Center text in Pages to E-Pub Export.

I have been doing a bit of playing around with exporting files in Pages to e-Pub. Also through searching these forums I have found many that have had issues with getting text to remain centered in their books. What I have found is that it might be a problem with iBooks and not the export function of Pages. It seems that if I open the exported e-pubs in the free Nook app for my Mac, the centered content is retained. loading the same file in iBooks causes all centered text to be left justified. So it might be that Apple has some work to do with iBooks.

  • How to center text in Pages to show correctly on iBook Reader

    Hi,
First, I have to say that I posted the same question on ''Creating ePubs'' discussioun page but nobody could help.
I am trying something really easy but could not solve it. Hope someone can help.
Ok, I know that if I choose ''Chapte Name'' as a pharagraph style, iBook reader automatically puts it into a new page, so the new page starts with the chapter name on top. I dont have any problems with my chapters.
However, I want my book to start with a page that has a brief info about the author. I want this info in the middle of the page (also centered in the middle). Than I want to go to the second page with a ''dedication'' part where I write my thanks to people. I also want this in the middle and centered. And finally I want to add my book title and author name together on the 3rd page. After that the chapters will start.
So, as I told you, the chapters work just fine. But when I try to center the text in the first 3 pages, (I press return several times on my keybord to do it) the pages interwine with each other. For example, the last part of page 2 goes on top of page 3.
I think this happens because I press the return key to center the texts. So, is there a way to lock texts to the pages where they belong to prevent them to interwine with other pages even if I press return to center the text
    OR
Is there another way to center text to prevent them to interwine with other pages...
    Thank you

One of the consequences of working all night on this was that there is errata, or improved insight.
As I mentioned previously, each of the four document parts that I tested is in its own section. This means that each of the first three document icons, in thumbnail view, has its own distinct yellow race track around it. The chapter/body text is in a fourth multi-page section.
On the first page, with invisibles and layout mode shown, I have a ¶ (pilcrow) showing on line 1, column 1. If I place the cursor before this mark, the text inspector shows the following:
    Style is body
    Character spacing is 0%
    Line spacing is single (1)
Before paragraph is set to 172 pt.
After paragraph is set to 6 pt.
Now, if I place the cursor before the About the Author string:
    Ruler set to 1.6 inches
    Style is Heading 1
    Character spacing is 0%
    Line Spscing is single (1)
Before paragraph is set to 196 pt
After paragraph is set to 6 pt
Place cursor between end of Author and Pilcrow and press return.
With the cursor before the author description:
    Style is body
My font choice was Baskerville, Regular 12 pt.
Left ruler set to 1.6 inches. Right ruler to 6.2 inches.
    Character spacing is -4%
Line-height is set at multiple (1.2)
    Before paragraph is 0
    After paragraph is 12 pt.
Position cursor between last character and pilcrow - press return.
    Insert section break
This is all there is too my first page:
    For the Dedication page:
Line 1, Col 1 has the pilcrow and style is body
    Character spacing is 0%
    Line height is single (1)
Before and After paragraph are set to 0
With the cursor just before Dedication:
Left ruler set at 2.6 inches
    Style is Heading 1
    Character spacing is 0
    Line height is 1.5
Before paragraph set to 190 pt
After paragraph set to 0 (yeah, raised my eyebrow too)
Place cursor between trailing n and pilcrow, press return.
With cursor on first line of names, just prior to first character:
Style is body text with Baskerville Regular 12 pt override.
    Text justification is left.
Left ruler is set to 2.9 inches
Right ruler is set to 6.7 inches
    Character spacing is 0
    Line-height is 1.2
Before and after paragraph are 0
Insert cursor before last Pilcrow and press return
On the next line, there is a Pilcrow at col 1, place the cursor in front of it.
    Style is body style
    Character spacing is 0
    Line-height is multiple (1.2)
    Before paragraph is 0
    After paragraph is 216 pt.
Press return to set the jump.
    Insert section break
You can likely insert step 14 at step 7 and skip 9 - 13. It was late.
The Dedication page looks like this:
Hopefully, you missed something, or it wasn't sufficiently explained previously. I hope you can duplicate the above and discover unique, centered content in your ePub.

  • Italicized text in Pages 5.2.2 won't show up in exported PDF

I built a resume in pages within a table to control placement of elements on a single page. I usually export to PDF, because exporting to .docx throws off formatting. But when I export to PDF, italicized text won't appear. Why?

Oh, I tried everything (and your suggestion) and then I looked it up in youtube and did the simplest thing! I just restarted the devices! Who would've thought...

  • Vertically center text on a page-document wide

Anyone know how to center text vertically on FrameMaker pages? (There is a way to do this, right?)
    Thanks!

Nope, not document wide. You could do it manually on a page by page basis or if the content is suffciently small that you can make each page a fixed height row of a table you could use the Table middle setting for the paragraphs.
With a tool like Framescript, you could set up a procedure that would determine the bottom gap from the last line of text to the end of the text frame and then split difference to push down the top of line text, but this requires a bit of coding.

  • E-pub exported from Pages

These files are not being read by my Sony PRS-505 they exort as a single error page. E-pub books from other sources are no problem. Is there a DRM inbuilt that needs to be switched, or have I made a stupid mistake?

The reader shows an exclaimation mark inside a triangle with Page Error underneath. So if there's no DRM to prevent it reading it, it is almost certain that the reader is at fault.
On looking more closely, I think it must be a reader problem as the file is loaded and shows as a file size of 445Kb and as an epub document. Over to Sony!

  • How to reformat a text in Pages?

Does anybody know how to " clear format" a text in Pages? You can do in Word. Thanks a lot.

Happily, Pages isn’t a clone of Word.
It’s not supposed to replicate its features.
Here is a slightly modified version of a script posted about a month ago.
Open the Pages Word Processing document to treat then apply the script.
As it was written as a demo of what may be done, you will have to edit some instructions to get the exact wanted format (mainly those applying colors).
    --{code}
    --[SCRIPT clear_Pages_format]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : clear_Pages_format.scpt
déplacer le fichier ainsi créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    --=====
    L’aide du Finder explique:
    --=====
Save the script as a Script: clear_Pages_format.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.
Open a Pages Word Processing document.
Go to the Scripts Menu, choose Pages, then choose “clear_Pages_format”
The script will apply the font Courier and some other attributes to the embedded text.
    --=====
    The Finder’s Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the “Show Script Menu in menu bar” checkbox.
    Under 10.6.x,
go to the General panel of AppleScript Editor’s Preferences dialog box
and check the “Show Script menu in menu bar” option.

  • Pages 5.1 not exporting to pdf properly

When I export or print my pages document as a pdf, some text is missing in the resulting pdf.
Is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Rapolas

    Yes, it does.
I have a few sentences within a single cell, and half of the second sentence is missing.
In Pages 5.1, the document looks like this:
Whereas the exported or printed pdf is:
The only acceptable workaround I could find was to export to pages 09 format, open it with pages 4.3 and export as pdf. That one looks just the way it is supposed to. But it is not a solution.
The worst thing is that you cannot spot the defect at a glance. Neither can I trust the export as pdf function.

How do I place text from Pages in InDesign?

You will need to export the text from Indesign as either .rtf or .doc files and import those.
You can also cut and paste but I assume you have already tried these options and are not happy with the result, but haven't said why.

  • Pages 09 will not Export to ePub

I have Pages 09 version 4.1. I've written all my content and added all the pictures for each page of content for my eBook on Pages 09.
My understanding is that ePub is one of the main formats people want when they buy/read an eBook. For this reason I'd very much like to export my work on Pages to the ePub format.
When I open pages, go to file, export and click on ePub it says "Page layout documents cannot be exported to the ePub format." There are 4 other formats available: PDF, Word, RTF and Plain Text which appear to work.
Under Compatibility and sharing Apple writes " You can also save your Pages documents as RTF files or as plain text. Or export them as ePub or PDF files" apple.com/iwork/pages/
I've signed up at one of the top self publishing book and eBook services online but even their export tool isn't working with formatting my Pages 09 work to ePub.
Could anyone here share with me exactly what I need to do?
I really need to get this project finished as soon as possible.
    Sincerely,
    Dave

Hi fruhulda, Thank you for attempting to explain this to me.
When I go to the the first link you gave # 7 says "To export your Pages document as an ePub document, choose File, Export and make sure ePub is selected as the export format."
From what I read on the page, I've done what needs to be done to export to ePub.
I'v simply created my work in Pages 09, I went to pages, chose a template, wrote content, added pics numbered pages ETC, saved it to documents then I open the pages document, What I made comes up and I go to file, then export and then click epub but when I click on epub, the only option is to choose another format or cancel, the next button goes away. (the next button doesn't actually go away but it becomes non-clickable)
When you say " The message you have got tells you that you have used the Page Layout template instead of the Word Processing one you need for creating an ePub document."
I'm not sure if you're saying I've done something wrong. If so, where did I go wrong? Was I not supposed to use a template?
    Thanks again,
    Dave

  • Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper)

Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper). For example, if I am downloading a paper by smith called "Surgery" that was published in 2002, it will automatically set the file name in the download to smith- surgery 2002. I have heard pages is smart enough to do this.
    thank you

Pages can export only its own documents. They may be exported as PDF, MS Word, RTF or Text files.
Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
How will the script recognize the year of publication?
For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.
    Best of luck.
    Regards,
    Barry

  • Center text vertically in 6i

I was wondering if there was a way to center text vertically in a text field in forms 6i.
I have a banner at the top of my form as a text item, and I need the value(s) to be centered horizontally(which I have already done) and vertically which I am wondering how to do. Could someone please tell me how?
    TIA

It does not. It's specific to table cells, or things with the
    table-cell
    display style.

  • In CS6 how do I center text please!

How do I print something in CS6 and for it to be centered on the page. I got the Ctrl+T  and I see the middle of the page, then pulled over the handle to center on the page but when I go to type on the center line...the type moves and all the text goes to the right. The old CS4 would just let me type and as long as I started in the center of the page the type would move and center itself.

    Hi,
Did you try enabling Center text in the type alignment options before entering the text?
