Cellular Data and Wifi Problem

Hi Guys.  I wonder if you can advise?
I have an iPhone 4S on a monthly contract with an unlimited cellular data plan.  The phone is set to Settings-General-Cellular-On= Cellular Data On, Enable 3G On, Data Roaming On.  Also, Settings-Wi-Fi On-Ask To Join Networks.
My phone finds and connects to my home network when I come back to the house but when I'm out it will not connect to any other Wifi network.  I have tried all of the resets and stuff but no good.  When I try to connect to a new network the Login page comes up but no details and then the remote server times out.  If I go to Safari and try to access a web page I just get the pop up asking me to join a Wifi Network and when I do an error popup shows saying that the network is unavailable.
Messing around with the phone I have found that if I turn off Cellular Data (web, 3G, email push using wifi only) I can access other networks but, of course, have no 3G cellular data service unless I am in a wifi hotspot.
Is there a way to make the phone switch to cellular data on 3G when out of range of wifi and back again?
Anyway, if anyone can advise it would be appreciated.
Regards
Paul

UPDATE:
Turning off Cellular Data at a local wifi spot (not used before) didn't work this time.  However, turning off Cellular and going into Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings then acquiring the wifi network did. I could then turn Cellular Data back on and use the wifi spot.
Will try at another hotspot soon to see if the phone will automatically ask to join the network and allow me to do so without doing the above, as I don't want to be re-inputting other network passwords etc over and over again.

  • When iPhone is on Cellular data and WiFi, i cannot make calls and phone goes out of service.

So I have this iPhone 5S unlocked version from the US which I am using in India. When I am connected to my office wireless and also the cellular & 3G data are switched on, my phone goes out of service and I cannot make calls. I can also use internet.
However this works great when I get onto my home WiFi along with cellular & 3G data switched on, I can make calls and also surf the net with the WiFi.
Is anyone having similar issue? I am sure there is something with the office WiFi but what could it be to get my phone out of service.
    Any thoughts anybody ?
    Thanks,
    UG

Yes I shutdown WiFi and I can connect to 3G on Cellular. I can make calls.
If I shutdown Cellular and connect WiFi. I can make calls.
Its just that when both are ON, then no calls can be made.
All combinations work good with Home WiFi.

  • Can anyone clarify the difference in usage with Cellular Data and 3G ??

I've been reading through a few posts regarding the data usage of
    the iPhone 3G(S) and 4.
And there still seems to be questions asking how cellular data and
3G enabled are consuming data info.
I have the 3GS and currently have 3G disabled, but left cellular data on so that I can have "free data access" to wi-fi
networks. But since doing this I notice I'm currently about 75MB into my 200MB plan.
Is this 75MB data going off my actually monthly data plan, or is it the iPhone keeping track of my data usage?
Also on the iPhone it shows my Cellular Data sent 6.4MB.
Can someone clarify what kind of usage justifies what is being sent? Is this emails, Pandora, buying apps, maps, etc??
I just need clarity with this so if need be I can change the way I use my data.
    thanks in advance ~A~

3G is a cellular network protocol. If you turn this off using the "Enable 3G" setting, your iPhone will fall back to an older, slower cellular data technology called Edge, but will still use your cellular network for data when no wifi is available.
The "Cellular Data" setting in iPhone will completely disable all methods of accessing data over the cell network. If this setting is turned off, the "Enable 3G" setting becomes redundant, because iPhone won't use any cellular data.
By turning "Cellular Data" off, your iPhone will only use wifi when available. If no wifi network is available, you won't be able to access any data.

  • HT201415 dear i purchased apple iphone 4 s from saudi arabia. i have checked all the setting available on apple website but my cellular data and 3g are still not working. i m really disappointed by apple product.

Can you please tell me the apple service center in jeddah saudi arabia or any authorised dealer who can claim my issues ?

Cellular data and whether 3G works on your phone has nothing to do with the phone itself.  This is the responsibility of your phone company/carrier and is linked to the sim card that you have inserted into your phone.
You don't need to go to a service centre, but you do need to contact your phone company - cellular data and 3G is their responsibility and not Apple's.
Also, this is a public user forum, so you are not addressing Apple here.

Why and how do I fix this?  When I go into cellular data and view account it says my ipad is activated and ready to go.  What gives???
It was working fine up until I upgraded the OS which I hadn't done in many versions so the ipad was not working as well as it should.  Now it is searching for the network.

        Hello noodles074!
Let's get your device working again! It's possible that your device just needs to be reprovisioned on our network. Please go to Settings>General>Reset>Subscriber Services>Reprovision Account. This may take several minutes. After allowing about 5 minutes for completion, please power your iPad off and back on, and test it again. Let us know if this takes care of it!

  • When you turn off cellular data and use wifi, do you still pay monthly?

    Hi

If you use wifi, you are not using your cellular data, but your monthly plan would still be charged even if you don't use it.  That's why its a monthly plan rather than a prepaid contract, where you pay upfront, and when your balance runs out you stop getting service.
In that case Using Wifi would keep you from using your prepaid balance.
But again a Monthly contract is charged wether you use it or not for the specified amount of time. Usually for a Year sometimes more.

  • Cellular data and 3g keeps turning on by itself

i have an iphone 4 on ios 7.0.4 and it was working fine but since 2 hours ago the cellular data network and the 3g keeps turning on by them self even when i'm connected to wifi and when i turn them off they turn back on again every singe time !!!!! why is that happening ???
ps: the only thing i did in the last 2 hours was restarting the phone , i don't know if that has anything to do with it
so can anyone tell me how to make it stop doing that

I think if you have email on a schedule to be checked, Windows Mobile will try to reestablish your connection. You might try changing the schedule (or having mail checked Manually) and see whether that solves the issue.

  • 'No service' and wifi problems...

I have an iPhone 5 and when I am in certain places I find it difficult to gain signal from my carrier anywhere, especially in my house or even my street. I'm with EE and whenever I do get signal it's either one bar (or dot in the case of this iPhone) or very rarely I get two.
I also have problems with connecting to my wifi. When I am downstairs (and in the same room as my broadband router) I can access the wifi fine but as soon as I go upstairs the connection disappears and says 'Not Connected'. When I search for any other connections it shows nothing. My iPhone is up to date and currently on iOS 8.1. I also have an iPod 4th Generation but I don't experience this at all with my iPod. In fact, when using my iPod upstairs I usually get 3 bars of wifi connectivity.
I've had my iPhone 5 for nearly a year now and I've have this problem once before for about two weeks. This has been going on for about two months now. I have no clue how to solve this or even where to start. I don't know how this problem came about and nor can I relate it to anything I've accidentally turned off or on. I've tried resetting my phone and resetting all my network settings but nothing seems to have solved the problem.
I hope someone will help me because my phone is becoming useless whenever I'm upstairs in my house.
    Thank you.

  • Does iMessage work only with Cellular data, without WiFi, on iPad?

    Hi,
I am unable to send iMessages (to iPhone from my iPad).
I am not connected to WiFi. And only use Cellular data..
Is it compulsory to be on WiFi to send iMessages?
When I try to send, it shows an error message: iMessage is not Delivered.

I understand the the iPad can't send SMS, it is not a phone, and SMS uses the voice connection not the data connection.  iPad has only a data connection.
Thanks for the responses.  I am inclinded to believe that the carrier has no control over the data being sent and that it couldn't stop Messages (or any other app) even if it wanted to and I really really hate trying to call and speak with Verizon.  Really hate it.
Put that together with my experience that if something is supposed to work, but doesn't it is probably me.  I'm still thinking that my friends and I all have something not set right, but what?
The correction steps talked about all assume that if Messages works with Wi-Fi it will work for cellular.  Messages works just fine when I have Wi-Fi, but doesn't work when I'm on Verizon LTE cellular data.    Should Messages show up in Setting >> Cellular Data >> Use Cellular Data For: ?  I get the feeling that since it doesn't appear here as an app that can use cellular data, it can't.  So the question is, how can I get the Messages app to use cellular data?

  • With two iPhones 4, turning on Facetime on both iPhones, turning on Data Roaming, Enable 3G, cellular data.  Wifi has been enabled on, Wi-Fi is on, 'ask to join networks' is on.  I cannot get the two iPhones 4 to do 'FaceTime' with each other.  Changes?

May 16, 2011:  The two iPhone 4 phones, being next to each other, cannot do FaceTime.  with Data Roaming = On, Wi-Fi = On, 'Ask to join Networks' = On, Enable 3G = On, Cellular Data = On,
Why is Facetime on one iPhone 4 not connecting to ther other iPhone 4 when both have the 'FaceTime' icon showing on both?

I will through that note and have applied the items in that note on both iPhones.  Both iPhones are in the same physical location.  Both appear to be connected to a wi-fi network.  Still no FaceTime connection.  Is it such that both iPhones must be connected to a Wi-Fi and that wifi must be a network without a password needed to join it?  I thought 'Data Roaming = On' was such that iPhone 4 would then find a wifi network without a password needed and one could use FaceTime.
Is that the incorrect assumption?   If yes or no, what specific items are needed to be checked before I do this again or be checked while attempting FaceTime.

  • Null Date and Time Problem

I created my entity classes from a database by using netbeans 6.0 and I'm using H2 as a database. I've the following table in my database.
    CREATE CACHED TABLE OPEN_TABLE ( ID INTEGER GENERATED BY DEFAULT AS IDENTITY(START WITH 0) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, TABLE_ID INTEGER, WAITER_ID INTEGER, OPEN_HOUR TIME DEFAULT CURRENT_TIME, OPEN_DATE DATE DEFAULT CURRENT_DATE );
and here is the entity class netbeans created for me.
    import java.io.Serializable; import java.util.Date; import javax.persistence.Column; import javax.persistence.Entity; import javax.persistence.Id; import javax.persistence.NamedQueries; import javax.persistence.NamedQuery; import javax.persistence.Table; import javax.persistence.Temporal; import javax.persistence.TemporalType; /** * * @author Yupp */ @Entity @Table(name = "OPEN_TABLE") @NamedQueries({@NamedQuery(name = "OpenTable.findById", query = "SELECT o FROM OpenTable o WHERE o.id = :id"), @NamedQuery(name = "OpenTable.findByTableId", query = "SELECT o FROM OpenTable o WHERE o.tableId = :tableId"), @NamedQuery(name = "OpenTable.findByWaiterId", query = "SELECT o FROM OpenTable o WHERE o.waiterId = :waiterId"), @NamedQuery(name = "OpenTable.findByOpenHour", query = "SELECT o FROM OpenTable o WHERE o.openHour = :openHour"), @NamedQuery(name = "OpenTable.findByOpenDate", query = "SELECT o FROM OpenTable o WHERE o.openDate = :openDate")}) public class OpenTable implements Serializable {     private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;     @Id     @Column(name = "ID", nullable = false)     private Integer id;     @Column(name = "TABLE_ID")     private Integer tableId;     @Column(name = "WAITER_ID")     private Integer waiterId;     @Column(name = "OPEN_HOUR")     @Temporal(TemporalType.TIME)     private Date openHour;     @Column(name = "OPEN_DATE")     @Temporal(TemporalType.DATE)     private Date openDate;     public OpenTable() {     }     public OpenTable(Integer id) {         this.id = id;     }     public OpenTable(Integer id, Date openHour, Date openDate) {         this.id = id;         this.openHour = openHour;         this.openDate = openDate;     }     public Integer getId() {         return id;     }     public void setId(Integer id) {         this.id = id;     }     public Integer getTableId() {         return tableId;     }     public void setTableId(Integer tableId) {         this.tableId = tableId;     }     public Integer getWaiterId() {         return waiterId;     }     public void setWaiterId(Integer waiterId) {         this.waiterId = waiterId;     }     public Date getOpenHour() {         return openHour;     }     public void setOpenHour(Date openHour) {         this.openHour = openHour;     }     public Date getOpenDate() {         return openDate;     }     public void setOpenDate(Date openDate) {         this.openDate = openDate;     }     @Override     public int hashCode() {         int hash = 0;         hash += (id != null ? id.hashCode() : 0);         return hash;     }     @Override     public boolean equals(Object object) {         // TODO: Warning - this method won't work in the case the id fields are not set         if (!(object instanceof OpenTable)) {             return false;         }         OpenTable other = (OpenTable) object;         if ((this.id == null && other.id != null) || (this.id != null && !this.id.equals(other.id))) {             return false;         }         return true;     }     @Override     public String toString() {         return "OpenTable[id=" + id + "]";     } }
The problem is when I try to insert a new OpenTable to the database, Open_Date and Open_Hour columns stay as null. I want them to get the automatic CURRENT_DATE and CURRENT_TIME values. I can't see where the problem is because I used CURRENT_DATE and CURRENT_TIME words when I created the table. I don't have any problems when I use standart SQL statements to insert a new row. I just use INSERT INTO OPEN_TABLE(TABLE_ID, WAITER_ID) VALUES(2,3) and get current date and hour values automatically but JPA doesn't do that for me. What should I do to solve the problem?

Those database defaults are only applied when you use an INSERT statement that specifies a list of columns excluding the ones with defaults. Presumably your persistence code always sets all columns when it does an INSERT, so the defaults won't apply. You'll have to find the way to set the defaults in the persistence layer, not in the database.

  • IMessage is using cellular data over WiFi?

    Hi,
Today I've noticed that even if I'm connected to a WiFi, when I'm sending/receiving an iMessage, the cellular data usage statistic is increasing with a couple of KBs.
I don't understand...wasn't supposed that an iMessage will use the wifi network when it is available?
