Center-Cut Safe Zone

Is there a way to add the center-cut safe zone in Premiere?  In after effects the 1920x1080 safe zone has the center-cut lines but when I work in Premiere is just has the wide screen safe zone lines.

You can create any number of "guides" as PSD files. I use these to create a box-grid, or layout for PiP work. This ARTICLE goes into more detail. One can also easily create such in Titler.
Just remember to either turn the Track's Visibility OFF, or Delete, prior to Export.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Change the Colour of the title safe zones

Is there a way to change the yellow tittle safe zone colour, to something that can be seen over all colours.  yellow cant be seen over white and it makes it very difficult to use, FCP 7 used aqua Blue it worked much better.   PLease help, Or Apple PLEASE CHANGE the Colour or make it able to change for the user prefs.....

    Try this:

  • Safe Zone Suggestion

Hey guys, long time user, have an issue...
I love the ability to create different sequences in PPro CS5, but here is the goofiest thing I've ever seen. Why bond the safe zone settings to the project instead of to the sequence? Talk about broken...I create center-cut safe zones for my HD project, but when I open a SD sequence, time to go back into the project settings to reset back to DV safe zone percents.
It's pretty annoying. Anyone else with this issue?
By the way, my modified safe zone settings for center-cut safe HD are 39, 20, 32, 10, which works out pretty well and even keeps it pretty safe for scalers (dang APEX DTV boxes).

I haven't tried CS5, but in CS4 the safe zones are appropriate for each sequence.

  • Crop marks for Center Cut in Title Safe?

I have recently picked up Premiere Pro 5.5 after the whole Final Cut Pro X fiasco, and a feature I loved and used all the time in Final Cut Pro 7 which was missing in Final Cut Pro X was crop marks for Center Cut in the title safe. I often have to do HD Projects that are broadcast on 4:3 TV center cut, so you need to make all the graphics for the center cut for SD, and then leave safe space for the HD version.
From what I can see I don't see these marks in Premiere Pro 5.5. Is there a place for feature requests for Premiere Pro, so I can put in a request as this is something that is really necessary in our production workflow.

Well, PrPro's Titler has the Center Align for both Vertical & Horizontal, but for guides, etc., it is lacking.
I use the tips in this ARTICLE to create alignment guides, as per my needs.
I have been filing Feature Requests for years, and have also asked for many of the element Alignment functions from PS.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I also create custom guides/grids for PiP, where I need to match the Scale & Position for the PiP footage.
PPS - I assume that you have looked at Title & Action Safe marks, and they just do not do it for what you need.

  • Words in safe zone cut off

Hello I have a project with several movies on one DVD. I am using standard, not widescreen. When I export my movie out of final cut express, which is in dv-NTSC I preview it in iDVD and it shows a caption of widescreen preview. I re-exported it and the same thing happens to my slideshow. None of my other clips show that. Why is that? Is it effecting my safe zone? When I play the DVD on my tv some of my words in the safe zone aren't safe, not seen on the screen. Thanks.

Please help. I have looked at other discussions. I have cut the entire slideshow out of FInal Cut Express and repasted it in another Final Cut Express document. That doesn't change the "Widescreen Preview" in green. Like I said it doesn't show that on the other. I have deleted my preferences com.apple.idvd.plist
I have saved it to the desktop. I am at a loss and I need to get this project done today. Please help!

  • How can i make my imovie contents fit in tv safe zone in idvd?

    hi,
i have a project that i made in imovie, and imported into idvd in order to burn it to DVD. when i play the DVD in a regular player on a 27 inch TV (probably 6 years old) some of the images that have text on them are bleeding off the screen and you cannot read it. How can i fix this?
Is there a way to make imovie project smaller so it is sure to fit in TV safe zone? i can't seem to even select the tv safe zone when i have the imovie project selected in the maps view in idvd.
any help would be much appreciated!

I have had similar problems in the past.
Make your text smaller and keep it centered. Give yourself an invisible guide - like 2 inch margin on all sides. Then your DVD Project will never get cut off. I use LOTS of LiveType Text in Wedding DVD's and found that to cover all my bases. Bigger is not better. Smaller text also looks much clearer on a Standard NON HD 4x3 TV.
    Hope that helps.

  • Basic printing questions with safe zones, trim lines and bleeds

I am working with a file that has safe zones, trim lines and bleeds. If I place something that touches the outer edges of the document at the bleed zone, how will it display if there is a trim line before it? Won't it be trimmed anyways?
    Thanks.

Consider the bleed a precautionary measure in the case of registration variance when cutting the actual printed product.
So it should be cut off, but it may actually become visible (partially).

  • Project built without Action Safe Zone in Mind - help??

    hello -
I am working with DVD Studio Pro for the first time and am having to take a project that was built in Final Cut for the web and burning it to DVD-Video in a 4:3 format.
The problem that I am having is that the project was built without Action Safe Zone in Mind and is getting cut off on the TV screen. Is there an easy way to just shrink the whole project in DVD Studio or FCP without having to touch the timeline?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

You could create a new sequence in FCP, then put the original sequence into that new sequence. Control-click the video track in the new sequence, open the motion tab, and re-scale the entire sequence.

  • Safe Zone

Hello - I put together a movie for a family that included words. I made sure all the words are inside the Safe Zone, however she said when she watches it on her 42" flat screen the words are cut off. I have never heard of this before. Any ideas? Thank you!

    Hi -
Two things, the first you probably already know:
When you turn on the title safe markers, you get two green boxes. The smaller box is the title safe limit (no graphics are to extend outside of that box) and the larger box is the action safe limit (no critical action is to occur outside of that box - like the barrell of gun must extend from the edge of frame and into the action safe box to be seen on most conventional CRT monitors).
So assuming that your graphics do indeed fit within the inner Title Safe Marker then point two:
*Welcome to the world of chasing the client's monitor.* I have a 42" Panasonic monitor hooked up to Blu - Ray and DVD players, and the choices of aspect ratio presentation, and scan/overscan size are nothing short of amazing. I can set +the player+ to output certain aspects ratios and scan/overscan sizes, I can set +the Monitor+ to play certain aspect ratios and scan/overscan sizes.
I can imagine many, many, many people have the options miss-configured between the player and the monitor.
There are only two viable solutions -
    1) Knowing that your graphics fall within SMPTE TV safe guidelines, stress that certainty to the client, stressing that they need to adjust their monitor/player accordingly.
    2) Go to the client's location of the playback and adjust the equipment correctly yourself.
Solution #1 will make the client suspicious of you at best, and think you are lying and incompetent at worst, since everything (to them) looked great before seeing your material. It really only works if you can get them to come to you and see it playing back correctly on your system, and . . .
Solution #2 will make your material look good, but the client will be unhappy because everything else they watch on the monitor will now not look like they were used to seeing before it was adjusted correctly.
    Good luck!

  • Video no longer matches Safe Zones

Hello I am running Encore 2.
My clips are uncompressed QT @720x486.
When I put them in Encore, the video is larger, almost as if Action Safe became the border of the footage. However, if I recompressed the footage to 720x480, the footage betters matches the original size. However, the files also seem to be dropping the fields since the footage looks so soft and without detail.
I have tried different transcoding settings including auto, my own as well as the presets. The disc burn and play but at the wrong size and bad quality.
One more oddity, all the files were exported from an Avid Symphoney with lower fieled. However, only one file, the main large one had to be switched to upper. I guess enocre just decided to switch?
    Thanks, Any help is appreciated.
    Malameel

Thanks for the reply! You did answer some questions. I feel so stupid about the cropping I am doing, of course, I just didn't think it through.
However, why does Enocre then take 720x486 as a resolution and what is it technically doing to that footge? It says it can bring it in which tells me that it would automatically correct the 486 issue correctly. Either way I will resample the footage at 480.
This rise other problems though. Why did only one need to be reversed? The other footage played, but was soft. Maybe it was dropping the other fieled? The settings are unclear of what it thinks came in verses what is going out.
As far as the safe zones, I am comparing the different settings within Encore. If the footage is 480, then it closer to bing correct, but if it is 486, it zooms in about 10%.
I will try and reburn within the hour or so and post the changes. Thanks for all the help.

  • 4:3 title safe zone overlay for 16:9 anamorphic DV PAL timeline?

    Hey guys,
I'm working on a widescreen TVC, and I need to be sure that the titles are safe for 4:3. Is there a way to bring up 4:3 safe zones on a 16:9 DV PAL Anamorphic timeline? Or will I need to design an overlay in Photoshop?
    Pete

Do you have FCP 7? Those are built in. Although they are notches, not full lines. If not...well, even if so, you can use these. They are GREAT! I use them. Andy's Guides:

  • Output 4:3 center cut from Anamorphic 16:9 source

    Hi all,
I have an Anamorphic 16:9 Sequence (IMX 50) that I want to ouput to a 4:3 aspect ratio using a center cut. i.e. cutting the left and right sides of the picture off. I do not want to letter box the output.
From what I have read it is relatively easily to produce a letter boxed 4:3 output but I haven't managed to find out how to produce a center cut output.
    Any ideas would be great
    Thanks
    Matt

Well as you say, it works ... and it seems pretty darn simple to me
I can't speak for Quicktime Conversion as I never use it. If I was looking for an alternative method (and assuming I didn't have a direct hardware center cut option from an I/O card such as the AJA mentioned above) I would use Compressor. Its easy to use, has masses of presets, and you can tweak output aspect/crop directly in the preview window so you can see exactly what you are going to get.
Using Compressor you can save your own custom preset as a droplet, then whenever you have output a 16:9 master that you want to center cut then you only need to drop it onto the droplet ... and hey presto, it'll spit out the needed file.

  • Title/Action Safe Zones

    Hello,
I have started a home 1080p project. Almost all my source files are shot that I need 100% of view. I plan to have my finalized movie in different formats 1080p as well as DVD and to be viewed on iOS devices.
    My questions:
    1) is frames' content that is beyond Safe Zones will be visible on DVD/TV or/and exported movie file.
      2) if I resize all the frames to fit largest safe zone's frame, will I get black (unused space) visible in final movie?
    Thank you.

    Thank you Tom,
this project was shot using Canon's EOS 5D Mark II and all my background is photographic. These safe areas is something I need to consider in the future and learn somehow how much it is in viewfinder as there are no such marks in my camera.
Will see how it works when I have the project finalized.

  • How to do a "Center Cut" version?

I have a motion picture that was shot in 16:9 aspect ratio. Now I have to deliver a "center cut" version of the movie in 4:3 for television release.
What is the best way to resize?
The movie was shot in HDV, 720p, 720x480
    Many, many thanks in advance!

I have a center cut matte shape that was sent to me from a QC department a while back. I'd have to search for it but if you like I could pass it along. Just drop it over your video and check to be sure that nothing important leaves frame. If it does you just keyframe the picture back in frame.
