I am new to ALE Material Master Data Distribution and if the questions are incorrectly worded, please accept my apologies. It is due to lack of knowledge.
I am doing Material Master Data distribution and I am using standard basic type MATMAS03. The standard TCode MM01, MM02 has SAP tables and 3 custom tables.
I have turned the active on using BD61 and change pointers to message type.
Q: Is the change pointer, applicable to entire material master? i.e. if I change a field in Z table or standard material tables, can an IDOC be created for the entire material record?
Q: What is the function of BD52? Does this override the option Activate Change pointers for message type? Does it mean, if the changes are made to those fields in BD52 a change pointer is created?
Q: If I change Z table only, will there be a change pointer created? If not, how could I accomplish this using BD52.
Q When do we use the enhancement MGV00001?
Also, If you could add anything in addition to above queries, it will be helpful to me and I appreciate it.

Your tips are good, but, I was not able to get the problem resolved.
Let me explain what I have done based on your tips.
1. MATMAS uses MATMAS03. The basic type has NOT been modified to have z fields yet.
2. Using BD52, i have created the following fields
MATERIAL ZEMM_MARA_TECH IM_ADVISORY_CODE
MATERIAL ZEMM_MARA_TECH KEY.
3. Modified the MMR for IM_ADVISORY_CODE.
I did not see a change pointer for this change.
Q: When I created above entry using BD52, was asking the table name. The table name is stored in TCD0B. What TCode is available the entries in TCDOB. For the time being, i created using SQL.
Q. Is there a follow up configuration required to capture the changes?
I will award the points in a couple of days time, even if I do not get the solution, because you have spent your precious time for the community. I will wait for a couple of days for other suggestions and close the Problem.

LSMW datamigration material master with multiple distribution channels

Hi,
We plan on using the LSMW to migrate our customer's material master to a ECC 6.0 system.
Currently we use the BMM00 and BMMH1 structures, but there I can specify only one distribution channel.
Does anyone know how to include multiple distribution channels in LSMW material master migration?

you need an extra record in your source per distibution channel.
Alternative you can create the extra record with a small Abap code in LSMW in section __END_OF_RECORD__
There you habe in standard the code:
transfer_record.
just add after this statement a statement that gets the additional wanted distribution channel into the distribution channel field.
BMM00-VTWEG = 'xx'.
transfer_record.

Material Master data distribution using the Classifications

Hi All,
I am attempting to cater for a business scenario where we wish to distribute material master records via IDOCS by assigning a class to each material we wish to send out.
We have a new classtype (Z01) which is setup for distribution purposes (the status for this class type has been maintained). I have defined a filter using classes in BD60.
The next step was to setup the distribution model for my message type and partner. I added the filter group in the distribution model for the message type (filter group "dependant on class membership"). The final step after generating the partner profile was to assign a new class that I created to the material master.
We are using change pointers and BD21 to create the IDOCs. I am managing to create the outbound IDOC but I am getting a 29 Status with an error message "Class type Z01 , receiving system ZFR001 : no list maintained". ZFR001 is the name of the external partner. The name of the class that has been assigned to the material master is also ZFR001. There are no characteristics assigned to the class.
Has anyone setup a similar scenario? I'd appreciate any guidance as I have hit a bit of a wall.

The message type to send HR data is HRMD_A, i don't think that filtering this only message you achieve what you describe.
In this message type, yo can define filters to send only the relevant infotypes that you need, but all of them will be send in the same idoc, for one employee.
So I think to achieve what you want, you should create customer Message types (Z's) as reductions of HRMD_A standard message type and then in BD64 create one different Model for each one. So in each model you can put only the infotypes you want. You should very carefull with the updating in your destination system, because if you process all the message type at the same time, there will be a lot of blocking in employee objects.
It is weird what you want to do, but this could be the solution.

Material Master ------ Distribution channel block

Dear Experts
There is a doubt when we give the status indiacator in the MMR in the sales org 1 that this product is obsolete will not be used in the sales organization and distribution channel.
the system does not give the error only the delivery cannot be created from such order but how will the user understand that thsi product is obsolete or replaced or closed down.
there is no pop up message,

You can make it as a warning or error message.
To achieve this, in material master whatever value you have maintained in the said field, make a note of the same.
Now go to TCode OVSU, double click on the status which you have assigned in Material Master so that you can see list of documents that can be blocked. Wherever you maintain B the end user cannot create that document.
Check this and post the feedback in case still you have any issues.

I have done the plant to plant Material master extending
my query is similar way how to approach the material master extending to sales organization , distribution chanel and storage location.
earlier in the plant to plant i have taken the selection screens
parameters : source plant
select option : target plant
materials i have taken is : material type and related but i didn't take any sales org, division and storage.

you can do this through MM01 bdc select sales views and end you data.(for extanding views not in mm02, mm01 only)

Remove Sales Org & Distribution Channel assigned in Material Master

Is it possible to remove Sales Org & Distribution Channel assigned in Material Master. This is a newly created material I looked at MM06 to see if this assignment can be removed without setting the material for deletion. Any suggestions welcome.

the only way to get rit of existing data is to set a deletion indicator and subsequently run archiving.
In your case go to MM06, enter material number, sales org and distribution channel and set then the deletion indicator at this level only.
Then go to SARA object MM_MATNR and run archiving.
Archiving is usually a process, not just a sequence of transactions. Archiving requires customizing, and certainly the most recent OSS notes for the archiving object (this can be extremly many if your hotpackage implementation was long ago).
this is especially needed to archive only certain organisation levels, as this functionality came with OSS notes

Material master distribution through BD10 is not working

hi i am learning and created all the customizing setting to send material master data from sending system to the receiving system but the sending system shows idoc has been sent to port Ok with status 03 but i dont see the material being created in the receiving system. Where am i going wrong? Do i need to trigger BD11 in the receiving system?

              Once we run this program all the IDoc's which are at port are
              sent to their receiving partner...and status becomes 12...

Material Master Distribution

I am currently involved in an ALE project. We want to use ALE to distribute Material Master Data. However there does not appear to be any way to send the Classification Data OR to capture changes (change pointers) to ensure any changes to the classification will be distributed to the relevant logical systems.

Open field for cost center on the material master

We have a unique requirement in a facility we intend to implement plant maintenance in to track a cost center to a material by including the cost center on the material master somewhere. Cost center is not a field on any of the material tabs we use for maintenance materials, but the requirement is just that it is tracked in a field, even if it's just an open field like a "user defined field" or another field not used often. We realize there are disadvantages such as the field not being checked against active cost centers, but we are looking at options short of adding cost center as a field manually to a tab (which I believe would require ABAP assistance). I don't think there are any other fields/tabs we are currently not utilizing but I could be wrong... The best option we can think of is adding it in a material characteristic so it shows on the classifications tab, but I thought I would see if anyone has any other ideas.

Not sure what is the need of cost center on material master when you want to implement Plant maintenance module. Do you have any specific requirement for this?
Ideally cost center will be derived from either functional location/ equipment (equivalent of material master) on to PM work order or notification.
Can you elaborate the requirement?
After all if you wish to go with cost center, then I suggest it should be at plant level as PM requires plant level distribution. You can add up a custom field and give the reference of cost center data element with help of developer.

Defaulting values in material master creation

Hi,
I want to have some filed values to be appeared as default in all the views while creation of material master.
By user settings, I can restrict Org level values such as C Code,S Org Distribution Channel etc etc.
But how to make field values such as account assignment grop,division,valuation class,price control,transport grp,loading grp etc appearing default so that user does not have to think.

Hi,
You can set values for Parameter IDs of the fields that you want to default.
Set values in system -> user profile -> own data under parameters tab.
For example Disision's parameter id is 'SPA'. You can set a default value for division by giving proper value for SPA under parameters data in own data.

Unit of measure in Material Master after PO's created

I know that we can't change the material measure unit once PO's and other documents are created.

Within the material master record maintenance, you want to change the base unit of measure (base unit). During the change, the system performs extensive checks in order to avoid inconsistencies in the applications which use the material master.
In particular, the following checks are performed:
The base unit must not be defined as an alternative unit of measure for the material
No International Article Number must be assigned to the base unit
No proportion/product units must be defined for the material
No configurable material must be assigned
The material must not be used as a configurable material
Stock must neither exist for the previous period nor for the current period
No physical inventory must be active
No reservations or dependent requirements must exist for which the deletion indicator is not set
No planned orders must exist
No purchase requisitions, purchase orders or scheduling agreements must exist for which the deletion indicator is not set
No WM transfer requirements, no WM quants or no WM posting change notices must exist
The material must not be a bill of material
The material must not be contained in a bill of material
The material must not be used as a production resource/tool
The material must not be used in task lists
No standard cost estimate must exist for the current or future period
No production orders must exist
No planned independent requirements must exist
No run schedule headers must exist
If the base unit has dimensions, no serial number profile must be assigned
No sales and distribution documents must exist which have status Not processed or Partially processed.
Solution
If necessary, all reasons mentioned above must be eliminated by archiving the objects listed.

Mass extension of material master to differnt sales area

How can we extend material master to different sales area enmasse.?

A material master is not just linked to a sales area.
you have to create sales views per sales org and distribution channel.
there are many fields in there that need to be maintained, SAP stores this info in table KNVV
if all data in the new sales area is equal to an existing sales area, then you can easily extend using MM17, if not, then you have to use LSMW.
MMSC_MASS is for storage location extension, this is certainly not a transaction to create sales area data views.

Copy characteristic value(class 023 ) from the material master to the batch

Is there a way to copy the characteristic value (class 123) from material master to the batch master automatically once we create a batch of that material

I dont know if its possible in standard, you can try and create a reference batch, and use the below user exit I found in SAP library :
Set Up Customer Exit for Determining Source Batch
You can use function module exit EXIT_SAPLV01Z_011 in SAP enhancement SAPLV1ZN when assigning characteristic values to batches. You use this to specify a reference batch when creating a new batch with the central function module VB_CREATE_BATCH.
Further notes
The reference batch must always be specified completely. This means the reference material, source batch and reference plant details must have been entered if the batch is determined at plant level.
All batch master data is copied. If the batch is classified in this enhancement, the values assigned to the corresponding characteristics are copied.
In the exit, you can use a communication structure with the application data for the respective business transaction (for example, plant or material type). If you require further information, you must obtain it yourself in one of the user exits (such as time, user name, or date, for example).
