Centering/Aligning While Keeping One Object in Place

We use Corel Draw at work, and although I prefer Illustrator, Corel does have some nice features that I don't think Illustrator has. If I want to center a small circle inside a larger circle, they will both move together, but if I want one to stay in place, is there a way to do that?
In Corel you select the object you want to move first and then the other, then just press "C" to center horizontal and "E" to center vertical. Does Illustrator have anything like that? Thanks.

One all your objects are selected, click again on the object you don't want moved. Objects will align to that objects position.

How to scale objects in a layer while keeping each object in the same position

I have a map with symbols on it, placed precisely where they need to be. Is there a way to scale all of the objects in a layer or group so that they are larger, but without treating them as a layer that is stretched out to scale proportionately? Basically, how could I make each symbol larger as though each is being scaled from their centers?
I've tried to select a layer so that each object is selected, then transforming them (specifiying a scale percentage). As a result, the objects are enlarged, but this produces the same results as a normal click and drag from the corner registration point. Any ideas?

Yes, o.k., sort of. But you are not allowed to select individual objects that are parts of a group or groups. It's also quite all right to select, say, Same Fill Colour and Transform Each will work as long as the selection does not contain parts of groups.
To my way of thinking it would be better if it worked the other way, with anything selected with the Direct Selection tool, because sometimes you want to transform things even though they are parts of groups. But that's just the way the Illy cookie crumbles.

Align centers with one object stationary

My simple questions is how do you use Align Vertical/Horizontal Centers when you want align one object (say a label) to the center of another object without actually moving the first object?
Currently I just move the second object by hand and visually center it since the Align Centers button moves both objects.

That topic comes up occasionally. There is no "anchor point" object available in LV. It is something that I have wanted sometimes.
If this is important to you, post an idea on the LabVIEW Ideas Exchange Forum. If you can make a good case and many people agree with you, it might get implemented in a future version of LV.

My problem is recreating the align right effect while keeping
the menu fixed using flash AS2 mostly for re sizing as well as
different screen sizes.
While i can do one or the other but both is just not

I have tried all sorts of weird and wonderful things but as

"horizontal/vertical align center" relative to one object, not the average

Hello!
I see in Illustrator, if i select 2 objects and i choose to align them relative to their centers, both objects will move to the middle point of the distance between their original positions.
Is there a way to make just one of them move?
Am i able to center one object to another object that is already in its final position?

i tried it, but it doesn't work. here's what i did:
-selected one object
-shift-selected the other one
-clicked horizontal align center
both objects moved

Welcome to the Apple community.
So long as you are logged into the iTunes Store, using the correct ID and password (settings >store), then you will always have access to your apps, books, music, TV shows etc etc bought via the iTunes Store on that account.

Unable to view settings tab in one GPO. "An error occurred while generating report: Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I am the owner of this GPO and I can view the settings tab in any other GPO. But, I get the following message when I try to view the settings tab in one particular GPO:

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Other posts I look at reference the same error, but with different circumstances, and thus, they specify that the hotfix is for to fix the error under
those circumstances.
I'm accessing GPMC on a Win 7 SP1 machine. DC is Server 2012 Standard.

You can filter ADM templates to show configured ones only, and you can
use the "show all settings" node. This will speed the work up - a little
bit at least :)

Keeping "child" objects aligned relative to "parent" objects - Possible?

I have an object (e.g. a circle) and I have some text that I would like to remain center-aligned horizontally and vertically to the center of the circle, even if I cange the font or size of the text, or add a newline (make it two or three lines of text rather than one).
Right now I have to realign the text to the object each time I change the text. I'd like to be able to "lock" the alignment of the text (or any other object) to some other object. Can I get this result (or close to it) somehow? I have to make frequent changes like this, and the extra realignement step after each change is a productivity killer for me.

I think I will likley have to go the action or scripting route. Setting an object's origin relative to that of another object seems like what I want to do, but the example I gave was really an oversimplification of my situation, and the text and circle of my example are really more complicated objects and groups of objects (including text) in the actual case, so I don't think the convert to ellipse solution will be quite robust enough. I'm going to fiddle with that method a bit to see if it might be adapted to the general case; it involves a few features I didn't know about so thanks for the education regardless. Otherwise, if there is no general way of linking one object's coordinate system to another object's center, creating an action or script will at least eliminate a few mouse clicks.

Can I anchor the new mini-player to one screen while keeping iTunes in another on iTunes 11?

I like having my main iTunes window on another screen while I'm browsing so that it doesn't distract me when I'm working. But I like the new mini-player & I ilke the fact that it notifies which song is playing each time it skips to the next one. So what I'd like is to keep the mini-player anchored to one screen (on Mountan Lion) while keeping the main iTunes window or the album artwork window in another one where I only need to go when I want to interact with iTunes in more detail.
This way I can keep the mini-player tucked away in one corner while I browse & I have quick access to the controls & the song info if I need it without having the full screen there. I know that I don't need to have the main iTunes window open all the time & I can simply Option-Command-M to toggle between the 2. But I'd like to have (if possible) the main window open as well on another screen. I have dragged only the mini-player to another screen but iTunes is anchored to the other one (via the dock options) so when I restart iTunes, both players (main & mini) open in the 2nd (non-browser) screen by default.

Thanks for the replies. The only problem with this solution is that any time I restart iTunes, it'll revert back to normal settings and both will pop up on the same desktop. As opposed to when you anchor it to a particluar desktop so that it open there not matter where you are when you launch the software.
I realise as I nitpick over this that may not be a very important issue at all But I just hoped there might be a solution to it. Thanks anyway.

Move itunes library from one computer to another while keeping data (e.g date added, play counts etc.)

I'm really sorry if this question has been asked before but I just upgraded my computer and I want to move all of my itunes library from my old one while keeping all of my info.
I tried copying the xml files but my new computer has a different location for the songs so they wont show up in the library.

I have the same printer with the same problem since I hooked it up to my HP G62 Laptop and installed the HP Scan Center (which replaced the old program console (name escapes me at the moment)).
Every time I turn on the Laptop or switch users that irritating message to align the print cartridges comes up.
I've tried immediately scanning the alignment page once it was printed and the program STILL wants me to align the cartridges.
What really gets me is that on the very same page that tells me to align the cartridges it says that the printer automatically aligns the cartridges when it's turned on - so why should it need to do so again when switching users?
I never had this problem with the old console/software that the Scan Center replaced.

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Export from iPhoto while keeping original photo information?? NEED HELP!!!

I'm trying to set up a pc for my grandmother so I can take over her old computer (macbook air). However she has 11000 photos on iPhoto and I need to move then all onto a storage device (about 30GB) but when I export them the computer doesn't copy all the information such as the date the photo was taken etc. Talking to a guy in the apple store he said i couldn't do it, but he was being pretty unhelpful so I was wondering if anyone here could give me an answer. How do you export from iPhoto while keeping all the information?

As to dates specifically:
There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported, e-mailed, uploaded etc.
Photographs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export.
However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.

How do I add to my library, while keeping songs on external hd

I have a huge music collection on an external hd. When I "add to my library", the songs are being saved on my macs hd- I dont want that to happen.
I would like to be able to access my entire music collection thru itunes without using up all my macs memory.
My old pc used to add songs to my library, while keeping the songs on my external hd.

Another option is to have your iTunes library stored on your external hd.
Hold down the option key when you load up iTunes and you'll be presented with a dialog that asks if you want to open an existing library or create a new one. Create a new one and save it to your external hd.
Import your songs from wherever they are (I recommend enabling the copy to iTunes library setting in your options and then once you're satisfied, delete the originals which will now be duplicated).
From now on, everytime you load up iTunes it will automatically launch the library on your external hd and everytime you add a song it will automatically copy to the right place on your external hd.
Front Row will also act the same... it will automatically pick up your external iTunes library with no extra configuration. Easy.
