Central Instance on Windows, Dialog Instance on HP-UX

Hi,
Is it possible to have Central Instance installed on Windows 2003 and Dialog Instance on HP-UX 11.23?
Thanks
Mahendra

Hi Mahendra,
I guess it depends wether you want to have ABAP only, or j2ee stack as well.
The J2ee stack over multiple OS (read J2EE SDK's) for CI and Dialog instances is not supported.
There is a note about it, but i do not have the number right now.

  • Remotely stop\start your Windows Dialog Instance from System i CI

    Hi All,
Is there a way to remotely stop and start your Dialog Instance running on Windows from your system 'i' Central Instance?
    Thanks,
    Diana

    Hello Diane,
We thought about the situation and came to the conclusion, that with the 720 DCK the restriction of only starting/stopping IBM I remote instances with one STARTSAP/STOPSAP call can be dropped.
The new note 1644051 will describe what to do.
    Here is a short summary:
You have to apply the 720 DCK to all instances of your SAP system following note 1636252. Also follow this note to obtain info when 720 DCK will be available for all SAP Systems newer than SAP NetWeaver 7.0 ("7.00") without restrictions.
You have to apply at least the 720 dw patch #67 to all instances (all platforms).
You have to apply at least the 720 ILE Patch #111 (I think this will be the number, but for the official number wait for note 1644051) to all IBM I hosted instances.
Of course the first stack kernel available after complete 720 DCK availability will contain all patches needed.
Please remove any additional stuff from the START profile which you added to start/stop remote windows Instances along with your central Instance.
    Then you can call
    STARTSAP SID(<sapsid>) INSTANCE(ALL) INSTHOST(ALL)
    STOPSAP SID(<sapsid>) INSTANCE(ALL) INSTHOST(ALL)
to start and stop really all instances out of the box.
    Kind Regards
    Joachim

  • Central instance on Windows , DB instance on UNIX

    Hi,
Client wanted to install ECC6 implementation on hetrogeneous environment. Database instalnce on HP-UX , Central instance on Windows2003. I know that technically it is possible but it is very complex . My questions is do we face any problems during installation / after that installation. What about future upgradation ? how simple ? what are the disadvantages if we select this senario. Also license ,software download on windows/unix We need to put all this to client .
    Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance
    Kristene

    Hi Kristene,
from my point of view it is not more complex as any other heterogeneous three tier installation. I think the most important question for you should be "What is the motivation of your client to choose this combination?".
The advantages are probably good performance for a low price. The Windows application servers leverage a very good performance but they does not scale as good as some Unix flavors. My recommendation would be to use 4 CPUs with or without dual Core technology and 16-32GB of Memory. On the other hand you have a scalable database server with HP-UX (at least you can get one from HP - probably not as cheap as the Windows servers).
The disadvantages are that you have a inhomogeneous environment and you need knowledge for two platforms. You may be run into problems because the combination is not as well tested as others. But this is only a small risk, because you and I don't know how well which combinations gets tested. May be your target combination is not as extra ordinary as you expect.
From a license perspective or upgrade path you'll have no problem. But, you may be should ask HP which of the available CPUs you should choose. I would assume that Itanium is preferred by HP, but I can be wrong. Also on Windows you may be should ask which CPU you should use (Core 2, AMD or Itanium). I personally wouldn't choose Itanium for Windows (price / performance and unknown availability of Windows for Itanium in the future).

  • ADS in the Java stack of a Dialog instance on Windows + CI on iSeries

    Hi,
I read the document "Using Adobe Document Services with SAP on IBM DB2 for i5/OS".
    Summary of the document -
There are two possible technical scenarios:
    1. ADS in the Java stack of a Dialog instance on Windows
1.1. ABAP+Java dialog instance on Windows
1.2. Java dialog instance on Windows
    2. ADS in a SAP system on a supported platform
    2.1. ABAP+Java central instance on Windows/Unix
2.2. Java central instance on Windows/Unix
The document recomammeds technical scenario 1, that is, install a Windows Dialog instance.
Choosing an ABAP+Java or Java system depends on the usage scenario for Interactive Forms:
    - Interactive PDF use: Java mandatory, ABAP+Java possible
    - Interactive use in SAP Maanger Self_Services/batching of forms:
ABAP+Java mandatory but Note 993612 describes the status for NW04s SP12 onwards.
    End of summary -
Our prefered rechnical scenario is: "1.2. Java dialog instance on Windows" to minimice resources.
Our usage scenario for Interactive Forms includes "SAP Manager Self- Services".
Our interpretation of note 993612 is that we do not need double stack installation. Could you confirnm this ?.
If yes, we are going to install a Java Dialog instance on Windows connected to our Java Central instance on iSeries (our SAP Portal system) to use ADS.
    Best regards.

    Hello Torrell,
your statements sound reasonable, also including SAP Note 993612.
To decide, though, whether a single stack would be enough (especially based on the aforementioned note), you will need the advise of an ADS application expert (or someone else who has implemented your scenario, independent of the platform).
I thus assume that you will not get an answer in this forum. Your question is ADS application specific.
When you know for sure that a single stack will be enough, your approach to use a Windows dialog instance will be fine.
    Best regards, Barbara

  • How to add a java dialog instance to Java central instance of SAP CRM

    Hi Gys,
I have installed a new dialog instance for the CRM Java landscape for the version 7.01 .
CRM Abap instance is seperate and its data accessed by Jco connection by central instance but not dialog instance . Could you please let me know if any configuration steps to be followed.
    Thanks in advance
    Sudhakar

Could you describe your problem a little bit more.
I have installed a new dialog instance for the CRM Java landscape for the version 7.01 .
    CRM Abap instance is seperate
Ok, sounds like 2 Java instances and one ABAP instance.
and its data accessed by Jco connection by central instance but not dialog instance.
This is where I get confused.
Do you have one or more ABAP instances?
What is your actual problem (what do you want to do)?

    Hi Deepak,
Thanks  a lot for your reply, in this case the problem was with the Dialog Instance (Only SAP apps, not Oracle).
We shutdown the instance with the Microsoft SAP Management Console (right  button -> Stop).
In general to shutdown the SAP System we first:
    1. Shutdown The Dialog Instance. (SAP Management Console)
    2. Shutdown The Central Instance. (SAP Management Console)
    3. Shutdown Oracle (BR*Tools).
    4. Stop SAP and Oracle Services.
Maybe is more a problem of Windows Memory Management.....

  • Dialog Instance Host Name

    Hi,
I am having a problem in SM51 where the dialog instance host name is the same as the central instance host name.
Server Name     Host Name     Message Types                          Server Status
HHA55_ECP_00     HHA55          Dialog Batch Update Upd2 Spool ICM J2EE       Active
HHA56_ECP_00     HHA55          Dialog Batch Update Upd2 Spool ICM J2EE       Active
We have a central instance and a dialog instance installed on seperate nodes in a HA cluster. This problem only happens when the message server runs on the primary node. When the message server is failed over to the node where the dialog instance runs the hostname for HHA56_ECP_00 is HHA56 which is correct. This is effecting load balancing and prevents me from signing on through the Portal with the HTML gui.
I have checked the parameters for each of the instance profiles which are correct. The message server points to a virtual host and SAPLOCALHOST and SAPGLOBALHOST are correctly defined for each instance. I have setup each instance to use the logon group PUBLIC in SMLG. The hosts and services files are the same in each node of the cluster. I can successfully resolve the host names using DNS. Also the internal RFC destinations in SM59 are configured with the correct hosts.
Does anyone know where the data for these host names is maintained?
    Thank you!

    I have solved the problem.
I discovered the network bindings were being accessed in the wrong order.

  • Windows Central Instance ABAP+JAVA plus UNIX ABAP dialog instances ?

    Hi everybody,
we are an SAP software partner and provide SAP complementary software on UNIX and Windows platforms.
Part of our software (a gateway) needs to be installed on the SAP application server.
In order to setup a cross-platform test environment for our developers, I was thinking about extending the existing SAP ERP 6.0 Windows-based Central Instance (IDES, Oracle, usage types ABAP+JAVA) by multiple ABAP dialog instances which run on different UNIX flavours (Solaris, AIX, Linux).
I searched the SAP Notes and found nothing which could confirm my plans, as this is quite an unusual setup and heterogenous systems are usually the other way round (CI on UNIX, DI on Windows).
SAP Note 1067221 however mentions that DIs on different OS platforms are only partly supported, but it seems this is only valid for JAVA DIs?
As I need only ABAP DIs, I hope my plans are fine?
    Many thanks for your feedback

Well - what is "usual" depends on the requirements
It's possible to do that. Technically there's no difference whether an application server is Unix or Windows based.
There are, however, a few things to take care of:
    - if your system is non-Unicode, sorting algorithms are different on different platforms. Unicode systems use ICU which is cross-platform
    - if you want to automatically distribute your kernel on system start you will need to create a "share" on the Windows machine and make it accessible from  the various other platforms. You can, however, ensure "manually", that you use the same kernel patchlevels on all systems, then this is not needed
    - Windows is LittleEndian whereas most Unix systems are BigEndian, depending on if you exchange data between those systems (means, binary data, files through NFS) the programs must be aware of the fact, that a file can be either LE or BE.

  • Unicode WAS Central Instance on Windows Server 2003.

    Hi
I'm trying to install the WAS (Component of Netweaver) Central Instance (MS SQL 2000 DB) on Windows Server 2003. Less than a minute into the installation, I get the following error.
    Transaction begin ********************************************************
    ERROR 2016-11-25 01:07:10
MDB-05036  Error when creating sqldmo SqlServer object
    ERROR 2016-11-25 01:07:10
MDB-05034  Call to a threaded function returned "1".
    Transaction end **********************************************************
Can someone please help resolve it?
    Appreciate all help. Thank U.
    Rajendra.

    Hi Mahendra,
I guess it depends wether you want to have ABAP only, or j2ee stack as well.
The J2ee stack over multiple OS (read J2EE SDK's) for CI and Dialog instances is not supported.
There is a note about it, but i do not have the number right now.

  • Installing dialog instance on windows

    Hi Champs,
Im trying to install Netweaver EP WAS server with MaxDB on Windows XP. I am a beginner in basis activity. I have successfully installed Central Instance and it is up and running fine. Now I am trying to install a Dialog instance. But when I run the sapinst.exe again it does not show me an option to install dialog instance. I tried giving same SID but it didnt work. It didn't create a DI. Can you please tell me what steps I have to perform to create a DI associated with the current CI?
    Regards,
    Piyush.

    Hi Uday,
Thanks for you prompt reply. I have this guide but I am finding difficulty in finding the correct way to install a DI. Can you please provide the steps that need to be performed? I tried running sapinst.exe again with same SID but it didnt work.
    Regards,
    Piyush.

  • Differnce between central instance ,dialog instance and application instanc

    Hi all
Please explain me what is central instance. what is it differnce betwenn the
other instances like dilaog instance ,apllication instance.
What is the exact use of having many instances ?
    regards
    Sanjeev.S

    Hi Sanjeev,
First of all let me Clarify between Cental instance(CI)and Central Service instance(SCS). When you install NW04/NW04s systems on WIndows, when you open you windows console, you would first find the SID name that you have installed and when you expand this you'll find 2 instances. When you expand the first instance you'll find that there are message server and Enqueue server listed. This instance is called as Central Service instance or simply called SCS. You can look at the folder structure /usr/sap/<SID>/.
Now the second instance is called as Central instance, when expanded you would see a SDM, a dispatcher and a server node. This is the instance which processes all your requests.
Now answering your question about Dialog instance, When the CI is overloaded, i.e. your dispatcher is overloaded and your server is overloaded , you would install a dialog instance, which means that the database need not be installed for the Dialog instance and it can be on any system. While installing the Dialog instance it would ask you which Cental instance I have to refer, then you would be giving the necessary system to which you have created a dialog instance.
    Giving a graphical view,
    SID < J2E>
    < DATABASE>
    <hostname>00  message server
                            enqueue server
    <hostname>01  SDM
                            dispatcher
                            server0
This is your one SAP system. Now you feel that this system is overloaded with lot of users, any there are many user who will be logging in again, so what you would do is install a dialog instance which would be referiing to J2E database but will have its own dispatcher and server0. SDM, message server and enqueue server are only one per systems.
Now the dialog instance for J2E would look like this
    SID < K2E>
    <hostname2>01 dispatcher
                             server0
Dialog instance is mainly for load balacing, now you can access the database of J2E by typing a different URL i.e. of K2E and hostname2 but still accees the data of the J2E. The communication between Dialog and Central instance is thru message server.
In case you find it difficult to push thru, please let me know..

  • No CENTRAL nor DIALOG instance known for system SID

    Hi,
We are in the process of setting up our Solution Manager 7.1. Currently we are in the step 'Managed System Configuration'.
We are stuck on the step 7 - "Create Users". There are 4 users to be created which are already there in the systems(Created Manually).
    The users are
SAPSUPPORT and SMDAGENT_XXX for ABAP and Java both.
In the ABAP view it gives the error as "No CENTRAL nor DIALOG instance known for system SID".
In the Java view it gives the error as "User Status Cannot be checked".

    Hello Ajitabh,
I'm sure that you will see this error if you expand the error entry:
SPML service failed to process searchRequest
    1. If you followed the advices from note 1616058, disabling SPML:
When the SPML is desactivated, the status of users can't be checked.
We are working to provide a note to solve this issue. Note number is 1647267, it is not release yet, but the solution is:
"Enable to flag the user creation  to 'manually performed' in solman_setup".
    2. If you didn't disable SPML:
Please refer to the steps in this SAP Note : 1647157 which will help you address the issue.
Please let us know the outcome, thanks.

  • EP Central System + Dialog Instance Installation options

    Hi Friends
For my production EP 6.0 WAS 6.40-Java instance I am getting 3 AIX servers, say server DBserver, Appserver1 & Appserver2, we want to install the database & CI on the DBserver, the other 2 servers need to serve the role of Application servers to the DB+CI server.
In our SAP R/3 Production systems we don't allow the users to login to the server hosting the (database+CI) & we allow them to login only to the appication servers, I want to do a similar setup for my Production portal landscape & require that the portal users are load-balanced using the SAP Web Dispatcher to the 2 application servers.
I have 2 questions on which installation options to choose to achieve the above objective.
    1.  Can somebody check & confirm if the below mentioned Installation sequence is correct for Installing the WAS on the 3 servers.
    a) Using Installation option "Java System ->Oracle->Central System->Custom Installation-Java system" for the DBserver.
    b) Installation option "Java System ->Oracle->Central System->Dialog Instance Installation" for Appserver1 & Appserver2.
    2. Can somebody advice how do I need to install the portal on the 3 servers so that the above objective of load-balancing the users to the 2 App servers is met.
    a) Do I need to install portal only on the DB+CI server & then the portal platform will be setup on the 2 App servers as well or
    b) Can I install the portal separately on the 2 portal App servers.
    Thanks & Rgds,
    Abhishek
