know to report it.
They are working on a patch for the camera because a lot of people complained, the only way they will fix this issue is if you call and complain - make sure they are aware of the problem. Make sure Motorola is aware of the problem.

Mine reboots off and on after update but I told them. And when I'm charging it does shut off. I have the new update. After it does this then when I go into a Verizon app like NFL mobile I have to log in to my Verizon profile before I can use the app. Ugh. Does it make u sign in to if my Verizon profile after u turn the phone on as well as go into say NFL mobile or a Verizon owned app like media manager just when u start the app on. Everytime the phone turns off I have to sign in if I want to open one of these apps.

  • Does updating multiple apps on my MBP use a lot of battery power?

Tonight my MBP battery % dropped AFTER I updated seven iTunes apps, most being bug fixes. It went from 85% to 73% after the updates were completed. Earlier I was using my Beats Pill with NO drop. I had already put the Beats Pill off by the time I did the updates.
Do updates use THAT much battery power?

Do you mean Mac app store apps? Running  Mavericks on a 2011 Macbook Pro should handle it fine, but it can depends on the type and size of the seven apps.  It also depends on you wi-fi connection and your screen/keyboard brightness.  Wi-fi updates can use a lot of battery because it's time consuming, especially if they're large files.

  • HT4060 I'm having some problems with my ipad and charging it. I am having to leave it in charge for a lot longer, but when I take it out and want to use it the battery is still not completely full and goes down a lot faster than usual

I'm having some problems with my ipad and charging it. I am having to leave it in charge for a lot longer, but when I take it out and want to use it the battery is still not completely full and goes down a lot faster than usual. The other day, I had charged  my iPad overnight so that I could take it to university with me for the day, and when I had switched it on the next day the battery was on 5% and I had not used it since charge.

Your battery may be dying. THey are only good for so many charges/discharges. If you have an apple store near by make an appointment and have them check itout

  • [A1] [ICS] Cell standby battery drain issue (again)

This issue was brought up not long after the A1 was originally released. The 'Cell standby' funtion was taking most of the power. The workaround in stock GB was to put the device into airplane mode, as you could still then have Wifi on.
However, with the new ICS builds, even with airplane mode on, cell standby does not appear to stop. Battery life appears to be poorer as a result (though have no scientific evidence to prove it, though it feels slightly worse than stock GB, and much worse than CM7).
Anyone else feeling the same, or managed any workarounds?

  • Does having wi-fi switched on use a lot of battery power?

..or how much longer does the battery last if you had it switched off all the time?

Posted below is a link for Battery information.
And yes just like any feature in iPhone if you use it for any long length of time it does require battery power to provide those services. Posted below are some Battery saving tips
    1. Settings-WiFi- turn Ask to Join Networks off. This way the iPhone is not always searching for a network. This can save possible battery life.
    2. Settings-General-Bluetooth turn this off if your not using it. By default it is off
    3. Settings-General-Mail - Change Auto Check to Manual. This will reduce the times iPhone goes out automatically checking for email and using bandwidth/extra battery life. That way when you tap on Mail your manually requesting to go out and have it fetch your email when you want it.

  • How can I tell if my iPad 3 is using up the battery too quickly?

I have only used my iPad a few times so far, and the battery isn't down to zero, but I still worry that that battery isn't holding its charge because it seems that every time I look up @ the battery indicator it has gone down a point or two, something I don't notice with any other device. Roughly how much power should it lose in an hour of light use, i.e. not streaming videos??? Should the percent go down a point or two every few minutes?
    Thanks.
    Nervous New iPad Owner

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Using higher wh battery in canon Elph 100hs

I recently ordered a new battery charger for my Canon Powershot ELPH 100 HS because my old one was taken when the bookbag it was in was stolen.
The new battery charger is called "Digital Video Battery Compact Travel Charger" and has an AC input and a Car adapter. The output is 4.2V + 0.05V, 300 mA + 50 mA
The Battery that came with the charger says "For CN-NB-4L" which is the same as the old battery.
The technical point I'm concerned about is the voltage and Wh the camera will be receiving if I use this new battery and new charger, although I think it will be ok.
    Old Battery: 3.7V ===760 mAH 2.9Wh(Li-ion)
    New Battery: 3.7V == 1400 mAH 5.18Wh
Does anybody know if this charger will be ok to charge my old battery, and if the new battery I received with the new charger will work in my camera?
    Thanks!

    Wh is just Watt-hours, it’s not a concern.  1.4 Ah x 3.7 V = 5.18 Wh
Everything else is a bit more complicated.  Camera companies like to come out with a ton of different model batteries and chargers and make it complicated so you’re inclined to buy some over-priced charger directly from them.  My advice when buying third party electronics, and I do often, is I buy from Amazon and I buy products that have a lot of reviews so I can confirm it works with my device and there’s a low rate of duds.  I usually avoid the super cheap ones, shooting for middle of the road between OEM price and cheapos.
The voltage of a charger doesn’t have to match the battery voltage, and the voltage a charger puts out is going to spike higher than its rating.  But if the spike is too high obviously it can damage it.  4.2 seems in the ballpark, though 300 mA is fairly small, it’s going to take awhile to charge a 1400 mAh battery.
All that said, I’d not play engineer.  Find your battery model, and buy a charger that explicitly states it’s for that model…  from a reputable dealer.

  • Using Kindle and Battery life

I find battery depletes rapidly while reading books using Kindle application. I would think this takes less power than viewing video or using a wi-fi application like Pandora's Internet radio. Anyone have a view ?

yeah i would certainly expect it to take lower battery power.
what are your brightness settings like? that can take up a lot of battery. i would also suggest turning off the wifi if you aren't using it, bound to help.

I am losing battery time so fast I have to charge phone everyday under light use. Fast battery erin started after loading latest IOS version 7.1. What is fix?

Charging a smartphone on a daily basis has pretty much been par for the course for 7 years now unless you just don't use it at all...
Maybe you could clarify just how much it's draining and with what kind of usage...
Look at Settings>General>Usage... scroll down and look at the statistics for usage and standby. Keep track of this for a day or so.

  • Ipad2 gives me ""accessory is not supported" message w/ VGA adapter that I used lots of times before. Now it's not working. Why? and how do I get it back to normal functioning?

Ipad2 gives me ""accessory is not supported" message w/ VGA adapter that I used lots of times before. Now it's not working. Why? and how do I get it back to normal functioning?
I used the (Apple branded) VGA adapter lots of times last year. Now I got back to one place I used it many times and it does not work. When I restart iPad with the adapter connected, I get the "accessory is not supported"message. But that same accessory WAS supported before.
This is very annoying as I planned a whole bunch of presentations starting this week to do with my iPad2 and that adapter.

I received the same error message, "Accessory Not Supported"  from both the VGA and DV video adapters I purchased, both were boxed direct from Apple. However, to bypass this problem I  simply clicked on Photos icon on iPad2 and flipped through photos until it displayed on my projector.  I then exited the Photos app and my home screen displayed fine on the projection screen.
Some logic issue with the video adapters, but launching Apple Photo app initializes the video adapters then they work fine for mirroring after that.
    Platform: iPad2
    IOS: 5.1.1
    Best regards!

  • Can I use an external battery pack on my 17" Mac Book Pro?

    Hi
This may sound like a crazy question, but is it possible to safely use an external battery pack on my Mac Book Pro?.....specifically a Bescor Video Light battery pack which I can just plug my a/c power cable into. This would be very useful in the case of a local power failure (which actually may just happen tonight, as we are currently in the middle of a blizzard).
    Just wondering......
    Thanks,
    Anneita

Yes, you can use external battery packs — but I wouldn't use one that I wasn't perfectly certain was very carefully controlled.
External battery packs specifically designed for MBPs:

    http://www.hypershop.com/HyperMac-External-MacBook-Battery-and-Car-Charger-s/91. htm
    http://www.quickertek.com/products/macbookprocharger.php
Another option, designed to protect sensitive equipment from power surges and enable uninterrupted computer usage during AC power outages and irregularities, is called an +uninterruptible power supply,+ and the leading manufacturer of such devices — which incorporate storage batteries of various capacities — is APC:
