Central or distributed portal development team?

In my company's current environment, all portal development work is done by one team that focuses only on Portal.
I have been asked to find a way for other development teams to do development in the Portal.
I am a bit uncomfortable with this for many reasons and wanted to get some feedback on how others handle  it.
Do you have one portal development team?
Do you have developers distributed among othe teams with one team doing only administration?
Any other models?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Paul ,
It is good to have administration team and developers team.
You can restrict developers to only development activities . By doing so only adminstrators will have full control on portal related . You can make them responsible for portal related.
But communication / cooperation between development teams and administrators should be fast .

    Hi Sir ,
I'm a Student doing Software Engineering and Developing Software Project Portal (automation of Institutional(university Final Year Software Projects Process)
Previously My university was not allowed me to develop Final Year Degree project on PLATFORM.. so I've tryed to develop it using Java Portlet AAI and other methodologies .. but unfortunately I've fielded to develop that Portal
now my university has allowed me to develop on WebCenter Portal Development Framework... I've little know ADF ... now I only have 12 day to develop and deliver .I'm following

I’ve Created DEV , UCM and PORTAL schema from RCU. and Then try to install UCM ,when schema password screen appear for LOGIN and Create weblogic domain , It tell me INCORRECT PASSWORD, SO , I’ve DROP these 3 schema using RCU , during DROP schema, different errors appeared , and I’ve DELETED the middle ware\rcu_Home folder and Unzip the rcu.rar fresh file to the same directory
    NOW
when I RUN rcu.bat and selected CREATE SCHEMA then RCU WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO CREATE SCHEMA FOR PORTAL , DEV , UCM ..and also they appear in combo box to select
    BUT I’ve ALREADY DROP THAT
I think it only droped not DELETED
tell me the sqlplus commands fro DELETE schema. and also tell if it is DANGEROUS to delete some schema(example DEV schema) as I’m developing portal via WEB CENTER -Jdeveloper(integrated weblogic) , Xe , RCU, UCM )

I Basically need to provide JSF Pages and portlets for Users (Student groups - Project Supervisors - Project Coordinator )
I have to create Users and their Pages(Project Coordinator - Project Supervisor and STUDENT Group's)
1)Project Coordinator is the Head Who Allocated Project Supervisors to the Student Group in response to Messages(sent from the portlet at home page)from the students that desire to make group and want desire supervisor . in response to this message the Supervisor can Reply and ASK FOR MEETING and the the coordinator has the authority to ALLOCATE
2)Project Coordinator Create PLAN (1 year Plan) in tabular form (for example Project Group Supervisor and Its STUDENT GROUP has to Deliver 20 MILESTONE Deliverable throughout the year(Project group Supervisor can Divide Each MILESTONE into TASK and SUB TASKS...and Student Group has to Upload )
Supervisor can give the task to student group and student group has to upload /Submit the required Deliverable /(task file ) supervisor within the given period MARK THIS TASK AS AN OK AND GIVE ANOTHER TASK OR ASK FOR METING
    in this way We achieve/provide
Provide Central Repository for the Whole Software Projects that are Valuable ..

  • Distributed Portal Environment Query

We currently have a centralised G6 portal environment in which we have a single Portal server and another hosting Collab.
We have a requirement which might lead to us having to provide another portal server and collab server at one of our remote sites, although in another domain, that as a result will extend the reach of our current portal. The portal and collab databases would remain at the central location so these remote 'services' would need access back to them we assume. Currently there is also a Firewall on the WAN between these 2 sites.
We have tried to find other articles on distributed Portal configurations to see if this is possible but have not really come up with anything so I am hoping other users in this forum might help.
The main points we are trying to understand initially are:
    1) Firstly can you distribute portal &/or Collab servers in this way?
    2) What ports would the firewall need to allow for the remote Portal server to talk back to the central SQL*Server database.
    3) Can you distribute Collab Server across 2 servers in this way and if so what do they need to talk back to the central database. The requirement is to be able to share the projects across the 2 collab servers so that users connecting to the central server can collaborate with those connecting to the remote server.
    4) We are assuming that authentication from the remote site into the central AD domain will be OK as we can host the AD AWS centrally.
    Any input appreciated,
    Ross

    Geoff,
Thanks for the prompt reply and I can understand why my questions sound slightly confusing as the scenario is not easy to explain in this medium.
What we currently have is 2 portal 'environments', one running internally and another running on another network but which is linked to our own. What we are exploring is whether we can consolidate this into a single environment.
We need to maintain at least one portal server in the other network, which is effectively a DMZ as you imply, for non technical reasons primarily. But our understanding is that this will need to talk back to the portal database which is on our internal network behind a firewall hence the query about firewall ports.
This 'remote' portal also currently hosts a Collab server so we were wondering if their was benefit in keeping a collab server 'local' to the remote users to avoid network traffic. From your reply I conclude this might not be sensible, or even possible, so perhaps we need to migrate these Collab objects back into the internal portal's collab environment and let the remote sites users access it from there.
If this is the case then for improved availability we would probably want to consider Clustering Collab so are you aware of any reference docs on this side of things?
    Thanks,
    Ross

  • Oracle Portal Development from different geographic locations

    Hello,
Have anyone done the development with Oracle Portal from different geographic locations, our customer want to know is there a way we can develop Oracle portal application from different geographic locations and merge it one place.
One reason is because the portal is in the database. If you have two separate groups work to build a single portal, it reason that each team would have their own installation. When these two groups are done (or periodically), the development efforts must be merged into the final complete portal. Is this possible using Oracle Portal (merging portal installations)?
Second reason is that typically other systems owned by the customer are exposed or accessed by portlets. Access to these portlets would probably be required for development. If nothing else then for unit testing.
How do you typically see off-shoring done with Oracle Portal, if at all? Or am I incorrect in my thinkings. How does the Portal meta-data stores the portal configurations is it possible to merge different portal schema into one and make it the main portal environment.
Please let me know if anyone successfully done this. Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Kathir

  • Portals Development - roles & responsiblities

Hello - Wanted to ask the group how they define roles & responsibilities in regards to Portals development.
We have a team of people that manage the portal.  In terms of importing Business Packages, Configuring the Portal, managing security groups & roles, controlling the TLN and SLN navigation, etc.
We also have a team that is responsible for traditional development.  Java, ABAP, HTML, etc.  These are our developers.
Within your Portal environment, where do you draw the lines of responsibilities?  For example, for developing applications using the NW Developer Studio.  Seems logical that a team of developers would handle this.  But, how about for managing objects within the PCD, or creating simple iViews?  Do you have Portal Admins perform that function, or your developers?
    Thank you for your insights.

  • KT sessions for portal development

    Hi,
What are KT sessions? Are they something like online learning courses? Where can I find KT sessions to learn about portal development?
    Thanks in advance

    Sailaja,
KT sessions is a very generic term.
KT sessions are generally referred to as a Knowledge Trasfer sessions. They might happen in a scenario were
    1. Somebody who has worked on the latest technologies, might want to enable the rest of the team to learn about it via a KT session.
    2. It might happen in an organization when you are leaving the current role or job so that the person replacing you has knowledge of what you have worked on and what is to be done.
I guess you are looking at learning sessions rather than KT sessions.
SAP has its own training sessions held.
    http://www.sap.com/services/education/index.epx
Although I would suggest you to first have a look at this before you enroll for a course with SAP or a local instltute(in your city).

  • I am new in portal development . From where to start

    Hello !
I am new in portal development .
i have installed 8i db on Linux and 9iAS on win2k . Now i want
to start developent through oracle portal .
For that purpose i have downloaded PDK .
    Now what to do .
I am still unable to find the platform where i have to start
    development .
Can somebody tell me which steps are required to start
    development.
i am more interested doing development in pl/sql.
Where i have to type the code .
Where i have to execute it.
Where and how to run it.
Can somebody tell me with small example .
    Regards

    Seemab,
I feel your pain. After having been at this for a couple of
months, here's what I have to offer you.
    0) Watch every single one of the portal tutorials on this
website. They are little movies and slide shows with tutorials
and actual application walkthroughs that were EXTREMELY HELPFUL
to me and my team in the absence of formalized training. They
    were really great.
    1) Take a few days and read every single white paper that you
can about Oracle 9iAS Portal and its architecture.
    2) Use the portal interface to create groups and users.
    3) Experiment with as many aspects of the portal interface that
you can. This will help you see the strengths and limitations
of portal, and where you may need to focus your development
    effort.
    4) Create database objects like tables by using the portal
interface. Create an LOV off of one of the tables, and use it
in a form. This is all just general stuff that helped
    familiarize me with portal.
    5) Publish different kinds of documents to the portal.
    6) Create a PL/SQL item in a portal. Educate yourself on the
HTP and HTF procedures and functions to print things to the
    screen dynamically.
    7) Most important of all, download as many pieces of sample
code as you can and install it to portal. On this website you
will find numerous instances of sample portlets and
applications. You will learn what it takes to install Java-
    based providers, servlets, and others.
    8) Using a good PL/SQL tool like SQL*Navigator or TOAD, browse
your way through the PORTAL30 data dictionary, going through all
of the tables and especially the packages. This will help you
learn where you need to write code to interact with the
    underlying objects in Portal.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific than that, but you can really
be on your way to becoming a well-rounded portal developer by
experimenting with these things that I have listed.
    Good luck!
    Sincerely,
    Adrian Klingel

  • Who can help me to submit this bug to the adobe indesign development team?

I developed a indesing plug-in, and its function is to increase the two kinds of footnotes style,
When the user selects this type of footnote style, and insert some footnote to the document
The user then export the document to pdf。
there is no  problem in indesign CS3 and indesign CS4.
but in indesign CS5 and CS5.5,
export pdf, there will be two kinds of format:
    Adobe PDF(Interaction)
    Adobe PDF(Print)
If the user chooses to export a pdf(Interaction),there is no problem,
but if user choose to export to pdf(print),
All of the footnote is replaced by an ordinary Arabic numerals 1,2,3,4,......
I think there is a bug in exported the pdf function in cs5 and cs5.5,
so ,who can help me to submit this bug to the adobe indesign development team? thanks.

I created a pdf form and then imported it to Forms Central for distribute. It is now loaded to my website and setup so a person clicks on the link to open the form. At this point they then have to go to upper right to open form using a different view. I would like the form to open directly in Adobe Reader form to make it easier to enter information. Thanks, Ike

If you created it in Forms Central, you have to edit it there. I believe Forms Central is similar to LiveCycle Designer in that the form created is no longer able to be edited in Acrobat. I might be wrong, but that is my understanding. You add the submit button in Forms Central. Within Acrobat, you should be able to go to the forms menu and Manage Data to save the data to an Excel file. Others better with forms should be by to clarify things, but this should get you started. In the future you might find it better to post a forms question in the forms discussions.

  • Multiple Servers for Development Team in WLI2.1 on wlidomain

Has anyone tried to create multiple servers so that a development team can share
the resources of a domain with WLI 2.1? If so, how did it work. I have done this
with WLS but would like to try it with WLI.
I tried to create multiple servers, but, had difficulty as there seems to many
resources that are tied to the server name and default port. Also, I tried to
change the port and that caused alot of problems on the myserver.

    Thanks John.
I was not looking for something which is scaling out Hyperion Planning(via load balancer)/Horizontal clustering.
But was looking for some thing like Vertical clustering(multiple JVMs/nodes of Hyperion Planning within a single planning server) which was applicable in 11.1.1.3.
Came to know that with 11.1.2.2 vertical clustering not more supported.
