Cellular modem is not recognised by Leopard

Hi. My CMOTech CCU-550 cellular modem worked fine with 10.4.10.
Since I installed Leopard, even after checking all the configurations I keep getting the message that "the device does not exist" when I try to connect.
My supplier tech support does not support (ie does not know anything about) macs...
Anybody out there with any ideas?

I'm using a HUAWEI HSDPA USB Modem to access the internet via GPRS 2G & 3G. (Vodafone NZ)
Activity Monitor in Tiger showed up and downloads in Network, in Leopard nothing.
Tiger's Internet connect is now part of Leopard's System Prefs > Network.
I use the modem status icon from there, on the menu bar, to get online.
Does System Pref > Network show the modem?
Do you have a Mac OSX disc from your internet provider? if so check for an update, reinstall anyway.
I often get the modem not found message after a restart. Unplug from USB count slowly to 10 and reattach, wait for a minute and try again. Try a different USB if available. If you have third party connect software from your internet provider try that, three or four times somedays. Try alternating with the menu bar option.
Mine tells me to use the Internet connect App which of course doesn't exist in Leopard. I use the menu bar option instead. Seems to take a while to get noticed some days
I use CheetahWatch software to keep track now Activity Monitor no longer works. It works, very well.

Hope this helps.
Cut out again with modem not found ~ only had to try three times
It wasn't any better with Tiger.

  • HP Scanjet Professional 1000 Mobile Scanner not recognised snow leopard

    hi
I have purchased a HP Scanjet Professional 1000 Mobile Scanner
The scanner however does not seem to work with ANY recognised scanner software for MAC.
I have expensive Readyiris and Adobe X software with scan functionality but the scanner does not get recognised.
On the windows CD I found one folder with MAC drivers. it installed a really basic HP scan program which is really bad..
    Is all lost....?

I assume you have tried Image Capture and Preview?  Have you tried to reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
    - Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Airport not recognised with Leopard

I've just installed leopard and I now can't seem to join my airport express to my main wireless network (my non-mac wireless router). I can restart the airport as a base station and stream itunes to it, but then I can't connect to the web and listen to music.
When I reset the airport express the airport utility recognises it. I then go through the process of joining a network and naming the airport express for use with itunes, and all seems to go well. However, the airport express then doesn't restart properly and is no longer recognised by the airport utility. iTunes at first recognises the airport express as a remote speaker but then can't connect to it.
    I didn't have these problems with OS X 10.4.10
    Any thoughts?

I seem to have solved this problem by downgrading the Airport Express software to 7.4.1. As soon as this was completed, my wife's MacBook was once again able to find the Airport Express and connect to it.
Perhaps this will be helpful to someone else.

  • All firewire devices not recognised after upgrading to Leopard 10.5.4

Hello, yesterday I finally got around to upgrading one of my home computers (old Emac G4 powerpc from 2005) to Leopard. I have been using Leopard on my work computer (G5 also from 2005) with no problems for a year now (this Leopard update was installed professionally when. I work with a lot of files on external hd's, mostly Lacies, one Maxtor and yesterday got new G-Drive 1TB. Since the upgrade the Emac will not recognise any of the external hds when connected by Firewire. It will recognise them if I use the USB. However I'm sending too much media traffic (film editing) to just use usb all the time. I need my firewire connections!
This is clearly a Leopard issue, there are no problems with the drives or the firewire connections or the cables, they all work fine on the work computer and my other home computer (powerbook laptop G4) and as I said the upgraded emac will recognise them from usb. And since it's three different kinds of drives that all work on other computers but all stopped working on the single Leopard upgrade it's not a Lacie, Maxtor or G-drive problem.
I've seen a lot of threads on this and other support forums about firewire problems but some are a slightly different problem and many are quite old so I wonder if anyone has any recent experience/advice for me?
Many threads complain that Apple was not recognising the problem, maybe there is also some progress there?
thanks in advance for any help!

It's still possible that there is now a hardware issue, and if so it might respond to resetting the FireWire bus. This can often be done by just unplugging the power cord for a few minutes.

  • AirPort express not recognising internet signal from cable modem

my airport express is not recognising the internet connection. It is connected directly via a cable modem (which has full strength when connected directly to the PC) and when networked to the PC it shows in airport utility but when configuring it returns an error message saying it is not recognising an internet signal. the unit can't be faulty as I have just replaced this one with a brand new replacement and the problem is the same. Is there a setting i have missed which is not allowing the signal through from the modem ?

It is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking gear whenever you change network hardware. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on how to do so.

  • I have downloaded snow leopard and it is not recognising that i have, i need to in order to update to mavericks, I have downloaded snow leopard and it is not recognising that i have, i need to in order to update to mavericks

Basically, I bought snow leopard and just installed it but its not recognising the fact that I've installed it. I've tried twice and it has restarted both times, but it hasn't done anything, and I need that to update to Mavericks, which I really need to do. Please help!

    Then you've installed Snow Leopard.
It needs to be 10.6.8 so download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. Then try installing Mavericks.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    A. Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks

    Hello,
I have tried to download Firefox onto my Macbook - with snow leopard running system. When I try to open Firefox the message is 'not recognised'. I really want Firefox - please can you help?
    Thank you.

It's referring to another application that is running on your PC.  Temporarily disable any A/V software you have running on the system and try to restore it again.  Make sure you don't have any other software/programs on your PC that could be scanning or interfering with the restore process.

  • APC UPS not recognised by Energy Saver in Snow Leopard

Hi I recently bought an APC Back-UPS ES 700G for my mid 2008 Mac Pro.
I had success testing the UPS on a mac at an Apple Store near where I bought the UPS - But Energy Saver on my home Mac Pro does not recognise that there is a UPS installed. - The UPS appears in System Profiler normally.
Im running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, from memory mac os x has inbuilt software that should detect the unit.
I will not that the mac I testsed the ups on was a MacBook Pro running Mavericks.
Any Thoughts on what's happened? I'd really like to have a unit that works.

Even worse to use it though!  Use it for peripherals but do not use it for the Mac Pro itself - or put it on surge only might get you by for now.

  • My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

My Imac late 2012 running Yosemite does not recognise my Huawei 3g usb modem. itried to install Java bt still it does not although the same modem works with my MacBook pro . any help please

    Hey there mbarikiwa,
If your iMac still has not recognized the usb modem, I would use the troubleshooting for Yosemite USB issues in the following article:
OS X Yosemite: If a USB device isn’t working
If the device is connected to a USB hub:
Make sure the device and the hub are the same speed. Connect USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices to a USB 3.0 SuperSpeed HUB, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed devices to a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed hub, and so on.
If the device doesn’t have a power cord and is plugged into another USB device that doesn’t have a power cord:
Try plugging the device directly into your computer’s USB port  or into a USB device that does have a power cord. You might need to disconnect and reconnect the other device as well, if it has stopped responding.
If you have many devices connected to your Mac:
Disconnect all USB devices except the device you’re testing, an Apple keyboard, and an Apple mouse. Make sure that the device is connected directly to the computer, and that any hubs or extension cables are disconnected. If you can use the device now, the problem may be with one of the other USB devices or hubs you had connected to your computer. Try reconnecting them, one by one, to your computer. When you find the device causing the problem, review its documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
Verify that the device appears in System Information:
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac. In the window that appears, click Overview, then click the System Report button to open System Information.
In the window that appears, see if the USB device is listed below Hardware in the Contents list. If the device appears but does not work, review the device’s documentation for further troubleshooting steps.
    Restart apps:
Quit and restart any apps that use the device.
    Restart your Mac:
    Choose Apple menu > Restart.
    Check your device’s USB connection
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Leopard does not recognise second scanner

I have 2 scanners connected to my Mac Mini, an Epson V700 and an Epson CX3650.
Under OSX 10.4 when starting Epson Scan I was presented a list of scanners where I could chose from and both scanners could be operated.
After upgrading to Leopard and installing the new drivers from Epson, Leopard only recognises the Epson V700. The CX3605 is an All-in-one and the printer works fine under Leopard.
If I only install Epson scan for the CX3650 it works fine.
How can I get both scanners recognised by Leopard?

Have you checked Epson's website for new drivers?
I had to reinstall the drivers for my Canon scanner for it to work properly.

  • I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?
Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
    Please can anybody help.
    Cheers,
    Dan_nz.

  • Equium M50 will not recognise the LAN port - error: Network Cable unplugged

I own a Toshiba Equium M50 and have problems with the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller.
I used to connect via an 'ADDON' Modem/ADSL Switch and had no problems. I then replaced the ADDON with a 'NETGEAR' DG834G ADSL Modem/Router to gain the wireless port, and since then my machine will not recognise the LAN port. <error: Network Cable unplugged>.
I know that the cables are OK as I used them with other laptops and had no trouble. I can also plug in a PCI card to connect without any problems. It looks to me as if the Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller has a problem with the netgear Modem/Router.
Anyone out there with a similar experience and some advice/suggestions?
    PLEASE

    Hi
For me it doesnt show like a LAN card problem but your router is a problem.
Check the device manager if the LAN card was properly recognized. If there are no yellow exclamation marks so everything is ok!
You can try to delete the LAN card from the device manager and after new reboot install the LAN driver again.
The issue has stared after installing or connecting the new Netgear modem router.
Therefore I would recommend to checking firstly the settings or to update the firmware on this router.

my itunes is running very very slow the rest of my pc is fine.
i tunes will not recognise either of my iphones "3gs,4, nor my ipod touch4".
i have uninstalled all apple software and re installed itunes .
i have checked my iphone at a retail store and it was found.
i have the latest version of ie "ie9" and itunes "10.2.2.12".
any ideas what to do ?

Hi Grant, Thanks for the response, much appreciated.
I agree that it should not really run slow however I would really like to upgrade to Lion anyway and thought that doing it via the SSD route would be  good way to do it as the SSD should help speed things up once I sort out the underlying issue at present. I also wanted to try and load lion but still have Snow Leopard available on the original drive for the time being till I knew that eveything was working well using Lion but I'm not sure if this is possible and how to do to this.
I have just clicked on 'Verify disk' on HD1 in the utility menu and there is a problem there. It is asking for me to start using another disk such as the mac installation disc but I am not sure where I have put this. Seeing as I have upgraded to SL would this now be the new installation disc and if so, do I just put the disc in the machine and restart?
    Thanks for your help
