CentOs 6.5 Shutdown
Hi all,
I've just finished the install of CentOs 6.5 on SCVMM 2012 R2. The CentOs VM is hosted on HyperV 2012 R2.
The mouse, timesync, keyboard work fine.
I've only the issue with the SCVMM Shutdown functionality. When I do a shutdown from SCVMM, the error is : you must install Virtual Guset Services ID : 1735
I've verified the HyperV driver with lsmod | grep hv : hid_hyperv, hv_netsvc, hv_utils, hyperv_fb, hv_storvsc
Thanks in advance
Check if hyper-v host detects VM Additions for this machine. If you have 3.1 - that's good. If you have 'Detected' - still ok. If you have 'not detected' the only way I was able to do this is with:
# rmmod hv_utils.ko --force
# modprobe hv_utils
After refresh VM is good to go with shutdown.
This procedure brought the VM Additions status to "Detected". Now I can shutdown the VM. I'll continue to monitor as I have heard reports that detection can fail after some time.
We are using SCVMM 2012 R2 CU 2

Trouble adding regular oracle oci8 support to RPM, CentOs 5
Hello,
It seems that i'm missing smth simple while trying to add oci8 support to RPM.
I took Christopher Jones's SRPM for 5.2.3 as a base, but since i don't have and don't need a support for instant client i modified latest available 5.1.6 SRPM from CentOS 5 repo.
The compile env is :

%description
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP attempts to make it
easy for developers to write dynamically generated webpages. PHP also
offers built-in database integration for several commercial and
non-commercial database management systems, so writing a
database-enabled webpage with PHP is fairly simple. The most common
use of PHP coding is probably as a replacement for CGI scripts.
The php package contains the module which adds support for the PHP
language to Apache HTTP Server.

Java 7 (oracle jdk 1.7) on CentOS 6.2 freezes hangs FUTEX_WAIT
Hello,
Recently have had problems with Java 1.7 this combination:
CentOS 6.2
linux kernel 2.6.32.57 (vanilla kernel)
GRSecurity grsecurity-2.9-2.6.32.57-201202232125.patch
When trying to run jdk1.7.0_04, java hangs with no error messages in /var/log/messages and cannot be killed leaving CPU at 100% forever, OS unable to shutdown. Only solution is to pull the power plug!

When I boot with the CentOS 6.2 kernel, java 1.7 runs fine.
This same instance runs jdk 1.6 and jrockit 1.6 just fine
================================================================
# ./java -version
java version "1.6.0_31"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_31-b05)
Oracle JRockit(R) (build R28.2.3-13-149708-1.6.0_31-20120327-1523-linux-x86_64, compiled mode)
(jdk-6u25-linux-x64.bin)
# ./java -version
java version "1.6.0_25"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_25-b06)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b11, mixed mode)
================================================================
JDK 1.6 is fine for now, but sooner or later, the server will need to run JDK 1.7. Wondering if anyone has come across this or if someone might have an idea what would get jdk 1.7 working. Or what other info I might supply to try to figure this out.
Thanks!
Not sure if it helps, but I straced the command...

Actually there are several nice articles on Oracle Technical Network
devoted to the same topic. Whats new may be said ?
The target of message is to highlight the optimal sequence of steps
required to bring Oracle10g (10.2.0.1) ASM-database up on CentOS4.1 , placing ASM instance and serviced databases in different Oracle Homes.
Oracleasm library install is done immediately after creating "oracle"
linux account and "dba" group to be ready for ASM Instance creating during
the first Installer run supposed to build it. ASM instance for disks and disks
group management is created the first by Installer along with the disks group
for database supposed to be built during the second run of Installer and to be
placed into recently created disks group.
I. Oracle 10gR2 ASM and ASMLib 2.0 I/O.
1.Install CentOS 4.1
2.Run as root:
# groupadd dba # group of users to be granted SYSDBA system privilege
# groupadd oinstall # group owner of Oracle files
# useradd -c "Oracle software owner" -g oinstall -G dba oracle
# passwd oracle
# mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u01
# mkdir -p /u02/oradata/wtfdata
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u02
OTN instruction:-
Before installing Automatic Storage Management, it is recommended that you install the optional add-on Automatic Storage Management support library, ASMLib. ASMLib is an application program interface (API) Oracle that is aimed at simplifying the interface between the operating system and the database, and to exploit the capabilities and strengths of storage arrays provided by different vendors.ASMLib provides an alternative interface for the Automatic Storage Management-enabled kernel to discover and access block devices. It provides storage and operating system vendors the opportunity to supply extended storage-related features. These features provide benefits such as improved performance and greater data integrity.
OTN instruction ends.
3.To install ASMLIB 2.0 run as root:-
# rpm -Uvh oracleasm-2.6.9-11.ELsmp-2.0.0-1.i686.rpm \
oracleasmlib-2.0.0-1.i386.rpm \
oracleasm-support-2.0.0-1.i386.rpm
Now you get /etc/init.d/oracleasm ready to go.
Configuring the Oracle ASM library driver:-
# /etc/init.d/oracleasm configure
Default user to own the driver interface [oracle]: oracle
Default group to own the driver interface [dba]: dba
Start Oracle ASM library driver on boot (y/n) [y]: y
Fix permissions of Oracle ASM disks on boot (y/n) [y]: y
Writing Oracle ASM library driver configuration: [ OK ]
Scanning system for ASM disks: [ OK ]
# /etc/init.d/oracleasm enable
Create ASM disks as desired utilizing command:
# /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk VLM0X /dev/sdx
Tune /etc/sysctl.conf,/etc/security/limits.conf,/etc/pam.d/login, /etc/profile.
and oracle's shell environment as advised in [1].
Login as oracle:-
$ cd /tmp/database
$./runInstaller
OTN instructions:-
Its recommended that you install Automatic Storage Management in its own Oracle home, regardless of whether you plan to only have one or multiple database instances.Installing Automatic Storage Management in its own Oracle home helps ensure higher availability and manageability.
With separate Oracle homes, you can upgrade Automatic Storage Management and databases independently, and you can remove database software without impacting the Automatic Storage Management instance. Ensure that the Automatic Storage Management version is the same or later than the Oracle Database version.If an Automatic Storage Management installation does not already exist and you select the Oracle Universal Installer option to install and configure Automatic Storage Management only, then Oracle Universal Installer installs Automatic Storage Management in its own Oracle home.
OTN instruction ends.
Select " Advanced installation" and
create ASM instance in $ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1

Exit installer.
$ ./runInstaller

II. Oracle 10gR2 ASM and Standard Linux I/O.
This method creates Oracle database files on raw character devices managed by ASM
using standard Linux I/O system calls.It requires to create RAW devices for all

# mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u01
# mkdir -p /u02/oradata/data
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u02
Just as an example create 4 partitions:
/dev/hda6,/dev/hdc6 5 GB each one
/dev/hda7,/dev/hdc7 3 GB each one
Create raw devices modifying file /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices as follows:
/dev/raw/raw1 /dev/hda6

Install described above was done with different Oracle Homes
for ASM instance and ASM-database.
To put ASM instance and ASM-database in same Oracle Home.
Start runInstaller just once to build all stuff at a time.
Login as oracle:-
$ cd /tmp/database
$./runInstaller
Select " Advanced option" and install "Software only"
in ORACLE_HOME - /u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1.
Modify oracle's .bash_profile:-
export ORACLE_HOME and new PATH.
Source new .bash_profile:-
$. ~oracle/.bash_profile
$dbca
During this run the request to start CRS daemons by root will come up.
# $ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig add
ASM instance , needed disk's groups and ASM-database itself will be created.
Then perform listener and local TNS names configuration.
$netca
II. Oracle 10gR2 ASM and Standard Linux I/O.
This method creates Oracle database files on raw character devices managed by ASM using standard Linux I/O system calls.It requires to create RAW devices for all disk partitions used by ASM.
1.Install CentOS 4.1
2.Run as root:
# groupadd dba # group of users to be granted SYSDBA system privilege
# groupadd oinstall # group owner of Oracle files
# useradd -c "Oracle software owner" -g oinstall -G dba oracle
# passwd oracle
# mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u01
# mkdir -p /u02/oradata/data
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u02
Just as an example create 4 partitions:
/dev/hda6,/dev/hdc6 5 GB each one
/dev/hda7,/dev/hdc7 3 GB each one
Create raw devices modifying file /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices as follows:
/dev/raw/raw1 /dev/hda6
/dev/raw/raw2 /dev/hdc6
/dev/raw/raw3 /dev/hda7
/dev/raw/raw4 /dev/hdc7
Put in /etc/rc.d/rc.local
chown oracle:dba /dev/raw/raw*
chmod 660 /dev/raw/raw*
I was experiencing problems with loosing "oracle:dba" permissions after Linux
reboot. Oracle's raw device came up with "root:disk" ownership after reboot.
Restart Linux
Run as root:-
# service rawdevices restart
Tune /etc/sysctl.conf,/etc/security/limits.conf,/etc/pam.d/login,
/etc/profile and oracle's shell environment as advised in [1].
Login as oracle:-
$ cd /tmp/database
$./runInstaller
Select " Advanced installation" and
create ASM instance in ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/asm
During this run create diskgroup RAWDATA1 with normal redundancy
mirroring /dev/raw/raw1 and /dev/raw/raw2.
You should be fine with discovering raw devices if permissions are in place (oracle:dba)
Exit installer.
Export ORACLE_HOME for ASM instance and corresponding PATH.
Then run "dbca" to create diskgroup RAWDATA2 with
normal redundancy mirroring /dev/raw/raw3 and /dev/raw/raw4
$ ./runInstaller
Select " Advanced installation" and create new ASM-database placed RAWDATA1 diskgroup
in $ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1.
Modify ~oracle/.bash_profile correspondently.Relogin as oracle.

Im finding below error with regards to Centos 6.4 VM (Vmhost windows 2012 R2)
Hyper-V failed to generate VSS snapshot set for virtual machine 'testcntos': The request is not supported. (0x80070032). VSS snapshot set generation can fail if backup operation is in progress.
Note:-
1. VSS snapshot freq. has been set to 6 hours.
2. Linux integration services 3.5 installed in VM.
3. Backupessentials 1.0 installed.
What needs to b done to resolve this error ?Hi Newvm,
Centos 6.4 has build-in IS .
"Drivers: IDE, SCSI, networking, and mouse
Services: Time synchronization, operating system shutdown, and heartbeat
Integration services are built-in and do not require a separate download and installation."
For details please refer to following link :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn531026.aspx
"VSS snapshot set generation can fail if backup operation is in progress"
Maybe there is conflict with backup operation .
Please try to stop any other backup application , install "windows server backup" to backup the linux VM .

Startup/Shutdown script for OBIEE 11g on Linux
Hi all,
as a follow-up to [url http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=4546010]an earlier thread by some fine gentleman, I have improved the original startup/shutdown script for Linux a bit, making sure that all processes are handled correctly. The script has been tested and works fine on CentOS 5.5 with Oracle BI 11.1.1.3.0 in a clustered configuration. Instructions:
Manual start/stop:
> service obiee start
> service obiee stop
> service obiee status
Automatic start/stop during boot sequence:
> chkconfig --add obiee
> chkconfig obiee on
Note that in order for the procedure to go through smoothly, you need to provide the admin credentials (username/password, defaulting to weblogic/weblogic) in three different places:
1. In configuration file <FMW_HOME>/user_projects/domains/<domain name>/servers/AdminServer/security/boot.properties for the administration server;
2. In script <FMW_HOME>/user_projects/domains/<domain name>/bin/startManagedWebLogic.sh (variables WLS_USER and WLS_PW) for the managed server;
3. In the startup script itself (variables BIEE_USER and BIEE_PASSWD) for shutting down the managed server.
Complete logs are available in /var/log/obiee-start (-stop).log files.
Please comment as necessary,
Chris

Can anyone provide me with help on this issue?You may want to review your install process. This is a guide to install on CentOS. Check if you have met the install requirements. You may want to read what others have gone through performing this kind of installation, check references at the end of the post.
The target of publication is to highlight the optimal sequence of steps required to bring Oracle10g (10.2.0.1) ASM-database up on CentOS4.1 (RHEL 4 AS U1) , placing ASM instance and serviced databases in different Oracle Homes.
Oracleasm library install is done immediately after creating "oracle" linux account and "dba" group to be ready for ASM Instance creating during the first Installer run supposed to build it. ASM instance for volumes and volume’s group management is created the first by Installer along with the volume’s group for
database supposed to be built during the second run of Installer and to be placed into recently created volume’s group.
1.Install CentOS 4.1
2.Run as root:
# groupadd dba # group of users to be granted SYSDBA system privilege
# groupadd oinstall # group owner of Oracle files
# useradd -c "Oracle software owner" -g oinstall -G dba oracle
# passwd oracle
# mkdir -p /u01/app/oracle
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u01
# mkdir -p /u02/oradata/data
# chown -R oracle.oinstall /u02

Add shared disks without shutdown vm
Hi all,
we have a Pc with VMWare 2 and two VMS with
Oracle 10g on RAC and CentOS 4.7 . There are two nodes (or vms): rac1 and rac2.
Each VM has shared SCSI disks.
Is there any way to add shared disks without shutdown the VMs?
thank you.Well,
Look the link:
http://www.vmware.com/support/ws5/doc/ws_disk_add_virtual.html
You must shutdown the instance.
but in your case, I dont know, maybe shutdown one VM, add the disk, and restart.
So, shutdown other vm, add the same disk, and restart. After, you can add the disk to disk group
if you are using ASM.
Please, correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers -
Resize the CentOS LVM inside VM from a secondary virtual hard disk
Requirement:
Airwave installed on a VM, with a secondary virtual hard disk.
we have a KB "Resizing the centOS LVM inside VM", is only useful if we have one hard disk for that VM instance.
https://arubanetworkskb.secure.force.com/pkb/articles/FAQ/Resizing-CentOS-LVM-inside-VM
However, This KB will be helpful in the scenario's where VM Administrators has to create a secondary virtual Hard disk, instead of increasing the disk space for current hard disk (could be for any reason for example: he cannot increase the disk space for the same disk as the pool that provides space to that disk has no space etc..).
Solution:
In this case, when we have added a secondary virtual hard disk, when we do # fdisk -l, we will see the secondary disk as /dev/sdb as shown below:
[root@localhost mercury]# fdisk -l
Disk /dev/sda: 42.9 GB, 42949672960 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 5221 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x000650f3
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 13 102400 83 Linux
Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary.
/dev/sda2 13 5222 41839616 8e Linux LVM
Disk /dev/sdb: 17.2 GB, 17179869184 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2088 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000
Disk /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01: 4294 MB, 4294967296 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 522 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000
Disk /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00: 38.5 GB, 38520487936 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4683 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00000000
And this is the # df -h, command output, before the LVM extension:
[root@localhost mercury]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
36G 11G 23G 32% /
tmpfs 3.7G 0 3.7G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1 97M 37M 56M 40% /boot
We need to extend the sdb disk space to VG group to combine to use the disk space as shown below in the configuration:
Configuration:
1. First, we need to create a partition in /dev/sdb
[root@localhost mercury]# fdisk /dev/sdb
# n {new partition}
# p {primary partition}
# 1 {select partition number, by default 3 is the next available}
# use the default cylinder values for First and last
# t {select partition id we just made (1)}
# 8e {Linux LVM partition}
# p {print. the new device should be described as Linux LVM}
# w {write to memory}
2. We need pv reate /dev/sdb1:
[root@localhost mercury]# pvcreate /dev/sdb1
3. Execute the command to extend the VG to sdb1:
[root@localhost mercury]# vgextend VolGroup00 /dev/sdb1
4. Enter the command to extend the LV to sdb1:
[root@localhost mercury]# lvextend /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /dev/sdb1
5. Resize the VG:
[root@localhost mercury]# resize2fs /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00
Done.
Verification
Now look at the # df -h, output, which will be different:
[root@localhost mercury]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00
52G 11G 38G 22% /
tmpfs 3.7G 0 3.7G 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda1 97M 37M 56M 40% /bootHi Eric,
"My first thought was to do is reduce the drive, which I know cannot be done. I then thought to convert the disk but it consumes the whole of the dynamic potential, which somehow is a maximum of 2TB."
Yes , we can not get the disk space less than 2TB .
As a workaround , you can try the following steps :
1) defrag the volume in VM , after that shutdown the VM
2) use "edit disk" in hyper-v manager to compact the VHD file
3) start that VM then shrink the volume that the disk space is larger than the VM needs in disk manager
This may limits the expansion accordingly .
Hope it helps

Unable to capture startup and shutdown event of Photoshop in automation Plugin.
Hi,
I am creating an automation plugin and I want to register some events. I have seen listener plugin sample to register event in startup and unregister event in shutdown. I have used same code in my plugin but I am unable to capture the startup nad shutdown event of Photoshop. On clicking the menu item of my plugin the calls come inside the AutoPluginMain but during the startup or shutdown of plugin, the calls does not come inside the AutoPluginMain.
I am unable to detect the cause of the problem. Can someone please giude me??
Thanks in advance.Hi Tom,
Thanks for the suggestion.
Yes, I am working on Windows. As you suggested, I compiled .rc file but the compile option for .r file was disabled. After compiling the .rc file, I again rebuild the complete project and tested my build. But still I was not able to achive the desired result.
Any other thing that I need to do to make it work?
Thanks -

I also ran a Hardware Test and all the hardware seems ok.
I've taken the battery out of the PMU and it doesn't seem to have any issues starting without that battery in place.
I'm really confused. Why all of a sudden would my computer hate me like this?Hi, Daniel!
You can use this Apple Document to test your QS power supply with a voltmeter, without having to remove it from the Mac. It references a different model, but the only difference is that the voltage at pin 22 is 25 volts on a QuickSilver PSU rather than the 28 volts shown for the Gigabit Ethernet Mac. The procedural steps are the same...
Does the Mac restart properly with the battery removed from the logic board? Does the battery test out okay, or can you swap it with another one?
Gary -
Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!
