Centos VM
Windows 2012 R2 Vhost.
While installating Centos 6.3 in a VM, after installation we did not find any LAN card getting recognized in this VM.
Have also installed latest intergration services in this VM, but for some reason issues continues.
What should we do next whereby LAN card gets recognized in VM in Centos ?
Also, when you created the virtual machine in Hyper-V, did you create it with a Network Adapter, or a Legacy Network Adapter?

Error while running runcluvfy.sh(11g RAC on CentOS 5(RHEL 5))
Oracle Version: 11G
Operating System: Centos 5 (RHEL 5) : Linux centos51-rac-1 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 #1 SMP Wed Apr 1 09:19:18 EDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Question (including full error messages and setup scripts where applicable):
I am attempting to install oracle 11g in a RAC configuration with Centos 5 (redhat 5) as the operating system. I get the following error
ERROR : Cannot Identify the operating system. Ensure that the correct software is being executed for this operating system
Verification cannot complete
I get this error message when I run runcluvfy.sh, to verify the my configuration is clusterable. I don't know why.
I edited the /etc/redhat-release and entered echo "Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 7)" to attempt to fool the installer into thinking its red hat 4.
But still shows the same message.
Anyone knows how to fix this ?
Please help me.http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Oracle/DBA_tips/Linux/LINUX_20.shtml
runcluvfy.sh will not work on centos because the cluster verification utility checks the operating system version using the redhat-release packag and centos do this with his packages, so you must install and use redhat-release package
Get rpm-build to be able to build rpm’s:
[root@centos5 ~]# yum install rpm-build
Get source rpm of redhat-release
[root@centos5 ~]# wget ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/os/SRPMS/redhat-release-5Server-5.1.0.2.src.rpm
Build package:
[root@centos5 ~]# rpmbuild –rebuild redhat-release-5Server-5.1.0.2.src.rpm
Install newly generated rpm:
[root@centos5 ~]# rpm -Uvh –force /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/redhat-release-5Server-5.1.0.2.i386.rpm -
T440P Dual Boot Windows 8 with Centos 7
So I have a T440p with Windows 8 installed. I have been trying to dual boot Centos 7 and also have attempted Centos 6.5. I have been using a bottable USB to perform the installation for both Centos 7 and 6.5.
When I try the Centos 7 install, I set the boot priority to USB first on startup, and it goes to a screen that lists options to install, verify Centos 7 or troubleshoot. Upon selecting any of these options, everytime I get the error message:
"alua: not attached"
When attempting the Centos 6.5 Live DVD install, I try to boot into the Live mode, but it freezes in the process each time.
I have heard about there being issues dual booting Windows 8 in UEFI mode with another Linux Distrobution.
Has anyone here sucessfully dual-booted Centos or any other Linux Distrobution on a T440P?
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.
ThanksIt's been many, many years since I don't do dual boot anymore. Don't find the reason to do it, either. Different kinds of virtualization should be enough. Anyway...

Can not see the design view nor the java file in CentOS
Hi all. I've recently installed JSC2 in CentOS. I find this tool really useful. But I have a problem with the design view and the java file view. At the beginning, when I first create a Page1.jsp, I can see the design view and the java view with no problem. I run apps correctly. But after a while, I get a "null pointer exception" error and I am able to see only the jsp view, not the others. I don't even have the option to see the Design and Java views. And the page icon in the project window appears to be darker than a well working page. I'm not really sure what sequence of actions I do to get this error, it just suddenly happens. What I've done so far in JSC2 is to link to pages in the Page Navigation view. It works fine for a while, but after a while I get the error I've described.
Yes, if I do that It happens the same. I've tried everything. Now I'm using Window$ 2000 and it works properly. Thanks anyway.

CentOS-4.2-x86_64
I have an installation problem with CentOS-4.2-x86_64 on my Compaq computer. I get an error during installation which means I do get the local-disk driver bundled up with the this release of the OS for my Compaq PC. Here is the error message:
An error has occurred; no valid devices were found on which to create new file systems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem.
BTW, I don't have this problem when I install Centos4.4 as the drive gets recognized and partitioning gets underway; but I must use Centos4.2 for firewire driver reasons, which Cenots4.4 does not have... so, it's a catch-22 problem...
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
VilHi Jer:
I am not sure how to make a driver disk. Where would be my source for drivers, what would the driver be called, and how would I install the driver?
I have all four iso images that I burned into a CD and that's all I have (CentOS 4.2 64 bit).
I know for a fact that because my hardware is brand new and came with a serial hard drive (ATA), and, apparently, VenOS 4.2 supports/has drivers for IDE drives (older drive technology) alone. The question is where to get and incorporate driver for ATA drives
into 4.2 -- Centos 4.4 has the driver, and I must stick to 4.2.
Thx,

Installation Problem on CentOS
Hello guys,
i am using an Centos 6.2 linux with installed oracle-xe. I have installed it from an rpm.
I use always the default settings.
After that i could start it normal and successful connect to apex.
Now i want to create an database user.
I connect as sysdba: sqlplus "sys as sysdba" and enter the password.
The message: "Connect to an idle instance" comes.
If i try: "CREATE USER HTS IDENTIFIED BY pw1;" the error ora-01034 occurred.
If i try: "startup" the error ora-01078 and lrm-00109: could not open parameter file '/u01/app/oracle/prodcut/11.2.0/xe/dbs/initxe.ora' occurred.
I have read a lot but i don't see the solution for my problem.

Hi,
I just installed CentOS on a new virtual machine for testing. I need to run Firefox 28 on it.
NO. Don't argue. It needs to be firefox 28.. Yes, I know firefox 35 is out. Yes I know it fixes important vulnerabilities. Yes, I know it has a load of new features. That information won't help me in the slightest. I need Firefox 28 on this virtual machine for a very specific reason, firefox 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 won't be suitable for this purpose.... The reason I need it is to do with testing a specific website compatibility with older browser versions on multiple operating systems. I am fully aware that the latest version of firefox is the "best"... but it's not what I need right now, so please don't ask questions like "why are you using an older version" or suggest things like "you know, it's really in your best interests to use the latest version"... I get it, OK.... but that's not a helpful reply to this question, because I have a really specific requirement here.
... sorry if that seems rude, I just know what sort of replies get posted here whenever someone suggests using an older browser. I do get why people give such advice. I do understand the benefits of keeping computers that connect to the internet up to date. This particular Virtual Machine won't actually be used to connect to the internet... just to a test website on an intranet.
So the problem I have is that this installation of CentOS 6.4 (x64) comes with Firefox 31. When it first opens, before I have a chance to toggle off update checking, it begins downloading Firefox 35.0.1 and I haven't figured out how to abort the download. I thought about killing the task, but I feared what that might do. So I let it update to Firefox 35 and thought I'd just downgrade it to Firefox 28 afterwards.
I do have the standalone installation of Firefox 28 for linux (firefox-28.0.tar.bz2). I can extract it on the CentOS virtual machine. I thought for my purpose, I could then just run the browser binary.... but it started updating before I could change the option to never check for updates... and there's no option to abort the download there....... sigh...
So I tried editing the file update-setting.ini. I was quite hopeful when I saw it say:
; If you modify this file updates may fail.
; Do not modify this file.
So I changed the setting below to say:
[Settings]
ACCEPTED_MAR_CHANNEL_IDS=dont_update_this_please
hoping that my rather rash change might indeed cause updates to fail :-)
Sadly, it seems that the updates are still happening.
Basically here is what I need on CentOS - A way to run Firefox 28 without it updating to a newer version without asking me first. I don't mind if it keeps asking me... so long as it asks me instead of just doing it without asking.
Just to be clear again - this is for a test configuration I have to build, on a virtual machine. It's OK for this one specific machine to have vulnerabilities, it's OK that it doesn't have all the new features of Firefox 35. It's what I need. It won't be used to browse the internet and go to dangerous web sites that might implant malicious code. It will only be used to connect to a specific web server, behind a corporate firewall, that my company tightly controls. I'm pretty sure doesn't have malware on it (if it does, I have much bigger problems that using an old version of a browser) . Then in a few weeks time, this VM will be deleted, along with the old version of Firefox I hope to have running on it.
Incidentally, I may also have to repeat whatever I'm doing here later on another CentOS VM to install Firefox 27, 26, 25... but I'm hoping I don't have to... but I assume that whatever procedure works for Firefox 28 will work for these other slightly older versions too... don't worry, I don't have to go all the way back to Firefox 1.0... it's not THAT bad :-)
So, with the understanding very clear that normally you would probably recommend just using the latest version.... can anyone help me ?
Thanks in advance.Firefox tarballs from Mozilla Org use prefs within Firefox for updates. The "toggle" for not automatically updating - '''app.update.enabled''' and where to look for updates - '''app.update.url'''. The first needs to be '''''false''''' and the second could be a '''''null''''' string, do an update can't be found.
''I use both prefs to keep Firefox from updating by itself. I install each new version of Firefox as it is released, and keep the older versions around for reference purposes. Those prefs are the same since Firefox 1.5 came out.''
The versions of Firefox that are part of an operating system installation usually are that OS's own build of Firefox, and don't use the same update setup as Mozilla uses, in most cases. I am not familiar with Cent OS, but Ubuntu and Debian look for Firefox updates and from their own program repository servers outside of Firefox - as with the tarballs from Mozilla. -
Trouble adding regular oracle oci8 support to RPM, CentOs 5

It seems that i'm missing smth simple while trying to add oci8 support to RPM.

%description
PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. PHP attempts to make it
easy for developers to write dynamically generated webpages. PHP also
offers built-in database integration for several commercial and
non-commercial database management systems, so writing a
database-enabled webpage with PHP is fairly simple. The most common
use of PHP coding is probably as a replacement for CGI scripts.
The php package contains the module which adds support for the PHP
language to Apache HTTP Server.

How to set up Bonding on CentOS 6.2 with Linux Integration Services 3.4
Having a hard time setting up bonding to work on a vm running CentOS 6.2. LinuxICv34.iso is installed. Using three network adapters.
Prior to os install I configured the three Network Adapters with the following settings:
***Via Virtual Switch Manager:
Connection Type: External Network, Allow management os to share network adapter
VLAN ID: Unchecked
SR-IOV: Unchecked (Unsupported on host)
Extensions: MS NDIS Capture = Unchecked | MS Windows Filtering Platform = Checked
***Via VM Settings:
For all adapters:
VLAN ID and Bandwidth Management is unchecked.
In Hardware Acceleration, Enable virtual machine queue is checked, Enable IPsec task offloading is checked, and maximum number is 4096. Additionally, Enable SR-IOV is unchecked.
In Advanced Features, a Static Mac address is assigned and Enable Mac address spoofing is checked, DHCP Guard is unchecked, Router guard is unchecked, Port mirroring is None, and NIC Teaming is checked.
Mac Address for each Adapter:
Network Adapter 1: 00:25:0D:20:20:1A
Network Adapter 2: 00:25:0D:20:20:1B
Network Adapter 3: 00:25:0D:20:20:1C
After the os and LinuxICv34.iso was installed, I set up networking access on eth0 by making the following changes:
vi /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE="eth0"
HWADDR="00:25:0D:20:20:1A"
NM_CONTROLLED="no"
ONBOOT="yes"
BOOTPROTO="static"
IPADDR="10.1.1.110"
NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
GATEWAY="10.1.1.100"
DNS1="10.1.1.105"
DNS2="10.1.1.106"
Then:
vi /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=MyCentOS6.MyActiveDirectoryDomain
GATEWAY=10.1.1.100
and finally:
vi /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 10.1.1.105
nameserver 10.1.1.106
I entered service network restart and was able to ping google.com so I then moved on to setting up eth1, eth2, and bond0.
DEVICE="eth1"
HWADDR="00:25:0D:20:20:1B"
NM_CONTROLLED="no"
ONBOOT="yes"
MASTER="bond0"
SLAVE="yes"
USERCTL="no"
DEVICE="eth2"
HWADDR="00:25:0D:20:20:1C"
NM_CONTROLLED="no"
ONBOOT="yes"
MASTER="bond0"
SLAVE="yes"
USERCTL="no"
DEVICE="bond0"
USERCTL="no"
BOOTPROTO="none"
ONBOOT="yes"
IPADDR="10.1.1.110"
NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
BONDING_OPTS="miimon=100 mode=balance-alb"
TYPE="Bonding"
I then went back into eth0 and changed it to:
DEVICE="eth0"
HWADDR="00:25:0D:20:20:1A"
NM_CONTROLLED="no"
ONBOOT="yes"
#BOOTPROTO="static"
#IPADDR="10.1.1.110"
#NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
#GATEWAY="10.1.1.100"
#DNS1="10.1.1.105"
#DNS2="10.1.1.106"
MASTER="bond0"
SLAVE="yes"
USERCTL="no"
Next I added file /etc/modprobe.d/bonding.conf per CentOS 6 instructions, and wrote the following line on the file:
alias bond0 bonding
I then entered service network restart and expected everything to work, but instead received these error messages:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): bond0: link is not ready
bonding: bond0: Error: dev_set_mac_address of dev eth0 failed! ALB mode requires that the base driver support setting the hw address also when the network device's interface is open
bonding: bond0: Error: dev_set_mac_address of dev eth1 failed! ALB mode requires that the base driver support setting the hw address also when the network device's interface is open
bonding: bond0: Error: dev_set_mac_address of dev eth2 failed! ALB mode requires that the base driver support setting the hw address also when the network device's interface is open
I have tried commenting out the mac addresses, USERCTL=no and NM_CONTROLLED=no in the ifcfg files but that hasn't helped.
I'm running out of ideas... Can anyone give me some tips?
Much appreciated~Hello ECase,
i known my answer is probably too late but maybe it can help others who are having the same difficulties. My setup looks almost like yours and I did the same steps as you did. Unfortunately with exactly the same results.
What helped in my case was to change the teaming mode.
These are the modes available in CentOS:
mode=0 (Balance-rr) –
This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.
mode=1 (active-backup) –
This mode provides fault tolerance.
mode=2 (balance-xor) –
This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.
mode=3 (broadcast) –
This mode provides fault tolerance.
mode=4 (802.3ad) –
This mode provides load balancing and fault tolerance.
mode=5 (balance-tlb) –
Prerequisite: Ethtool support in the base drivers for retrieving the speed of each slave.
mode=6 (balance-alb) –
Prerequisite: Ethtool support in the base drivers for retrieving the speed of each slave.
Mode 0 -4 worked great while mode 5 and 6 don't work at all. So if you try bonding on a CentOS guest in Hyper-V keep mode between 0 and 4

Error while installing Oracle 10g on CentOS 5.5
Hello,
I have been using the following url to install oracle 10g R2:
http://onaxer.com/blog/blog/tag/oracle-10g-r2-installtion-on-centos-5-5rhel/
I have copied the oracle 10g R2 linux version from windows to linux using FTP.
All the installer requirements have been met, but i'm getting the following error while running the installation:

Thanks.Hi,
Download & Install the following rpm and retry oracle installation.
http://oss.oracle.com/projects/compat-oracle/dist/files/Enterprise_Linux/xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386.rpm
installation
rpm -i xorg-x11-libs-compat-6.8.2-1.EL.33.0.1.i386.rpm
After the RPM, is installed, you will also need to override the /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 with the one from /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6.
As root, issue the commands:
mv /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6.ORG
ln –s /usr/X11R6/lib/libXtst.so.6 /usr/lib/libXtst.so.6

DISPLAY not set. Please set the DISPLAY and try again.
Depending on the Unix Shell, you can use one of the following commands as examples to set the DISPLAY environment variable:
- For csh: % setenv DISPLAY 192.168.1.128:0.0
- For sh, ksh and bash: $ DISPLAY=192.168.1.128:0.0; export DISPLAY
Use the following command to see what shell is being used:
echo $SHELL
Use the following command to view the current DISPLAY environment variable setting:
echo $DISPLAY
- Make sure that client users are authorized to connect to the X Server.
To enable client users to access the X Server, open an xterm, dtterm or xconsole as the user that started the session and type the following command:
% xhost +
To test that the DISPLAY environment variable is set correctly, run a X11 based program that comes with the native operating system such as 'xclock':
% <full path to xclock.. see below>
If you are not able to run xclock successfully, please refer to your PC-X Server or OS vendor for further assistance.
Typical path for xclock: /usr/X11R6/bin/xclock
[oracle@staging database]$ echo $SHELL
/bin/bash

xclock
If/when xclock fails, then OUI will fail. -

CentOS 5.4 64 bit srss 4.2 troubles
Hi have 3 sun ray 170 thin clients that used to work on an older sunfire v250, but now we have upgraded to a new IBM 3500 series running CentOS 5.4 64 bit. We are trying to get the thin 170s to work with the new 4.2 version of sun ray software. We had licensing for 3.1 as far as I read it won't work with RHEL 5 so I downloaded the free trial of 4.2.
I have tried for 4 days with no luck in getting it to work. I have installed all the prerequisites for RHEL 5 update 3 [Could it be it does not work on update 4????].
Except the JRE, CentOS 5 has 1.6 openjdk [mixed mode] and I just pointed to that during configuration.
When I ran utinstall I got no errors, everything installed great. I printed the installation log and no errors. utadm -A went fine too no problems the dhcpd.conf file was sent up and seems to be working fine. utconfig also went fine the first time I installed it I used tomcat5 that I can get for CentOS 5 but the web console did not work. I just get a blank page. I installed again this time I first installed the apache-tomcat that is downloaded with srss 4.2 and installed in /opt just like it says here
http://wikis.sun.com/display/SRSS4dot2/Home
Again I print out the logs and no errors and I just get a blank page on 1660 and 1661 nothing, maybe this needs to be running to configure the whole things. With 3.1 I just skip the web console because all I need is a thin client,.
I can't run utfwsync [it says to do this off the wiki] I get an error about not being able to get gstatus for the server ????whatever that is???
When I connect the 170s I see one of the dhcp range IPs and the MAC address for the 170 then the <-----> icon with 100F and the IP of the server at the bottom I get a code of 22D then the client resets and this goes on for ever.
No firewall or SELINUX is on or was on during installation.
I am running out of patience with this. Does anyone have any suggestions or have any additional info [logs, support, etc] regarding installing on CentOS 5.4 64 bit and why it does not work. Actually how can I tell everything is up? I mean I see a bunch of ut processes when I run ps but have no idea what should be up.
Also there is mention about using ldap and although all the ldap rpms are loaded I did not configure anything nor see instructions on having to do so.
Also any suggestions on any other software that can work with CentOS 5.4 64 bit using the sun ray 170 as thin clients besides srss4.2 would be welcome.
Thanks in advancebdajames wrote:

I have installed all the prerequisites for RHEL 5 update 3 [Could it be it does not work on update 4????].While not officially qualified on that release, it worked for me. On a fresh install of 5.4 on an x64 platform I needed to install the 32-bit ndbm and libXfont packages in addition to the prerequisites listed for 5.3.
Except the JRE, CentOS 5 has 1.6 openjdk [mixed mode] and I just pointed to that during configuration.The JRE that was on your 64-bit Linux? That won't work. It needs a 32-bit JVM 1.6 that is fully compatible with Sun JNI. Not sure, if openjdk works - better use a 32-bit JRE from Sun.

But I suspect this is also caused by using the wrong JRE.
I can't run utfwsync [it says to do this off the wiki] I get an error about not being able to get gstatus for the server ????whatever that is???This tells you that the utauthd daemon is not running. Probably caused by using the wrong JVM.
When I connect the 170s I see one of the dhcp range IPs and the MAC address for the 170 then the <-----> icon with 100F and the IP of the server at the bottom I get a code of 22D then the client resets and this goes on for ever.

Actually how can I tell everything is up? I mean I see a bunch of ut processes when I run ps but have no idea what should be up.The basic test that the utauthd process is up and running is to look at the group status (the 'gstatus' you wondered about):
$ /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utgstatus.
If you get "Error: Could not get gstatus information", then the service is down on this server.
You can often find out more about what is going wrong, if you look at the following log files:
/var/opt/SUNWut/log/auth_log - if the utauthd daemon fails (i.e no 'gstatus')
/var/opt/SUNWut/log/utwebadmin.log - if the webconsole fails
/var/opt/SUNWut/log/messages - if the daemons are up, but connection still fails
/var/log/gdm/<display>.log - if everything else seems to work, but the DTU is stuck in status 26{code}
Also there is mention about using ldap and although all the ldap rpms are loaded I did not configure anything nor see instructions on having to do so.
LDAP is used internally by SRSS, but you usually don't need to deal with that directly in any way.
Also any suggestions on any other software that can work with CentOS 5.4 64 bit using the sun ray 170 as thin clients besides srss4.2 would be welcome.
There isn't really any other software for this.

Why are songs missing with new Itunes 11
Sign me up with all the others that hates the new Itunes update! We should have been warned that this was not the usual update. Anyway, I've spent a lifetime loading songs from cds, albums (yes albums!) as well as purchasing songs from Itunes. It
