Centering a web page with nested layers (divs)

Hi, I know this must be asked numerous times but some help woud be appreciated. I am currently upgrading my wed site produced in Dreamweaver 6 and 8.
I used layers and nested layers with the page aligned to the left of the browser. I am now redesigning the whole site and would like the page centred. As a designed and signmaker I am trying a avoid an out of the box design.
How can I centre my pages, preferably adapting existing pages to start with.
www.curtissigns.com is the site and appologies for some of the very ancient and dated pages!!!
If any can provide some advice or point me to some discussions.
All my efforts with CSS seem to be failing at the moment.

All individual elements on your page at the moment are 'absolutely' positioned - very bad pracitce. But, I understand you've mentioned you made this site a while ago.
A quick fix for now would be to add this right after opening <body> tag:
<div id="container">
and this right before closing </body> tag:
</div>
Then, add this to the CSS part of your page (just after opening <style type...> right now, Line 85 on your HTML page. This will come before #apDiv1 rule:
#container{
left: 50%;
margin-left: 520px;
position: absolute;
left: 50% will offset the Div container to 50% of page width. margin-left: 520px will slice that in almost half (at the moment, your page is about 1004px wide), thereby displaying the entire page in the center. I've used position: absolute now since otherwise, you cannot center it (as you already have all nested elements as absolute).
But, I'd definitely recommend taking some time to re-create your webpage - never use 'position: absolute;' unless it is definitely required. You can do a great job with using 'float' and 'position: relative' tags.

How can I print web pages with HP psc 2175 printer?

Hi,
I'm having difficulty printing web pages with my HP psc 2175 printer. The printer spits out many pages before the actual page I want printed and then at times it doesn't print all of the section desired.
In fact, when I copied one page the other day, saved it as a pdf file to my computer, opened the file and the document still would not print.
Anyone have any idea what could be happening?

I have a strange issue - I am also using HP Envy 100 410A and its prints fine from iPad2. But when I try to print from my Gen 1 iPad, it goes thru the motions (shows the printer, allows to select which pages to print, double sided print etc.) but the printing actually doesn't hapen.
Any suggestions?

Troubleshooting suggestions:
Ensure the page you are linking to exists in the correct folder.
Check your file name for case sensitivity . Index.htm is not the same as index.htm!
Temporarily disable any rewrite rules by renaming your .htaccess file if it exists
is the problem with
iweb or with hosting?
One Apple tech started to fix Iweb and had to end session and the next said problem with hosting at Network Solutions as it published
to local folder. NWS has checked sttting a few times-
Any help would be extremely appreciated as trying to fix this for about five weeks

How to print chinese web page with netscape browserver in Solaris 9 OS ?

Dear All,
I would like to print chinese web page within netscape browser in Solaris 9 Traditional Chinese OS, the print out result is garbage code on the paper not correctly chinese fonts.
I can print out correctly the chinese document create by StarSuite 7.0 on Solaris 9 OS environment and also the chinese web page is correctly display within Netscape browser but for printing is abnomal result.
Can someone point me to how to do print chinese web page with browser in Solaris 9 environment ?

i have encountered this problem before and i remember downloading some fonts package and installing it. u could google search your question and it should provide the solution.thats how i stumbled upon the package.

Why in the world would Apple make the track pad LESS useful in OS Lion? I hate that I can't g back to the top of a web page with a singe swipe. And of course all the other gestures are totally reversed. IMHO, this was not an imporvement.

Go to System Preferences > Trackpad > Scroll & Zoom, and uncheck Scroll direction: Natural.

Adding keywords to a web page with Dreamweaver 8

Hi,
Does anyone of you know how to add keywords to a web page
with Dreamweaver 8? I want the link to the web page shows up when
people google the keywords. I pulled out the instructions from
ehow.com and followed the instructions by using the HTML Keywords
function in the Insert menu. I tested it on Google website by
entering the keywords but it did not work.
Any clues would be helpful.

Let's put it this way - those sites I have that are highly
ranked do not
have any meta keywords on them. So - you do the math....

PDF printing of web-pages WITH background?

How do I make it possible to have the background image/pattern/colour etc. of a web-page included when I "print" to PDF?
Whenever I print a web page with something in the background other than white it's missing in the PDF file. This happens in my daily-use browser (Seamonkey), but also in Safari. However, in iCab (http://www.icab.de/) the background is included in the PDF file, so at least it's possible in MacOS. I just can't find any settings for it.

Another neat trick I found is that you can save the different settings. Just go to the "presets" part of the print menu, then save the current setting. For example by naming it "PDF printing with background".
Then turn off the background colour/image/pattern and save it as a new preset (e.g. "Print (to paper)").
That way you don't need to waste lots of ink, but at the same time you'll get the complete web-page with background and all when you save it as a PDF file. Just remember to select the right preset before you "print".

I started setting up a web page with iWeb. Auto play box is checked, but music will not play when page is opened.

Several proplems so far:
1) Auto Play box checked for music, but music does not start when page is opened.
2) Can't get Quicktime "start/stop" slide to start and finish a section within a long piece of music (classical for example). How does one work the slide bar to do this?

Yes the audio file plays on the iWeb page when I click the play button. I even made sure it played both without the “little boxes” that surround the icon (don’t know the technical name for those), and when I click the music icon without the little boxes.
I did note that the iTunes window that appears when I open the Inspector is not highlighted until I click the music icon and those little boxes appear. Then the Start/Stop, Auto Play, Loop, and Show Movie Controller are highlighted — and work properly.
One other thing. I see that the iWeb icon I am working from says “Domain copy.sites2.” Does that have a bearing on anything?

Using a Word web page with iWeb

I want to create a web page with Microsoft Works, and then import it to my iWeb application. How can I do this?

Open your word document
Click file > save as web page > save to location of your cboice…in my case, on the desktop for easy access
Right click on the file, and click open with, choose textedit….it hopens the html code, just to make sure it’s right
Upload that to your idisk in the “sites” folder
Log into .mac account via the web
Click on “homepage” subtab at the top of the screen
Click “add new page”
Click “advanced” tab on the left hand side
Click “external HTML” (the only option for pages in “advanced” tab)
Click the file you just uploaded to idisk sites folder, then click choose
It will show you a preview of the page, and then click publich..
Get the URL, and link to it from your iWeb site…they’ll n ever know how you did it

How do I fetch web page with as short PL/SQL code as possible. I don't want to send headers, read requests, just download it at once. Are there alternatives to UTL_HTTP.REQUEST which hangs on my system? Can I use one of the XDB packages to do that?

Firefox 20.0.1 with Shockwave 11.7.700.169 crashes when you access web pages with video content

I have a problem with Firefox 20.0.1 under Windows 7 with Shockwave flash 11.7.700.169. When I access a web site / web page with some content that requires Shockwave (usually videos) I can view the video, however, when I exit Firefox, it will crash with "Firefox encountered a problem - check for a solution ...". I also have a web site "MyHeritage" that when I access a family tree I repeatedly get a message "Video driver stopped working - NVIDIA driver ... has successfully recovered". If I disable Shockwave, Firefox will not crash in both cases, unfortunately, I cannot watch any video content.
I did go to the Adobe web site and updated what I thought was my version of Shockwave, unfortunately this installed Director for netscape V12.2, I have disabled this plug-in.
BTW - running Firefox in safe mode (add-ons disabled) stopped my NVIDIA driver from crashing and also stopped Firefox from crashing when exiting.
