Centro and T3 hotsync

This is my first post so excuse me if I have overlooked the answer to this question in previous posts. I am thinking of buying a Centro, and was wondering if I will be able to hotsync my T3 with the same desktop version that the Centro uses. I spotted some other posts on 2 different Palm cell phones, but didn't see any info on a non phone Palm device. I do not sync to any mail clients. Also will the Centro run third party programs that I am using in my T3 or is it a different OS?
Thanks
David
Post relates to: Tungsten T3

The Centro should be able to run your third-party programs you have on the T3, but you'll need to be careful when upgrading - there are certain T3 specific files that can scramble a Centro.
Follow Palm's guide to upgrading (rename your /Backup folder before Hotsyncing, etc.) and things should work out well.
How to Upgrade from a Previous Palm device to a Newer One: http://kb.palm.com/ and enter 12926 (General Upgrade guide) or 45175 (Upgrade to Centro) into the "solution ID:" box (lower right).

  • Centro and mysterious disappearance of HotSync

I'm using a Centro from Verizon on an Intel Mac v.10.4.11. In order to sync with iCal and the Mac address book, I've been using Missing Sync for Palm OS v.6.0.4.
I recently started up my Mac, and noticed that the icon in the dock for HotSync Manager had changed to a question mark, meaning that the location of the actual application was unknown. I searched my machine and found a folder (in a place I reserve for files I'm not sure I want to trash yet) that contained a previous version of Palm OS software that I had used with an old m515 I used to own. I took the HotSync Manager application from that folder and moved it to the current Palm OS application folder in my hard drive's Applications folder. I received the following error message when trying to start up HotSync Manager:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "HotSync Manager" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "<HotSync Manager><HotSync Manager><HotSyncLib.PPC><>"
I don't know quite what the next step is, since Missing Sync for Palm OS will not launch at all now. Help, please! I know this will eventually become an issue, because my Centro has been acting weird lately, and I'll need my desktop-based software to be the full backup that I need it to be. Thanks for any assistance with ideas on what to try.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

This has been a slow process for me, since I've had limited time for dealing with the problem. I've had to do lots of cleanup and maintenance on my iMac, and have reinstalled the antivirus software, have backed up appropriately all files that I know to back up (iCal and Address Book), checked to make sure I have backups of third party handheld apps, reinstalled the Palm software that came with my Centro, and reinstalled Mark/Space Missing Sync for Palm OS, and have been synchronizing my Centro for - oh - about 2 hours and counting.
I know it can take a long time for Missing Sync to synchronize, but this is ridiculous! Anyone know whether or not this is officially a crash or freeze, or if I should just let it keep going?
Please help, as I'm not sure what to do at this point. I appreciate any ideas you can throw my way!

  • Centro won't Hotsync Calendar and Contacts with desktop

Here's my problem.  I hotsync, but my Calendar and Contacts don't transfer to or from the handheld to the desktop.  I'm using a Palm Centro and trying to sync with Palm Desktop 4.2.1 on a MacBook running MacOS 10.4.11.
I already tried a complete restart of my Centro, erasing all user data.  I then hotsynced it and it restored from the backup on my MacBook, but this did not fix the problem.  It restored my contacts and all my apps to their prior status, but I lost all the Calendar data in my Centro.  I still have the data on the MacBook from whenever it was just before it stopped synching correctly.
The log proposes that I run the Contacts and Calendar applications and then run a hotsync.  I did that, but no results.  I still get the same stuff in the log.
    Please help.

This may be dumb, but I did not think to look for this until i called Palm for help...
After I had issues syncing, I re-installed the Palm software..when you do that, it sometimes turns off the ability to sync. To confirm that you have the ability to sync,  open Palm Desktop and go to Hotsync --> Setup, and check the HotSync Controls to see if it is "Enabled"
Also, if you have problems syncing with Entourage...try this...

  • Hot Synch Problems with Centro and Computer

Transfered phone numbers from old phone and added three  months of dates on the calendar.  Hot Synched and it transferred to my laptop.  Went back to Verizon and they beamed my PalmVx info into phone.  Got all the addresses and phone numbers, but it wiped out the calendar.  Now it will not hot synch the old phone numbers and addresses onto the laptop nor will it transfer the calendar data to the Centro.  Help!
    Post relates to: Centro (Verizon)

Sure. 877-426-3777.  It should transfer information from the PC to the Centro and back. The question is would then be where are you syncing too? The Palm Desktop or Outlook?
If the Palm Desktop is the usermenu, (top right hand corner) set to the same user that displays out hotsync on the Centro?

However, when I went to my messages, everything was gone - including some very important saved messages. I tried taking the battery out again but it didn't help. Can anyone help me?

if yes you can retrieve those SMS from the backup folder inside your username folder look for messaging.PDB double click and you can install it back to your phone.

  • Javascript with Centro and trying to download an app?

There have been several sites I have wanted to go to on my Centro and it won't let me. One is palmgear cause I wanted to download an app. I get a error message that I don't have javascript and can't access the site. I chatted with someone at suppport who told me Centros have javascript already by default and that it is because the site must be using flash. Well, how can I download an app then to my phone? Any suggestions?

I don't think there is any way to add a Flash player to the Centro's Blazer browser.
You can download an application (.prc file, possible inside a ZIP archive) to your PC and then use HotSync to install it to your Centro.

  • Centro won't HotSync using Bluetooth & Windows 7

I have been using Bluetooth to HotSync my Palm Centro (Verizon) with my Windows 7 (HP) computer.  The last successful HotSync was 2 weeks ago (9/20).  No hardware or software changes have been made to the computer since then.  When I tried to HotSync today I got this message:
    HotSync Problem
Unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application.
I tried rebooting the computer, but that didn't help.
Can anybody help me?  In very simple basic words (pretend you're talking to your grandmother) please.

I also get this message.  I thought it was because my wife and I each have a Palm Centro and it meant that the HotSync was still connected to the other person's phone.  But If you are only using one phone, and still get this message, I am now stumped as to why the error occurs.

  • Palm Centro will not HotSync....

My Centro will no longer HotSync with my pc. I've done a soft boot, I've removed the desktop software and downloaded the new
software from Palm's web site. I've changed USB ports. The HotSync completes, but never closes and gets hung up. When I check
the log on my Centro it says every update failed. The calendar, contacts, etc.... All my information is now on my Centro

  • Palm Centro Stuck on Hotsync

Please Help!!!  I have 2 Centros and both seem to have the same problem.  They will work for a little while then they get stuck on Hotsync and I can't get it off.  I have tried to do a soft and hard reset and it has gotten me nowhere.  The phone will even get to where it will not power up for a day or two.  If anyone knows how to correct this problem,  Please Help.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

The most common reason for the looping hotsync is the connectors on the bottom of your devices have been exposed to moisture or some kind of liquid and it has corroded the connectors.
Now there are other things that could cause the looping hotsync one being software that is causing it do so.
Have you tried hard resetting the unit and after a hard reset not puttin anything back on the phone and see how it acts, chances are if the problem persists it is either corroded connectors or a hardware malfunction.

  • Centro and 680 sync with Outlook - same calendar

I have a Centro and a 680.  I run Windows Vista and use Outlook for my calendar.  We are business partners/spouses and want the same calendars on both phones.  I have researched for an answer and haven't found one for my situation.  Anyone have a suggestion?  I can sync my Centro right now and it has all of my calendar items that I have hand entered, but the Outlook calendar has all of the info off of my husband's phone.  I have just gotten this computer (Vista) so maybe I do not have something set right.  When I was using XP Pro I would get it to cooperate most of the time, but not every time.
I wish Palm would realize the needs of business persons and spouses for joint calendars and make that part more user friendly.  Palm I know you read this, get up with the times.

Nope, Cobalt was an OS that never saw the light of day on any real Palm devices.
It was developed years ago, and then disappeared.    People are making reference to it due to Palm's new OS about to appear (called "WebOS" ).

  • Hotsync Palm Centro and Tungsten T5?

    Hi, Everyone,
I am new to the forum, but have done a little lurking.  I am looking for help with a new install of Palm Desktop 6.2.2
I have had three previous Palm devices and always have trouble moving to the newer platform, but I eventually get it worked out.  I just installed Desktop 6.2.2 on my Vista computer because I got a Centro.  Although the instructions said to install over my prior desktop, when I did so, I lost all the backup files from the prior version.  I hope I can restore them from my T5.
Will the newer desktop communicate with the T5?
I read another post about using a fix from Pimlico software to make the newest desktop compatible with the T5.  Does anyonw know if I will have trouble syncing the Centro if I install the fix from Pimlico?
    Thanks, Bill
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Are you sync'ing the Centro to the same username in Palm desktop as the T5? If you are, this will cause problems on the new device. When you sync the device, it saves the device settings, 3rd party apps, preferences, etc. in the backup folder in the username folder on the PC. When you sync the new device it copies the contents of the backup folder for the old device to the new device. This will cause corruption in the settings for the new device thus causing erratic behavior of the new device.
You should be sync'ing the 2 devices to 2 different usernames in Palm Desktop so you don't have any conflicts.
    You may need to hard reset your device and rename your backup folder. Go to http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=887 and follow the directions to do a hard reset. Next before you hotsync your data back over you will need to rename your backup folder, to do that go here;
    XP
C:\program files\palm or palm one\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
    Vista
Start-->documents\Palm OS Desktop\[hotsync username]\ and rename your backup
    folder to backup.old
Then hotsync to your current hotsync name and all your contacts, calendar,
tasks, and memos will come back over.
Show file extensions for XP or Vista
    XP
If you can not view file extensions on your PC I would like you to open a
folder go to Tools-->Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
    Vista
Open control Panel go to Folder Options--> View (tab) and under show hidden
files and folders uncheck hide file extensions for known file types.
