Cell Text Annotations of Hyperion Planning on Hyperion Financial Reporting

Hello,
There is a business requirement to show Cell text entered as annotation on each cells in data form to be reported using Hyperion Financial Reporting.
Also there is a case of some of the data types being text. Some of the forms also have supporting details.
Now I want to check how easy or difficult is it to report from Hyperion Planning V11.1.2 for the above mentioned.
Are there any noticeable performance issues?
Is it possible to report the cell text annotations , Supporting details & Datatype 'Text' from data form on Financial Report?
Thanks in advance,
XX

I haven't used the text data type, however I have done quite a bit of reporting on supporting detail. All you have to do is use a Hyperion Planning data source instead of an Essbase data source. (and specify on the report to show supporting detail). In general, Hyperion Planning data sources are slightly slower than Essbase data sources. How much slower depends on a lot of factors, but supporting detail can certainly slow things down.
One key limitation with reports that display this type of data is that it doesn't "roll up" the hierarchies. Your report has to be at the same level (in all dimensions) where the supporting detail was entered. So you can't pick an upper level Entity and show all of the supporting detail for it's descendants unless your report also includes the descendants. I understand why this limitation exists, but I routinely have clients that would like this functionality. (For Example - Show me all of the supporting details for the entire plan.)

  • Cache memory usage of Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting

We have installed Hyperion Planning, Workspace and Financial Reporting in one single server and we would like to know is there any cache memory setting can be fine tuned to improved the overall online performance of the system.
How can we control the memory usage of individual user logged into Workspace and Hyperion Planning? And if users generate a large size report in Financial Reporting, should more memory be allocated to the user so as to speed up the report generation speed?
    Thanks in advance!

Our onsite consultants told us that as we have many web forms and some web forms contains lot of cells, the compiled Hyperion Planning application is quite large (> 1GB) and sometimes may have "out of memory" problem. We just wonder we are using 64bit version of Windows 2003 we should have a much larger memory address space. How can we improve the "out of memory" issue?
Or Hyperion Planning is still a 32 bit application?

  • Creating an Hyperion Planning connection in Financial Reporting

We've got a lot of FM and Essbase reports, but now I'd like to connect to Planning so that I can display cell text in a report but I just can't get the connection setup from Workspace.
    Two things:
    1. There's no button to pick my Application as with other data sources. This looks odd but I'm not sure if it's normal.
    2. When I go to the database connection manager I'm asked for these details and I can't figure out what the "Select Database Connection" string should be:
    Database Connection Name: MED
    Type: Planning
    User ID: [me]
    Password: [my password]
    Application: MED
    Select Database Connection: ? http://[PlanningServer]/HyperionPlanning/ ?
This is what I've tried along with the SQL server, using IP address or FQDN.
    Kind Regards,

Provide a name for the connection
    Select planning as the type.
Enter the user id/password you want to use.
The application name and then the database is the plan type name you want to use.

  • What is major difference between hyperion planning and hyperion essbase

    hi
what is the differences between hyperion planning and hyperion essbase.i dont know about planning much.but as far i know.i think we can do every thing in essbase also(planning, budgeting and forecasting)
what u say.what we actually do in planning.
    regards
    bharat

    Hi Bharat
Although as you mention in your post Essbase can do plans/budgets etc it may not be simple to provide complex planning process control and ease of data entry etc.
Planning delivers these benefits and some through web delivered components such as forms, business rules and workflow for instance. There are some restrictions to using planning and these need tobe well understood before embarking on a project.
It would be worth having a look at product sheets from Oracle and/or presentations from various events to get a feel for planning capabilities.
    Hope this helps.

  • Hyperion Enterprise 6.4 Financial Reporting upgrade path

We are currently using Hyperion Enterprise 6.4 Financial Reporting and would like to know what the upgrade path is to the most recent version.
What is the most recent version and can our current version be upgraded directly to it, or will the latest version need to be installed on the same server or a different server?
    Let me know.
    Thanks.

The latest version for Financial Reporting available is EPM 11.1.2.2.
You may need to migrate first to 9.3.3 or 11.1.3.3 and then move to 11.1.2.2 which is the upgrade path.
You could refer the documentation for 11.1.2.2 in the following link : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/nav/portal_1.htm

  • Hyperion Planning vs Oracle Financial for departmental budgets

    Hello,
I was wondering what the consensus is between using Oracle Financials vs. Hyperion Planning for variance analysis purposes.
My contention is that HP is a best-in-breed budgeting/planning tool and should be used to house our departmental budgets/forecasts and that actuals should be fed from Oracle Financials (G/L) to Hyperion Planning for variance anlaysis purposes. Some of my piers disagree. They feel the budgeting/forecating data should be pushed to Oracle Financials for variance analysis purpose. They claim it will be easier to provide drill-back capability into the ledger to find the answer to their variances.
I really couldn't disagree more - to me the analytical capability of HP trumps any drill-back capability provided by Oracle Financials. In addition, if we use an ETL tool like FDM to feed actuals from Oracle into HP, can't I drill back to the transactional data (actuals) via FDM? In addition, since we budget at a summary account level, how can you push summary planning data in HP to detailed transactional accounts in the G/L - pushing "one to many" doesn't make sense to me.
Anyway, just looking for some expert opinions on the subject. Much appreciated - Thanks

    Hi,
We are currently in the final phase of implementing Oracle Financials and Hyperion for the same purpose that you have described in your post. We use Oracle Financials to record actuals and then transfer it to Hyperion under the scenario 'Actual'. While the budget/forecast data in only entered/saved in Hyperion. There are several financial reports for variances that are generated out of Hyperion. So far, this arrangement is serving us pretty well. I second your point that in Hyperion, we can easily compare summary level data. We have Hyperion reports that do variances calculations for sub-totals. In fact, we are also using HP reports for consolidated statements such as Balance sheet, Income statement etc. The actual data for these statements is coming from GL.
As for drill through functionality (from HP to sub-ledger details in financials), we are in process of implementing FDM and use it for both (1) loading data and (2) drill through.
    Hope this helps.

  • Display Hyperion Planning celltext in OBIEE reports.

    Hi,
The requirement is to display the Hyperion Planning comments entered in the forms on the corresponding OBIEE reports. I have been able to retrieve details about the author, note contents along with the corresponding dimensions by considering the following tables:
    1.HSP_CELL_NOTE
    2.HSP_CELL_NOTE_ITEM
    3.HSP_OBJECT
    4.HSP_USER
But I am confused about the subsequent approach I need to take. How should the federation be done with the Essbase cube in the OBIEE repository? How should the comments be tagged to the specific OBIEE reports corresponding to the Hyperion Planning forms?
I am using Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.2 and OBIEE 11.1.1.6.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi Celvin,
Many thanks for your reply. But can you please elaborate on the steps?
When I extracted data from Essbase (planning application), it does not generate ID columns for the dimensions that can be used to match with the HSP_OBJECT.OBJECT_ID. So I am not able to understand the logic behind joining the IDs.
On the hyperion planning relational tables,I ran the following Query to retrieve the Note for comment and the corresponding Dimension members:
    SELECT HYPUSER.HSP_CELL_NOTE.NOTE_ID,
    HYPUSER.HSP_CELL_NOTE_ITEM.CONTENTS,
    HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT.OBJECT_NAME AS Scenario,
    HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT1.OBJECT_NAME AS Account,
    HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT2.OBJECT_NAME AS Entity,
    HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT3.OBJECT_NAME AS Period,
    HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT4.OBJECT_NAME AS Version,
    HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT5.OBJECT_NAME AS YEAR
    FROM HYPUSER.HSP_CELL_NOTE
    INNER JOIN HYPUSER.HSP_CELL_NOTE_ITEM
    ON HSP_CELL_NOTE.NOTE_ID = HSP_CELL_NOTE_ITEM.NOTE_ID
    LEFT JOIN HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT
    ON HSP_CELL_NOTE.DIM1 = HSP_OBJECT.OBJECT_ID
    LEFT JOIN HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT HSP_OBJECT1
    ON HSP_CELL_NOTE.DIM2 = HSP_OBJECT1.OBJECT_ID
    LEFT JOIN HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT HSP_OBJECT2
    ON HSP_CELL_NOTE.DIM3 = HSP_OBJECT2.OBJECT_ID
    LEFT JOIN HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT HSP_OBJECT3
    ON HSP_CELL_NOTE.DIM4 = HSP_OBJECT3.OBJECT_ID
    LEFT JOIN HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT HSP_OBJECT4
    ON HSP_CELL_NOTE.DIM5 = HSP_OBJECT4.OBJECT_ID
    INNER JOIN HYPUSER.HSP_OBJECT HSP_OBJECT5
    ON HSP_CELL_NOTE.DIM6 = HSP_OBJECT5.OBJECT_ID
    Thanks and regards,

  • Hyperion Web Analysis vs Financial Reports

    Hi All,
Can you pls. let me know what are the major differences between Hyperion Financial Reports and Hyperion Web Analysis ? For Planning application we generally use Financial Reports right ? Can't we use Hyperion Web Analysis ? What are the advantages & disadvantages of both FR & Web Analysis tools
    Thanks,

In a nut shell Hyperion Web Analysis is useful for reports having user drill downs. The end users will have the capability to drill down and select member from different Point of Views.
Financial Reports can be used for regulatory reporting and reports in standard format.
You can create reports in both Financial Reports and Web Analysis from Planning based on your requirement.
Please read the documentation for more information on the differences between the two products.

    Hi John,
I'm using FR extensively now and used Web Analysis before. We use FR for Good formatted Reports, where as Web Analysis we use for adhoc Reporting Purpose. users can do slicing/dicing, Drill down/up in Web Analysis Reports, where as this feature is not available completely in FR
We use FR for Planning right ? What is the main advantage of using FR over Planning ? I belive with Web Analysis over Planning may cause performance issues

    Hi NJ,
You can find the Code of your technology if you double click the technology in the topology.
    Hyperion Planning : HYPERION_PLANNING
    Hyperion Essbase : HYPERION_ESSBASE
    Hope it helps.

  • ODI Integration - Hyperion Planning inbound to GL

    ODImates,
I am designing a full integration (2 way-sided) from EBS-GL to Hyperion Planning and Hyperion Planning back to EBS-GL.
The first side is almost finished, I extract the information from GL and create the specific format used by OTL Loader to update both metadata and data.
But my problem is when I want to reverse Planning application data and return it to update GL... I had no information of how ODI can do such thing. Or maybe anyone can give me some idea of how create Open interfaces to accomplish that task in an automated way.
Hope to know about you soon

You will need to extract the data from essbase and load into a staging area where it can be transformed for going back into EBS.
I wrote an article on extracting essbase data with ODI in the past - http://john-goodwin.blogspot.com/2008/12/odi-series-extracting-data-from-essbase.html

  • Copy and paste cell content of web form of Hyperion Planning

Our end users encountered performance issues in using the web forms of Hyperion Planning. We have some large web form with 60 columns and 100 rows i.e. around 6000 cells. When end user move around the cell they feel a slow response in the web form especially when copy and paste some cell content from one row to another, or a few cells from one position to other position.
Anyone got similar experience in using web form? Also we understand that Hyperion design will check the cell content of each cell and generate a SQL query to the backend metadata database. It is quite time consuming and waste CPU resource because most of the time our end user will not keep the text information under each cell. We have consulted Oracle team and understand that we cannot disable the cell content checking via SQL query.
Any workaround solution exists to reduce or remove the performance issue in cell content copy and paste?
    Thanks!

We had faced the same issue a few years ago. One of our geeks had done a change in either Enterdata.js or Enterdata.jsp which disabled form cell validation. I don't currently have the code with me but it wasn't a big change really, remarking a function could be doing the trick.
I don't think this is officially recommended by Oracle though.

We will try to locate the enterdata.jsp and enterdata.js and found out where the SQL being executed. We found out the Enterdata.js under the deployment directory of Weblogic. However it is over 400KB size and many many lines of codes. We think that it is very difficult to locate where should be customized to remove the SQL checking on cell content.
