Cellphones, bluetooth and serial connections

I have used a GPRS-connection with my Powerbook connected to my cellphone via bluetooth for a couple of years now. However, I have one problem with this setup - I have several cellphones (A, B, C) and subscriptions (1, 2, 3) and I can only connect with the most recently paired phone. In other words, if I first pair A with my computer and try to connect using 1 it works fine. I then pair B and try to connect through 1 (I have moved the SIM-card for 1 from A to B) it still works fine but when I now try to connect using A, the connection, and this is no surprise, fails. The reason it is no surprise is because the computer still tries to connect using B.
I don't know why this happens, but there seems to be some limitation in Mac OS X/the Bluetooth setup process which only allows it to use the most recently paired phone.
In other words, in the situation described above, the only way to be able to connect using A again is to "unpair" both A and B and the "re-pair" A.
Very annoying. However, after digging around a bit in the Bluetooth prefs I found: Devices tab -> select a phone in the device list -> Edit Serial Ports… where you can add serial ports (two different types of serial ports: "Dial-up networking" as well as "Serial port") for your devices and then make them visible in the Network pref pane. I guess this means that it is possible to add a serial port that belongs to a specific BT-device and then create a network location that uses this port/device and suddenly my problem would have disappeared.
The problem is that this window is unsupported. Yes, I have called Apple Assistance and they specifically says that this window is not supported by them, not even if I paid a technician or engineer at Apple (I support more than 20 users at my company that needs this functionality, hence my eagerness to pay for support). They actually laughed at me when I said I was prepared to pay to have this issue escalated.
Back to my question: I have tried to add both types of ports in different combinations but when I try to connect it still fails. In Mac OS X I get the following error message:
The modem has unexpectedly hungup. Please verify your settings and try again.
and a verbose internet connection log looks like this:

Any ideas how to get this to work?

I wonder if just using Network>Configure>Show>Network Port Configurations, then selecting the existing Bluetooth/Serial connection and duplicating it as many times as needed, the editing them wouldn't help... then you could just have a location for eack Phone.

    hi everyone
how do you in xcode search devices in bluetooth and stablish connection other devices whit iphone or ipad ?
    the all answer is good
and the source is enable for all

Bluetooth on iOS has three different functions:
o user level features -- For example, headsets.  There is no developer opportunity here (well, you can play audio that comes out the headset, but you know what I mean :-).
o networking -- You can establish a PAN network to other iPhone OS devices with GameKit (going away)  or Bonjour.
o accessories -- All Bluetooth accessory developers must go through the Made for iPod program.  Once you have an MFI device you can then talk to it through ExternalAccessory framework.

  • PC Suite - no USB and Serial Connection Type avail...

I have been trying to solve this problem for days now. I have Windows XP and Nokia 5310. After I installed Nokia PC Suite, there is no USB or Serial connection type in the Connection Manager; it only has Blue Tooth and Infrared conection available. I have install and uninstalled PC suite and used PC Suite Cleaner to clean the installation. I also went into the add and remove program in the control panel and click on "change" to fix the Nokia Connection Manager and Nokia Connectivity Cable Driver. It still didn't work. The thing is that the first time when installed PC Suite on my laptop, it did have USB connection option. Later after uninstalled PC Suite and reinstalled it, it start to have this problem. I am extremly frustrated. Can anyone help please?

Thanks for your reply. I have solved the problem by following your instruction below:
Go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Software, there you need to uninstall all Nokia software (Nokia PC Suite, Nokia Cable driver, PC Connectivity Solution ...)
Download and run Nokia PC Suite Cleaner
    Reboot your computer
Download and install PC Suite here.
Connect your phone via USB cable (if possible use a different USB jack) and follow the instructions on the screen.
Maybe when I uninstalled Chinese version of PC suite, the order in which it was uninstalled was not the one you suggested above. So,I followed your instruction and uninstall order to uninstall PC Suite again. I also uninstalled all the antivirus, spyware, and firewall before I reinstall the PC Suite. It worked; then, I reinstalled all the other security software again after I had reinstalled the PC Suite. Although it worked, I still didn't know what exactly cause the problem the first place, PC Suite version, Security protection software, or the order which it was uninstalled? All it matters is it's working.

  • Nokia Lumia 1520 - Bluetooth and Data Connectivity...

Hi - i recently updated my Nokia lumia 1520 with a new firmware that Nokia tool told me being available.  after that i have consistantly having bluetooth connectivity issues and Data connectivity issues.
i have a Jabra Clipper bluetooth headset which .  i am no longer able to pair it. it detect and says jabra clipper, then starts pairing, then simply says couldn't connect.
if i have wifi on, if i go out of range of the WIFI signal, my data connection stops working as well.  this is 100% of the time.  i have to reboot my phone to get data connectivity back.
    Its on Lumia Cyan
    manufacturer name: RM-937-im_mea3_1019
    core build id: 7030.80
    bsp release: 2061.0066
    applicatoin versoin: 3.11.2.1
    build creation date: 7/8/2014
    from Nokia software recovery tool:
    Product Code: 059V479
    Software Version: 02061.00066.14253.40002

Because I am just an end-user like you and I do not have your hardware combination here, I can only give general advice. Could be a new interoperability issue between these two devices, introduced with Lumia Cyan. Could be a old wrong pair-key. Or could be interfering between your Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (Bluetooth Adaptive Channel Hopping). Therefore, let us start with the Bluetooth part:
on the Nokia Lumia 1520, Settings » Wi-Fi » Off (to avoid any interference)
on the Nokia Lumia 1520, Settings » Bluetooth » On
(status: paired) tap and hold your Jabra CLIPPER » delete (if paired already)
on the Jabra CLIPPER, press and hold the multi-function button until the indicator light is solid blue (approximately 6 seconds) to activate the paring mode
Your Bluetooth headset should appear in your phone now. After you tapped on it, it should be paired successfully. Does it?
If not, start over again and between step 1 and 2, power off both Jabra CLIPPER and Nokia Lumia 1520.
If it still does not work, start over and between step 1 and 2, please hold volume down + power until the Nokia Lumia 1520 turns off (soft reboot; do not forget to set your date/time afterwards).
If it still does not work, start over and between step 1 and 2, turn off your Wi-Fi access point.
    Does it work now?

    Hey maricel737
There are two different articles that go over troubleshooting steps for solving issues with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This first one goes over Wi-Fi on your iPad:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398
This next one outlines suggestions for Bluetooth on your iPad:
iOS: Third-party Bluetooth headsets, headphones, and keyboards
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1664
On the Bluetooth one, I'd just skip ahead to the "Additional Information" section where the troubleshooting steps start.
    Best,

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Bluetooth and iPod connections in car

I have an Acura TSX, which I did pair with an iPhone at the store with no problems. My question is, how does it work with the auxilary input? Will the car stereo play the iPod, if the iPhone is paired with the car? and will the audio stop when a call comes in as the radio or a CD does?
    thanks!!

  • How to completely turn off Bluetooth and Wireless

    Hey everybody,
I'm running Windows XP SP3 via Boot Camp and I was wondering if anyone can assist me in how to completely turn off Bluetooth and Wireless connectivity so that I can reserve as much batter life while being in class taking notes without a plug-in source, but not uninstall. I know there is a Bluetooth control panel and I disabled it there but under "connect to" its still remains there. Basically I want to have the Bluetooth and Wireless turned off completely when I startup and still have the icons shown in the taskbar to let me know that they are still there.
    Thanks!

Joergen Thomson, I can see that you have the same thoughts like I do, I wish they could release a software that is stable and better then this.
I dont have the energi or time to report all flaus back to cisco, this product have taking to much of my time and frustration already. Thank you so much for all the time you spend to try get this product stable and hopefully a good product.
I have a costumer that have a webservice that is IP restricted, For now I have to define more then 93 policys openening for the same service because this doesnt handle address list and groups. And all the times I had to set it back to factory default becasue of HTTP Admin server stopped, VPN Problem, Firmware Upgrades, "Packet Loss" and so on takes alot of time becasue I need to reconfig policies back.
For now to they release a firmware is stable I have take this piece off the network and put the back a old Fortinet 60 box.

  • Why does the IPOD Touch bluetooth refuse the connection to my cellphone and declare it "unsupported"?

I'm trying to transfer a picture from a Motorola Razr Cellphone via Bluetooth.  The cellphone discovers and connects to the IPOD Touch.  The IPOD touch discovers the cellphone but refuses to pair and declares the cellphon an "unsupported device".  The passkeys are equal so what is the deal?  Incompatiable versions of Bluetooth?

It isn't designed to work like that.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647 for supported bluetooth profiles

  • TS3048 Bluetooth and USB ports aren't working can't connect mouse or keyboard.

Bluetooth and USB ports aren't working, so am unable to use Imac past turning it on. There's no way to connect mouse or keyboard, it started right after a software update for Maverick (OS X bash Update 1.0 – OS X Mavericks), bluetooth symbol not showing in the task bar at all.

    Hi SBrwn,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The symptom you're describing can be frustrating to troubleshoot as our options are limited. I do suggest resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) if you have not already. This step can help you regain use of USB and Bluetooth.
Follow these steps to reset the SMC on your iMac:
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
Shut down the computer. [by holding down the power button]
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
You can find these steps and more information at this link:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    All the best,
    Jeremy

    Hi Tomiwa,
You cannot print from the iPad to that printer. AirPrint and Bluetooth are completely different.
There may be apps you can buy that will enable using that printer, but that is not an ideal solution.
That particular printer has had many bad reviews, and is unreasonably expensive for its features. Considering that you just bought the printer, as well as its lack of AirPrint, I suggest you return it and buy a printer that supports AirPrint.

  • How do I configure my bluetooth on my iPod Touch 4G to automatically play music when connected and to connect as media not a phone?

Is there any way to have my iPod Touch automatically start playing music when it connects to my car stereo via Bluetooth?
Also, I would like the option to connect to my car stereo as media only and not as a phone. My car stereo supports the ability to connect to a phone via Bluetooth simultaneously with another device such as my iPod Touch as a media source. The problem is that if my iPod Touch connects first it will force out my phone from connecting via Bluetooth since it connects as a phone as well as media. I have been able to make this whole setup work by turning both my phone's Bluetooth off and my iPod Touch's Bluetooth off. Then turning my phone's Bluetooth on first and allowing it to connect. Then changing the Bluetooth option on my phone to only connect as phone. Then turning my iPod Touch's Bluetooth on and that works just fine. Both devices respond perfectly but for that to work I have to do that process everytime I get into my car. Is there anyway to set this up so I don't have to go through all of this hassle?
Btw my iPod Touch has been updated to version 4.3.5.
Any suggestion, comments, or concerns would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Jon

If you store itunes andn iphoto library on the TC you could be in trouble. The TC has no auto backup mechanism.. it is simply unable to work as a true NAS. It has no media servers. It is slow.. it is very easy to corrupt libraries especially in connection over wireless. In general we recommend people do not do this.
If you go ahead anyway.. apple have specific instructions for moving the libraries.. do follow it.
I am not sure if the SONOS can play directly from itunes library or has to use an itunes server.. remember the TC is a dumb as a board router with no media servers. Apple TV also need an active itunes to work AFAIK.. you cannot play files.. unless you JB the ATV.
Also be careful as SONOS does not like apple names.. use all SMB compatible names.. short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.
Finally yes,.. at last .. you can extend the wireless in the TC using another apple router.. you cannot extend wireless using any other brand.
