Centering Spreads and pages in window. CS3
After having centered a spread (and selected fit window) I use the Pages Palette to go from one page to another (or from one spread to another). More often than not the pages display off centre and re-centering gets very tedious.
Is there a simple way of ensuring that one can click pages and/or spreads and get them to centre on the window automatically?
True, the OP was regarding the pages palette. My post did not address using the pages palette. It addressed an alternative method of navigating the document that I use that I find useful with all the keys required grouped for convenient access.
I acknowledge that I can change the page up/page down KB shorts as you indicated. I find the keys useless (personal opinion) as I have edited my cursor keys as described above. The default setting on the key is not satisfactory to me, as is the physical position on the keyboard (not the fault of the application).
Note that the Jump to Page (CMD+J) feature is another Keyboard navigation feature that can reduce the need to use the pages palette for document navigation purposes.
I propose that by using the Fit Page / Fit Spread settings and THEN using the pages palette/panel, that the view should remain centered on the page (by double clicking the page icon) or the spread (by double clicking the spread numbers).
I do agree that it would be nice if the view would retain the same relative position when zoomed in on a location... say a corner, or a position 300 x 75 points from the origin. Instead, the view jumps to the center of the spread, even with KB nav. I do not have an answer to that behavior except to work around it. My personal workaround is to use the keyboard navigation to quickly center full the page/spread and then move on.

Sorry but I cannot find where to change page numbering from the start of the document to say the 3rd page would now be page number 1. I found the preferences for section numbering under preferences but can't remember how to start page numbering at a different page. Thank you for help.
Hi. Nothing is selected. I just went into my document and clicked on the continue text at bottom and then clicked on next page so a new text box would be created with the continued text. I did this for 26 pages. Every one came up as centered text and ignore text wrap when I went back to check them.
Also, might you know how to get the 3rd page of the document to start automatically as page 1 (page 2 and 3 are my spread but when I go to numbering & section options and click on start page numbering at 3... so that hopefully it will start numbering there... it messes up my document and makes page 2 a separate page instead of keeping page 2 and 3 as my 1st spread... and then it makes page 3 and 4 as my new 1st spread. Thanks again. -

Following a crash I had to wipe my "C" drive and re-install Windows 7. I want to reinstall Photoshop Elements 9 and Premier Elements 9. Both programs are listed on my products page on the Adobe Website, but not on the "orders" page (from which I would normally download programs I've bought from Adobe). How do I get them downloaded?

* You changed the page that comes up after a crash - the one which shows the windows and pages that were up before the
crash.
This used to be a real HTML page and it isn't any more. THis choice was pure isiocy consider how peopel used that page every day (try taking to your users for a change).
The pages listed on that 'post crash page' used to be actual LINKS (you could right click them &
manually open them in another tab - and most peope DID that every day). You could also (and I did this a lot) drag a second
copy of the page, into a new tab (to keep track of all the pages I had not wanted to open)
Now the pages are no longer links. You cannot right-click them.
The thing in the probser is no longer a page that I can drag into a new tab.
Roll the version back and throw this one in the bin...and have a good long talk with your developers about the definition of
'STUPIDITIY'
Then I try to type anything in the addres bar it is suppose to repoond with the history of old things I have types in the past, or
search for what I type (and in some cases I think it tyes to convert it intoa URL). However it no longer does any of these
things. When I type in the ADDRESS BAR ONLY, I do not get all of my letters to appear. I have to type into a notepad or
into the search and to copy and paste to go to a URL. Nothing that is typed into the address bad responds normally at all
anymore, and I am fairly certain there are no new addons on this machine at all. It does not matter which things I disable. It
still does this. W of course points the finger back at a change to FIREFOX. I wich I could just sitct with one stable release
forever but the MOZILLA folk thing it is best to force peopel awy from a working broswer release to a horrible one (due to it
being out of date).
FIREFOX 26.0 has 'issues' (ie new *features*/bugs)
1) History is no longer accurate. My Proof? This machine is the primary one for the entire family (the only PC working). It is
logged in with same user every time and never has its history cleared. It now January 7 so I ought to have a list of all of last
months browing available to me.
However, according to FIREFOX history, in all of December 2013, the entire family only went to 51 primary URL's. None of
the official TV sites I use to get episodes are listed. None of the official movie sites I use are listed. The primary URL for
ebay is not listed. Only 1 out of our 4 weather sites that I use (at least once a week) are listed. Only 1 of our 3 FINANCE
sites is listed. There ought to be several; hundred root URLs listed.
Please fix history as this change seriously "blows greasy chunks"
PROBLEM (a stupid change in the new FIREFOX version)
FOr a long time, after a crash you got a useful page (a real HTML page) which gave you a list of all of your last sessions
'winwos and tabs' that were open when the browser crashed. there were certain ways of using this page that are no longer
able to be done.
The old method was wonderful as it had this behavior :
*** The old method for displaying your 'Recovered Tabs' allowed you to :
a) right click an individual item and open it in a tab without getting rid of that lovely window of your previous session of
'recovered windows and tabs '.
2) drag the URL for the entire window of 'recovered windows and tabs ' to a new tab (to make a second copy) so that you
could select just a few of them to open as a group, and stil have the old list handy.
You can no longer do either of these things. The 'recovered windows and tabs ' page no longer has links in it and can no longer be dragged, so you cant select a few of them to use, and keep the rest around for later. NOW - once you choose which pages to open the window is gone forever (can can't get a second copy).
People used to make a copy of the page for later use (with a drag)
we also used to open pages with a right click (which no longer functions
This new method seriously blows big greasy chunks. A parge loss in function has occurred.
Put things back as they were. 26 is full of terrible changes that NOBODY likes. It also has a lot of bugs (history is not reliable at all)(1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
(2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
* The "Firefox will" drop-down says Remember History: Firefox shouldn't be clearing history, but an add-on or external software could do it
* The "Firefox will" drop-down says Use custom settings for history: inspect the "Clear history when Firefox closes" setting to make Firefox isn't set to clear history. Also check your add-ons and consider external software.
Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored. -
In want to copy a portion of a URL from the "View" --> "Page Source" window and paste it in my favorite text editor. This used to be a simple action with my mouse (mark portion with left mouse button, dump copy into editor window with middle mouse button). In Firefox 3.6.9, it is not plain text in the "Page Source" window but active hyperlinks (cursor shape changes) and takes me to the website of that URL, which I don't want. How can I get the original behavior (plain text page source) back?
The code taht you have shown is not the template, it is a document that has been created from a template and renamed with a dwt extension.
If you load the document into DW then go to menu item Modify->Templates->Detach from Template and save the file, you will have your original template called index.dwt and located in the Templates subdirectory. -
We build plug-ins for all versions of InDesign from CS3 and later, for Windows and Mac.
To deploy our plug-in(s) on Windows, we use InstallShield, which has a somewhat complicated mechanism to locate InDesign.exe and determine its version so we know which plug-in(s) to install, but basically, the location is determined (via the RegLocator table in InstallShield) based on this registry setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\InDesign.exe
This has been working fine for all versions of InDesign since CS2. However, that location is apparently no longer set by the InDesign CS5.5 installer. So, we need to find some other way of programatically locating InDesign CS5.5 with our installer.
I've searched the registry of a machine with InDesign CS5.5 installed, and there are other registry entries related to InDesign, but those entries are not set by earlier versions of the InDesign installer. Ideally, there would be a registry setting, or some other reliable marker we can use to locate the InDesign installation, which is consistent across all versions of InDesign (at least back to CS3).
Using the registry setting is something we came up with on our own via trial-and-error, since, as far as I know, there is no documented way to locate the InDesign installation folder. (Our Mac installer uses a simpler mechanism to locate InDesign by the application name and version number.)
I find the apparent lack of documentation on this a bit ironic, since just about every other aspect of the SDK and the methods for creating InDesign plug-ins is extremely well documented, expect for the last final bit one needs to know to get to the promised land of actually deploying a carefully crafted plug-in to customers' machines. (This seems to be true of the Acrobat SDK as well.) However, I could have just missed the relevant documentation, in which case, please point me to it.
So, is there a recommended way to programatically locate the InDesign installation location on Windows? How are other people doing this in their installers?Hi Dan,
this is the InDesign plugins SDK forum, you need the installer forum....
Just kidding. I use a really hacky piece of VB to install my plugins while I'm developing...
here's the bit which works out the folder depending on which version I'm compiling for.
That gives you the gist anyway, and I imagine that most installers are going to do more or less the same thing, except they'll have short cuts ways of getting it.
There's probably a better way, but this works for me...

Is there a way to flip the pages in a .pdf so that all of the text is readable (in other words all documents are right side up)? I have Adobe Acrobat X and am using Windows 8.1.
I have a pdf with over 2,000 pages, many of which are sideways. I do not want to manually flip each one (few are next to each other). Is there a way to automate the function so that all sideways or upside down text pages are righted?

Keyword and description not included in the Page Properties window

I am making a book in iPhoto using a double page spread and blank layout. I can't find a way to minimize the picture. it is too big in all the themes. I seems like there must be a way to shrink it not just zoom to make it fit?
Command (right) - click on the photo and select Fit to Frame in the contextual menu:
Not all frames in a theme offer that feature but most do. The spread layout doesn't.

Page breaks and 'Fit Page in Window' option
This may seem a stupid question but indulge me: when I add a page break InDesign is only showing me the very top of the text frame on the page the cursor has moved to. How do I get InDesign to honour the 'Fit Page to Window' option when I add page breaks? Do I really have to keep hitting command-0?
It does like to go exactly to the first line of the next page. It's not very intuitive.
However, you can hold down Alt and scroll the page up.
Or while holding alt - click and hold anywhere on the page. It will zoom out. Move the red box where you want to Zoom to, then release the mouse.
Or you could press Return a few times then delete the returns. -
Windows XP 64 and Type 1 Fonts, CS3?
We have recently upgraded to CS5 and have installed Windows XP 64 on our graphics departments computers. They had previously had the 32 bit version of Windows installed and had no problems with Type 1 fonts. We have CS3 and CS5 installed until everyone has been upgraded to CS5. They are unable to see the Type 1 fonts when using CS3 but can see them in CS5 and other programs.
Does anyone know if I there is a fix to allow the fonts to be used in CS3?
Thanks,
Eric(1) Adobe does not officially support Windows XP 64-bit with any of its applications. XP 64-bit was more of an experiment for Microsoft than a real operating environment. Vista 64-bit was the first reliable 64-bit desktop version of Windows supported by Adobe. At this point, we most strongly recommend that you immediately move to Windows 7 64-bit which is fully supported by Adobe.
(2) There is no fix for the problem you encountered. The workaround is to put the Type 1 fonts in the Creative Suite's private font directory.

i am trying to print a jpg, centered on the page, to epson printer and the printed image is off center, does anyone have a sense about setting to check?
right click a blank area of the toolbar, click Customize. You'll see the printer icon there. Drag and drop it to where you want.
You can also find this option under View -> Toolbars -> Customize. -
When I add a new bookmark, and the (star) Page Bookmarked window appears - is there any way to expand the size of that window so that I can see my entire list of folders when adding a new bookmark to an existing folder? The endless scrolling technique is far too tedious when trying to add a new bookmark, because the window is simply too tiny. Is there maybe a plug-in that will let me grab the corner of that window and re-size it? Thanks!
I suggest you install the "Add Bookmark to Here2" extension, then you can expand the the list but you will not see the bookmark itself in the list if that is what you wanted. At the top you have three major folders you can select one of them and scroll up and down. Below that you have your most recently used folders and you can select one of them instead and scroll up and down. You can see the folder the bookmark is in -- they get added to the bottom
If you really want to see the bookmark within the folder the same extension allows you to bring the bookmark to the folder from say the bookmarks sidebar that is why it is named as such. I use it but mainly i use the dialog.
Please continue reading about bookmarks and some related extensions at

* http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox.htm#addbookmarkhere2
* http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/kws.htm
If you are not using tags at all, you can remove a whole lot of confusion by removing them from the dialog via the extension.
